Shuffle USB assembly?

Do you guys know where one could get a USB ribbon assembly for a first gen Shuffle?
My Shuffle is facing a slow death as the only problem is that the ribbon cable that connects the main board to the USB port is torn. I can't sync or charge it, but it still sings, which it'll presumably do until the battery looses its charge, until it starves. This seems like a simple repair, but I can't find a new ribbon cable for sale anywhere. It seems a shame to have to buy a new MP3 player for something like this.

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.

Hope that helps.

with latest software) USB Does Not Work:
-When charging with the Adapter, iPod does not
    charge. No light comes on.
-When charging with Computer, iPod does not charge.
No light comes on. iPod used to charge to the
computer. Computer has the System Requirements for
    the iPod.
-When iPod is put in the Computer, no light comes on,
the iPod is not recognized. iPod used to work with
the computer. Computer has the System Requirements
    for the iPod.
-The USB in the iPod looks perfectly fine. Identical
to a different iPod Shuffle 1st generation.
-iPod never broke or had damage problems. The USB
    just stopped working.
-The Battery of the iPod still works and the iPod
still lets me play music, but since I cannot charge

What is wrong with my iPod? Thankyou for your time.

  • TS3581 CAN YOU CONNECT A SHUFFLE (gen4) TO A KENWOOD CAR STEREO USING THE SHUFFLE USB CABLE ?

    HELLO TO ALL
ABIGMAC1 HERE! GOOD DAY TO ALL
JUST WONDERING IF ANYONE COULD ANSWER THIS
CAN YOU CONNECT A SHUFFLE (gen4) TO A KENWOOD CAR STEREO USING THE SHUFFLE USB CABLE ?
I CAN USE AN AUX  3.5 TO 3.5 BUT NO WAY TO READ THE LIBRARY. PLEASE HELP ME!
    THANK-YOU
    ABIGMAC1

Check the documentation for the car audio system for device compatibility.  A shuffle may not be compatible.
If the car audio system is able to use a regular USB flash drive connected to the USB port, you should just get an 8GB USB flash drive for $5-10, load it with your "car songs" and leave it connected to the car audio system, instead of constantly connecting and disconnecting an iPod.
If the car audio system has an aux. audio input mini-stereo jack, you can get something like this
    http://www.amazon.com/Monster-iCable-Player-Auxiliary-Input/dp/B002AR5XIK
and connect your shuffle's headphones jack to the car audio system.  You can then use your shuffle to play through the car audio system.

  • 10.2.8/Shuffle/USB 1.1 Issues

    -450 Sage iMac
    -USB 1.1
    -OS X 10.2.8
    -iTunes 6.0
Just purchased a 1G Shuffle for my daughter's Xmas gift. The manual stated that my Sage 450 or iTunes 6.0 will not recognize the iPod through the USB 1.1 port. It stated I need to have at least 10.3.6 for it to recognize the unit. (Kind of backwards in my mind.) I tried searching the Apple site for Panther to no avail. Updates are available, but the actual OS X 3.0 does not seem to be available. I've seen it available on a few other sites, but I'm hesitant to buy just anything without knowing who's reputable.
Is there an easy place to buy a Panther download, or is there a reputable site to purchase this product through? Amazon has it for $75.
Is there any other way to make this work by Christmas without a full-blown OS upgrade?
(Or, should I just trash the old Sage and fork out the 1500.00 for a Shuffle ready machine?)
    Thanks ahead

Thanks for the input. Spot on regarding the cable. Ran to Radio Shack Xmas Eve (or Friday?) and picked up a 6 ft USB cable (shortest they had.) Plugged the unit in and it was recognized by iTunes. Downloaded a selection of files and my daughter was able to open and use it Xmas morning. Thank you. Can't tell you how relieved I was.
Question: The manual stated that the unit would not work with 10.2.8, yet with the extension cord, all seems to be fine. I haven't needed to recharge it, yet. Could this statement be refering to the inability of the computer to charge the iPod without Panther? Seems odd to me.
Thanks again. Really appreciate the info.

  • What can i do if my ipod shuffle usb cable snapped and i cant find a new one?

i had this ipod for like 1/2 a year and i need a cable to charge it, im a musician and i need it to listen and play. plz help i need this =>

If that's a 2nd gen shuffle, which is the one shown in the image, the linked USB cable from the Apple Store is the wrong one.  That cable is only for the 3rd and 4th gen shuffle, as noted under Compatibility in the description.  The 2nd gen shuffle has a different connector.
This is the replacement for the 2nd gen shuffle
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MA694G/A/apple-ipod-shuffle-dock
It is a bit costly, especially compared to a brand new 4th gen shuffle for $49.  There are third-party replacements that cost less at other online stores.  They should work, but make sure the item is described as being for the 2nd gen shuffle, not 3rd/4th gen.

