Shut Down window prompt continues to randomly pop up..

The " Are you sure you want to shut down your computer now" continues to pop up when i leave my MacBook (2010, 7,1) idle for a few seconds. It means doing any tasks becomes very frustrating as I have to continue to cancel the operation.  It is the same window prompt that opens when you push the power button. I am wondering if the power button is sticking, although it does not on the surface appear to be or if there is another simpler solution. Cheers.

I would start troubleshooting this by resetting the System Management Controller. Let us know if this does not resolve your issue.
Best of luck.

  • Shut down window keeps popping up...

This issue keeps me busy since Snow Leopard already, and I thought it's done with a new Mac (Early MBP this year, migrated via Time machine) or Lion (installed right after launch) - but still there:
My 15' MBP (early this year) is connected to a 30 inch Cinema Display (one of the last versions available) via an Apple cable ($99).
Now I disconnect my MBP from the Cinema and work mobile, and not every time, but very often, I come back and connect it back to the Cinema, the "shut down" screen keeps popping up. If i hit cancel, it comes back in seconds. There is no alogorithm to get it going...at some point it just stops. This was partly ok with Snow Leopard, since this screen could have been just moved to a spare part of the screen and I could continue working...but under Lion, you cannot mve it away and work - since the shut down window is dominant and keeps getting activated. I have attached a screenshot of the shut down window so everyone knows what I am talking about.
How can I get rid of the issue? It's not a hardware issue, since I had 2 Macbook pros with the same issue...seems to be a software issue.
    Can you help?
    Thanks, Markus

  • Frequent "Firefox has encountered a problem and needs to shut down" window. Need to disable adblock plus and AVG safe search to continue. Any way to fix?

For about a third of websites I visit, at some point I receive a "Firefox has encountered a problem and needs to shut down" window. I have to disable both Adblock plus and AVG safe search in order to continue. This used to happen for two or so sites, and I disabled the ad-ons before going to those sites. It has increased to the point that the adblock plus and safe search ad-ons are becoming pretty useless. Is there any way to rectify this problem. Sending error reports has no effect.

I tried to update but it would not allow me to update, isn't that odd!?
Have you changed anything in the Photoshop installation areas?  If the updater doesn't find a pristine installation it will fail.
The only area you should ever put anything into is the plug-ins subfolder.  Everything else is hands-off.

  • I can't shut down iphoto, it continues to say "photos are being imported to the library"

I tried to download about 70 photos from my camera and it kept saying 1 photo remaining for over 30 minutes so I removed my camera and just figured there was something wrong with the download.  Now, when I try to shut down iphoto it continues to say "Photos are being imported to the photo library.  Please wait for import to complete."  This has been going on now for 2 hours.

Type Command+Option+Esc and in the Force Quite Applications window select iPhoto and force quit it.

I have been getting the "DM has encountered a problem and needs to shut down" message each time a connect my device (pearl).  Have tried several of the tips I have harvested from these forums:
    Delete the intelisync folder (http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/dynamickc.do?externalId=KB11703&sliceId=SAL_Public&command=show&forwa...)
    FIXPST (http://supportforums.blackberry.com/rim/board/message?board.id=BlackBerryDesktopSoftware&message.id=...)
    Uninstall and Reinstall DM
But to no avail.  Still looking for the right approach

The thing is, this MUST be an Audition CC issue for two reasons. One, everything worked fine in CS6, which I was using right before I upgraded to CC. I even did a clean install of it by removing CS6 completely.
All versions of Audition can co-exist on the same machine quite happily - there is no interaction between them at all, and the system was designed to be like this. So there's nothing to stop you keeping CS5.5, CS6, CC and even Audition3 on the same machine.
The other thing I'm wondering about is Windows 8. There have been a considerable number of complaints about this doing weird things, including with Audition. I have a system that in many ways is very similar to yours, except that I don't overclock the mobo, and use a professional sound device (or two) with it (RME). The major difference though is that I use Windows 7 pro 64-bit, and I haven't had any of these problems at all. Yes I use it for a living, as well, but I don't bother with multiple DAWs - don't have time for all that these days. But I do use iZotope's RX software in its standalone mode without any difficulty.
I'm not claiming that  Audition CC is trouble-free - any number of Mac users will confirm that - but people running it on W7 certainly seem to have far fewer problems with it. It may also be worth trying an uninstall-reinstall of CC - you never know. But differences in preview quality certainly point towards audio drivers, I'm afraid...

