Shuffling iPod albums through iTunes7

Hi everyone,
I am ready to tear my hair out - since upgrading to iTunes 7, I can no longer shuffle by album when playing songs from my iPod. What I like to do is keep all of my music on the iPod and listen to music with the iPod in disk mode. The iTunes library works fine - it remembers my sort settings, it shuffles randomly by album (as I have it set to do), it keeps the browser window open. However when I switch to my iPod device, it does not do any of those things. Every time I plug my iPod in, the browser is closed, the sort order is back to a default, and when I try to shuffle by album, it just starts playing the first song on the list and goes straight through! I have checked to make sure the Preferences are set correctly (they are), and I have ensured that the shuffle button in the bottom left corner is lit.
I know I saw posts about this when iTunes 7 first came out, and as far as I can tell nothing has been done about it. Can anyone offer any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi there,
I would recommend taking a look at the troubleshooting steps found in the article below.

Hi. I am having an issue with music on my IPod. It would probably be easier to explain my specific issue: I have songs by Band of Horses from Cease to Begin. When viewing my albums through cover flow, it shows Cease To Begin as two separate albums, one with only Islands on the Coast, and the other having Islands on the Coast with 3 other songs. If I delete the album with only one song from my IPod, it deletes the song from the other "album" as well. If I go to "All Songs" by Band of Horses, it only shows one Islands on the Coast, so it is not a duplicate issue. Also, in Itunes, it only shows one album. I just recently updated to iOS5 on my 4th Gen IPod Touch, if that helps.

  • Why would my ipod cycle through an album without playing any songs

why would my ipod cycle through an album without playing any songs

Mine did that too. I don't know why it happened, but I restored it to factory settings, reloaded all my songs, and now it works fine.

  • Ipod keeps shuffling the album covers of my music anytime i sync to my computer

my ipod touch 3rd gen for some reason shuffles the album covers to my music whenever i sync it to my laptop. this has happened numerous times and i try fixing it by right clicking on the song or album and clicking "get info' which then shows the correct album cover in itunes, then clicking 'ok'. im tired of doing it every time when i get new music and then sync my ipod to my computer to find out none of the albums are correct on my ipod touch. my itunes on my computer has all the correct album covers for every song. why is it doing this and how can it be fixed???

What are you trying to do exactly and how are you trying to do it?  You want to view artwork for tracks that on your iPod in iTunes? Why would you want to do that when you can just do that from your main iTunes Music library?

  • IPhoto – iPod Album sync issues

Has anybody else noticed that iPhoto albums do always make it to the iPod, but that the album sort order doesn’t? All albums – SmartAlbums and regular, that I have created since the initial iPod transfer, have wound up at the bottom of the iPod album list. This is most frustrating, as I prefer the sorted list I have in iPhoto, which usually puts the newer ones on the top. The longer I scroll through the albums, the more cautious non-iPod users become (I meet many who are otherwise quite impressed with the mobile family photo album).
My only plan to correct this is to restore my iPod.
Any and all help will be appreciated.
    Thanks,

  • 7.0.1 shared library/shuffle by album bug

    Has anyone encountered this issue?
I have run into a very bizarre bug since upgrading to iTunes 7.0. It was not fixed in 7.0.1.
I have a large iTunes library shared from my Power Mac G5. Our household has two Mac laptops (1 MB, 1 MBP) from which we play that shared music through various Airport Expresses. We mostly listen to classical music (i.e. multi-movement/track works), so I organize the music collection with the work name in the Album field and then Shuffle by Album within the classical playlist.
Since upgrading to 7.0, the machine refuses to Shuffle by Album -- but only when playing from a playlist from a shared library. Instead, it will begin with the first album and play them in alphabetical order. Playing the same playlist, shuffled by album, locally on the sharing G5 works as expected. As I like to listen to my music in exactly this way this is a very irritating bug for me.
Another related but less irritating bug: when playing from this same shared library set to "Shuffle by Album," hitting "Play" while nothing is playing will play the first album alphabetically in the list, no matter what is selected. If I want to play a different track I have to select it and then double-click it.
    Dual 1.8 G5, 15" CD MBP, white MB   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   iTunes 7.0.1

I have also experienced this problem, but it has acted a little different.
I have a large music library stored on an external hardrive (Lacie d2 Extreme) & have my iTunes playback settings for shuffle by album. I don't use playlists, I only like iTUnes to shuffle playback from my entire library.
iTUnes will begin @ song 2 or 3 of the album, play a couple songs from the album & then move to another album without playing the 1st album in it's entirety.
This is extremely annoying. Please help, anyone.

