Shutting down/Turning on iMac, Lion Bug?

I have a 2010 2.93 i7 iMac. When I turn it on, after the apple logo, it refreshes into another white screen with an apple and it comes with a black bar at the bottom. It disappears very quickly and then comes the login screen. When shutting it down, there's a white screen right before the computer turns itself off. Are these known bugs with Lion? Should I do a clean install to fix them or do some of you that have done a clean install experience this as well?

I've read on another forum from another person with the exact same problem and he also upgraded to Lion.
Here's the quote:
"I would like to add, it's quite petty, but it bugs me when it boots up or you shut down, how the screen turns white before the login or when it shuts down. It's brighter than the default apple logo boot up and it just looks off.
When I shut down last night, this white screen hung for a few seconds and showed a pixelated bar at the top of the screen..."
I would like to add that I never had a problem like this when using Snow Leopard.

    jean156,
I am a little confused, you are posting in an iMac forum however your profile only indicates you have a MacPro. While I agree a SMC reset may help please carefully read the link The hatter provided because different Mac's have a different processes for resetting the SMC.
In the mean time you may want to update your profile (Your Stuff in upper right and click Profile) and also please post in the correct forum to avoid confusion.

    Hello All,
I have a 15" i7 Macbook Pro from early 2011. The past few weeks, it has been getting increasingly difficult to get on my computer. It takes the mac laptop two or three tries to boot successfully. It would turn on, show gray screen, shut down, turn on again, show gray screen, shutdown, and then turn on, show gray screen, before it can finally get to the dark gray log-in screen. Even when I finally get logged in to start working, thinking it would be okay now, it shuts down randomly.
I've ruled out the possibility of a software problem because I've just done a clean re-install of Mac OS X Mavericks on my computer just yesterday.
I did upgrade the RAM recently, about a month and a half ago, from 4GB to 16GB, I went to the apple store four days after that upgrade to have them do a hardware test, and clean the inside of my laptop, which helped with previous heat issues. When they did the hardware test, the hardware was all registered as fine from their system.
I've tried resetting the SMC, PRAM, and doing the internet recovery hardware test, but to no avail. I thought I could at least find out what parts needed to be replaced from the hardware test but it seems that when the hardware test is almost finished, the computer just shuts down, So I am unable to see the results.
My computer is also having battery issues, under battery condition, it says "replace now," parts have been ordered, waiting for arrival. But if the battery health is low, it should still boot up fine, it would just hold a significantly less charge.
Could this be a hard drive issue?
Has anyone had similar symptoms and how was it resolved?
Does anyone know what I can do to alleviate this issue?
I haven't had time to take it to Apple because I'm currently taking a 21 credit semester academically. I'm an art and design student so my computer is basically the bane of my existence. Help! Any constructive advice is welcomed!
Thank you so much for your input!

  • IMac shuts down randomly after downloading Lion

About a month ago, I installed OS X Lion from the App store. Ever since then, my iMac randomly shuts down, even when it's not necessarily hot. It especially shuts down when I have multiple videos playing like on YouTube and Netflix, but still, it's not abnormally hot. Never had a problem before and this iMac is 2 years old. I have even reinstalled Lion twice now after using the Command + R. I even tried the disk utility part. And tried holding down the shift key at startup, which I did first by the way...
Please help!!! I've never had a problem with any of my other Apple devices (MacBook, iPhone 4 & 5, iPod) so this is kinda shocking to me.

  • IMac keep shutting down after installing OSX lion

    Hi,
I have a mid 2010 27 inch i5 machine and after I had installed OSX Lion last month the machine randomly shut itself down while I'm using it.  At first I thought it was because of a software problem with Final Cut Pro X, since I installed that at the same time and it would shut down while I was using it.  Then it start to shut down while I'm just browsing the net.  Restarting is not a problem but a pain to loose unsafe data when it crashes.
Does anybody else have this problem?  Again the machine was working fine before OSX Lion so I don't think it's a hardware issue.  On average it would shutdown once or twice per usage day sometime a few minutes after turning on the machine, still cool, and sometime after a while, not excessively hot.
Appreciate any help and thank you in advance!

