Shuffle with Repeat Playlist problems

When using shuffle with the repeat playlist setting on, iphone will play the full list of songs fine the first time, but when it goes to start over it plays another song in place of the first one, skipping it, and then repeating the rest of the playlist in order. I never get to hear the first song ever again. It has happened on both my iphone 4 and then the 4S when i replaced it. Could it be something in my itunes or a setting I have on without knowing it. It gets really annoying because I would like to hear all of my songs.

This is the same way you can shuffle normal playlists as well...
On your iPod go to settings-->shuffle and set it to songs.
Now go back to the main menu and go to music-->playlists and find your playlist. Once the name of the playlist is highlighted just hit play!

  • Shuffle With Smart Playlist

    Hey,
I've been having this problem for awhile, and hopefully someone can help me out with it. I just got my ipod about a month ago, also got the iTrip. For anyone who has the iTrip, they know that the stations are mixed in with the music in shuffle mode. So I created a 'Smart Playlist' to get rid of the stations. The only thing i'm having a problem with, is when I'm in my car and i want to play the smart play list (which by the way is called 'Griffin Technology) I don't know how to shuffle the songs. I don't wanna listen to every song in a row by the same artist. Does anyone know how to shuffle the songs in a 'smart playlist'?
    Thank you

  • I want to shuffle the songs on my shuffle with a playlist bigger than 2 gb

I have a shuffle and way too much music for it.  I have a playlist of stuff I would use at the gym but that is still too big.  Can't my shuffle just randomly choose enough song from my playlist to fill itself.  You know "Shuffle" the music.  I had a very old version of a shuffle that did just this every time I plugged it in.
Does anyone know how to tell iTunes to do this?

    Yes.  It's called Autofill.
Select the shuffle in the iTunes sidebar, under DEVICES.  If the iTunes sidebar (along left side of widnow) is not visible, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.
With the iPod selected in the sidebar, its Summary screen appears to the right.  There is a checkbox for Manually manage music.  To use Autofill, the shuffle needs to be set for Manually manage music.  If you changed that option, Apply the change.
In the sidebar, click on the small triangle to the left of the shuffle name, to drop down it content list, indented below the shuffle.  Click on Music there.  To the right, you see the list of songs on the shuffle.  At the bottom of the list, there are controls for using Autofill.  Select the playlist you want to Autofill from.  Click Settings to get the desired results.

  • HT4322 iPod Shuffle gen 4 playlist problems

I have followed all direction related to playlist and still, playlist is not functional. I'm not new to computers to following directions so these are not issues. Does anyone have any suggestions? Should I restore, reinstall the playlist software and resync? Any help is most appreciated.

Well, my mind-reading superpower is not working today, so I have to ask the (perhaps) obvious questions to know what you mean by "ALL"?
When you press and hold the VoiceOver button on the shuffle, do you hear it saying the playlist menu?  What does it say, if anything?
You may have loaded the shuffle from one or more playlists, but are the playlists themselves on the shuffle?
First, if you are using the latest iTunes, the sidebar may be hidden.  If so, go up to the menu bar, and under View, select Show Sidebar.  This will make it easier for me.  You can change it back later, if you want.
In the sidebar, under DEVICES, select the shuffle.  You should be able to "toggle down" the shuffle's content list, so that it appear indented under the iPod.  It should say Music there, and if the playlists are on the shuffle, they should appear there as well.  Do you see the expected playlists under the shuffle in the sidebar?

  • Problem with shuffling tracks within playlists

I'm having trouble shuffling songs within playlists.  I have an iPhone 5s with iOS 8.1.2.
If I open a playlist and press 'Shuffle' (or the Shuffle icon) above the first song, nothing happens--the playlist will not play, and I'm unable to play any of the individual songs within the playlist (the songs in the list will gray-out briefly when clicking on them).
If I start a playlist and try shuffling from the 'Now Playing' screen, only the current song will play.  For example, I hit 'Shuffle'--"Shuffle All' is highlighted but '1 of 41' becomes '1 of 1.'  If I then hit 'Shuffle All," '1 of 1' becomes '0 of 0.'
Thus far, the only way I can shuffle a playlist is to ask Siri to do it (and she doesn't always understand the playlist names).
Am I doing something wrong, or is there a bug here?
    Thanks.

