Shuffling Songs Within Playlists

I have a 5th Gen. iPod (30gb)0. I need to know how to shuffle within playlists. I appreciate any help.
Thanks

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Go to settings-->shuffle and set it to songs.
Then go to music-->playlists. When the playlist you
want to shuffle is highlighted, hit play.

btabz: Thank you thank you thank you. I searched through most of the Apple tutorials for clarification on this issue; they sometimes are quite poorly written. You saved me a lot of headache.

Storage space on the iPod would not affect shuffled playlists or playlist shuffling, though substantially full iPods may wind up skipping songs on larger playlists after a while, and require a restart.  As for compressing the files themselves, you can automatically re-encode files to a lower bitrate by checking the box on the summary page when your iPod is connected to your PC/Mac.
As for the shuffle problem, after restarting your iPod (hold the center button and Menu for a few seconds, until the Apple logo appears), make sure you're telling the iPod to shuffle the songs in a playlist by repeatedly clicking the center button until the Suffle Menu comes up, then scroll to the right to turn it on.  From that song forward, the playlists' contents should be shuffled every time the playlist ends, or is accessed from a new song.
Shuffle does sometimes turn itself off, I've found, so double-check the setting is still on.  Also, iPods shuffle by randomly assigning a playlist order for your songs, which is different from traditional shuffle (on, say, iTunes or Windows Media Player, where the new song is determined at random upon the current track ending.  The iPod only chooses a random order of songs when you shuffle, to conserve battery life and queue up songs coming up on the playlist in the event of a shock).

  • How do I shuffle songs within Playlists?

I'm new at this. How do I shuffle songs within each individual playlist?
So far I only know how to shuffle when I'm not using a playlist.

    lol
Don't worry about it. I have read original posts wrong and have tried troubleshooting a different issue than the person was having. After about the 5th or 6th reply, I'll read something that doesn't make sense (in relation to the problem), go back, and realize my BIG mistake!

  • Problem with shuffling tracks within playlists

I'm having trouble shuffling songs within playlists.  I have an iPhone 5s with iOS 8.1.2.
If I open a playlist and press 'Shuffle' (or the Shuffle icon) above the first song, nothing happens--the playlist will not play, and I'm unable to play any of the individual songs within the playlist (the songs in the list will gray-out briefly when clicking on them).
If I start a playlist and try shuffling from the 'Now Playing' screen, only the current song will play.  For example, I hit 'Shuffle'--"Shuffle All' is highlighted but '1 of 41' becomes '1 of 1.'  If I then hit 'Shuffle All," '1 of 1' becomes '0 of 0.'
Thus far, the only way I can shuffle a playlist is to ask Siri to do it (and she doesn't always understand the playlist names).
Am I doing something wrong, or is there a bug here?
    Thanks.

It seems to occur more frequently lately. You can still add songs by right-click < Add to Playlist, although this is not as convenient as drag-n-drop. Hopefully it will get fixed soon.

  • Shuffle seems unable to shuffle songs within a playlist

suddenly now, I no longer have the option to shuffle songs within a playlist. I can shuffle all songs in the music library or shuffle albums within a playlist. I want to shuffle songs within a playlist.

  • Can't Organize Songs Within Playlists

I would like to organize the songs within playlists alphabetically to make them easier to find. I've tried hitting the tab in Itunes, and within the program they're organized. But when I go to the Nano they are still all mixed up. I put in all the artists and tried to organize it through that category, and still they were unorganized on the Nano. Any other suggestions?

I just did a test. I created a 'test playlist', then I selected all songs in my music lib and copied it to the new 'test playlist'. Low and behold, all songs are in alpha order by song name.

  • Playlist that shuffles songs within ratings categories

I'm trying to create a smart playlist that plays all the songs in a genre from highest ranking to lowest ranking, BUT, I want the songs within each Star rating to play in shuffle mode. In other words, I want all my 4-5 stars to play before playing any 3 star rated songs, but I want the 4-5 star songs to shuffle so I don't always hear the Playlist songs in the same order. Can iTunes do that?

  • Why can't I set my iPod to shuffle songs within a playlist?

My iPod 160 GB Classic runs version 2.0.4. My iPod Nano (version 1.0.2) has that feature. In settings I've set shuffle to "songs".

You can set an iPod Classic to shuffle in a Playlist. Well, my Classic (running 1.1.2 PC) can.
What are you doing after setting shuffle to songs in the Settings menu?
What you need to do is scroll down to the Playlist of your choice and either:
highlight the Playlist and press the Play button (which will play a song at random from that Playlist). When that song finishes, another song will be played - at random - from that same Playlist
enter the Playlist and choose a song that you want to be played first. When that song finishes, another song from that Playlist will be chosen - at random - to be played.
When songs are being played in shuffle mode (the random choice of song), you will see the shuffle icon in the top right corner of the screen. (It's the same icon when in shuffle albums mode.) What happens, that is different, in your case?

  • Shuffle songs within a playlist before syncingio

I can't use shuffle on my ipod player in my car or on the one that's attached to my TV.
I would like to shuffle the songs in a playlist and then sync it so they'll play in that order.
    Is that doable?

From the main menu>Settings>Shuffle>Songs. Then, navigate back to the playlist, artist, album or genre NAME you want to shuffle. With the name highlighted, push play (not select).
    Best of luck

  • Shuffle songs from playlist only

Is is possible to only shuffle from a playlist and not the complete ipod library ?
    Thanks

To turn on shuffle in settings, go to Settings-->Shuffle and set it to Songs.
Then, as Wesler said, go to the main menu, go to Music-->Playlists, scroll to the playlist you want to shuffle, and click Play.

  • Shuffle songs on playlists!

How do I get my indivdual playlists to shuffle? The only option I seem to have under shuffling songs is the entire library.... help!

    Right.
    Select songs. (settings-->shuffle-->songs)
Now go back to the main menu and go to music-->playlists. Scroll to the playlist you want and hit play. That playlist will now shuffle.
Know that the shuffle on the main menu will always shuffle everything.
