Shutdown inactive node cause reboot active node

Hi,
when I try to shutddown a inactive node of Oracle clusterware (two nodes) the active node reboot (s.o Oracle Linux 5.6 and ocfs2).
Fire it acquires vip of second node, then reboot and work correctly.
Anyone can help me?
Have a nice day

One of the nodes in cluster seemed to have been evicted previously due to eth2 NIC outage between nodes so as removing the failed node(could be what u r referring to "INACTIVE")
Please check I have highlighted in provided log information... Check If you are able to ping to the specified IP, and do password-less ssh to other node (101), and ask your system/network administrator to look into it...

  • Moving active node resources to the inactive node

    We have a 2 node , majority disk, Windows 2008R2 failover cluster.   The active node is currently showing all resources and services on node A.   Node B is the inactive node.    we are about to perform a DataCenter shutdown
    test.   Our application manager would like us to make Node B inactive during the DataCenter Shutdown test but he believes we can make Node B active if we do it this way:
    1.  power down Node B (inactive node)
    2. power down Node A (active node)
    3. power up Node A (active node)
    4. power up Node B (inactive node)
    By doing this way, he believes Node B will automatically become the Active node.
    I do not believe this is correct.   I believe it has to failover to get Node B active.  So, my proposal is:
    1.  power down Node A (active node)  This should cause a failover of resources and services to Node B
    2. Once all resources and services are on Node B, power Node B down.   Now, both nodes are powered down and Node B is holding the cluster resources and services and is the Active node.
    3.  Power up Node B (now the new Active node)
    4. Power up Node A ( the new inactive node)
    Which is correct?
    Thanks in advance

    Earlier question on ownership ... In a two-node cluster, ownership does not mean much.  In multi-node clusters, it is often used with the anti-affinity property to try to keep certain resources from running on the same node.  For example, if you
    have a four node host cluster running two VMs that are also in a cluster, you would most likely not want both of the SQL VMs to reside on the same node of the cluster.  Using anti-affinity and preferred owners, you can pretty much ensure the two VMs never
    end up on the same node.  In a two node cluster, ownership doesn't mean much.
    When SQL is installed in a cluster, SQL is installed on two or more nodes of the cluster.  SQL is actually running on each node on which you have installed it.  In your case, both nodes are running SQL.  By default, if something happens to
    the SQL instance running on one node, it will try to restart on the same node, i.e. it will not immediately failover.  There is a retry count and a time limit set up on the resource.  If the retry count is reached in the specified time limit, then
    the resource, in your case the SQL instance, will fail over to the other node of the cluster.
    In the Failover Cluster Manager console you will see a selection option for Cluster events.  That will show you all the event log entries that have occurred on both nodes of your cluster relating to cluster events.

  • Cluster Node Panicks when other node is rebooted

    Hello
    we have a two node cluster 3.2u1 cluster that uses a quorum device has a shared SAN LUN. Both nodes can see the LUN and during normal operation everything is fine.
    When one of the nodes is rebooted, or even crashes (for whatever reason), the other node goes into panick mode and also reboots causing loads of issues as you can imagine.
    Looking at the logs at the time of the crash, my 'guess' is that it appears that the cluster doesn't like the node that is rebooting losing access to it's quorum device and so issues a panick to all nodes of the cluster. Does that sound reasonable?
    Can anybody offer any advice on how to proceed with thise one, or has similar experience? (it might not even be the issue I descirbed above).
    Also, how do I read the /var/cluster/log/eventlog file in a reasonable format??
    thanks
    Simon.

