Shuts down when put into sleep mode

Any idea why this is happening?
When my ipod touch locks itself or if I put it into sleep mode, it will not wake itself up with the press of a button - instead, it restarts (black screen with apple logo in centre).
It is only 12 hours old and was perfectly fine when running on the factory 1.xx software, it has only started happening since the 2.1 software was installed.
Since, I have Restored it through iTunes which performs another clean install of 2.1 and it is the same still
Weirdly, while it is connected to my PC through the USB cable, it behaves perfectly (waking up from sleep instantly with the press of the home button), but as soon as I disconnect it from the PC, it starts playing up again.
If I set the settings to never lock, it performs brilliantly which is annoying as I now have a taste of what this device can do, but I just cant put it into sleep mode.
Any ideas on what I need to do? Or is it a case of returning it to Apple?
Thanks for any response

Is the battery FULLY charged? If not, charge it and then see how it reacts...make sure Wi-Fi is off while you do this--I've noticed weird things when it's docked and plugged into my TV (with the new dock) and wi-fi is on--I get battery messages randomly and it eventually shuts down (even though it's plugged into a dock with power, that came from Apple and is the "latest and greatest"...)

  • MacBook Pro shuts down when put into sleep mode

Every time I put my Mac into sleep mode (plugged in or not, charged or not), it shuts itself down, and I have to restart it. I just got it (brand new) in August, so I know the battery shouldn't be bad.
It's been doing this for about a week... I just changed to Snow Leopard yesterday, and downloaded the software updates and everything, but it still shuts down.
Anyone know what I can do (short of sending it to Apple) to fix this?

Okay, well I already used smartsleep.
It fixed the problem I was having, but now my macbook started having the same issues again this weekend. It's happened twice tonight in the span of 3 hours.
Do I need to uninstall SmartSleep then?
And here is the report I get when the macbook reboots:

  • Dual boot computer restarts by itself shortly after it has been shut down or put into sleep mode

    Hello,
I have Toshiba Equium L40-14I (old) and dual boot Vista and Linux.
A few days ago I noticed that while in a Linux operating system and when I put it to sleep (suspend) it would do so, but then immediately come alive again. The same thing happens with the shut down option. In Windows Vista it is the same. It does shut down, but in a few seconds restarts again and shows the normal options of choosing which operating system I want to boot. The computer only stays shut if I pull the power cord (it has no functioning battery) or it I forcefully shut it by pressing the power button for a few seconds.
    So far I tried this:
    - BIOS: 1. Changed to default factory settings. 2. Disabled wake-up on LAN and disabled wake up on keyboard.
    - Device Manager, Network adapters, NIC, Properties, Power management: unticked the option that allows the adapter to wake the computer
    - Device Manager: all drivers seem to be ok
    - Virus scan: although this is probably not the issue as it happens independently of which operating system I am using. I have not installed any strange programs.
    - I started from the Safe mode and then shut down. Same thing happened: it restarted automatically after a few seconds.
    - Disabled automatic restart on system failure. It didn't help.
English is not my first language, sorry for the perhaps unclear way of describing this issue. I would appreciate any help. Thank you.

You have done just about everything I can think of.  You didn't mention doing a System Restore.  If you haven't done one or even if you have, do a System Restore back to at least sometime before this started happening. If the first one doesn't work, try a different restore point and do it again. If that doesn't work, you need to consider a full HDD recovery to out-of-box condition which procedure is fully covered in your User's Guide.  I'm sorry I don't have a link for it but yours is not a U.S. machine and this site is for U.S. machines. It appears to be a U.K. model with support covered by THIS site.
BTW, I wish the native Americans who post on here did  as well as you have so you have to make no excuses for your English.

  • IMac shuts down when put in Sleep mode

Computer works fine but when I put it in "sleep" mode in shuts down and cannot be restarted without unplugging and starting over. Once started it works fine again until the next "sleep".
Anything I can try before backing everything up and heading for the Apple store ?

Disconnect all devices except for the keyboard & mouse if you have not done so.
    Try this:
Change the energy saving options, to put the display to sleep and the computer to sleep at the same time.
Enable (check mark) put the hard disk to sleep when possible.
    Lock the padlock.
    Optional: Repair permissions &/or restart.
    ==============
Check your Energy Saver settings to make sure they are correct.
If your computer came w/a remote, test the remote sleep option to determine if your issue is repeated.

  • HP Envy shutting down after going into sleep mode

Hi.  I'm not sure where to post this so I'll try it here.
My laptop shut downs automatically when it goes into sleep mode.  Not right away when going into sleep mode.  Maybe like an hour later after going into sleep mode.
I'm not sure it's overheating because it never shuts down while I'm actually using the laptop.
Do you guy have any idea how to fix this?
Product name and number:  HP ENVY TouchSmart Sleekbook 4-1115dx
    Operating System:   Window 8
    Error Message:  None
Any changes to your system before problem occurred:  No

    Hey Tecmo_SB_Guy,
I would suggest you take a look at advanced power settings. It can seem like the notebook is turning off when it is actually just hibernating. You can set it to not hibernate.
    1. Windows key + Q to open the Search Bar
    2. Type "power"
    3. Click Settings under the Search Bar
    4. Select Power Options from the results on the left.
    5. In Power Options, Click Change when the computer sleeps, on the left.
    6. Set the Put the computer to sleep setting so that it fits your usage best.
    7. Click Change advanced power settings, at the bottom.
    8. Expand Sleep and expand Hibernate after. If you want you can change the hibernation setting to Never by typing "Never" into the minutes field. See attached picture. You can do this for battery and/or plugged in.
    9. Click Apply to save changes.
If you don't already shut it down periodically, I would suggest shutting it down at least 2-3 times a week if you use it daily. Leaving the computer running continuously can shorten its lifespan. Hard drive failures and motherboard issues are seen much more often on machines that are left running constantly. Computers get bogged down and run slowly when the memory is full. Memory only clears out and resets itself when the computer is shut down. Here is a link explaining more about memory accumulation and hardware aging.
I hope these suggestions help! Please let me know if you have any questions