  • Shuffle USB Problem - Some Observations

I decided to start a new thread with some additional observations I have made regarding the Shuffle and USB problems. Some of this already appeared as a reply to the "ipod usb" thread. Anyway recapping from my previous post:
When plugged into the USB port of my machine, the front LEDs (above the control area) flash the following:
GREEN and ORANGE (YELLOW?) flash together for between 1/4 and 1/2 second. This is followed by the GREEN LED alone for about 1.5 seconds. 3 seconds of nothing, then it repeats. The battery condition LED on the back (below the ON/OFF switch blinks ORANGE for about 1/4 second every 4 seconds.
Plugging the Shuffle into another computer (a laptop), the Shuffle is recognized and the LEDs behave normally.
Now the weird thing is that the Shuffle had worked on the machine where it is now not recognized. In fact the iTunes 7.0.1 diagnostics show the serial number of the Shuffle as the last iPod connected. Also, the USB on the iTunes machine is a USB 1.0 and on the laptop is USB 2.0.
    NEW OBSERVATIONS:
My 20GB Click Wheel iPod works fine under 7.0.1. The fact that it works leads me to believe the USB port and power are fine. If it the USB port can drive a hard disk iPod, it better be able to drive a Shuffle!
I loaded up the version of iTunes that came with the Shuffle on another Windows 2000 box I have. The Shuffle was recognized and did a RESTORE on it. Windows even recognized it. The version of Windows IS NOT as currently patched as the computer on which I have iTunes 7.0.1 installed.
I uninstalled iTunes 7.0.1 and installed version 6.0. Aside from 6.o not starting because some file got converted, Win2000 still did not recognize the Shuffle.
    So here are my thoughts:
    1) A recent Windows 2000 patch causes Shuffles to be ignored by the OS. There is a comment about a problem like this with XP, but I was not able to find anything Win2000 related. The machine I am having problems with is up to dat with regard to patches.
    2) If V7.0.01 is the problem, even uninstalling it and reinstalling an old version of iTunes leaves some part of the driver or something that still causes problems.
    3) The Phillips Pronto remote software I installed somehow causes a bad interaction with only the Shuffle. Remember, my click wheel iPod still works!
Right now I am leaning towards an issue specific to Windows2000 and the Shuffle. Maybe a conspiracy to get us all to buy Zunes?
If anyone has additional observations or suggestions on how to fix the problem, I (and a bunch of other people) would really like to hear from you.
    Thanks!
    Don

Okay, I got focused on the fact that other machines
would recognize my Shuffle, but not my main machine.
It dawned on me that the Windows Registry stores
information about USB devices whether or not they
are plugged in, so I snooped around and found the
    entries for the iPod.
I did some searches and found a reference to this MS
    KB article:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315539/en-us
Basically describes how to show the "hidden" (i.e.
removed USB) devices. Went into the USB section and
deleted the 2 entries I had for iPods (my Shuffle and
    20GB click wheel).
Plugged my Shuffle in and BINGO! Windows recognized
the Shuffle and iTunes 7.0.1 recognized the Shuffle!
In fact, as I write this post, my poor little
Shuffle is having my jogging play list reinstalled
since it got wacked by the 'restore' on the other
    machine.
Bottom line, it looks like I managed to solve my
green and orange LEDs of death problem!
    Your mileage may vary!
    Good luck!
    Don
Yes, great, this is a fix for this problem. Thank you very much.

  • Shuffle/ USB problems

on my Windows computer, when I plug in the USB and the iPod is on the dock, it says One of the usb devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and windows doesnt recognize it.
    what now?!

My windoze computer died and it had to be completely rebuilt (Win XP Home, 4 users set up each as Administrator). I logged on and reinstalled iTunes but neither Windoze or iTunes recognised I had attached my Shuffle (gen2), I went thru the remove/reinstall/reset iTunes several times but no good. I got my daughter to login to her account and her shuffle gen 2 was recognised and all her songs were there. My wife logged into her account attached her Nano and her library of songs was there. I logged in but still no good, neither Explorer or iTunes acknowledge my Shuffle - what can I now do?