  • Oracle RAC Nodes getting reboot in case of preferred controller failed

    When we are disconnecting both Fiber cable from preferred Controller A or plugging out Controller A card from Disk Array(IBM DS 4300), After 90 seconds both the servers are rebooting.
    In this time complete RAC network is going out of service for approx 5 minutes.After reboot both servers are coming with both instances without any manual intervention
    It’s a critical issue for us because we are loosing High Availability, Let us know how we can resolve this critical issue.
    Detail of Network:
    1. Software- Oracle 10g Release2
    2. OS- Redhat Linux 3 (Kernel Version-2.4.21-27.ELsmp)
    3. Shared Storage- IBM DS 4300.
    4. Multipathing Driver - RDAC (rdac-LINUX-09.00 A5.13)
    4. Nodes- IBM 346
    5. Databse on ASM
    6. ASM,OCR & Voting Disk Preferred controller is A.
    7. Hangcheck timer value is 210 seconds.
    8. Both Server available with 2 HBA port . I HBA port is connected with Controller A and Seconfd HBA port is connected with Controller B of SAN Disk Array.
    As per my understanding,
    Voting disk resides in Disk Array and Controller A is preferred owner of Voting Disk LUN.. When i am disconnecting both fiber cable from preferred controller A , then Both Nodes Clusterware software trying to contact with Voting Disk, When they are unable to contact with Voting disk in specfic time period, they are going for reboot.
    I tested Controller failure testing with Oracle RAC software as well without Oracle. Without Oracle its working fine and reason behind, in that time Disk Array is waiting for approx 300 seconds for changing preferred controlller from A to B.
    But With Oracle, Clusterware Software reboot both nodes before Controller can shift from A to B.
    So if i conclude,the tech who has good understanding of Oracle Clusterware on Linux OS & IBM RDAC multipath driver can help me.
    when we install Oracle RAC on Linux, it is required to configure hangcheck timer.
    Oracle recomends 180 second.
    It means if one of node is hanging, then second node will wait for 180 seconds, if within 180 seconds ,it is not able to resolve this situation then it will reboot hung node.
    I think Hangcheck timer configuration reuired only with Linux OS.
    Configuration File
    cat >> /etc/rc.d/rc.local << EOF
    modprobe hangcheck-timer hangcheck_tick=15 hangcheck_margin=60

    Sorry
    Hangcheck timer is
    Configuration File
    cat >> /etc/rc.d/rc.local << EOF
    modprobe hangcheck-timer hangcheck_tick=30 hangcheck_margin=180

    This clearly shows CSSD of node kkvs1a has given node eviction message to kkvs1b node.
    I got following messages on the instance which got rebooted:
    ASM alert log:

    A network fluctuation shouldn't give reboot like this. Then why oracle design like this way? Is this a bug? My oracle version is: 10.2.0.5.0
    Could you tell me the other possible situations when 1 RC instance reboots other RAC instacne.

    What you are describing is the expected behaviour: if your interconnect fails, you will have a node eviction. Releases < 11.2.0.2 evict a node by reboot, which can fix the problem: the NIC may come up correctly when the machine re-starts. Releases >= 11.2.0.2 can often evict without a re-boot. But either way, if your interconnect goes down, a node must be evicted to prevent uncoordinated disc writes.
    If you are interested, you can find some discussion and demos of this in a series of webcasts I've recorded,
    Free Oracle Database Tutorials for Administration and Developers
    If you really don't like this behaviour and the problems are transient, you can try 'raising the CSS MISSCOUNT parameter.

  • A theory about trees (ApEx 4.0) regarding save activated node

    Hallo all!
    Can someone please confirm (or not) my theory about trees regarding save activated node in ApEx 4.0(.1):
    With my first tree I tried to set a varchar2-value for the last selected node ... didn't work. After many tries I was succesful with changing this to a numeric value...
    ...Is this a bug or a feature? ;-)
    Btw.
    Another supposing regarding the source-code of trees is that this can't be longer than 4000 bytes. Is this right?
    And if so ... can I put a Funktion in there that returns the statement (like in classic reports, but with static row-structure)?
    Hope this time someone out there is attends my thread.
    With kind regards...

    Hi,
    Pre-Apex4 you could make use of the A1 and A2 columns in the tree SQL along with the tree template to conditional set the color of the node text. Does anyone know how to achieve this in Apex4? I've tried using the tree SQL shown below but this displays the HTML (SPAN tags) as text.
    select case when connect_by_isleaf = 1 then 0
                when level = 1             then 1
                else                           -1
           end as status,
           level,
           '<span style="color:red;">'||"ENAME"||'</span>' as title,
           null as icon,
           "EMPNO" as value,
           null as tooltip,
           null as link
    from "#OWNER#"."EMP"
    start with "MGR" is null
    connect by prior "EMPNO" = "MGR"
    order siblings by "ENAME"Any assistance would be appreciated.
    Cheers.