  • How to shuffle on albums and not the individual tracks on albums

    This is breaking my head.
I have ripped my CD's in iTunes and now i have a large number of songs.
I have a playlist that is uploaded to my iPod Shuffle.
    But my Q is:
How can i shuffle on my iPod shuffle between albums instead of the individual songs.
I have seen the playback options in the advanced section saying shoffle by Album. But that options does not appear to have any effect on the shuffling on my iPod.
    Any ideas
    Thanks
    Jitse

If you want to shuffle a single album go to Settings
-> Shuffle and set to Songs.
The go to Music -> Albums (or Music -> Artists->
Albums), select an album then press Play.
If you want to play albums at random, Settings ->
    Shuffle - Album.
When you play anything, it will play a song at
randiom, then play in order the songs on that album
(if it start at song #3, it will play #3 thru end)
then go to another random song in the selection and
play the remainder of that album.
All well and good... B U T the OP (and this thread) was talking about doing it on a Shuffle:
"...I have a playlist that is uploaded to my iPod Shuffle.
    But my Q is:
How can i shuffle on my iPod shuffle between albums instead of the individual songs..."
    Get it?

  • If I want to load my shuffle with albums, do I make each one a named playlist? How many playlists can be used?

If I want to load my shuffle with albums, do I make each album a "named playlist"?
If so, can I use any number of playlist I want, or is there a limit on playlist numbers?

If you want to be able to call up an album of your choosing at any time, then yes, the best option is to make a playlist for each album. I have not seen a limit, just remember that when choosing, you will be "scrolling" through them alphabetically, so the real limit is on your patience (you can use the buttons to move forward or backward more quickly).

  • No shuffle per album

My iPod Classic 80 Go will not perform shuffle per album (whatever the setting, it will perform it by song). Can anybody help fix it ? Thank you.

    Michael...
Your app looks intriguing, but I have 400+ albums on my Touch and it's a wide variety of music so when I am in the mood for Pearl Jam I would not want Yo-Yo-Ma to pop up randomly. What I would really like and I think would be a killer app type feature is to load a playlist into your app, hit randomize and go. I would even be happy to keep shuffle playlists down to 12 albums!
I typically select an artist or a mood or an era to start with and I never shuffle or even listen to just songs... only albums.
    Can it be done?

  • Ipod skipping through my tunes

    Hi,
my ipod won't play any music, when you chose the album you want to play it skips through the list and doesn't play any song, it just thinks it has, I can hear a clicking noise like it is trying to play, but nothing happens, I can see the songs on the screen, the ipod flicks through them all in about 10 seconds, any ideas what may be wrong?
    Thanks X

Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.

  • Shuffle-by-album feature!

    Hi Folks,
I have an iPod nano 2nd generation for about 5 years now, and perhaps the feature I use most is having shuffle configured to albuns, so I can listen different albuns like in a playlist, yet going sequentially on the album songs. I've recently got a 6th generation iPod nano and I was very fustrated when I figured out that this feature has gone. Is there a particular reason for that? Is there a plan for having that feature?
    Regards,

Shuffle-by-album means:  play all the songs on the album in order, and then find a completely different album.  Lather, rinse, repeat.
In the old itunes, it was pretty simple.  Select some set of albums over which to shuffle.   Turn on shuffle by albums.  Press Play.  Old Itunes also appears to have had a pheechur to skip to the next album, cntrl-alt-meta-shift-fast-forward (or something).  I never used it, never knew about it, although I always wanted it.  You could also click on any song in any album and it'd play all the rest of the songs in that album and then shuffle on to the next album (a usage model much loved by a different participant in this discussion).
The new itunes doesn't seem to have the skip-to-next-album pheechur.
Getting to shuffle-by-albums is a little baroque in the new itunes--the best we've come up with so far is:  create a playlist w/all albums over which to shuffle, and then turn on shuffle-by-album on the new playlist, then press play. The new playlist should be named in such a way to appropriately express your frustration with the new itunes.

