Shuffle working again, no thanks to Apple !!

I waited for a fix from Apple as long as I could but it hasn't happened so I followed a lot of advice on this forum to fix it myself.
I had the same issue as everyone else. After upgrading to iTunes5 and Updater version 9-23-05 my Windows PC would no longer recognize my Shuffle and I couldn't download any new music to it. I didn't have any battery issues or playing music issues.
My solution was to revert back to an older updater version. In my case, I went back to 3-23-05, which is the version on my CD from Apple.
Run the remove programs in Windows and remove the Ipod updater software. Then, go into Windows Explorer and delete the Ipod folder. Reboot PC. Load an older version of updater software. Connect your shuffle and select format. All music will be lost. I hated to do this because I ran the risk of wiping my shuffle and if this didn't fix it i would be mad. Well, it worked. After running the format command, I ran the update to install the 3-23-05 load. All's well, the updater responded to version 1.1 and indicated i had 990Mb of space so I knew things were looking up. I brought up iTunes5 and am able to transfer music again!
Bottom line, I will be delaying my Nano purchase to see how Apple formally responds to this issue. I'm just amazed at the lack of a response from Apple seeing how many people are affected and knowing the update software is the culprit. I will not download any more music from iTunes until Apple responds and I will not be updating to any other Apple software until this is resolved.

    Try reset iPad
    Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears

    Thing is, I was using it on my old MacBookPro, also w/ yosemite. No problem. So I think it should run on the new one with the same OS.
    I did figure out how to find the CC cleaner log file. It had a lot of stuff in it, but did not indicate any kind of failures. I did not see the word “failure in the log file at all.
    After your suggestions, I went thru all the steps again - twice - very carefully emptying the trash between steps and restarting. Got the same error message at the end.
    Now, I still have 5.5 working on the old computer. That was my first and only install. My notes suggest  I installed it in 2011.
    If I knew for sure that if I deactivated it (if I knew how to do that) on the old computer, and uninstalled it, AND I could then count on the install working on my new computer, I would do it, but I am afraid to do that for fear that then I wouldn’t have it to use at all.
    I had expected it to transfer over, and then I would clean the old computer, as my son wants it for his wife, They have no use for DW.
    I also had trouble w/ MS Office, but they allowed me to call them and get a new install code. Now that Works fine.
    I wish Adobe were as accommodating. I have my original install disk & code. I never expected any of this trouble.
    I hope you can come up with a new plan. I really can’t afford to buy a new copy, especially when I know that this one should work, if it would just get rid of this blocking action.

    Try a reset: Hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until you see the apple, then let go.

    GiffGaff are not a supported UK Apple carrier .That is probably why you have lost Voicemail they are a cheap carrier who provide minimum services ,do they even offer voice mail

    Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
    Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
    Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
    Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
    Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
    Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
    Restart your mobile device.

    Sync your phone first to create a current backup, then hit the "Restore" button on the Summary pane. This will restore the phone to a state just like it was when first taken out of the box. Eject when finished. Do not sync after doing this. Test to make sure your camera is working. If it is, you've got a decision to make. There could be corruption in your backup that caused your camera issue, and restoring from backup will merely restore the issue. If you want to restore from backup, on your phone: Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content & Settings. You can now restore the backup you created when you started. In either case, you sync to restore your iTunes content.

    The mail was not working, so I try to delete it, and I though I did it, and I tried to re-start the MAC, but got the message "Mail don't permit to re-start, close mail and try again" or some like this. And I closed mail but still could not re-start, so I just took the plug from the electricity and re-plug again. And voilá!!!  Everything in place, mail working again! Thanks.

    Try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
    Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
    If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.
    There's more to try but let's go a bit at a time.

    I know that it was faithfully doing it's job -- as long as immediately after I started-up my computer, I got online right away. It has always seemed to be on a timer of some sort and thus, never worked unless I followed that routine (which was fairly easy to figure out -- as Little Snitch clearly revealed).
    Even, when (Xprotect Updater) is updated by Apple, I could clearly see the increase in the size of the signature payload.
    I assume that it normally overwrites the signature cache or whatever it's supposed to do each and each & every time one first signs on (albeit promptly) because I could see it as it happened using Little Snitch. It ran like a Swiss Watch, did it's signature overwrite, thank you very much; but now I'm lost.
    Perhaps Apple is working on it at their end & it's temporarily down? Which has happened in the past and, of course, the signature payload was predictably greater once it started working again.

    All-set; problem solved.
    I found a reference to toggling "Automatically install important security updates"... found under System Prefs/Security/General.
    I did that which worked great.

  • How do I get the capture to work again?

    the day before yesterday I captured media on FCE onto my hardrive with my Canon MiniDV cam with no problem. I haven't moved anything, and yesterday I tried capturing the same media and I got 'dropped frames' so capture stops. I tried unticking "Abort capture on dropped frames" so to see if it was to do with dropped frames, and then the message was "capture encountered a problem reading the data on your source tape. This could be due to a problem with the tape." and stopped capturing as well after 4 secs.
    I have tried 5 different tapes and they all work fine on the Camera, nothing unusual. Is there a way to get this thing to work again? thanks,

    Are you using a cardbus with the camera or the drives? LaCie does not support the use of their drives with Canon cameras unless they are on separate buses. Macs only come with one built-in FireWire bus, so the recommendation is to use either a cardbus on a PowerBook a a FireWire card in a tower.
