Shutter count on Canon G1X

I just bought a Canon G1x and wish I knew how to find shutter actuations...or do I need some kind of Canon software?  I was able to access shutter count on my G9 with a formatted SD card, but it doesnt work on this G1X. Anybody know how to find count on G1X?

How did you do it with the G9? As far as I've known the only way to be sure of the count was on early 1 series bodies using one of the programs designed to get it. Other than that the only way was to set the camere to "continous" when choosing the file numbering system. If you don't set it to that it restarts from 0001 each time you download & kills the idea of getting a count later in life. I have read about programs that can figure it out on newer bodies but so far they are all less than reliable.

How can I get the shutter count for my Canon 7D Mark II using Windows XP? I've been looking lots of places and doing some file uploads, but I can't seem to find anything. I'm wary of downloading software I know nothing about. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Nevermind, just, sort of answered my own question. Doesn't work on XP, but using a Win 7 'puter I was able to use Shutter Count, which now works w/ the 7D Mark II.

Every where I searched I got incorrect advice from everyone. Seems people like to hear themselves talk when they cannot answer factually and accurately. If you want the shutter count on a canon eos 1ds mark 3, go to this site. I got an accurate count there.  http://shuttercounter.com/
Not to be argumentative (and I wouldn't dream of offering you unsolicited advice), but given the uncertainty that seems to dog this issue, how exactly do you know that the count you got from that site is accurate?

  • Shutter count

I just bought a used 1DS MKII.  The camera had a new shutter installed by Canon last year and the first owner then stored it. I was curious about shutter count so went to myshuttercount.com and after uploading a JPEG from the camera, was told the camera had 28,388 activations.
My question:  Canon resets the count after a new shutter is installed.  Would that reset effect the information that myshuttercount gathers from a JPEG?

They do reset it. 28k is not a lot. I think the first owner just says he/she "store" but in reality he/she means "i don't use it as much".

  • Shutter Count for 60D

I've searched the web and googled to find a program that can tell me my shutter count on my Canon 60D.  I only found 2 solutions, Eoscount, and Magic Lantern.   I tried Eoscount and it would'nt work, I think because my Pc is 64 bit.  I'm kind of leery to use Magic Lantern while my Camera is still under warranty.   Does anyone know a program to find shutter count, or anyother way I can find my shutter count????.

  • 5D Shutter Count in Bridge?

I'm told I can view my 5D shutter count in Bridge. Is this so, and if it's  not in the Metadata, then where can it be located? TIA.

Had a discussion with someone over a year ago on this subject.  He wanted to add camera info that was not in Bridge.  Believe there is a way to do that, but can not remember final outcome.
Might be more productive if you start another thread with title something like - can I add camera exif data bridge does not read?  Before you do this, do some searches here and on the web.
There was one Bridge hit that showed how to add cost of picture, but that was to IPTC.  Guy wrote a paper on it and would e-mail it if interested.
Many hits on google also that you might want to sort though.  Did not quickly see exactly what you were looking for.

  • Shutter count in Preview

Is the Image Count that's in Preview in Hex or Decimal?  If you load a Nikon image either NEF or JPEG the Command I the Tabs for EXIF & Nikon show an image count.
I understood this was a Hex number but a new camera shows my image count matching the actual images I have taken.
Its a useful shutter count tool.
    Anyone know the definitive answer?

Preview will hilight and display a count of the number of pages the target search string is found on.
If you want to literally count every word in document, there are many utils available as well as Pages and of course the terminal. I use either Pages or TextWrangler. To count words in a PDF I clipboard from Preview and dump into Pages and count there via 'Inspector'.

  • Shutter count question

Does anyone in the forum know how I can determine the shutter count I have logged on my T3i? The camera is still going strong without any problems at all (except for a few dead pixels that appear as tiny red spots in some images). I am mostly just curious about this. Is there any indication how many shutter releases the average T3i can be expected to fire? My T3i is my first dslr and it has served that role fabulously.

As Tim mentioned, there's Shuttercount.  But many other programs (that many camera owners already have) can give you the count as well.  If all you want is the count then Shuttercount is probably the easiest, but it's good to have options:
Magic Lantern: Third party add-on for your camera.  Free, but you install a firmware add-on onto your camera.  Best to know what you're doing before installing.  Again, if you just want the count there are better options.
DSLR Controller: An app for controlling your camera from a smart phone or tablet.  Fantastic app, but it costs $10.  I wouldn't spend it for just count, but the app itself is awesome if you want to control your camera remotely.
FoCal: A program for fine tuning your cameras autofocus.  Unfortunately doesn't work with your camera, but most people who have fine-tunable cameras already own this so I thought I'd mention it.
APT: An astrophotography tool.  There's a free trial for download that should tell you shutter count.  Can't say I've tried it.