  • Shuffle by Album on 7th generation Nano

My old 3rd generation Nano included a "Shuffle by Album" feature which chose a random album, played track 1 through the last track, then chose another random album, and so on.  I like this feature because it allows me to listen to music continuously while cycling rather than stopping to choose a new album when the current album completes.
I just bought a 7th generation Nano and have been unable to find the "Shuffle by Album" feature.  Does it exist in this version?  If so, how do I turn on "Shuffle by Album"?

Have the exact same problem on my nano g6.
from older posts: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2573122, It seems like Apple had "Shuffle by album" function removed.

  • Music shuffles half way through the song

it is a new ipod and it has started to shuffle half way through the song of a playlist What to do

    Hello,
Before we assume that there is a problem with it, try going to music options and make sure "shake to shuffle" is off, that may be the reason.

  • Nano 6th gen. - what happened to 'Shuffle by Album?'

I had a 1st generation Nano for years, and it was recently recalled in December 2011 for the battery over-heating problem.
I presumed that I'd probably receive back somebody else's refurbished Nano with a new battery in exchange - which would be fine as long as it functions correctly.  Apple opted to replace my old Nano with a new 6th generation Nano.  Normally, I wouldn't complain about getting a band new, smaller device with twice the storage, but...
    1.  None of my peripherals work well.  My Belkin TuneBase FM adapter for the car doesn't work.  My iHome clock radio and Memorex speaker dock still will play the Nano 6th gen, but neither can now recharge the battery.  That's about $200 worth of peripherals that will need to be replaced.
    2.  From a usability standpoint, the disappearance of shuffle by album is very annoying.  I like mostly classical and jazz albums, and it doesn't make much sense to listen to the 2nd movement of Tchaikovsky's 5th Symphony followed by the heart beat intro of Dark Side of the Moon followed by the part of Alban Berg's Lulu suite.
I have a feeling that for now I'm just going to have to live with it.  I know it is possible to join tracks in iTunes, but that appears to be a one-way process.  I would still like to be able to start listening at a particular tack of an album if I want.  I hope I am missing something that is an obvious fix.  If anybody from Apple is listening, I'd love to have Shuffle by Album added to a wish list for future firmware updates.  If Apple had to remove the feature because somebody else patented the idea of shuffling albums - perhaps a work-around would be to add a shuffle by play-list feature.  I could list the things I like to listen to in order in play lists, then allow the Nano to shuffle lists.

That'd be good, if I didn't want to shuffle albums. But "shuffle albums" ends up shuffling albums, yes, but with an extremely heavy bias towards albums of one artist. I'd like to see this fixed. My previous iPods and current iPod Classic, when set to shuffle albums, does not do this. Neither does my iPhone, but I can only get albums to shuffle when using the Griffin Navigate (which is a function the iPhone ought to share with the other iPods).
And yes, I did leave feedback on Apple's feedback site just a few minutes ago.
Thanks for the response, my friend. I appreciate the suggestion.

  • I downloaded 2 cds onto my ipod nano through itunes.  Recently my itunes account changed and now it doesn't recognize the songs from the cds.  How to transfer from ipod back to itunes?  I don't have the cds anymore.

I downloaded 2 cds onto my ipod nano through itunes.  Recently my itunes account changed for some unknown reason and now it doesn't recognize the songs from the cds.  The songs are still on my ipod.  I am affraid to sync now because the songs may be deleated, and I don't have the cds anymore.  How can I transfer the songs from the cds on my ipod back to itunes so that I don't lose them?

What you have on your computer is your iTunes library, not your "account."  The "account" you have for iTunes is your Apple ID, which you use when purchasing or downloading from the iTunes Store.  If these songs came from music CDs that you imported into iTunes, those songs are not related to your Apple ID.
Recently my itunes account changed for some unknown reason and now it doesn't recognize the songs from the cds
How are they not "recognized"?  Are the songs still listed in your iTunes music library, but grayed out?  They no longer appear in your iTunes library at all?
If you search your computer (not in iTunes) for the song files, using one of the song names, can you find the song files?