  • Virtualized servers get stuck at "Shutting down Windows Modules Installer service ..."

    Hi,
I have a Windows 2008 R2 (no service pack) server that has been virtualized last summer and since then:
    - Windows Update does not download any updates (it says Cancelled for every update in the Update History)
    - When I reboot the vm, it gets stuck on "Shutting down Windows Modules Installer service ..." and I have to cold-Reset the vm to get it working again.
I tried running Windows Update Standalone Installer (Windows6.1-KB947821-v20-x64.msu) on the machine, but that gets stuck on "searching for updates"...
I tried stopping the Windows Update service but that doesn't work either, it says that the service is not responding...
I'm not sure what to try next, I'd appreciate any pointers.
    Thanks a lot,
    Guillaume

  • Skype Crashed when shutting down Windows with ASUS Xonar audio

This has been a problem for a while now. Various updates have (temporarily) fixed it only to have another update come along and re-break it.  Every time I shut down windows 8.1 Skype prevents windows from shutting down because it's crashed and I have to click OK he get skype to go away so my system will shut down or reboot. It's quite annoying.

I checked this again and found out that the issue is still here.
I have an assumption that the issue is related to the hybrid power off mode, that was presented in windows 8. As you know, starting from windows 8, your windows never shuts down completely. Memory of the system session (ring 0) is dumped to the disk on windows shut down, and loaded on next windows start. This approach gives us less start up time, but works only if hardware not changed during the shutdown. When you restart your windows it shuts down completely and you can see the difference in a boot time. Because of this new mode windows creators moved some drivers from system session to the user session (printers etc).
When I disabled all sounds in the skype settings I got following behavior:error appears on shutdownerror doesn't appears on restart.

  • Software upgrade shuts down windows at 'boot ROM"

I have tried multiple times to upgrade to 4.5 device software from the desktop manager. It always shuts down windows...showing a blue screen, locks up my phone until I remove the battery.....then restart my laptop and it says it recovered from a "fatal error". Tmobile  first told me to download latest version of desktop manager, which I did.  I still have the same problem, then they told me it is my computer and couldn't help me. I have Windows XP w/latest updates.  Anyone have any idea why this is happening? Thank you!

I am having this exact same problem my phone restarts when updating the software after boot ROM, then it says there has been a fatal error. it does this everytime i try update my software. so any help would be handy.

  • X240 No Power After Shutting Down Windows

I'm working on X240 Thinkpad which is not powering-up. After replacing the planar it booted but after shutting down Windows, it won't power-up again. I notcied that it powers on again after reseating all battery including the (CMOS battery), but is dead again once you shutdown windows. BIOS FW is updated and its passing the self test. Pressinng the reset button thru pin hole does not solve the issue. It always need resetting all battery (CMOS battery included). Problem does not occur when the thinkpad is not booted to windows and shutdown via power button only. Thanks in advance. Please note that the planar has been replaced for the 2nd time in the span of around 2 months.

I've had a similar problem with the laptop before this one. I could tell you to try to take the battery out and hold down the power button for 5 seconds and then put the battery back, but that probably won't work. I could tell you to hold down the altcommandp or o and try to reset the ram, but that won't work. Your issue sounds like the power supply and your laptop is most likely dead.
If you bought it from apple.com you will have to return it and deal with the most incompetent customer service people on the planet. Took them 2 months to get my issue resolved.
I wish you the best of luck.

  • IPod shutting down Windows

Okay, so after I finally restored my iPod having many problems with it (I did it on a different computer), I tried to plug it into my laptop to sync everything.
Now, whenever it starts to sync (in the middle of syncing my games) Windows shuts down due to 'safety precautions' or whatever the blue screen usually says. Any suggestions/common problems?