  • Do I use same oracle account on 2 cluster nodes cause problem?

    Do I use same oracle account on 2 cluster nodes cause problem?
    If I use same oracle account on 2 cluster nodes running 2 database, when failover happens, 2 database will be running on one node, does 2 oracle account make SHM ... memory conflict?
    or do I have to use oracle01 account on node1, oracle02 account on node2? Can not use same name account?
    Thanks.

    I'm not 100% certain I understood the question, so I'll rephrase them and answer them.
    Q. If I have the same Oracle account on each cluster node, e.g. uid=100 (oracle) gid=100 (oinstall), groups dba=200, can I run two databases, one on each cluster node without problems?
    A. Yes. Having multiple DBs on one node is not a problem and doesn't cause shared memory problems. Obviously each database needs a different database name and thus different SID.
    Q. Can I have two different Oracle accounts on each cluster node e.g. uid=100 (oraclea) gid=100 (oinstall), groups dba=200 and e.g. uid=300 (oracleb) gid=100 (oinstall), groups dba=200, and run two databases, one for each Oracle user?
    A. Yes. The different Oracle user names would need to be associated with different Oracle installations, i.e. Oracle HOMEs. So you might have /oracle/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1 (oraclea) and /oracle/oracle/product/11.0.1.0/db_1 (oracleb). The ORACLE_HOME is then used to determine the Oracle user name by checking the user of the Oracle binary in the ${ORACLE_HOME}/bin directory.

    XMLSpy validates this, so I'm assuming this
    is a valid aproach.
    So, the problem is not with the 'source' attribute, as you decided based on my incomplete post...
    To make things work I'm cutting some of <SomeOtherNodeName> nodes...
    The problem is in integral size of the whole <appinfo> node with all subnodes...
    So, the initial questions remains...
    Thank you for your replay,
    Boris

  • How to map the node id to the node name in database view just like "V$GES_RESOURCE"

    i have a rac with 3 nodes,and the node id is from 1 to 3,i can check it with command olsnodes.

  • Can i create a property node of a property node?

    hello - i made a small vi that im attaching to visiualize what i am wanting to do. i have two modes in my vi - one with automation on and the other off... in manual control mode.
    in automation mode...i am reading a sensor (hall effect) and when the boolean is true, then the property node of a stop motor event is automatically executed.
    if i want to be in manual mode, i don't want that property node to execute whenever the boolean reads true. i only want to be able to press the stop button manually.
    so i tried creating a property node of a property node, and chose the "disabled" property wiring a 1 constant into it which should be "disabled".
    anyway - i don't know if this is even possible cause i am getting an error. can i make this work or how can i turn automation off and therefore turning the property node to the stop motor off too?
    thanks!

    Don't overcomplicate things!
    You don't need a property node of a property node, that would make little sense. Simply place the property node inside a case structure so it only executes under certain conditions.

  • Select node based on another node

    Hello - If I have XML code such as:
    <ROWSET>
    −<ROW>
    <AREA>AAA</AREA>
    <ACTIVITY>ACTIVE</ACTIVITY>
    <TOTAL>4</TOTAL>
    </ROW>
    −<ROW>
    <AREA>AAA</AREA>
    <ACTIVITY>NOTACTIVE</ACTIVITY>
    <TOTAL>1</TOTAL>
    </ROW>
    −<ROW>
    <AREA>AAA</AREA>
    <ACTIVITY>INOP</ACTIVITY>
    <TOTAL>2</TOTAL>
    </ROW>
    −<ROW>
    <AREA>BBB</AREA>
    <ACTIVITY>NOTACTIVE</ACTIVITY>
    <TOTAL>20</TOTAL>
    </ROW>
    −<ROW>
    <AREA>BBB</AREA>
    <ACTIVITY>OFFLINE</ACTIVITY>
    <TOTAL>2</TOTAL>
    </ROW>
    −<ROW>
    <AREA>BBB</AREA>
    <ACTIVITY>INOP</ACT_LEVEL>
    <TOTAL>32</TOTAL>
    </ROW>
    −<ROW>
    <AREA>CCC</AREA>
    <ACTIVITY>ACTIVE</ACTIVITY>
    <TOTAL>2</TOTAL>
    </ROW>
    −<ROW>
    <AREA>CCC</AREA>
    <ACTIVITY>INOP</ACTIVITY>
    <TOTAL>2</TOTAL>
    </ROW>
    </ROWSET>
    How can I retrieve the TOTAL data based on the value of ACTIVITY?
    Can I use something like:
    <RowData>
    <xsl:for-each-group select=".//ROW" group-by="AREA" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform">
    <Cell>
    <xsl:if test="count(current-group()/ACTIVITY[.='INOP'])">
    <xsl:value-of select="???????????????)" />
    </xsl:if>
    </Cell>
    </xsl:for-each-group>
    </RowData>

