Shutting down 'tuxedo daemons' (or servers with long-time svc)

Question

eLink brings 'tuxedo daemon' idiom (in short: to have some client
application booted and run from tmboot, restared on error etc, one
should move 'main' contents to some service body, give it unique name
and tpacall it from tpsvrinit). This is nice regarding boot and
auto-restart, but causes some problem on shutdown. It seems that it is
very hard to shut down such a process (tmshutdown hangs on it, Ctrl-C
asks whether to kill and reports the error, ...).
My question is: is it possible to somehow 'nicely' shut the process
containing long-running service down?
Fairy related: is it possible to call tmshutdown in 'force' mode (so
it automatically 'force to shutdown the process' if it does not
respond to shutdown request quickly)?

We have implemented such a daemon by means of a timer. Each time the timer is reached, the service is called (tpacall) from the timer handler, and the timer is set again (e.g. in the service handler). As the actual service routine doesn't take long, but only is called frequently by the timer handler, the server responds to a tmshutdown very well.
