Shutdown and closing program

I have a program that runs automatically on startup called SX-Virtual Link. It's for my print server. When I shutdown my Mac I always get prompted to shut this program down first. Is there a way to automatically shut it down when I shutdown?

There are a couple of applications I have used to stress test my system. The first application is Everest Ultimate. Look under the menu Tools/System Stability Test. The second is OCCT. The Linpack test is great to start off with.
I was having problems with PrE 8 either crashing or behaving funny. At that time I was running 4 GB DDR3 1333 MHz and not overclocked. PrE was showing the most problems where almost I could not use the software at all. I was having other random issues too - but only about once every other week.
I stress tested my system and determined there was an issue. I could not complete a single round of stress testing.
I attempted to change my system settings, send the RAM in for exchange, etc... but could not get the system stable. Others who had the same motherboard as mine recommended to switch to a different DDR3 vendor. I did and immediately all my issues were resolved. After one month of stability I added another 4 GB. I have had zero issues with my system since I made the switch which has been well over a year ago. The system just runs and runs.
How much space is left on your OS drive?
What are your virtual memory settings configured for right now?
Where did you tell PrE to put the temporary files (scratch disk locations?

I have a problem with a grey text box. It writes and says all i do. For example: When i now write it says all the letters one for one. If i open a new rogram it says so. If i click on something it gives me information about it. I can click the box and drag it, but dont close it. I have restarted the computer and closing all windows and programs. It just popped out when i was pressing some buttons on the mac. I think it is a easy way to fix it, but i cant find out what it is named and search for it. I think it is made for help and i did not download anything to get it. If i change user on the mac it does go away when I am on the other user, but i really want to keep the one i have because off all the settings and programs i have.

That link takes you to the Facebook for iPhone app.
You have posted in the Mac App Store for Mac OS X. (I know it's somewhat confusing especially with the new forum format).
Try deleting the Facebook app from the iPhone by pressing down on the app on the iPhone until it jiggles then tap the circle with an x in it. Then tap the Home button to stop all the apps from jiggling.
Now tap the App Store icon and and re download the Facebook app again.
If that doesn't make a difference, post over in the iPhone Discussions forum at this link.

Every time I open iPhoto (as of today) after a few seconds the coloured wheel appears and the program become unresponsive. I have tried closing my computer. I assume I have a corrupt file but at the moment I cannot access anything in the program?

Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

Have now closed system both cold (full shutdown) and warm (restart) over 10 times. Every time I go to reinstall I get message.

I would run http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html and delete any Acrobat folders that have been created, then try again. Be sure to log in as the administrator and disable anti-virus when you have problems like this.

It is odd that you are seeing a dialog saying it needs to be removed. Can you post a screenshot of that?
If a particular update version is already installed, regardless of the build number in the case of EA builds, you will see a message saying that it is already installed, you can then continue or cancel.
Why is it that you were trying to reinstall? As you called out the 64bit OS it may be the case that a 64bit JRE was installed and the JRE is not working in the 32 browser. I mention this as this is a common case. Really only IE has a 64bit browser for Windows, Chrome and Firefox are do not provide production 64bit browsers and thus the 64bit plugin will not run in those browsers. Windows 8 as a bit more of a hurdle as Java must be run on the desktop rather then the start screen and the 32bit browser, as I recall, is the default. Java.com will not provide the 64bit JRE unless a 64bit browser is being used for just this reason. Here are a few links that cover this:

I'm calling an external program from my java code and that program takes about 1hr to end its tasks so i want to en my calling program meanwhile.
Is there a way to do this?

My caller program is a console based program
The program to be called is started by .sh script in unix/.bat in windows
The caller program performs the call to the second and the second program is started but the problem is the caller program never ends, it just waits to the called program ends its tasks and then it ends. I dont want this.
I want the second program be started and the caller program can ends without taking care in which moment the second program ends, of course in automatic way, with no final user ending the caller program.

My ipad 3 is very slow and the programs are closing it down

Hello,I was wondering know if someone can help me with this, my ipad it is working very slow, also the keyboard have a long delay and the programs are going off of freezes. It is an Ipad 3, that i believe it is not old, i already restored several times and is setted as a new ipad now, but it is still doind the same. Every time that I call Apple they ask me to restore it again, to be honest i don't want to buy a new ipad, is there anyone who can help me?

You can try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps from the tray before doing the reset.
May not help, but will not hurt anything.

7344 servo motion switching between open and closed loop operation

I have a custom end-of-line test system presently using a 4-axis 7344 servo controller to perform various functional tests on small, brushed DC motors. The system is programmed in C/C++ and uses flex motion functions to control the motor during testing. Motors are coupled to external encoder feedback and third party PWM drives running in closed-loop torque mode from an analog command signal. The system uses all four motion axis channels on the 7344 board to independently and asynchronously test up to four production motors at a time.
In closed-loop mode, the system runs without issue, satisfying the battery of testing protocols executed by this system. I now have a request to add additional test functionality to the system. This testing must be run in open loop mode. Specifically, I need to use my +/- 10v analog output command to my torque drive to send different DAC output levels to the connected motor.drive while monitoring response.
I do not believe the flex motion library or 7344 controller includes functions to easily switch between open and closed loop mode without sending a new drive configuration. I am also under the impression that I cannot reconfigure one (or more) servo controller axis channels without disabling the entire drive. As my system runs each axis channel in an asynchronous manner, any requirement to shutdown all drives each time I change modes is an unworkable solution.
I am open to all ideas that will allow asynchronous operation of my 4 motor testing stations. If the only solution is to add a second 7344 controller and mechanical relays to switch the drive and motor wiring between two separately configured servo channels, so be it. I just want to explore any available avenue before I place a price tag on this new system requirement.