A bit odd that you've just got the one. But since it falls within the relevant period let's start with that one.
Assuming here that you've got a 32-bit version of Vista.
    1. Download and install the Windows debugging tools from here:
    http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/devtools/debugging/installx86.mspx
    2. Go to Start, All Programs, Debugging Tools For Windows, Windbg
Once you open Windbg, you will presented with a blank screen.
    3. Click on "File > Symbol File Path". Here you will enter the symbols
path. Symbols are needed to effectively debug.
    The path will be:
    SRVc:symbolshttp://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols
    4. Enter in this path and click OK. Now, go to "File > Save Workspace"
so that your symbols path is saved for future use.
    5. Go to "File > Open Crash Dump" and load the file.
(An "Open Crash Dump" screen will appear ... doubleclick "Computer", doubleclick "Local Disk", doubleclick "Windows", doubleclick "Minidump", and doubleclick on the April minidump in there.)
*If you get a dialog at this point saying you don't have permission to open the file,* try this: OK out of the permission warning dialog. Right-click on the minidump file (In the "Open Crash Dump" screen), and select "Properties". Click the "Security" tab. Click the "Advanced" button. Click "Continue". Check the "Include inheritable permissions from this object's parent" checkbox, and click OK. Click Yes when the Windows security box comes up. Close the "properties" screens at this point, and go back to "Open Crash Dump", and try doubleclicking on the minidump again.
You will/should get a message to save base workspace information. Choose no.
Now you will get a debugging screen. It takes a little bit to run it,
as the symbols have to be downloaded as they are needed.
After the "bugcheck analysis" part of the screen comes up, look for the component that seems to be causing the crash.
Let us know the precise name of the component. (Include any file name extensions like .dll or .sys.)

  • Usb Keyboard brings up shut down window. whats wrong?

I have a Logitech wave USB keyboard that I use with my Intel IMac. I've been using this keyboard for almost a year with out a problem. Recently however, whenever I plug my keyboard into the one of the USB slots a window pops up asking if I'm sure I want to shut down the computer. It gives four option buttons; restart, sleep, cancel, and shutdown. when I hit cancel the window goes away for a few mins then comes back. when I hit cancel again it comes back again but with in a few seconds and will keep coming back. when I hit restart it seams to fix it but it then comes back after 30 mins. I've run virus scans with two different programs (Norton and ClamXav), I've repaired disk permissions, and I've put in the install disk booted the computer up with that and did a repair disk but the problem still exists. Does anyone know what's wrong and can help me?

The keyboard combo Control-Ejectkey will bring up the "Restart - Sleep - Cancel - Shutdown" screen.
Perhaps the keyboard is damaged in an odd way such that it is transmitting the signal which would be sent by that key combo.
One way to test for that would be to try a different keyboard.

  • Ipod nano shuts down windows as soon as is connected

I have just purchased an ipod nano 4th generation, downloaded itunes software with no problem, the nano is fully charged, this has been done on a different computer, my problem is that soon as I connect the ipod via the usb cable the pc shuts down and then tries to restart itself (no blue screen)it will not restart though whilst the ipod is connected, i have read that i should update usb drivers but am not able to see which one the ipod connects to as the shut down is fairly instant, has anyone else had this problem and how could it be resolved, need big help please

I've experienced the same problem since 21st November and attended the Ipod Genius Bar at Oxford Street and still no resolution. Today i have both my childrens Nano 4th Generation working/syncing etc.
The Nano identifies an apple ipod driver when connected to the computer for the first time when online. Itunes refuses to accepts this and shuts down, similar to your problem.
Without being online or opening itunes i opened computer management then device manager and disable the apple driver.
I then opened the assigned a USB Mass Storage Device driver to the Nano. I then opened the Nano in windows and found several files including calender etc on the disk. I deleted all the contents and disconnected it from the computer through the eject device feature.
I then opened Itunes and connected the Nano and it recognised it and required it to be fully restored which i did.
I have since connected it to Itunes Store etc and no problems.
By the way i have removed both Itunes & Quicktime no less than eleven times and reassigned drive letters to the Nano as well as re-create my itunes library on a seperate disk drive but the problem stems from the device drives and the programs/files already on the Nano.
    I hope this helps.
