Shuffle will not play podcasts in order

I have downloaded a French Lesson podcast - which I found through iTunes. No matter how I import the lessons (i.e. directly from the library, or if I make a playlist for the lessons) the will NOT play in order on my iPod Shuffle. I DO have it switched to "play in order" - not shuffle songs. I have rearranged the lessons many times so that #1 on the playlist is Lesson 1, #2 is Lesson 2 and so on. But when I go to play them, the shuffle will start randomly on lesson 9 or 5 - even if I hold down the button to restart it at the beginning. So basically, I never know what lesson I'm in and it's very frustrating.
Can anyone help?

Following is just a default description which applies to most. There are many differences in how it actually works on specific systems, and all sorts of ways to futz with the system to try to make it work differently. Keeping in mind that YMMV:
a. Podcasts are one of the special classes in iTunes. The only sort possible with Podcasts in iTunes, as podcasts, is on release date. That's the only column you can click on to reorder things.
b. All else being equal, podcasts will only play on the iPS in the same order that they are ranked in iTunes itself.
c. By 'in iTunes' I mean in the Podcasts playlist. You can re-order things in pretty much whatever way you want to in playlists you create yourself, but that won't (in most cases) affect the play order.
As for some other things:
1) Podcasts won't play at all unless you're in the 'Play In Order' position. That doesn't have any actual meaning with its order or play, however.
2) You don't hold any button down to restart it at the beginning. A quick triple-click of the Play button does that.

  • IPod Shuffle does not play podcasts in set order

I see others have been having this trouble and have tried the recommendations but they are not working.
I have tried to set the play order of podcasts and am only successful when I sort them by time. If I download a number of podcasts on the same day (someone said that they play by download date) I cannot set the play order. Someone said to drag the podcast to the desired order and that does not work with podcasts. It might with albums but not with podcasts.
In addition, someone said to drag each podcast to the iPod in the order you want each one played. That does not work, either. Finally, if I do settle for the order displayed in the iPod play list and I haven't sorted by time, the Shuffle will not play them in the order played in iTunes.
I have Shuffle set in iTunes to repeat all play; not shuffle. I don't use autofill. I'm sure I'm setting the button on the back of the Shuffle to play in order. Is there something I'm overlooking?
I'm running the latest of both iTunes and iPod Shuffle on Windows XP Pro. I just re-loaded this software on a new computer and had the same problem with XP Pro on the old computer.
Am I asking too much from iTunes? I don't use it for music. Do I actually need a more sophisticated program other then iTunes if I use Shuffle only for podcasts?

That is in fact how podacsts work in the iTunes/iPod system. The only sorting is based on release date (time) which is set and sortable only in iTunes. You aren't missing anything, and nothing you do subsequently will affect that order; podcasts are and are treated differently.

  • I just bought a song and my ipod shuffle will not play it.. how do i get my money back from the song??, I just bought a song and my ipod shuffle will not play it.. how do i get my money back from the song??

I just bought a song and my ipod shuffle will not play it.. how do i get my money back from the song??, I just bought a song and my ipod shuffle will not play it.. how do i get my money back from the song??

Assuming you bought the song at the iTunes Store, you can go here
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/
and follow one of the "paths" to get what you need or to an Apple customer support employee.  One path is to click Contact Support at the bottom of the list of choices, and use the Express Lane.
The iTunes app also has a way to report a problem with a purchase.  Select iTunes Store in the sidebar (of the iTunes window).  Toward the upper right corner, click on your Apple ID.  This gets you to your Account Information screen.  Find Purchase History and click See All.  On that screen, you can select a specific purchase with that problem, and Report a Problem.
If you want to try to figure out WHY that song does not play on your iPod shuffle, please post back...

  • Shuffle will not play in rav4

shuffle will not play in new rav4. auto radio says to check ipod firmware. where do I go for this?

iTunes will let you know if there is a software update for your shuffle model available.  There is no way to "check iPod firmware" and do something to make a change.
You should confirm that your shuffle model is supported by the car audio system.  Shuffles are different from the "bigger" iPods (and iPhone).  They are simplified devices (especially if 1st or 2nd gen shuffle), and may not have the capacity to interact with a car audio system.

  • My Shuffle will not play any songs

my shuffle will not play any songs. when i turn it on the green light stays on for about ten secs and nothing happens. it is the same way when i switch it to the last swtich thing. i have reset it and restored it and updated it and nothing seems to work. it was working fine 2 days ago and it started yesterday to give me problems. any suggestions would be greatly appreacated.

