Shuffling Playlists/Albums

So I got my iPod Nano and I love it to death. Being my first Apple product ever owned it took me a while to get used to the whole interface of iTunes and how it worked with iPod, but after a whole evening of playing with it I think I got the hang of it. That being said, I'm having a couple of issues I could really use some help with.
With the iPod Nano, I can shuffle from the menu but it just shuffles every single song in my iPod. I have several playlists like "Hard Rock" when snowboarding or "Relaxed" for when i'm just hangin' out and want to listen to Jack Johnson or whatever. But I can't for the life of me find a way to just shuffle the current playlist that i'm using. The same goes for playing by Album or Artist, if I put a certain Album or Artist on and want to shuffle all those songs i'm currently listening to, I can't for the life of me figure out how.
Also on a side note, I spent ALL NIGHT getting album art over to my iTunes by going through and copying the art itself from my mp3 folders and applying it to the album by selecting the entire album in iTunes, right clicking, selecting "get info" and pasting it in that picture.
Is there a way to set iTunes to automatically grab album art if you are adding pre-made mp3 folders into your iTunes directory? It would save me tons of time.

Main Menu - Settings - Shuffle - Toggle to "Songs". Now when you select an Artist or a playlist it will shuffle the songs in the collection or playlist you selected

  • If I want to load my shuffle with albums, do I make each one a named playlist? How many playlists can be used?

If I want to load my shuffle with albums, do I make each album a "named playlist"?
If so, can I use any number of playlist I want, or is there a limit on playlist numbers?

If you want to be able to call up an album of your choosing at any time, then yes, the best option is to make a playlist for each album. I have not seen a limit, just remember that when choosing, you will be "scrolling" through them alphabetically, so the real limit is on your patience (you can use the buttons to move forward or backward more quickly).

  • Shuffle Playlist songs only

Hey I have an 80gb video, and i love it
but im dissapointed with apple for having very little instructions on how to use it (i've figured most of it out now) but i just made a playlist after four months and im a little mad. for one reason and that is because the songs dont shuffle, but then when i go into the settings and turn shuffle songs only on it shuffles the playlist but also all of my songs and albums (which is really stupid, there should be a shuffle playlist setting) unless there is something else i can do, help is appreciated

Shuffle Songs from the main menu will shuffle everything.
If you select Settings -> Shuffle - songs, whatever you select will be shuffled.
If you do not want to shuffle a selection, you must set Settings -> Shuffle to Off.
There is no shuffle setting for playlist by playlist basis.

  • Classical Music and Shuffle by Album

Because multi-movement pieces do not lend themselves to track-by-track shuffling, I've treated each of my classical pieces as separate albums. For example, I have:
    I. Allegro Agitato

Here I have three works, each setup as an album. So, when I listen to playlists like this (imagine it being much longer), what I want to do is Shuffe by Album so I can listen to each work in its entirety in order. On the Mac, iTunes supports this, but on iOS devices, it does not appear to be possible to do this. All shuffling under iOS takes place at the track level. Am I just missing something?
I do have the Shuffle By Album app, but (a) it doesn't work on Apple TV and (b) it doesn't know about playlists, so I can use it to shuffle by album all my music, but not selected playlists. Is there a solution to this?
    Thanks,
    Dave

It's worse than I thought. The playlists on my iPad are in crap order. This as close to useless as I can imagine. Why is this feature still not available?

  • 7.0.1 shared library/shuffle by album bug

    Has anyone encountered this issue?
I have run into a very bizarre bug since upgrading to iTunes 7.0. It was not fixed in 7.0.1.
I have a large iTunes library shared from my Power Mac G5. Our household has two Mac laptops (1 MB, 1 MBP) from which we play that shared music through various Airport Expresses. We mostly listen to classical music (i.e. multi-movement/track works), so I organize the music collection with the work name in the Album field and then Shuffle by Album within the classical playlist.
Since upgrading to 7.0, the machine refuses to Shuffle by Album -- but only when playing from a playlist from a shared library. Instead, it will begin with the first album and play them in alphabetical order. Playing the same playlist, shuffled by album, locally on the sharing G5 works as expected. As I like to listen to my music in exactly this way this is a very irritating bug for me.
Another related but less irritating bug: when playing from this same shared library set to "Shuffle by Album," hitting "Play" while nothing is playing will play the first album alphabetically in the list, no matter what is selected. If I want to play a different track I have to select it and then double-click it.
    Dual 1.8 G5, 15" CD MBP, white MB   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   iTunes 7.0.1