  • 4th generation shuffle "USB Device Not Recognized"

After a trip to the Apple Store with my iPod in which they diagnosed my iPod as being a "dud," I happily came home to plug in my new iPod, which...LOW AND BEHOLD...displayed the same issues. Here is what is happening:
    1. I plug in my iPod Shuffle to my HP Pavilion running Windows 7.
    2. I hear that noise (boo-boop)recognizing that a device has been plugged into my USB drive.
    3. A message pops up in the right-hand corner of my computer that reads, "USB Device Not Recognized" at which point I click for more information.
    4. The detailed view shows the following message: "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"
    What I've already tried:
    1. Uninstalling and Re-installing all of the drivers under the Universal Serial Bus Controller in the Device Manager.
    2. Running updates on iTunes and on my Windows Operating System.
    3. Updating iPod drivers.
PLEASE HELP! I am frustrated. I had a 2nd generation Nano that was stolen out of my car, but it worked fine for years. Also had an old shuffle (2nd generation) that worked fine with this computer/operating system. Any advice helps, I don't want to wait another 2 hours at the Apple Store only to be sent home with another device that doesn't work with my computer.

    Did you try this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1925
It sounds like the Apple USB stuff is your problem. I would just do the full uniinstall and reinstall.
Make sure you connect directly to computer, not through a USB hub.
If none of that solves the problem, try creating a new user and see if it works when you log on as that new user. If it does work, you know you have something installed on your normal account that is fooling with the iPod.

  • 2nd gen iPod Shuffle USB power adapter

    Hi everyone,
haven't found thi info anywhere... One year and a half ago I bought the 2nd generation iPod Mini (silver pod, remember?) and its USB power adapter, which worked with every iPod at that time.
Just bought the brand new 2nd gen iPod Shuffle: will it work with my "old" USB power adapter, or have I to get the new USB power adapter (I've seen a new form factor around...)?
Thank you - Best of all

  • Can Shuffle play while charging on Apple USB Power Adapter?

    Hi,
We would like to purchase a shuffle (2nd gen) to play continuously music on hold to our company's telephone system. The Phone system's audio-in jack is compatible. I've connected my 1st Gen iPod shuffle to the phone system, and it plays fine.
We will not be able to plug the shuffle into a computer, so we will need to plug it into the Apple USB Power Adapter.
Is anyone doing this? Does it work? Any problems?
    Thanks,
    David

I'm having the same problem.  I'm using a new shuffle usb cable in my 2nd generation shuffle and nothing shows up on computer.  I'm wondering if the dock for the second gen is different than the new usb cable direct into the 2nd gen shuffle. I don't have a dock for it.  Before I buy one on ebay I hope someone can assist.

  • Why isn't my ipod shuffle not showing up in my devices, or my desktop?

I received my ipod shuffle (2nd gen) app. 2 years ago, however, this is the first time that I have ever tried to sync my current itunes library onto it. I connected the shuffle with a USB chord, but, the shuffle does not show up in "devices", nor on my desk top like my other ipod does. When it is plugged into the chord, the light flashes orange. I think that orange flashing means that it is "syncing music", however, there is no signs of the shuffle being connected to my Apple Mac in anyway. I have tried rebooting the computer, as well as turning my shuffle on and off. However, nothing has helped it. I have watched videos reviewing "fake shuffles" and I am confident that mine is not a fake. Please help me! Thanks!

  • Does an audio splitter allow for power and audio out on the shuffle? (yet?)

(I saw there was a post about this from 2009, but checking again since it's 6 years later)
I want to use a shuffle to play music through an art piece in an exhibit for several months but realized I would need power AND audio. Would an audio splitter do the trick? I see the shuffle USB cable has three white bands and a splitter like the Belkin only has two:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/HA828ZM/A/belkin-audio-splitter-35mm-m2x35mm-f ?fnode=63582f9cd24290de2d1749b7e75ef4d31…
And if a splitter doesn't work, is there any other way to allow for audio and power now?
    thx,

    Hi JamilMereck,
first of: you can edit previous posts in a time-frame of some minutes (haven't measured it ...).
    After that they become non-editable.
I admit I have used microphones some years back with and without PCs (have switched to Macs 2.5 years ago).
But I always had the mics connected to a mixing desk, which provided Phantom Power.
Since I gave up my 'Singing Career' (wasn't good enough) I also abandoned the use of microphones.
    To your questions:
It might be that PCs with specified Microphone-In ports are also providing power to them or the microphones themselves do not need any power.
And the 'compatible with...' refers to the usage on computers in general.
The iMic from Griffin works with OSX 10.5 (scroll down on the webpage to 'Product Compatibility' the left icon symbolizes OSX 10.5).
As said above, I am no longer up-to-date in usage of microphones, but when you want to use a microphone with the standard connector you have to get either a microphone preamp or a mixer.
If you use the mic only (really only) with your Mac Pro, you might wanna look for USB-connected mics from Samson or Audio Technica for example.
And don't get upset, I understand you fully and any kind of 'insult' is for the manufacturers and not for me
    Stefan
