Shuts down all others
I have 2 pc's desktops( cabled) and 2 laptops(wireless). The 2 desktops and one laptop are on Windows XP and they work perfectly with my wrt110 wireless router, but when I turn on the other laptop with Vista, it bumps all the other computers offline until the Vista laptop finally contects to the internet, then the rest of the computers can connect too. What is causing this annoying problem and how can I fix it ?
I would suggest you to upgrade/reflash the firmware of the router.Reset the router for 45 seconds and reconfigure it from the scratch.Download the firmware from www.linksys.com/downloads,enter the model no in the search box and choose the correct version number...download the firmware and save it on the desktop.Login into the linksys setup page and click on Administration tab to upgrade the firmware.

I'm running a MacBook with Leopard.
I have the latest version of Firefox.
I can move the ff window around my screen and when i click on it my menu bar doesn't recognize that i'm in the ff window.i'm also having major CPU problems w/ FF 29.0.1. when i restart the app it calms down again but after loading tabs it steadily climbs up to 100% after not too long. i have checked out the 2 CPU links/articles above and do all the basic troubleshooting and tips, but with all the FF tools & add-ons isn't there some sort of CPU monitor that has the ability to display which extensions/scripts are hogging the CPU? Activity Monitor on Mac just shows the total used by the app. it's impossible in my case to efficiently disable dozens of add-ons & scripts, restart, and test each one by one b/c it can take several hrs before the CPU starts to spike high again. i have no time for this.

Trouble with Safari - it keeps shutting down - all because I tried to get rid of MacKeeper
trouble with Safari - it keeps shutting down - all because I tried to get rid of MacKeeper ad - after I install what I thought was an update since I already had MacKeeper, it would not allow me to continue without buying the new one. Make a long story short I switch to Firefox and deleted as much as I could of Safari (files, preferences etc) Now I'm at OS Yosemite X 10.10.2 and would like to get Safari up and running again - I've searched for Adware in applications etc but could not find it. Found what to do from the community, but before I go that route...Do I have to know where or if I actually have this spyware? And if I were to reinstall Maveric - would my files and such be undisturbed? so that only Safari would be replaced? I"M LOST .... (as if you couldn't tell)
I've been working with Mac for 30 years or more and although I'm hands on taught the only thing I lack is the newer "buzz words" so if you can help me out - please make it simple ?? thanksThere is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
You may have installed one or more of the common types of ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it. It's been reported that some variants of the "VSearch" malware block access to the page. If that happens, start in safe mode by holding down the shift key at the startup chime, then try again.
Back up all data before making any changes.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, ask for further instructions.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. It may have come from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
Malware is also found on websites that traffic in pirated content such as video. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
if it's not already checked. -
When shutting down all devices at days end is it advisable to pull the power plug daily on the Time Capsule.
It is up to you to decide.
My opinion would be that if Apple wanted you to power down the Time Capsule on a regular basis, they would have included an "Off" switch, or a means to power off the Time Capsule from your computer. -
The wheel that shows your downloading something on my iPhone 5 will not stop spinning. What can I do to stop it? I have shut down all apps, restarted my phone as well I have pushed the power button & home button at the same time. Still no luck.
If restart and reset don't solve this problem then something must be being started when your iPhone starts up that cannot complete.
You might consider restoring your iPhone to Factory via iTunes. -
Safari still shuts down all internet...
Safari still shuts down all internet access when browsing abcnews.com and cbsnews.com at random times. Mail stops connecting, safari just hangs... Good thing that turning off Airport then back on again trick works everytime. So if anyone is getting this scenario, just quit all internet related apps and quit Airport and turn it back on, it should work again.

IPhone4 shuts down all by itself
My iPhone 4 shuts down all by itself , even though battery is more than 50% ? How to get this fix this ? I have tried resetting this phone, but still did not work.
Hey Anantharam!
I have an article here for you that can walk you through some troubleshooting steps for this issue:
iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802
Specifically, this section will be the most relevant for your question:
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 15 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
Thanks for coming to the Apple Support Communities!

My ipod touch 4 (32gb) shuts down all the time
My ipod touch4 (32gb) shuts down all the time, even though the battery is not dead. Seems ever since update in July 2011 I have been having issues with the battery. Please help!
Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: How to back up
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