    I knew this would be ridiculously easy for a smart person out there. The final answer turned out to be:
    <RowData>
    <xsl:for-each-group select=".//ROW" group-by="AREA"xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform">
    <Cell>
    <xsl:if test="current-group()/ACTIVITY[.='OFFLINE']">
    <xsl:value-of select="current-group()[./ACTIVITY='OFFLINE']/TOTAL" />
    </xsl:if>
    </Cell>
    </xsl:for-each-group>
    </RowData>
    I wasn't looking to sum the TOTAL values (I didn't explain myself well), I was looking to grab the individual value from the TOTAL node (I think I'm saying that right) based on what the value was in the ACTIVITY node - in this case, OFFLINE.
    I did try the "current-group()/TOTAL" but that just gave me the first TOTAL value, which in my example, would have been 20 from NOTACTIVE node.

  • WD ABAP: Recursion Nodes that Repeat Tree Nodes with Embedded Tables ???

    At Rich H's suggestion, I'm posting this here as well as in the blogs.
    Suppose you've got a tree context with a node that has a table embedded under it. (For example, the TREE_WITH_TABLE view of WDR_TEST_EVNT has this kind of context substructure.) Call this node "NODE_WITH_TABLE."
    You now define a recursion node underneath "NODE_WITH_TABLE" and specify "NODE_WITH_TABLE" as the repeated node for this recursion node. Call this recurion node "RECURSION_NODE".
    Lo and behold - the table fills properly when you're on any instance of "NODE_WITH_TABLE", but not when you're on an instance of "RECURSION_NODE".
    I'm hoping that:
    a) I'm doing something wrong;
    OR
    b) There's an easy work-around/alternative I'm not seeing
    OR
    c) SAP will give recursion nodes enough memory to carry any table(s) embedded in the nodes they're repeating.
    'Cause I sure don't want to have to define "n" levels of tree-nodes that have different copies of the same table(s) embedded in them.

    Maybe you might want to back out your weblog as it is not really a place to ask these types of questions.  Think of it this way,  if you are allowed to do this type of weblog,  what is stopping any other weblogger.  Hence the weblogs would just be another forum, which I don't think anyone wants.

  • Few large nodes or many small nodes

    Hi guys,
    In general, what option is better to implement a RAC system; few large nodes or many small nodes?
    Say we have a system with 4 nodes of 4 CPU and a system with 8 nodes of 2 CPU. Will there be a performance difference?
    I understand there won't be a clear cut answer for this. But I'd like to learn from your experiences.
    Regards,

    Hi,
    The worst case in terms of block transfer is 3-way, doesn't matter if you have 100 nodes a single block will be accessed at max in 3 hops. But there are other factors to consider
    example if you're using FC for SAN connectivity I'd assume trying to connect 4 servers could cost more than 2 servers.
    On the load let's say your load is 80 (whatever units) and equally distributed among 4 servers each servers will have 20 (units). If one goes down or shutdown to do a rolling patch then load of that will be distributed among other 3 so these will have 20 + 20/3 = 26.666. Imagine the same scenario if there was only two servers then each will have 40 and if one goes down one server has to carry the entire load. So you have to do some capacity planning interms of cpu to decide if 4 nodes better or 2 nodes better.