  • Equium A110-276 not able to shut down or put into hibernate mode

With the ac mains adaptor connected to laptop, I am unable to shutdown or put into hibernate mode. When shutting down or going into hibernate, the computer appears to do everything correctly until the power is shut off. When power is shut down there is a two second delay after which the computer re-boots again. This problem does not occur with the ac mains adaptor removed from computer (battery only).
Problem started after my husband inadvertantly connected mains adaptor whilst computer was booting up. Have looked at BIOS settings and all ok; have looked at power settings in Control Panel and all looks ok.
    Can anyone please help???

    Hi
As far as I know the Toshiba Power saver controls the going into standby and the hibernation mode.
You should firstly remove your power saver and then after clean removing and after new rebooting you should install the version from the Toshiba driver page.
If this will not solve the problem you should try to update the BIOS. But be careful. Be sure that you use the right BIOS and the right BIOS update procedure!

  • 10.5.7 Shut down when put to sleep

I updated my macbook pro sr to 10.5.7 today and noticed that when i close the lid, it shuts down after about 5 minutes. My battery is about brand new with under 60 cycles on it. I am wondering if anyone else can verify if this problem is only mine or something others are dealing with. I am sure that this started today after the update, as I had the computer asleep all day yesterday while at school. BTW, the mac is unplugged when it shuts downs. Thanks for any feedback.

  • X230 shuts down when return from sleep mode

    Hi,
a week ago I am facing with a problem - I am entering the laptop in sleep mode, just closing the screen, and when I open the screen (expecting that the laptop should wake up) it starts usual OS boot from scratch, not hibernate.
    How to troubleshoot?
    win7 x64
As I remember about 2 weeks ago I installed new VMWare player, latest power manager drivers.

    Hi Barabas,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I’m sorry to hear that your Lenovo ThinkPad X230 is restarting while you try to wake it up from sleep.
Go to control panel -> Power options -> Click on choose what closing the lid does (on the left side of the window) -> Select sleep -> OK.
If the above settings are as recommended, update your BIOS and Intel Management Engine firmware to the latest versions from Lenovo Support page. Enter your MTM number in the “Quick Path” and download the drivers.
Try reseating your memory. Try running the system with only one memory if you have multiple RAM in your system.
    Hope this helps!
    Best regards,
    Mithun.

  • Macbook pro shuts down when put on sleep (OS 10.8.6)

I have a Macbook pro (OS 10.8.6), when I put it to sleep by closing the lid or explicitly choosing sleep option,it goes to sleep, but when I open the lid, the machine shutsdown. I have to press the power button for around 30 seconds to start the machine. In the logs I could find--Shutdown due to error code --79 and sleep failure shutdown.

Maybe some things to try check/try

  • Power Mac g4 freezes up when put in sleep mode

Hello. So the machine has had a lot of changes but the problem just started a couple days ago, before that I was going into sleep mode just fine with no problems. The problem is when the computer goes to sleep it freezes, the screen goes black but the fan and hard drive are still going and the light never turns to the flashing amber. What's more I'm unable to wake it up or use the keyboard restart command. The only way to restart or shutdown are the buttons on the tower. So I've turned power saver off and now have just resorted to shutting down when it's not in use but that's pretty bad in the long run.

Did you install a USB 2.0 PCI card and do you leave bus-powered devices connected to it, when the computer goes into sleep mode? There have been many reported sleep issues associated with USB 2.0 cards in the G4s. What name is printed on the main controller chip (sometimes it's hidden by the card manufacturer's label)? The consensus of opinion is that USB 2.0 cards with an NEC chip tend to have fewer problems. Additionally, it's a good practice to disconnect the bus-powered devices from the card, prior to letting the computer go into sleep mode.

When I close my 17in Mac book pro it will enter sleep mode but when trying to wake it up I can hear the fans turn on, but the screen will stay black and I have to manually hold the power button and I get an error message when I turn it back on saying that programs didn't close out properly. I recently had to take my computer in to get it repaired and it has been acting this way ever since I got it back. Which was early may.

Oh nm they changed the article to say they fixed the bug with the newest release from yesterday. Go download the latest version that came out yesterday and see if it helps you your PC. You probaly do have a dual processor. The new iTunes fixes that importing CD bug.

  • G4 shuts down when trying to sleep or restart

    Hello,
I've looked around on the forums but can't find the same problem as mine. When I try putting my G4 to sleep, it powers off right away. Same thing when trying to restart, it just shuts down. If it hasn't been on too long, I can press the power button and it will start. If it has been on a while, I have to wait 15 minutes or so until the power button will work. I tried replacing the PRAM battery and resetting the PRAM.
I'm running 10.4.11. Gigabit ethernet G4 running a single Sonnet 1.8Ghz, with 1.5GB RAM. Boot ROM 4.2.8f1. I have two hard drives, one 120GB and one 160GB. Haven't changed any hardware recently.
Is my power supply going bad? I replaced it about 3 1/2 years ago.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