When it has disappeared I can open Firefox again using the menu or the opening icon on the toolbar, but then it only shows up blank, so without the tabs that were opened before. Closing down all other icons on the toolbar is the only way to make the Firefox icon reappear and for me to open Firefox again with all my tabs.
Please excuse my English, the jargon is difficult. Thanks for your reply, cor-el.
The odd thing is, this problem hasn't occurred again since I posted it. What kind of magic is that? :-))
It really is odd, since I had it at least twice a week for several months.
So far, so good, then.
I'll wait a while more, and will then close it as being solved. I guess that's the procedure.
We'll put it down to temporary bugs or pc mysteries.
Though I like the magic option more... -

my phone looks like offline all the time.its all about me to notice that its offline.then i have to push the main button and the power button together to open it.then the apple sign comes on the screen and the phone turns online.but i cannot receive the information of who called me at the time that my iphone 4s turned offline by itself.i cannot receive messages at all.what can i do now ? i sent the phone to the service and they just told me that they installed the current version.but i guess nothing happened.its doing the same thing again.i cannot use my iphone.
From Turkiye.I've tried all those. But nothing works. The phone seems to be shut down. But it is not. When i get it out of my pocket, for example to call someone, i touch to main button but nothing happens.I solve it by pushing the power button and the main button together just for a couple of seconds, as its said so in the forums.
also, people told me that they were calling me, my phone was ringing but i didnt answer?...i checked it for millions of times, it seems to be shut down, but its normally not.then i push the buttons together and the apple sign comes on the screen.it searches for the network.and it works.
but i do not see any calls, texts anything.but for the others, they say my phone seems to be workin.
I thought it was 'cause of the 3G is switched on but when I turn 3G off, it does the same thing.it seems to be offline all the time. -
I downloaded ios7 on my iphone 5 yesterday. All day it worked fine, then last evening it started blinking from the white screen with the black apple to my home screen. Each screen only stays up for 3-5 seconds then switches back. I have tried shutting down and it is still happening! Does anyone know how to fix this issue without having to go into the store?
Your power adapter is OK. If the only place it will not work is in your home, your house wiring and / or the appliances connected to it are likely to be the reason your Mac will not charge.
From Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters:
Identify line noise issues.
Unplug the power adapter from the wall, let it sit for 60 seconds, then plug the adapter back in.
If the adapter works after this 60-second "rest", you most likely have a line noise issue with your power source. You should reset the adapter periodically by repeating this moment of rest. This issue occurs when the AC adapter's "over voltage protection" feature senses ground noise and then turns off the adapter.
Some possible sources of line noise include lights with ballasts, refrigerators, or mini-refrigerators that are on the same electrical circuit as your computer. This behavior may not occur if you plug the power adapter into an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) or plug it into a different circuit.
Unless the adapter continues to exhibit this behavior on a known good outlet, it does not need to be replaced.
Household wiring problems are very common. They can also be very dangerous. Fortunately most problems can be easily fixed by a qualified electrician. -
Imac 24" corrupts itunes, shuts down all of Adobe, crashes Chrome
Hi at all,
just jump to the Problem:
After a Harddrive crash my imac 24" ((hard drive has been renewed since then twice) I Tried to restore everything by my time-machine backup (extern harddrive) and the migrations assistant while erasing the harddrive with zeros) shuts down my Adobe programms while starting them and they only function after up to 5 attempts.
iTunes gives me everytime a failure message for that the Library is damaged. iTunes opens then, yet there are hardly any songs in it and all of my playlists are gone. I can use an old library from my backup and it works for one or two runs, yet then when i restart iTunes everything is gone again. (so I can't sync my ipod and phone)
Even my Airport isn't working properly. I can't properly access my network (where my macbook is), so i have to reuse a wire for the internet.
And the 'least' bothering Problem is that my sites in Chrome are crashing or sometimes just a plug in at the site so i get a black square on the site which says that a plugin just crashed.
I even erased the Harddive yet again and bought Snow Leopard with the hope that it could help, yet even then iTunes gets a damaged library.
Thanks for all good thoughts.
Florian from BerlinSounds like there may be a problem with the electronics which support the hard drive or other hardware issue(s).
My guess is that a hardware repair is going to be the next step. I'm hoping for your sake that the issue is with the RAM, since that is relatively cheap to replace. To check this out, I suggest "memtest" - here is the link:-
http://www.memtestosx.org/joomla/index.php
There may be ways to get this free, but I paid the princely sum of USD$1.39 for handling.
If you go this route, read up on how to run memtest in "single user mode". To quote the user guide -
"Memtest is best run in OS X's single-user mode. In this mode, nearly all of the installed ram can be tested whereas under the full OS, a considerable portion of memory is tied up by OS X processes and the Quartz window manager. This is especially true in MacOS releases later than 10.3.5. Running memtest in single-user mode maximizes the effectiveness of the memory test."
Good luck! -
Why is Safari shutting down my other internet programs like Firefox and Internet Explorer?
I just got an ipod not too long ago and when I plugged it into my computer, it installed not only itunes but safari as well. Everything was fine until about two weeks ago. The program Internet Explorer stopped working one morning. I didn't think Safari had anything to do with it. A few days later, Firefox shut down. Both said they could not connect to the internet. I was looking at my bookmarks in Safari yesterday, and I realized that Safari had moved over all bookmarks from Internet Explorer. How can I keep Safari from interfering with Internet Explorer and Firefox? And how can I bring Internet Explorer and Firefox back to life?