It seems to occur more frequently lately. You can still add songs by right-click < Add to Playlist, although this is not as convenient as drag-n-drop. Hopefully it will get fixed soon.

  • Podcast Playlist Problems - 1st gen Shuffle

First off, I'm a casual user of iTunes & Shuffle - almost solely for podcasts and couldn't figure out how to make a playlist stick on the iPod; it would revert to file order, not playlist order. Couldn't reorder in the Library>Podcasts folder. Autofill wouldn't work. After much searching, and blundering about including restoring the Shuffle, I've made some progress.
    1. I understand that you cannot arbitrarily re-order the Library>Podcasts folder.
    2. For Autofill to work, all selected Podcasts must have the option 'Skip when shuffling' unchecked; updated podcasts seem to have this checked automatically so you have to redo the option after an update but you can do so globally for all items in Library>Podcasts or in a Playlist. Doing it in one seems to change that property for all lists.
    3. My problem with the playlist order being preserved in iPod seems to have been cured by the radical surgery of rebuilding the Library.
a)For my initial test, I simply relocated iTunes Library.itl to a safe folder; on the next start, iTunes built a new itl file and, of course, the library was empty. I subscribed to a few podcasts and was able to build dumb and 'Smart' playlists with which I could Autofill.
b)For my next test, I replaced the new library file with the original, exported the library to a XML file in a safe place, closed iTunes, relocated the itl file again and started afresh. Then imported the previously exported XML file which brought back all my playlists, etc, but the podcasts had re-subscribe buttons. This seemed to work fine until I subscribed to and downloaded another podcast. I then lost the ability to re-order in the Smart Playlist and the iPod playlist. Somehow I got it back; not sure if it was that 'Skip when shuffling' option again or it was because I did a global change of genre from Podcast to News & Political - maybe that diddled the file favorably.
    4. I'm not sure how to preserve my playlist order through podcast updates - my order not being one that matches a sort field. These are periodic podcasts (daily, weekly). If I set the subscription to auto-delete, the item disappears from my dumb playlists and drops to the bottom of the smart playlist when the podcast is updated. I'm not sure what happens if subscriptions are set to 'Do not auto delete' except that there is a growing sublist of prior items in the Library>Podcasts list and the Playlists still point to the one that was most recent when it was added to the Playlist. How do you keep a playlist sync'd to the latest podcast. I think the problem is that each regular podcast is a 'song' entity belonging to a common album, the name of the show. Each 'song' entity or podcast bears a unique id that the playlists use to point to it. What I want is for the playlist to point to the album and have only the latest 'song' playable. Any hints as to what I might do?
    Thanks,
    Tom