Just try charging it properly, make sure you're inserting it into a proper high-power usb port (and not necessarily a high speed usb 2.0 ) and you can make sure its charging if the light turns amber (orange). You should leave it to charge for 4 hours the first time (from 3 to 6:16 isn't enough), until the light finally turns green, or until u get really bored!

  • My shuffle will NOT play protected AAC files but will play ripped AAC files

When I download a playlist to my Ipod Shuffle all files appear to transfer OK, but only the regular AAC files (the ones from my CD's) will play (i.e. the protectet AAC files will NOT play). If I create a playlist with only protected AAC files purchased from Itunes, NOTHING will play.
Yes, I've run updater (latest version).
Yes, I've reset to factory defaults.
Yes, I'm using the latest version of Itunes
Yes, These songs play fine on my Windows XP PC.
    Yes, I've "deauthorized" and "re-authorized"
Yes, I've deleted all my music files and restored them.
Basically, I've got a MP3 player (Yes, I know I'm actually playing AAC files)
Any Ideas!!! Has anyone seen this before?

    Hi,
Check the iPod hardware properties. Make sure that the iPod shuffle is connected to computer.
    1. Right-click My Computer and click Manage.
    2. Select Device manager.
    3. Then select Universal Serial Bus controllers.
    4. Right-click USB Mass Storage devices and click Properties.
    5. Click the Details tab.
Check for the string of numbers if it is 000a.2700.FFFFFFF then send the iPod shuffle for service. http://depot.info.apple.com/ipodshuffle/
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302110
or take it back to the place from were you brought and ask for a replacement.

  • IPOD shuffle will not play in order

I have setup up a play list to play some pod casts, they sync fine, but I can not get the shuffle to play them in the order I set them in. I have set the switch in the back to be 1/2 of the way down (the play in order) but it still just shuffles the play list. Is there 1) a way to force it to play in the order I set it in the play list (these pod casts are really 1 radio show, just the 3 hours are differiant mp3's) 2) have iTunes convert the 3 files into 1 file that is just the 3 concatinate one after another. I use the shuffle for biking and I don't want to take my 40Gb hard drive based one on the bike ride due to potholes here.

Unfortunately the issue is with the podcasts. I want to intersperse my Podcasts with some music. I also want to play the podcasts in the order I'm choosing. Instead I set up the playlist, it looks good. I eject the iPod but when I plug and play, it's playing the songs and podcasts in the order it sets not the one I set!
That Control Click on the iPod icon in iTune and selecting "Copy to Play Order" actually seemed to work. Instead it just seems to muddy the waters.
Previously I would set up a playlist in the order I wanted it and then eject. Then after plugging it back in the play order I set up would be gone and the iTunes dictated play order would be there. I tried the "Copy to Play Order" and ejected the iPod. When I plugged it back in the play order I set up was still there. I was all excited thinking the problem was solved but decided to try playing the shuffle. Imagine my disgust when the first thing that played was a podcast that I set down into the middle of the playlist...

  • Ipod shuffle will not play subscribed podcasts

I have an ipod shuffle 2nd generation. I used to be able to download podcasts from itunes store and play them. Now the podcasts do download, play on my computuer but do not play on the ipod. I tried reloading itunes and reloading the ipod. Itried to assign the computer, but as I am not in the USA it rejected my credit card details and would not register me at the itunes store.
    Any suggestions?
    R

Thanks for your reply. It is Itunes 7 that I'm using. I manually copy the files from my Itunes folder to my Ipod drive. I can see the songs on my Ipod okay.
I can't see any option for autofill or restore or update or anything like that. I've just discovered the diagnostics option and the Ipod connection status has failed (although the device is noted as working properly).
    I am a UK user.
    Cheers.

  • My ipod classic will not play podcasts

I have a 160GB iPOD classic and have been syncing successfully music, podcasts, photos and videos for many years. Originally formatted on my PC, for the last year I have only been syncing on my MAC but I haven't re-formatted the iPOD and it didn't seem to mind. A couple of weeks ago the iPOD decided it would not play any video podcasts (radio podcasts are fine). I select it to play, and after a second or two it goes back to the menu. I have completely cleared the iPOD and restored to factory settings. After re-syncing it still does not work. Movies (typically MP4 conversions from DVD and the web) all play fine. I have done this on the MAC (factory reset, re-sync) and also on the PC (factory re-set, re-sync). Makes no difference. Today I deselected all podcasts, synced, then just selected a new video podcast (a TED video as it happens) but still no luck. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I think I have figured out the problem. Call it "Curse of the iCloud." In the settings I had "download most recent episode." That may have been the only one actually on my computer. The rest were hiding in the Cloud. The computer showed a couple of hundred episodes, long since sent packing but still hiding. If I click on the iCloud symbol it brings the actural podcast to my computer where it can sync to the ipod. I didn't really want 250 old podcast taking up space, but of course they aren't really taking up my space, only Apples, and what Apple wants, Apple gets, and to **** with the rest. I suppose I should have known all of this, but I didn't, and trying to find it out is somewhat daunting. Anyway, I've reset to download all future episodes, gone back  reloaded ones I hadn't listened to, and will see if that works. To quote that distinguished techie, Ricky Recardo, "We need some better 'splaining around here.