I have also experienced this problem, but it has acted a little different.
I have a large music library stored on an external hardrive (Lacie d2 Extreme) & have my iTunes playback settings for shuffle by album. I don't use playlists, I only like iTUnes to shuffle playback from my entire library.
iTUnes will begin @ song 2 or 3 of the album, play a couple songs from the album & then move to another album without playing the 1st album in it's entirety.
This is extremely annoying. Please help, anyone.

  • How to shuffle on albums and not the individual tracks on albums

    This is breaking my head.
I have ripped my CD's in iTunes and now i have a large number of songs.
I have a playlist that is uploaded to my iPod Shuffle.
    But my Q is:
How can i shuffle on my iPod shuffle between albums instead of the individual songs.
I have seen the playback options in the advanced section saying shoffle by Album. But that options does not appear to have any effect on the shuffling on my iPod.
    Any ideas
    Thanks
    Jitse

If you want to shuffle a single album go to Settings
-> Shuffle and set to Songs.
The go to Music -> Albums (or Music -> Artists->
Albums), select an album then press Play.
If you want to play albums at random, Settings ->
    Shuffle - Album.
When you play anything, it will play a song at
randiom, then play in order the songs on that album
(if it start at song #3, it will play #3 thru end)
then go to another random song in the selection and
play the remainder of that album.
All well and good... B U T the OP (and this thread) was talking about doing it on a Shuffle:
"...I have a playlist that is uploaded to my iPod Shuffle.
    But my Q is:
How can i shuffle on my iPod shuffle between albums instead of the individual songs..."
    Get it?

  • No shuffle per album

My iPod Classic 80 Go will not perform shuffle per album (whatever the setting, it will perform it by song). Can anybody help fix it ? Thank you.

    Michael...
Your app looks intriguing, but I have 400+ albums on my Touch and it's a wide variety of music so when I am in the mood for Pearl Jam I would not want Yo-Yo-Ma to pop up randomly. What I would really like and I think would be a killer app type feature is to load a playlist into your app, hit randomize and go. I would even be happy to keep shuffle playlists down to 12 albums!
I typically select an artist or a mood or an era to start with and I never shuffle or even listen to just songs... only albums.
    Can it be done?

  • Required to "Copy to Play Order" for my non-shuffled playlists

Hi. My playlists synced to my iPhone are in Album order. Beginning about a month ago, adding a new album to a playlist results in the album going to the bottom of the playlist on my iPhone. It's correct on iTunes, but wrong on the iPhone. The workaround is to right-click on the playlist and select "Copy to Play Order" before syncing.
I've been using playlist-based syncing two or three times a day since I bought my nano in 2006, and have never had to do this before; the "Copy to Play Order" command is supposed to only be required when you want to use the sequence of a shuffled playlist on iPhone or iPod.
The only thing that happened around the time the problem started was that I permanently turned off iTunes Match. Creating fresh playlists didn't correct the problem.
    Please help!

Hi. Can anyone tell me if this is now normal behavior, or is this something no-one else has seen?

  • Shuffle-by-album feature!

    Hi Folks,
I have an iPod nano 2nd generation for about 5 years now, and perhaps the feature I use most is having shuffle configured to albuns, so I can listen different albuns like in a playlist, yet going sequentially on the album songs. I've recently got a 6th generation iPod nano and I was very fustrated when I figured out that this feature has gone. Is there a particular reason for that? Is there a plan for having that feature?
    Regards,

