Shuffle??

Hi i like the new nano, dont like not being able to turn it off (vote with your feet leave feedback on the apple website!) but have a slight problem with it i hope someone can help me with!
My Nano appears to shuffle each individual album, not all of my music but say for examply if i pick one album it will shuffle all the songs on that album, i dont want it to do that i want it to play them as the origonal album was laid out.

Try Restting the iPod by holding the Sleep and Volume Down buttons till it restarts to fix the Shuffling issue.
As for playlists you can try right clicking the playlist in iTunes selecting "Copy to play order". Apple needs to do some work on playlists, this has been an issue for sometime on the iPod touch. It seems to be ramdom although I see this issue mostly with my smart playlists on my nao as well as my 1G touch. Since I rely on smart playlists for my podcasts I pretty much had to quit using my touch for podcasts. Funny thing is the out of order ones on the nano are OK on the touch and visa versa.

  • How can I shuffle a playlist in iTunes for an iPod so my stereo play a large playlist in a seemingly random order

I have an iPod classic that I plug into my car stereo.  My car stereo can play playlists, or if just plug it in, it will play every song in alphabetical order.  Once plugged in, I cannot use the iPod to "shuffle".  I require a pre-shuffled playlist.  I have done this before in iTunes 11 will special instructions, but I've since misplaced those instructions.  I know how to build a large playlist of all of my songs.  Now, how do I shuffle that list of, say, 20,000 songs, and save to a new shuffled playlist?  Don't say it can't be done, because I've done it.  I know Apple removed the ability to do this quickly and easily, because obviously Apple doesn't really take their customers wants and needs into account.  Otherwise, they would see the thousands of complaints after they removed that feature.
So, is there anyone here that can help me?   I don't really need to hear that it's not supported or that it used to work.  If you know how to shuffle a playlist and save it in that shuffled state, please post the steps for doing this in Windows iTunes 11.
    Thank you in advance,
    Bluemookie

Just go to Settings, Shuffle, then turn it to Songs. The songs will stay in the same order in the playlist, but they'll switch it up.

If you go to the Now Playing screen, the Repeat control is the the arrowed racetrack icon on the left side right below the scrubber bar. Tap the icon to change. It is white when Repeat is off.

  • Remote App and shuffling a single album

I'm using iTunes 11.0.1.12 on my PC and Remote App 3.0 (598) on my Touch 5G running iOS 6.0.1, and I want to play an album with its songs shuffled. For example, I go to Artists, choose Steely Dan, then "A Decade Of Steely Dan". There's no obvious way to begin playing, so I press the first song, which begins playing. This takes me to "Up Next", which has all the songs from the album I was on, PLUS 7 songs from the album, "Everything Must Go", also by Steely Dan. This makes no sense at all, but I ignore it for the moment, as shuffling is what's on my mind. The thing is, there's no shuffle button on "Up Next", so I click on the tiny album artwork in the upper right corner, and it takes me to the traditional "Now Playing" screen, with the transport controls and big album artwork in the middle. There I find my shuffle button, so I press it, and it turns blue, so I'm all good, right? Wrong! When the next song begins, it's from some other Steely Dan album chosen at random, like "Katy Lied". When I go back to "Up Next", songs from all my Steely Dan albums now appear. All I wanted was to shuffle the one album "A Decade Of Steely Dan" and play just its songs, but this simple thing doesn't appear to be possible. Am I missing something?

Eliciting the bug requires entry to the album in the Remote App through Artists or Genres. I can leave the "Up Next" list displayed in iTunes on the PC and watch it populate with all the following albums when I do this. However, if I enter the album through Composers or Albums, only that album's tracks go into "Up Next". Unfortunately, using Composers to select albums is not a solution at all; for one thing, I only maintain Composer metadata for classical composers. Using Albums isn't really a solution either, because I like to browse by artist or composer. Interestingly, the Remote App groups albums by artist, but it's a flat list and hard to scroll through because there are so many more albums that artists, and while there is a scroll bar (column of dots) to the right, it has no letters to easily go to the p's for, say, Pink Floyd. The Artists view OTOH has letters A-Z instead of dots. I don't get the inconsistency here.
Moreover, I've found that when I press a song to begin playing, the Remote App inconsistently takes me to its "Up Next" screen as I described in my first post vs. its traditional "Now Playing" screen. I've yet to figure out what determines this.