It looks improbable that an arbitrarily ordered playlist of podcasts can be automatically maintained in order through successive podcast updates. I've adopted the following procedure to manually maintain the order with a minimum (I hope) of steps. I'd welcome any suggestions for improvement.
I subscribe to podcasts that are updated hourly, twice daily, daily, and weekly. But I only do an iTunes update infrequently and rarely get to listen to the playlist on the Shuffle - maybe on a long drive or while painting a room.
    Build Playlist
    1. In Library>Podcasts I delete all of the prior podcast links keeping only the most recent. Select All, right-click and select the 'Do not autodelete' option. Select All, right-click>Get Info and in Multiple Item Information dialog window, Check and set Remember Position - Yes, Skip When Shuffling - No, Equalizer Preset - Loudness, OK.
    2. In Library>Podcasts I Select All (Ctrl-A), right-click and select the 'Do not autodelete' option. Select All, right-click>Get Info and in Multiple Item Information dialog window, Check and set Remember Position - Yes, Skip When Shuffling - No, Equalizer Preset - Loudness, OK.
    3. Create new Smart Playlist (CtrlAltN) with 'Match the following rule' set to 'Podcast is true' + other rules, e.g., 'Date Modified is in the last x days' and check 'Live Updating'. Now you have a playlist that has all (or whatever your rules allow) your podcast downloads in it and you can re-order the podcasts arbitrarily.
    Maintain Playlist in Order
    1. After updating Podcasts, repeat step 2 above because the updated podcasts don't inherit iTunes properties from the prior ones.
    2. Select your Smart Playlist. The updated podcasts will be automatically added to the bottom of the list. The ones they should replace should have remained in position provided the rules don't remove them and thus provide place markers for where the updated ones are to be dragged and dropped.
    3. Return to Library>Podcasts and delete the prior ones. They will also disappear from your Playlist.
    4. With iPod inserted and showing under Devices, select it and Autofill from the playlist created above.
I'd welcome any suggestions for improving the procedure.

My IPod no longer shuffles songs within playlists that are clearly set to shuffle.  It is about 3/4 full so I thought of maybe compressing the files to get more space.  Do you think that is the problem and if that might help?

Storage space on the iPod would not affect shuffled playlists or playlist shuffling, though substantially full iPods may wind up skipping songs on larger playlists after a while, and require a restart.  As for compressing the files themselves, you can automatically re-encode files to a lower bitrate by checking the box on the summary page when your iPod is connected to your PC/Mac.
As for the shuffle problem, after restarting your iPod (hold the center button and Menu for a few seconds, until the Apple logo appears), make sure you're telling the iPod to shuffle the songs in a playlist by repeatedly clicking the center button until the Suffle Menu comes up, then scroll to the right to turn it on.  From that song forward, the playlists' contents should be shuffled every time the playlist ends, or is accessed from a new song.
Shuffle does sometimes turn itself off, I've found, so double-check the setting is still on.  Also, iPods shuffle by randomly assigning a playlist order for your songs, which is different from traditional shuffle (on, say, iTunes or Windows Media Player, where the new song is determined at random upon the current track ending.  The iPod only chooses a random order of songs when you shuffle, to conserve battery life and queue up songs coming up on the playlist in the event of a shock).

  • Playlist problems with music on a Mac.