I'm looking a cd for work with jpgs. The slideshow won't show them in numerical order. Any thoughts? Thanks.

  • Since apple update, "random/shuffle" will not play like it used to in the car

An update Apple did a while back has changed the way my ipod plays in the car.  I used to ask my car's system to play in random order (with shuffle on in the ipod).  It would do that, and when I'd turn off the car in the middle of a song, when I started the car up again, it would pick back up where the song had left off.  Now, if I turn off the car in the middle of a song, and turn it on again, it restarts the playlist from the beginning, and uses the same "random" order, like that order is now a set playlist.  It doesn't reshuffle them.  I contacted the maker of the car's system, they said it is caused by an Apple update.  What can be done?

Yes. When I click on it, it gives me volume control and output control. The output can be iphone or HandsFreeLink. When using HFL, it only works when my radio is tuned to bluetooth. It doesn't work when I use FM radio like I used to. I don;t want to keep my radio on bluetooth just to hear directions every now and then, I want to listen to the radio and have iMAPs break in when it needs to.

  • Shuffle will not play...just green light

I consider myself pretty technically savvy but I cannot get this thing to PLAY!!! I turn it on, the light turns green, I hold down the play button and turn up the volume - nothing. Even tried different headphones.
I am going on 6 hours. I have already packed it back in it's box once and told DH to return it. No receipt, he tells me (the fool). So I am stuck with it. Plus I do really, really want it to work.
    HELP
Here is what I have done so far:
    1) Loaded iPod and iTunes software CD that came with it onto my 2 year old Dell PC that has plenty of memory and is super-fast and was recently professionally cleansed of anything nasty (viruses, etc.).
    2) Loaded songs on it from my CD. No problems.
    3) Can SEE "Nancy's iPod" under Source in iTunes, and can see all the songs I loaded. Can play songs from "Nancy's iPod" when my iPod
    in my USB port.
    4) Have recharged and can see green light indicating the thing is charged.
    5) Have reset it about 8000 times.
    6) UNINSTALLED iPod and iTunes software (using uninstall programs)and REINSTALLED it all (was desperate).
    7) Perused help site and am completely freaked out by the thousands of messages from other poor souls like me. Am appalled by what appears to be 50+ suggestions for troubleshooting (try this, then try this, then try this - who has time for this???).
    Anyone? Anything??

for those who, like me, tried everything without getting the damned thing working, i've got a phone number at which i actually connected with a human being [:-)] to arrange for repair or replacement.
the deal is this: they send you packaging for the bum shuffle and a replacement shuffle to use while they fix the bum shuffle [and you have to accept the replacement shuffle - no choice]. then, when you get your hopefully un-bummed shuffle back, you have to send back the replacement shuffle.
one little fly in the ointment: you have to give them your credit card info in case you don't return the replacement shuffle - in which case your credit card is charged for the replacement. and a bit of chutzpah, yet! your credit card gets charged a buck one way or the other for "validation" or something like that; that charge is a part of the deal.
i've gotten two confirming emails so far about my request having been received and to inform me that the replacement has shipped. i assume that means the conveyor belt is rolling
i would go that way, nancy.
the magic phone number: 1 800 275-2273. it's available between 8 am and 8 pm, central time.

  • In an iPod Nano 6 songs will not play in A-Z order.

I have over 100 songs in one playlist.  This concerns an iPod Nano 6.  The songs are in alphabetical order on my Nano.  The songs will not play in alphabetical order and skips around.  How can I corredt this problem?

It's not a "problem," if the iPod is set to shuffle.  On page 21 of the 6th gen nano's manual
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1551/en_US/iPod_nano_6thgen_User_Gu ide.pdf
find the shuffle button on the Now Playing screen (it looks like two arrows crossing).  Tap it to toggle between shuffling the current song list and playing it in order.