  • New 3rd Gen. 4 GB iPod Shuffle not being recognized by computer or iTunes

Hey everyone, I've read some of the other posts here on this thread about other people having problem getting their computer to recognize the new 4 GB iPod Shuffle when plugged into the USB drive, and it seems like I am having a very similar issue. I just received my iPod in the mail a few days ago and tried plugging it into the USB and got NO response whatsoever from my computer or iTunes. I am operating with Windows XP (Service Pack 3) on a Dell Inspiron Intel processor, 2 GHz with 3 GB RAM, with iTunes 8.1 (just updated). When I put something in my USB usually I hear a noise (sounds like DO-do ha) which tells me that my laptop recognizes whatever is plugged in, and usually I get a little box in the bottom right hand part of the screen that says it's been plugged in. I didn't get any of this when I plugged it in.
When I first opened the box I turned the shuffle on and the light went green for 1 second, orange for 1 second, red for one second, then dead..I suppose this is expected since I figured it's new and needs to be charged, so I turned the shuffle off, plugged the USB into the earphone socket then into my USB, and then turned the shuffle on, and got nothing but the same sequence of lights. It's one thing if iTunes just didn't recognize the shuffle, but I checked the Device Manager and My Computer and the USB drive wasn't even listing the shuffle as being plugged in..maybe the USB cable that came with it is faulty?? I read all of the technical troubleshooting notes on here and tried the 5 R's and nothing is working at all..
I do have one guess about this though..I also have an 80 GB iPod 5th generation that I've used for over a year now for my car and that plugs into the USB fine with its respective cable and is recognized by iTunes..my question is, can my iTunes only recognize one iPod at a time? Does it reject the shuffle because iTunes is only allowed to sync to one iPod per account? If this is true, is there a way around this so it can sync both, or can I have two iTunes accounts on the same computer? But why does the computer not even recognized it when plugged in? Hopefully it is just the cable that is damaged and not the device..wow this was long, but any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

    According to http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1495
iTunes for Windows does not support having multiple iPods *connected simultaneously.*

  • IPod Shuffle Not Recognized In Windows Or iTunes v7.0 - What Now?

    Hello everyone,
I am having the same problem as many who have posted here. I have upgraded my software to iTunes v7.0.1.8. I also accepted the auto update for my iPod Shuffle - 512GB 1st Gen to v 1.44 (I believe). Of course, now my Shuffle is not recognized in iTunes and is only recognized in Windows for less than 5 seconds (as I have monitored it). I am listing below all of the actions I have taken today.
As none of these have worked, my question is now what? Does anyone have any other suggestions before I take the dreaded step of calling support? Any help is appreciated.
I am not happy with this upgrade issue at all. I expect much better from Apple.
    Steps Already Taken:
    1. Reset iPod.
    2. Set Terminal Services to "Manual" and restarted my laptop PC.
    3. Changed all USB Root Hub entries power management options to "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power option" and rebooted.
    4. Assigned my external hard drive a different letter as it was assigned to "E" and tech support documentation suggested I changed it - I changed it to "M".
    5. I stopped the iPod Service via the Services and Application interface from My Computer/Manage, reattached the Shuffle, and started the iPod Service. The Shuffle was still not recognized.
    6. I uninstalled iTunes 7.0.1.8, the Apple Software update and QuickTime. I deleted all temp directories; program files folders and all possible traces of all three pieces of this software. I also deleted my iTunes library. I reinstalled all of this software and re-built my Library. NONE OF THIS WORKED!
My 30GB Video iPod works fine and always has - it is only the shuffle for which I have this issue any only since the upgrade.
What do I do now? If no one has another fix, I will be forced to call Tech Support after an experience with them over a year ago I would almost rather throw this thing away!

qswh - I too cannot play the songs that are loaded on the shuffle. Additionally, I get a green & orange light when I plug it into a USB port and then I either get a blinking orange light or a solid orange light from there after.