  • Where to find Shutter Count for Nikon Camera?

Is this part of the EXIF data that Aperture displays?

I just tried Cena's method of Exporting the file to the desktop. When I click on it and press Command - I, the shutter count doesn't show up.
    Please read my instructions ;-)
In Aperture: show in finder (if you don't have referenced files export the file to desktop(export as original file!), open with preview app.
Then bring up the info dialog (press Command-i) klick on the i-icon/tab, this will bring up a nikon-tab. Here you can find the shuttercount.
You must first open the image with preview.app! before you press command-i. Then click on "i-icon".

  • Lens profile Canon g1x mark II

    Dear all,
yesterday I installed the new Lightroom 5.5.
I own a Canon G1X Mark II (as a second camera). I can view and work with the raw files of this camera, no problem (this was working with 5.4, too).
But I cannot see this camera model in the lens profile selection. Only the previous model is listed.
Now my questions: Is a lens profile for the new mark II available?
Or will it come with a new release?
Does anybody know if there is a public lens profile available?
    Regards
    Bernd

I’d guess the G1X has always-on profiles encoded in the raw files so there’s no external Adobe profile needed.
Starting with Camera Raw 8.4 plug-in for Photoshop, it will say when there is a built-in, always on profile being used, but LR didn't get this capability, yet.  curvature of straight lines parallel to and near to the borders of the photos or do things look relatively straight.  If the latter, there is probably a lens profile being used behind the scenes, already.
If you want you can upload a G1X raw file you're curious about, using www.dropbox.com and post a public download link, here, and maybe someone will see it and test for you in Photoshop.

  • Why doesn't Bridge Recognize Canon G1X Raw Images even with ACR 6.6?

I got a new Canon G1X and upgraded my Adobe Camera Raw to version 6.6 which is supposed to recognize this camera.
No matter what I do, the bridge thumbnail never appears and I cannot open the files on Photoshop.  I always get an error message that this camera may not be supported.
It is supported and I have upgraded the SW several times.
    What gives??

I am wondering if my GX1 is too early or too late in serial number.
That should not matter, and if so it would be solved with a firmware update by Canon
But after some research it seems you need the beta version of ACR 6.7 that does has the support for the GX1 added. The release candidate ACR 6.7 can be found on Adobe Labs:
    http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/cameraraw6-7/
Read the about and terms and download the plug in. It is beta but pretty safe to use

  • Canon G1X RAW won't open in PSCS5

Even though Camera Raw plug-in lists G1X RAW as supported, PSCS5 will not open the RAW  .cr2 files. Camera Raw plugin version 6.6.0.261
Likewise, Adobe DNG Converter says it will, but will not. Likewise Lightroom 3.
I have seen mention of a beta 6.7 that will, but I am a publisher, and don't like having to use beta software!
Why is Adobe behind on this? The G1X is being sold (I have one), and should be supported in PS and Lightroom
    PSCS5 12.0.4 x64
    DNG Converter 6.6.0.261
    Lightroom 3 3.6 with Camera Raw 6.6

The Canon G1X RAW file format is currently supported in LR4 and should be supported with ACR 6.7 for PS.  There is a release-candidate available for ACR 6.7 at Adobe Labs:  http://labs.adobe.com/ along with the DNGC 6.7 RC.
It is your choice whether to use ACR 6.7 RC (or corresponding DNGC 6.7 RC) or wait for the release version of ACR 6.7.  If you need to wait, then take comfort that there is a beta which means Adobe is working on a solution that should work for you.
Be aware that there is a bug with ACR 6.7 RC when using PV2012 and LR4 so if you are thinking of upgrading to that, soon, then there will be rendering differences using PV2012 until Adobe updates ACR 6.7 to either RC2 or the release version.  With LR3.x you can only use up to PV2010 or earlier and the bug doesn’t manifest, there.

  • Can Aperture 3 read Raw files from Canon G1X?

Is Aperture 3 capable of reading Raw files from a Canon G1X?
I'm currently using an elderly version of IPhoto, having resisted upgrading because of negative feedback about the latest version. My IPhoto version cannot read the Raw files from the G1X. I also tried importing one into Picassa, but the colours looked completely wierd.
I'm now considering buying Aperture 3 but will maybe wait until:
    a. Aperture 4 is released and;
    b. I know that Aperture can indeed read the Raw files from the G1X.
    Any help/advice gratefully received.

    see this list:
Aperture 3: Wide raw support for leading cameras:
    http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/raw.html
Your camera is supported by Aperture 3.
P.S. and the camera is supported by MacOS X 10.7.4.,
see: OS X Lion: Supported digital camera RAW formats
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4757
What is your MacOS version? Perhaps upgrading to 10.7.4 should make the raw support available in iPhoto too.