  • Finder will not let me log out or shut down. just updated to Lion 10.7.5 Says programs still running

I have just updated my Macbook(late 2009) to Lion OS X 10.7.5 and when I go to logout or shut down the Finder icon starts jumping. I click on it and a popup window says, "The Finder can't quit because some operations are still in progress"  - "You can cancel or stop the operations, and then try again". I go to the Dock and everything is closed. Wait! I go to Mac App Store and iTunes Stores. I log out of both of them. I try to log out and shut gown again and Finder still won't let me. Same message.
Is anyone else out there experiencing this. Can anyone help me? What is still running? How to find out what is still running? I dreaded this ever since the announcement of ML.

    Do a PRAM reset.
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Immediately press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.Continue holding the keys down until the computer restarts, and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • What is causing random shut downs on new iMac?

I have a new iMac which is shutting down without any warning! Anyone know if this is a known issue? Is it software or hardware?

    Hi FPMS
That sounds like partially seated or a dislodged ram module! I would first check to see if they are both seated correctly, you'll need to push real hard on each module with both thumb's. Use the iMac Installing or replacing memory link below to assist you if someone else installed them for you.

  • Macbook Pro won't shut down or restart under Lion.

After installing Lion, my i5 Macbook Pro will not shut down or restart. The shutdown starts and then hag=ngs with a grey screen and a spinning process indicator. Thoughts?

Mine too. Restart and shutdown do longer works. Have to hard crash it each time.
Called Apple, they have no clue.

  • My mac mini doesn't shut down after installing mountain lion?

Right after i installed mountain lion and checked all the new features, I closed all applications, clear ram, clear cache, clear print queue, made sure that nothing was running when i logged out(only one 1 user was logged on.) I shut down and it seemed normal until the mac mini restarted, saying there was a problem and the normal error report appeared on screen when everything rebooted(after I log back on.) I'm angry. Really what should I do, I just bought this on December 2011( i7 mac mini sandy bridge) of last year. I hope apple releases an update to fix this problem.
My first attempt was to go to disk utility and fixed it, it worked I was able to shut down. However after that it started to go back to the way it was and it still wont shut down. Yes Im able to do everything else like put the hardrive to sleep(yes it goes to sleep I made sure) and force closing applications. Right now Im going to attempt doing what I did before but I will appreciate if a representaive or an apple veteran would give me advice or some useful information on how to fix this problem.
This happened 8/18/2012 at 6:57(when I installed Mountain lion and checked.)

  • Macbook randomly shuts down after installing Mountain Lion.

I have a late 2008 Aluminum Macbook; as of last week I have installed Mountain Lion finally and I've come across a rather irritating problem: the laptop keeps randomly shutting down. I've noticed it primarily likes to go down when the battery is at 89%. I've never had battery trouble before, this happens even when the computer is not over-heating, so I'm fairly certain it's not a battery issue. After restarting the computer all the applications I was using are still open and any progression I had made on documents have been saved since the time of the crash.
I'm really at a loss as to what's going on with this. Has anyone experienced something like this or have any suggestions as to how to fix this?

    Hi ppl again :)
I found that screen is not disabled, it is only have a very low brightness. So I begin to wait because I saw that actually installer is still running. Finally, Mas OS was installed and after that I change brightness using keyboard (it didn't worked while installation). Now all is ok. I also tried to reboot and system loaded correctly.
I hope this will help. Unfortunatelly Apple support was unable to help me by a phone call.
    Have a nice day!

  • Shut down time increased on Lion

    Stats: 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7 / 8GB 133 MHz DDR3 / 13" MBP
As bugy as it was, I got Lion as soon as it came out and dealt with problems. However, even after several clean starts (wiping and reinstalling), I still have a very slow shut down time. Sometimes it decides to shut down in seconds, sometimes I have to wait up to 20-25 seconds. This is a big deal when coming from SL which took only 3-4 seconds.
I've cleaned all apps, changed all settings, and did everything all other posts said, but it's still not improving the time. Would it be wise to just downgrade to SL?

I had the first GM also and no problems.

    Could be Lion's Resume feature?

That's your call, you are now an expert on clean installs

  • Hp c8180 shutting down & turning back on

My printer (HP Photosmart c8189 All in One) seems to be stuck in a loop of shutting down and turning back on--power button unresponsive--tried unplugging everything -- tried changing the power cord - that's about all I know to do. Any suggestions?

I have been having the same problem.  Unfortunately, HP is slow in providing answers or not at all.  I have been on other HP discussion boards where there have been at least 100 questions over a period of a month that have not been answered.  I hope you and I get a quick response since I need my printer for business and I can't wait very long.  Good Luck!