  • IPod Shuffle (1st gen) is not longer recognized by computer or iTunes

I have had no problems with my iPod until this morning. I have the latest version of iTunes and recharge my battery pretty regularly on the shuffle. However, this morning my iPod isn't showing up in iTunes or on my USB port. It's not even charging. I tried 4 out of the 5 R's, but can't do the last because the iPod icon isn't showing up. It still plays songs with the battery life left.
Checked the USB port, and it's working fine. Battery light on shuffle is now red. What do I do?
    Dell Inspiron 6000   Windows XP

    Hi hmacross,
I tried one of the options in the link you provided, 'iPod not recognized when connected to Windows laptop over USB'. It didn't work but now my Shuffle is flashing orange as it does when it is charging on my XP machine. So at least we have power to it I think.
I still have do detection in Windows Explorer, Device Manager or iTunes however.
All the other options I have already tried.
    Still scratching my head lol.
Thanks for you help anyway. Got any other ideas?

  • IPod Shuffle=Can't read or write to-Can't Sync-Can't Update-or Restore-Can'

%*#.........."What the ???"..........#*% Tell ya wot.... I Aint Happy.... (òó) ( not impressed at all )
Whats goin on here ??? I've never had a problem with my Shuffle or Itunes, everythin was fine untill I updated to 'Itunes 7' and now its dead as a door nail. Upgrading to Itunes 7 all went fine, no glitches at all. Plugged my Ipod in, all is good as I can see it there. Itunes rebuilt my music library ( all is still good ) I rebuilt my playlists ( yep, all is still good ) I set it to autofill from my playlist ( cool, nearly there ) next I chose to Sync my Ipod, and it says "Updating iPod. Do not disconnect" so ok, thats alright, I'm sittin here waiting for it to sync, & waiting, .....& waiting, ...... still waiting...... eventually, up pops an error message sayin "The iPod cannot be updated. The disk could not be read from or written to." So I press Ok and find that iTunes has frozen briefly, after a minute it comes good with another message, "The iPod cannot be updated. An unknown error occured {-50}."
Ok, to cut a long story short.... I have updated the iPod software version, and it says "Your iPod is up to date"
Now everytime it tries to sync it fails so I chose to hit the 'Restore' button. It seems to to be happening but that also ends up failing with same error message. I've tried everything,.. the 5 R's... I downloaded & ran the program 'iPod Restore Utility' (it failed also) same message... 'Cannot read or write to... ' Gettin frustrated now cause I've done everything I can think of at least 2 or 3 times including uninstalling & reinstalling iTunes and starting from scratch. (yes, 2 or 3 times) & yes, I can tell you, " I'M SICK OF IT !!! "
Windows cant even see it anymore ( XP pro sp2 ). When I'm in iTunes I can see my iPod is there, but its not seen in Windows. But when I eject/disconnect it from iTunes the 'iPod Drive Icon' briefly appears in My Computer for only a second or 2 then vanishes. That happens wether "enable for disk usage" is ticked on or off. I'll just say 1 other thing & that is, I havent bumped or dropped my shuffle or wrongly plugged or unplugged it in any way at all. I have allways treated it with the utmost respect and it 'used to be' in perfect condition.
So what do you all think ? Do you agree that itunes killed my lil Shuff ???
%*# D~~m You iTUNES #*% and %*# D~~m You APPLE #*% for takin my lil Shuff from me. It was a gift from a special someone, and my very 1st and only MP3 player I've ever had.
Well, there you go, now I've had my say can I ask just one thing ?
" Can anyone offer any other suggestions that I could try ? ..............and plz, dont say " GET OVER IT " lol

Here is the answer: go to http://support.apple.com In the search box at the top left type in the number 304996 and hit enter. This will bring you to a page with 4 solutions. Click on solution number 1 and follow the instructions. This should fix it.