I somewhat recently switched to using multiple Mac's as my main desktop machines, all running Lion.  I'm trying to do everything "the Mac way", preferring Apple-provided apps where possible.  While im 95% happy, the funny thing is that the part that works worst is playing music.  So please school me in the Mac way of making music come out of the headphone jack.
Background: For over a decade, I've been ripping all my CDs, and storing them on a server.  That's done by converting the tracks into mp3 format, and storing them in a directory tree, one directory per CD.  The names of the tracks are very simple - they are 1.mp3, 2.mp3 and so on.  Each track hasID3 tags with album, track title (usually the movement name, like Allegro or Andante), and the artist.  Each directory contains a playlist in M3U format, cunningly always called all.m3u (as it contains all tracks in this directory). Many directories also contain other playlists.  For example, if the CD had both Bruch and Mendelssohn's violin concerti, it would probably have two extra playlists, called bruch.m3u and mendelssohn.m3u.  Or if it contained Beethoven's 1st and 2nd symphonies, it would have 1.m3u and 2.m3u.  Navigation and search is done by a series of html pages that are stored in the same directory tree, making locating music (whole CDs = directories, whole works = playlists, and individual tracks = mp3 files) quite simple.
This whole directory tree is avaiable through a HTTP server, mounted as a remote file system (for example by AFP or NFS), copies exist on some of the laptops I carry with me, and much of it is also copied onto USB sticks.
With both Windows and Linux desktop machines, this was very easy to use: point a web browser at the directory tree, available through a http server within my house.  Click on an individual track (an individual mp3 file), and it immediately starts playing (since all sensible players buffer).  Point at a playlist, and it immediately starts playing.  The same player can handle mp3 and m3u files, making the user interface simple and consistent.  There are no cache consistency problems: If I quit the player, edit the playlist on the server, and then click on the playlist again, the music player will pick up the new version.
In contrast, on the Mac nearly nothing works, and the little that works works badly.
If you click on an individual track (a single mp3 file), it actually starts playing in the Safari tab.  But that player (I suspect it's a stripped-down version of Quicktime embedded in Safari) is extremely stripped down: it doesn't even attempt to display ID3 tags and claims that everything is "live broadcast".  It doesn't react to F8, so you can't quickly pause the music if the phone rings or someone comes into my office (you have to mouse over to the Safari window and click, way too slow).  And there is no way to rewind while playing.  But at least something comes out of the headphones, and it is the track I expected to hear.
Now, with playlists, this completely breaks.  If you click on the link to the m3u file in the web browser, Safari downloads the playlist, then starts iTunes. Unfortunately, it completely forgets to tell iTunes the context, so iTunes is incapable of doing anything with that playlist: the playlist "waldstein.m3u" contains entries 1.mp3, 2.mp3 and 3.mp3 for the three movements of the Waldstein sonata, but iTunes doesn't get told that the playlist was found in the directory http://homeserver.example.com/music/piano/dg_419053, and that the relative file names are in that directory.  So there is no way to play a playlist from a web browser if it is being served by http.
Strangely, if I point Safari at a html page that is on the file system (perhaps on a USB stick or a shared server), the link between Safari or Finder and iTunes works: You click on a playlist file (either on a web page or in the finder), it opens iTunes, and it starts playing the tracks.  We'll get to the broken caching below though.
OK, plan B.  Take the whole directory (many dozens of GB, hundreds of CDs), and ask iTunes to import it all.  No problem.  iTunes is even smart enough to know that 1.m3u is a playlist (for Borodin's first symphony), containing four movements 1.mp3 through 4.mp3.  Unfortunately, iTunes is also completely stupid, and thinks that all files names 1.m3u are the same playlist. So now I end up with a large playlist called 1.m3u, which contains about a dozen symphonies, sonatas, and piano concertos mangled together.  The really amazing thing is the playlist called all.m3u, which contains every bit of music I own.  The reason I say "stupid": assuming that two m3u files that are found in different locations but have the same name must be the same playlist and must be merged is really jumping to conclusions.  But at least I can sort it by album title (usually the name of the work), and track title.  But that doesn't do anything useful.  I have probably 10 recordings of Rach3, and being presented with 30 tracks, 10 of which are the first movement, then 10 second movements ... sorting them alphabetically is not useful.
Sorting in general doesn't work: If I by mistake ever sort within iTunes, then it loses the original order of the tracks within the playlist.  And I don't want to hear a symphony in the order "Allegro, Andante, Moderato", just because that's the alphabetic order of the track titles: it works out to 3rd - 2nd - 1st movement.  And I have not yet found a way to tell iTunes to revert all playlists to the order the tracks showed up in the playlist.
If you tell iTunes to start playing in the middle of a large playlist (for example just the last movement of Rach3 with Argerich), it will happily continue playing within the same playlist.  Even across track / album boundaries!  Today I was playing Bach's St' John passion out of the giant "all.m3u" playlist, and at the end, it simply drifted into Borodin's 1st symphony.  Quite the shock, musically speaking.
The final straw is this: Once you import, iTunes wants to take charge, and it caches all the metadata (namely the playlists and track filenames).  In caching this, iTunes cmpletely forgets about any form of cache coherency protocol: just because you saw a playlist once doesn't mean that it will always be in that place, and will always have the same content.  Say I have imported at home, and iTunes remembers that the 1st movement of the Waldstein is in /Volumes/HomeServer/music/piano/dg_419053/1.mp3 (and at home that file is accessible via AFP or NFS).  Now I take my MacBook to the office, open iTunes, and click, and nothing hapens: my home server is not mounted in the office.  No problem: I reach into my briefcase, which contains a 32GB USB stick.  If I now open that playlist, iTunes starts playing it ... but now I have twice as many tracks.  Do this for a while, and you end up with N copies (for large values of N) of each playlist, and at any given moment all but N-1 of those are broken.
Even worse: Say I discover that I made a mistake, and forgot to add the last movement to a playlist.  No problem, go to the server that contains the master copy, edit the .m3u file with emacs, done.  Through a variety of rsync... scripts, the various copies on other computers or USB sticks will be updated soon.  But iTunes remembers the version it imported weeks ago.  Do I have to clear my iTunes cache every time I edit anything anywhere?  Why does iTunes even have a metadata cache, if it is usually wrong?
So, let me summarize my problem.  I'm looking for a way to click on a mp3 or m3u file that's stored via some sensible protocol (be it HTTP, local files, remote files on a shared server, or file system on portable media), and just play it.  Without storing a play list, without rearranging the play list, without caching, but with a display of the ID3 tag and a working pause key.
Here are my biggest complaints about the software that ships with a Mac:
The mp3 player embedded in Safari is missing about 90% of the function.
Linkage of playlists from Safari running on HTTP to iTunes is broken (but it works from Finder, or from Safari running on files).
iTunes insists on importing or caching playlists.  I don't need that, I have better storage mechanisms.  I want iTunes to play one track or one playlist, and then be done and forget everything it ever knew.  Is there a way to tell iTunes no never remember anything, just play the one thing I ordered it to?
If we absolutely must import and cache all playlist in iTunes, at least teach it to recognize that m3u files with the same name found in different places are not the same, and shall not be merged.
Once you sort a playlist in iTunes, I don't see how you can tell it to get back to the original sort order.
Any ideas?  Other than going back to Windows and Linux desktops, which I don't find acceptable?

