Shutter doesn't shoot!

Hi all.
Well, I want to use the screenshot-tool shutter for taking shots including the cursor. But I always get a "can't grab keyboard"-error. So what to do? Because the default "gnome keys" <Print>/<Alt+Print> don't work, I configured the key combination <alt><shift>F12, but still no dice.
When starting $ shutter &, I get:
Error while sending message: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus) at /usr/bin/shutter line 307, <DATA> line 19.
Any ideas?
I use xmonad btw.
Thanks.

Well, I already got it installed.

If you restored to factory settings/new iPod via iTunes (Not via Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content and Setting) and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem.

But it is faster to get the replacement at the Genius Bar.  If the iPad is defective, within warranty and not abused you will walk out with the replacement. Just make an appointment so you do not have to wait.

And what was the point of starting up another thread on exactly the same topic especially when you have already got responses in the original one. Please don't start new threads and or posts on the same topic as it only serves to cause confusion, duplicate answers and make it difficult to have a cohesive discussion. I have already responded to you in your original post about my iPhone 4.

Try powering the iPod off and then on again, then opening the camera app.  Or, delete it from the multitasking tab, and then try opening it.  Good luck!

  • Camera shutter doesn't open

The shutter will not open on my iphone camera. It works fine if I switch to the front-facing camera, but when I switch back to the rear camera the shutter is closed.
The same thing happens in instagram. I have closed the camera app. I have done a reset.
Does anyone have any other suggestions? Or does it sound like a hardware problem?
    Thanks.

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

  • My camera shutter doesn't open

My iPhone camera shutter will not open. Occasionally, the reverse camera shutter will open, but when I hit the button to reverse it back it just blurs out the picture--I don't think it ever switches around. I have powered off the phone using the top button and have done a reset by hitting both the top button and the front button at the same time. What else can I try? I am about 200 miles from the nearest Apple Store.

Basics from the manual are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new.  If you've tried ALL those steps and the problem persists, you'll need to make the trip to Apple.

  • When i try to take a self photo on my itouch 5, the shutter doesn't open and i can't take a picture, sometimes my app wont let me take pictures at all...help please?!

i just recently last month got a new itouch 5th generation ipod touch...recently after i had bought it, i noticed that i can't take self photos on my camera...if i am on the regular app taking a regular shot and try to switch it, it just freezes on me and i cant get it back to normal at all...ill have to restart it and leave it off for a day in order for it to work again....i really need help please in order to figure out what to do and if i should just bring it to apple!

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • I'm having trouble with my shutter locking up.

I'm know cameras pretty well...previous post discussed setting but I know what setting & lighting conditions to use. Basically the shutter closes & won't open back up or release unless I turn the camera off & back on. I think I've pinpointed it to be happening when I'm zooming in or out with my lens & trying focus. This is not good seeing as I do mostly sports photography! Asking if you think this is a camera/lens flaw or operated error. I'm use to my Nikon & never had this problem before....and anyone else I talk to loves their Canon. Help!

If the camera has a "focus lock" or "focus trap" setting, you must turn it off. I don't know if a T3 has that feature, though.
If the sports involve any sort of movement, you have to use AI Servo focus, not One Shot. One Shot is only for stationary subjects. In One Shot mode, as soon as focus is achieved, auto focus stops and locks. If a subject is moving, it will go out of focus and One Shot cannot correct for that. AI Servo, on the other hand, focuses continuously, as long as you keep the shutter button half-pressed and an active AF point on the subject you want focused. It never stops and locks, the way One Shot does.
In order to better understand the AF system of Canon cameras, I recommend viewing three half hour videos on YouTube, beginning with this one.  These videos cover a variety of Canon camera models and there are some differences between them, but you will likely find info relevant to your camera.
Besides focus, there are other possiblities... However, first thing to note is that the shutter doesn't close when you press the shutter release button, it opens. The shutter is normally closed, only opens momentarily to make the exposure. If you are seeing the viewfinder go dark (which is due to the mirror flipping up, not because "the shutter is closing") and no image is being taken, there are a couple things to check....
    1. Do you have "mirror lockup" engaged? This feature is on most Canon cameras I'm aware of and is turned on in the menu. It's used to flip the mirror up in advance of taking a longer exposure, where the vibration of the mirror "slap" might cause shake blur in the image. Once it's engaged, you press the shutter release once to raise the mirror, then a second time to take the image.
    2. Have you accidentally put the camera into Live View mode? This lifts the mirror immediately and what's being seen  via the lens is then displayed on the camera's rear LCD screen, real time. Accidentally starting Video recording acts similarly.
    3. Long exposure noise reduction is another feature that can be enabled or disabled on many Canon. It doesn't sound as if you are using long exposures, however just so you know, when LENR is on, the camera actually takes two images. First is the long one you set up, the second is equal length but with the shutter closed... a "dark image" that's used to identify noise to be deducted from the first image. Problem is, if you don't realize what's happening and cancel the second image (by turning off the camera, for example), neither the second or first images are saved. So you end up wondering what happened to your shot. But, again, this is not likely to be what you are encountering, because it sounds as if you are shooting in good light and using fast shutter speeds where LENR wouldn't occur, even if it's turned on.
I wouldn't worry about using higher ISO... 400 is about the lowest I use with sports shooting, unless I am going for slow shutter speeds and "action blur" effects. You should try 800 and even 1600. If shooting in the shade, I'll sometimes use 1600 even in broad daylight.
I would steer clear of Full Auto and Sports modes. Instead I'd suggest using P or, even better, Tv. These are still full auto exposure modes, but they don't impose other limitations on you (such as forcing you to shoot JPEGs instead of RAW files, and/or limiting the focus modes you can select).
    Hope this helps!

