Shuffle will not connect to iTunes

I am running Windows Vista with the latest release of iTunes. My daughter just got an Shuffle for the holidays. I was able to connect the shuffle once to my PC but now I can not connect it to I am running Windows Vista. I was able to connect it once to the PC and register it, but now it will not reconnect to iTunes. The PC sees the shuffle connect and recognizes it as an iPod in the device manager. iTunes,however, just hangs and will not work at all. After a few minutes I pull the shuffle out of the dock and iTunes operates again, but I get a warning telling me to reset the Shuffle to the factory default settings using the tools in the iTunes Summary. BUT iTunes will not recognize the shuffle so I can not do this!! Argh! Anyone have any ideas?

I hope the solution is as "simple" as mine. After spending hours trying to get itunes to recognize my Ipod and talking to support, I discovered that I did not have the ipod locked into the Dock.

    Sorry sorry I am a not clear on apple product names. Actually do not care about the names. So I had to look this up so as not to offend anybody. I am talking an ipod nano gen4 AND and ipod nano gen7. Neither work. Can you direct me to somebody who might know how to fix this?

    When you take this one back, be sure to have your USB docking cable checked, to make sure it is not  the thing that is defective.
    Also, make sure you have USB cable plug completely inserted into the headphones jack.  The fit is sometimes tighter than expected, especially when the shuffle is new.  This is apparently enough of an" issue" that Apple has a tech support doc about it

    Oh, so the iPad DOES work fine connected to the same computer and the same port.  I thought you said it did not in the first post, but maybe you got that working (or I misunderstood before).
    NOTE:  When things are working properly, the shuffle will not appear in Windows Explorer (except when actively syncing), unless you have Enable disk use turned on for the shuffle.  So not seeing it in Windows Explorer may not be a problem.
    Is this shuffle a new purchase... so it did not previously work for you on this computer?  If so, make sure that the shuffle end of the USB cable is fully inserted into the headphones jack.  The fit can be tighter than expected, and it may seem connected, but is not.  For a surprising number of people, this was the problem.
    In iTunes, is the sidebar (along left side of window) visible.  If it is hidden, from the iTunes menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  When there are no devices connected, the heading DEVICES should not appear in the sidebar.  When you connect your iPad, DEVICES should appear, with the iPad listed below.  If you connect the shuffle, it is be added to the list under DEVICES.  To confirm, you do not see the shuffle listed there under DEVICES, when it is connected?
    When you connect the shuffle, does its light on the shuffle do anything?

    I had the same problem. Reinstalled everything and still nothing. Came across this article:

    Quit and relaunch iTunes
    Connect the iOS device to a different USB port on the computer
    Reboot the iPhone, iPad, or iPod
    Reboot the computer
    Use a different syncing cable (if possible)
    I changed my syncing cable and it worked! Try that if all else is failing.

    Turn your phone off and connect your cable to the computer, but not the device just yet. Start up iTunes. Now, hold down the home button on your phone and plug it in to the cable - don't let go of the button until iTunes tells you it's detected a phone in recovery mode. Now you can restore to factory settings.
    Unfortunately, the data on your phone is already gone if you're seeing the connect to iTunes logo.

    Hi, I HATE to ask for help with this, but I HAVE looked everywhere and Google searched different wordings and have not found anything similar nor a solution to my problem!                                                                                                                                                                                                                               My good old iPod 4th-gen charges just fine in any wall outlet, in any house, but when I connect it to my brand new ASUS laptop that has Windows-8 and 3.0 USB ports using the charging/data cable, the charging process just keeps "blinking" BOTH the iPod and the laptop and it will not connect to ITunes and I get "A Device is Detected" message that keeps popping up and going away over and over right above the Windows desktop toolbar.                                                               When I go to control panel and select "Devices" it does show the iPod, but for only a split second and than it disappears, but than it comes back again for a split second and than it disappears again and just keeps doing that over and over and over!                                                                                                                  I have tried resetting the iPod while it is plugged into the laptop by holding the power and menu buttons, that did no good.                                                             I also tried uninstalling iTunes and any other Apple stuff listed and reinstalling it all, that did NOT work!                                                                                          The iPod, the laptop and iTunes ARE all fully updated!                                                                                                                                                                I AM using a brand new charging/data cable that I just opened up an hour ago (I've learned to keep a few brand new ones around at all times since these piece of garbage rip-off cables hardly last a week, even when you baby them!).     This is the most bogus example of Apple rip-off EVER.  They do not advertise this *feature* and yet expect people to invest in an Apple ECOSYSTEM?  My experience with Apple TV using a central media "server" (a dedicated Mac Mini) has been atrocious.  I continually get "Cannot connect..." messages and with typical Apple "it just works" mentality, there is no reason stated.  I HATE APPLE TV and I HATE APPLE.  Peddle your crapple somewhere else.

    or              
    Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
    Before you reinstall the Apple software, also remove iCloud vi Control Panel Remove programs. The reinstall the Apple programs
    New cable and different USB port?
    Runs this and see if the results help with determine the cause

    iTunes and the App Store are two different apps/stores. I'm not sure I understand what you are trying to do. If you want to buy apps - go to the app store. If you want to but media - music, movies, TV shows - go to iTunes.

    Dude you have a jailbroken phone as stated in your first post, no need to do a second post.