Shuffle-by-album means:  play all the songs on the album in order, and then find a completely different album.  Lather, rinse, repeat.
In the old itunes, it was pretty simple.  Select some set of albums over which to shuffle.   Turn on shuffle by albums.  Press Play.  Old Itunes also appears to have had a pheechur to skip to the next album, cntrl-alt-meta-shift-fast-forward (or something).  I never used it, never knew about it, although I always wanted it.  You could also click on any song in any album and it'd play all the rest of the songs in that album and then shuffle on to the next album (a usage model much loved by a different participant in this discussion).
The new itunes doesn't seem to have the skip-to-next-album pheechur.
Getting to shuffle-by-albums is a little baroque in the new itunes--the best we've come up with so far is:  create a playlist w/all albums over which to shuffle, and then turn on shuffle-by-album on the new playlist, then press play. The new playlist should be named in such a way to appropriately express your frustration with the new itunes.

  • Did iTunes 11 lose "shuffle by album" feature, or am I just too dumb to find it?

Hi there! I updated to itunes 11 this morning, and ordinarily liked to use "shuffle by albums" when listening to my music, but can't seem to find that feature anywhere. Am I not looking in the right places, or has this feature been cruelly snatched from my expectant fingers?

It does not look like this is possible with iTunes 11 (or 11.0.1).

  • HeIp Ipod Shuffle "Playlist" no longer appear in itunes when disconnected.

I got a new laptop and was forced to load up the latest version of itunes, which for me has worked fine. I connected my first gen. shuffle and married it to my new computer. But on my old computer/version of itunes i was able to keep the "shuffle's playlist" on itunes at all times so it was easy to tweak my songs and then whenever i charged my ipod all the songs would update. now it seems i cannot keep the playlist contents of my shuffle on itunes and have to update the shuffle manually while its connected which takes much more time. Where is the setting to change this so i can see the shuffle playlist all the time?

It appears from many other posts that the " Keep This iPod in the Source List" function isn't included in iTunes 7 unfortunately. You can leave your feedback on it's absence at this link: Apple Product Feedback
You can check out a workaround at this link which may help out for now: Create ready-to-sync playlists for Shuffles in iTunes 7

  • Shuffling iPod albums through iTunes7

    Hi everyone,
I am ready to tear my hair out - since upgrading to iTunes 7, I can no longer shuffle by album when playing songs from my iPod. What I like to do is keep all of my music on the iPod and listen to music with the iPod in disk mode. The iTunes library works fine - it remembers my sort settings, it shuffles randomly by album (as I have it set to do), it keeps the browser window open. However when I switch to my iPod device, it does not do any of those things. Every time I plug my iPod in, the browser is closed, the sort order is back to a default, and when I try to shuffle by album, it just starts playing the first song on the list and goes straight through! I have checked to make sure the Preferences are set correctly (they are), and I have ensured that the shuffle button in the bottom left corner is lit.
I know I saw posts about this when iTunes 7 first came out, and as far as I can tell nothing has been done about it. Can anyone offer any suggestions? Thanks!

  • HOW DO I CREATE A 30GB SHUFFLE PLAYLIST FROM ITUNES LIBRARY TO FILL MY IPOD

is it possible to generate a playlist lets call it, that is like a shuffle playlist but able to fill an ipod? where would i find the command like, " fill ipod randomly from itunes library"? wouldn't it be great !! just hook up the pod and have it filled with random songs from your library. every day you could have a new playlist, but a really big and different one.
    g4 power mac   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Just create a new Smart playlist.
Limit it to 27.5GB at Random.
Also, set it to My rating is not One Star.
Rate songs you do not want on the iPod to One star.
Connect the iPod & select it as the Source.
Go to the Music tab and set to Sync only this playlist.
To change the music, select this playlist in iTunes.
Select all songs and press Delete. It will fill up again at random.

  • Where can i find the shuffle playlist?

Hi, currently i am using iTunes 9.0.2, before i update to this version, when i play shuffle, i can see a playlist mix with all shuffle songs (which i know whats next shuffle song, and if i dont like it i can simply click shuffle and it will update a new list of shuffle songs), may i know if they cancel the shuffle playlist view in version 9? Thanks.

The old "Party Shuffle" has been replaced with the "iTunes DJ".
    Here's more about that: http://www.macworld.com/article/139720/2009/03/itunesdj.html