I would also recommend that in order to ensure the person is getting the document in a format they can understand that he prints to PDF the documents.  Macs do that very easily.
OpenOffice is free and crossplatform.  If they need to edit his documents, they should all agree to use OpenOffice.

When I am playing an album in iTunes using cover flow view (with the playlist beneath the artwork picture) the  picture is exactly above the album title. All is symmetrical. I was having the same problem, but tried the "Top Button + Home Button" reset and that did work for me. My unofficial guess is that perhaps RAM caches get filled through daily use of various apps leaving no memory for cover flow. Resetting the phone on the phone itself seems to reset that RAM. I can't say it's a cure-all, but it solved my issue. Hope this helps.

  • How do i solve the problem with repeated renew lease requests

How can i solve the problem of repeated renew lease requests?

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
You don't say what you are doing or trying to do. See #5 below.
    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netwhttp://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • If I want to load my shuffle with albums, do I make each one a named playlist? How many playlists can be used?

If I want to load my shuffle with albums, do I make each album a "named playlist"?
If so, can I use any number of playlist I want, or is there a limit on playlist numbers?

If you want to be able to call up an album of your choosing at any time, then yes, the best option is to make a playlist for each album. I have not seen a limit, just remember that when choosing, you will be "scrolling" through them alphabetically, so the real limit is on your patience (you can use the buttons to move forward or backward more quickly).

How do I get my 6th generation Ipod to shuffle AND REPEAT all songs in a playlist (continual playing)?

You could get a cable such as this one.

It has the dock connector on one end fro connection to the iPod and then two connectors on the other end, one for connecting to the firewire charger you use and the other to connect to the usb port on your computer to sync the iPod. You can sync and charge at the same time.
Alternatively, you could explore the possibility of installing a high speed card to your computer such as this one.

I'm not saying that is the one you need (I know nothing at all about your particular computer), I'm just using this as an example of what I mean.
