Shutter sound on an Ipod 4G?

Is there any way at all to turn this sound off?
As soon as you pull up the camera to take a picture, when the shutter opens, you CAN NOT turn the volume up or down.
I have went to the sounds part in the settings, turned the thing from off to on up at the top that was recommended in a forum, and it still make the sound!
I live in the USA, someone said in Japan there was no way of turning it off.
But I just want to turn it off so every time i'm taking pictures of my family like at christmas for instance, everyone doesn't stare at me everytime i'm taking a picture of someone opening a gift. I mean, on digital cameras, most of the time you can turn the sound off.

All I could find was to go to Settins Souns and and turn the Ringer and Alerts volume all the way down. I just tried that. The downside is that no yu heas no alerts.

If you press and hold the home button and click on the sleep button once, the iPod will make a screenshot of your home screen and add it to the photos on your device.
If you don't press the home button or the sleep button during to do this, one of your buttons might be stuck.
Try to reset the iPod by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again, ignore the "slide to turn off" message when you press and hold the buttons.

Adjust the volume of the shutter sound with the Ringer and Alerts settings in Settings > Sounds. Or mute the sound using the Ring/Silent switch. (In some countries muting is disabled.)
In what country are you located/from what country was the devices office sold? Japan is one country when you can't silence the shutter sound.

There's no option for this sound toggle in the US under "Sounds" on either the iPad or the iPhone. To disable the shutter sound, you need to mute the device. If yours does not mute even with the mute toggle, it's likely permanently enabled in your particular locale as King_Penguin mentioned.

The sound on my iPod touch is really quiet, and i have to have the volume up at least halfway just to be able to hear it, but once I get a notification, it goes back to normal, but only until I either go into the app, unlock my iPod or change the song. The shutter sound that my iphone 5s makes when I take a picture sounds like it's dying. Anyone else have this happen on their phone? This hasn't caused a problem with taking pictures but it sounds weird.

Unfortunately, your naivete about complex electronic devices has misled you into a common misconception that Problem A = Cause B = Painless, no-effort, Solution C. It's all magic to you.
Virtually any problem can have a multitude of causes, if for no other reason that you have incompletely described the total state of the phone. More broadly, your camera problem is being caused either by corrupted code and or settings, of unknown origin, or a hardware issue. There is no way anyone determine psychicly. The only way to find out is the standard troubleshooting steps developted by Apple, and described In the User Guide.

This has been a problem with the phone since the day I bought it. It can occur everyimte I use the camera app for a week then not happen as much for a couple months. In the past year, I have restarted, reset restored, etc several times and I still have this problem
You oddly failed to mention any of that in your initial post, and instead endowed us with whining about your frustration level... You didn't mention doing ANY of the troubleshooting steps you now describe. Yet another example of entitlement trumping logic.
The bottom line: Restore the phone as new (without restoring the backup), if you haven't done so already. If that doesn't work, you need warranty replacement of the phone.

Connect Macbook PRO house sound system via IPOD adaptor

I want to connect my Macbook PRO via USB to IPod dock adaptor on whole house sound system w/IPOD adaptor. Any suggestions for adaptors with USB to IPOD-like port? In other words one end of the cable needs USB (for Mac) and the other needs to look the internal mating part of the IPOD.

Your primary problem is not finding a cable, but finding a hardware or software device that will make the MPB behave like an iPod, which is quite a different kettle of fish.

can you see the speaker icon and the changing of the volume bar if you press your volume buttons?
Try this with the headphones plugged in and then unplug them and see if the volume for the speaker is displayed.
Is your volume limit set to max?
Set a volume limit for music and videos: Choose Music > Volume Limit and drag the slider to adjust the maximum volume