Thank you for the quick response. The 7344 board does an excellent job running my manufacturing motor assemblies through a custom end-of-line tester in closed loop mode. A portion of the performance history and test result couples the motor through a mechanical load and external shaft. The shaft is in contact with a linear encoder that closes my servo loop.
My new manufacturing requirement is to also sample/document how the small DC motor behaves in open loop operation. Your solution is exactly what I need to perform the additional functional tests on the product I am manufacturing. I see no reason why this cannot work. I was originally concerned that I would need to reinitialize the 7344 board after changing axis configuration. Initialization is a global event and impacts all four channels on the 7344 board.
Using flex_config_axis() to change axis configuration on a single channel without disturbing other potentially running axis channels will solve my concern. It will be several weeks before I can return to the manufacturing facility where the 7344-based testing machine is located. I will update this thread once I verify a successful result.

MacBooks and closed lid mode

Has Apple changed the OS yet for the MacBook so one can keep it operating when the lid is closed?
For a machine that costs three times as much as your typical MS Windows laptop, this seems to be an expensive annoyance.
I've read older posts of same topic where people don't understand why one would want to do this.
There's times when I want to keep a program running, such as downloading Apple's frequent updates and walk away for awhile, but I don't want everyone else knowing my business.
Another related feature is locking the computer (disabling input/output), while it keeps running whatever applications have started. If MacBooks do so, I haven't found it yet. Everytime I put it to sleep or logout, it shutdowns all running applications, and I have to start all over when I log back in or wake it up.
Doesn't seem like Macs were intended for productivity.

Mac notebooks are designed to go to sleep when they are closed. This is a safety precaution to prevent users from putting a running MBP into a closed case or backpack where it will overheat and cook itself (and possibly cause a fire) in the absence of air movement.
You can defeat this precaution by installing third-party software such as InsomiaX that prevents the machine from sleeping, if you are confident you'll never make the above-described mistake.
When no one is logged into your computer, no one is allowed to use it, and no programs can run. If you want to run something on it, log in. That's what logging in is for.
When it's asleep, it is not operating. Sleep is an energy-saving mode. You can't save energy while the machine is running, so the machine can't sleep and run at the same time.

Leopard now hangs on shutdown and restart, but not if I unlog first

I've seen various people posting about this similar issue.
So basically my iBook was running fine with Tiger, and since I updated it to Leopard, it will hang when I want to restart or shut it down from the >Shutdown menu.
I tried many things, deinstalling stuff, and what have you. It seems however that running uninstaller programs or Maintenance which asks to restart to apply changes works.
So I tried first unlogging from the system, then from the login menu, hit the shutdown button, and it appears to work.
In the /var/log/system.log file there is nothing printed from the last entry just before I request the shutdown and when it powers back up.
Any idea how to definitely solve this problem? Sometimes I forget to manually log off, and holding down to hard stop the computer is something I used to laugh about when I used to be on windows...

Ok I see. Are the times displayed the american way, i.e: 12 hours per day? 24h per day? I can see some activity going on, but I can't tell if it was in the morning or in the afternoon :-P
I was about to come with some good news yesterday, as I thought to have found the problematic application, unfortunately after running OSX software update, Leopard got blocked once again upon shutdown. So I still can't tell whose fault it is.
Here is an excerpt of my log file, do I guess this happened just before I shutdown the computer as I closed Firefox and ran osx software update:
8/11/10 11 Aug 10:07:54 [0x0-0x1c01c].org.mozilla.firefox[474] Debugger() was called!
8/11/10 11 Aug 10:16:46 Software Update[582] arguments=(null)
Then here the computer got blocked and there is no more message printed in the log except for todays messages.
Well it's maybe firefox? I have a few extensions added to it, maybe it's not exiting cleanly? That's why my computer would get blocked only after a few hours of work, maybe firefox builds up at to a certain point where it's ready to lock the computer on shutdown?

Almost correct. The terminology is however nor correct.
Simplistically:
The SQL engine receives a SQL. It attempts a soft parse first. This means looking for an existing cursor in the Shared Pool with the same SQL. This existing cursor can be in use by other sessions. It does not matter - if that cursor is in used (opend by other sessions), or not. It may not be in use at all and simply sitting there in the cache. If such a cursor is found, it is used for that session's SQL - and that session gets a cursor handle (reference/pointer) to that existing cursor.
If the SQL engine does not find an existing cursor to use, it needs to create a brand new cursor in the Shared Pool. This is a hard parse. Again, the session receives a cursor handle for that new cursor created.
And that is it.
You now need to decide how to use that cursor handle. The cursor itself is a program. You have a handle to execute that cursor program. Via its bind interface you can input data to this cursor program. Then execute it and receive (fetch) output of that cursor program.
So the ideal is to re-use the cursor handle again and again.
Basic example: the following is not optimal as the same cursor is opened and closed, opened and closed, for each read from the file. A lot of soft parsing results.

Customer Statement with opening and closing balances

Dear Forum,
The users want to generate the Customer Statement with opening and closing balances like the traditional one. The statement now generated gives the list of all open items as on date, but the users want the statement with opening balances as on the date of the begining of the range specified and the closing balance at the end of the period for which the statement is generated. Is there a way to generate the same from the system.