  • TS1702 When I try to open the Camera app or the photo booth, half of the times, the app doesn't open entirely, it shows me the initial image of a closed screen, and it never opens. My ipad is new, I bought it a week ago. Whan can be happening? Thanks!

I try to open the camera app, but it doesn´t work, the shutter doesn't open. I bought the ipad last week!
    Can anybody help me??
    Thanks!
    Karen

Quit the camera app completely and restart the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
If that doesnt help, try this. Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • N8 Camera shutter permanently shut

My N8's shutter is stuck shut. I turn the camera function on and everything loads up BUT, the shutter doesn't open at all. So every picture is complete darkness. I can focus (on pitch black), change all the settings but to no avail. The only thing I see on the screen is total pitch black. The black shutter makes a funny noise and seems to fail over and not open.
    I'm sad: please help.
Things I've tried: (1) switch from primary to secondary camera, (2) Use other apps like Qik and Fring, (3) Power the phone on and off.
    I think it's hardware-related... booooooo
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

My N8 does exatcly the same, the camera software loads and the shutter stays shut.  Yet sometimes it works, randomly.  Works, then doesn't!  All since I did the Anna update last week.  Has you problem been solved by sending it off?  I am reall trying not to have to send it off, but if I do, how long might it take to come back?

  • N86 Shutter problem

Hi, I'm having a problem with the inner camera shutter on my N86. When I open the outer shutter, the camera software starts but the inner mechanical shutter doesn't open. I can even take a picture of the inside of it!
Does anyone else have this problem and does anyone know a way round it? Thanks

    I also have this problem.
It's a strange one and annoying too.
What I have found is that if you open the lens cover and the camera function activates, but the shutter does not, activate the video function from the onscreen menu, then back to stills mode and it opens!  Failing that, shut lens cover, close camera app and start again.
I have not tried a hard reset.  It does not seem like a software issue, I could be wrong, but a sticky shutter?
Also, does anyone else have the issue where the gps does not automatically turn itself off after geo tagging when you finally get to take a picture.  Then the next thing you know,  your battery is flat!!!

  • Camera shutter stuck on iPhone3G

    Hi all,
After updating to OS 3.0, camera app is stuck. Shutter doesn't open.
    Even after restoring/resetting completely.
    Any suggestions much appreciated.
    Thanks

I'm having the same problem. I can use the camera once, but if I try to open the camera again, the shutter stays closed. The same thing happens when I view photos. I can open the album on my phone once, but not twice. The SAME THING happened just now when I tried to check the photo/camera settings. I opened Settings once, but not twice. AND, any photos I took with my old first gen iPhone are very low quality... sometimes. Not all the time. This is getting out of hand.

  • Why is my shutter stuck on ipad

I just received my Ipad2 yesterday - and my camera is already not working   i have tried to reset back to orginal settings like the post says but still when i click on my camera  all that happens is my shutter sits there and will not open.  HELP!!!

Try this -  rebooting:  Press and hold both the power and home button at the same time for at least 10 seconds  until the Apple Logo appears, then let go of both buttons.
    Is your iPad fully charged?
If after rebooting, your shutter doesn't open, you may have a hardware problem and you should make an appointment with the Genius Bar at your Apple Store.  If your unit is found defective, it will be replaced.
There's quite a few posts about this problem. Usually you will get a replacement from Apple.