Now the iPod is unusable with the Recovery mode loop. The full error below:
"iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes."

  • SOLUTION: Windows Vista + iPod Shuffle 2nd Gen

My original question on this topic is closed, but I finally fixed the problem and wanted to share.
The problem was: Windows Vista Basic desktop machine and iTunes would recognize a Video iPod, but not recognize an iPod second generation Shuffle
The symptom: Vista showed an unknown USB device and kept searching for drivers, but never could find an appropriate driver. Some posts here and there suggested a power level problem on the USB ports.
The solution: the original USB 2.0 ports on this computer are all driven directly off of the motherboard. I purchased a $20 PCI USB card and installed it in the computer. I plugged the iPod shuffle into the new PCI card, and everything works fine now.
    HTH

And since you have a laptop, a new PCI card does no good. Another solution I saw around the web was to use a powered external USB 2.0 hub. You might try that.

  • Windows vista, Ipod shuffle 4th gen.  Computer cannot find device driver software for ipod.

After several hours trying the troubleshooting options provided by the apple support site, I have come to what I think is the issue here.  My girlfriend recently got an ipod shuffle and when plugging it into her computer the dialog pops up saying it is installing device driver software for the ipod.  Eventually it asks me to insert the CD that came with the ipod.  No CD came with the ipod, so I click the option that says "I do not have my cd".  Then it gives me the option of searching automatically or manually for the driver software.  The automatic way can't find it.  Doing it manually, with the help of the troubleshooting page, didn't work either.  google search can't seem to help me on this one.  Also, I tried plugging the ipod into my computer (not hers) and it worked fine, it was able to install the device driver software on its own.  Does anybody know the issue here?  My computer has windows 7, and hers has vista.  Hers is Serice Pack 1.  When I tried installing service pack 2 it wouldnt work.  I don't know if that is the issue though.  I have tried just about everything, I think the issue is finding the device driver software.  When I do a google search nothing comes up, so I have no idea what to do at this point.  Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Well its surprising to know that! But even  have an ipod shuffle 3rd gen n dint face any problem like that. FYI no cd comes with the ipod jus take ur ipod to an apple exoert n he will solve ur problem .

  • Itunes 8 not compatible with 1st generation ipod shuffle

I have had a **** of a time tonight trying to get my ipod shuffle working with itunes 8 and finally gave up after trying to restore it via itunes 8 which totally screwed it up because it wouldn't finish the restore so I had to unplug the ipod. Got a zillion ipod busy errors when trying to restore. Used disk utility to format it for apple hfs.... still wouldn't restore.... ipod busy b.s. error messages... tried formatting it for fat on itunes 7.7.1 and finally got it so that itunes could get it restored and working. Problem is... now I have to try and switch back to itunes 7.7.1 which means deleting my computer from apple tv and using disk utility to backup my older 7.7.1 over my itunes 8 in order to get back to some kind of workable solution. Plus my itunes 8 library is more up to date than my backup. So that means more messing around. Fortunately I was able to restore most, not all of the files by plugging in my ipod 80gb. For some reason it didn't copy all the new movie files over.
I've had so many problems with compatibility, crashing, locking up etc that it is no longer worth my time to try and use itunes 8.
Not only can't I change album artwork in itunes 8... it basically doesn't want to work my my old ipod shuffle either.
This is one version of itunes that was not tested properly before putting it on the download server.

    Hi there,
I would recommend taking a look at the troubleshooting steps found in the article below.
