Shutting Off iPod Mini / Terrible Bass EQ

I just got a refurb iPOD mini 4GB from the apple refurb listing. This thing is like new. The batt shoud last 18 hours but I haven't gotten that even with very light use. I think this thing wakes up alone but I just turned off the alarms. OK
What other ways can completley shut the iPod instead of sleeping it by the menu & holding the play buttun. ( Off / instead of sleeping).
I also noticed that when I set an EQ with more bass, it sounds terrible with the earbuds and even with an expensive pair of wrap-around headsets from Phillips. Even my 1GB shuffle sounds more punchy. What gives????????

  • Turning off ipod mini

think I'm going mad; I fully charge my ipod mini, play it short while, e.g. in car on way to work, turn it off then come to go home and the **** thing has turned itself on and been playing away and run the battery down. I've tried all I can to make sure its turned off but over a period of time its driving me nuts. Makes it useless as the battery is always run down or I get less than 1hr use before having to recharge! HWLP!

You most likely have the alarm set. Check calendar events also.

  • Content disappears off iPod mini

I have an original iPod mini and it's always worked great. It has the latest software, and I have the latest version of iTunes. In the past week or so, I've had a lot of problems with syncing and getting iTunes to even recognize my iPod. I've had to repeatedly restore it, then load all the songs, audiobooks and podcasts onto it. Several times now, after laboriously copying everything over, I've synced a podcast or music, only to find nothing on the iPod when I hop into my car and turn on the iPod. This happened again today, right after I verified that I'd loaded two new podcasts on it and ejected it properly.
This time I decided, after restoring, to cut my losses and only put on the podcasts I want to listen to, and one audiobook. No music. So I loaded on one audiobook and one podcast. When I tried to drag another podcast on, it just refused to do anything. No error message or anything. This has happened once before.
Is it possible that my iPod hard drive is just giving out? Does this seem like a hard drive issue? I can't think of anything else, but I'm crossing my fingers that this is not it. Help!

    Hi,
That much "other" is usually corrupt data, to fix it you need to restore and resynch.
    Good luck,
    Dud.

  • Shutting off....only when plugged in.

I know there are a lot of posts out there about the ibook shutting off, but mine has some peculiarities I didn't see in others, so before I take my computer apart as was the conclusion here http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1082138&tstart=0, I'll give this a shot.
My ibook randomly (when in use mostly but sometimes not) shuts down, though I don't think all the way. The screen goes black, and it is quieter, but there is still some sound, indicating it is on somehow. I remove the battery, unplug, wait a bit, put it back in, sometimes this works fine. Sometimes I have to repeat the process.
I should note a few things:
This ONLY happens when the power cord is plugged in.
The power cord is not made by apple, it is a replacement cord.
This started happening after buying and using a different replacement cord than the one I am currently using. This particular cord actually died on me. It still had some power, but not enough to power my ibook.
Does anyone have any recommendations? Even just what to ask if I take it to a mac place?

Do you happen to have iStatPro? It is a widget available from the Apple Web Site. I am wondering if the whirring noise you hear is your fan? Intensive applications tend to raise the temperature of everything and cause the fan to come on.
You might also put activity monitor in your dock and check the CPU usage during some of these big applications. I'm wondering if you are running it almost at its limits and it might be getting overheated and shutting down for that reason. I am not a gamer, but possibly some other member of the forum is and has experienced this phenomonon. I'm not sure of this, but I think the iBook is designed to shut itself off before incurring damage from overheating. I don't know what HD, processor, or RAM you have, but it might be helpful to post that. And also, how much free space there is on your HD. I probably can't help any more, but it might give another gamer enough information to confirm or refute my guess.
    Good luck!

  • HT201210 My ipad mini is stuck in a continues reboot and will not turn on or shut off. What can I do.

My Ipad mini was in the middle of an update for the Pintrest app when the upload froze. I tried shutting down the ipad and that seemed to cause it to go into a constant reboot. Now the ipad will not turn on or shut off. Only display the apple sign. Are the any self fix remedies out there to fix this?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • I've tried EVERYTHING.  iPod still will NOT shut off...

My iPod has refused to shut off for over a week now. First I went through all the usual steps (resetting dozens of times) and I still could not get it to turn off by pressing play/pause. I then restored my iPod and the thing will still not shut off.
Oddly enough it will turn off if it is being charged, but if it is not, it will remain on. Even the SLEEP button does not work!
I haven't the slightest idea what to do now. Any and all help is greatly appreciated

Had a similar problem. holding play/pause didnt turn mine off.. (also 60GB iPod Photo). But mine did turn off if I disconnected the headphones while its on hold to make it pause and then then automatically switched itself off after a couple of minites of not being used. If this is a bad batch watch out... i've just had a hard-disk failure. see

  • Turning the iPod Mini OFF

Using the click wheel, I can pause easily but turning the iPod off is really difficult. I don't know whether I'm holding the Pause button down too long, not long enough or if there's an easier way.
It seems when I turn my iPod off the battery lasts longer than when I pause it and it falls into a deep sleep.
What can I do to make it easier to turn my iPod off?

    Hi Sparklefufu;
I was having problems shutting down my iPod Mini. Then it got itself into a state where it needed to be reset it. I wasn't able to get reset to work. I brought to the Apple store and they reset it. They then asked me to reset it. It appears I was applying too much pressure. When I applied only enough pressure to make the switch click it worked. Now the shut down is working for me every time.

  • Ipod Video (30 gig) will not shut off

    Hello,
I have a problem turning off the Ipod. I press and hold the play/pause button. sometimes for 30 sec and nothing happens. I have done the five steps listed on the help page twice (reset etc...). Has anyone had this happen? How to fix?

I had this happen with mine. It won't shut off when the hard drive is going, and occasionally (for whatever reason) it takes a while before the drive stops. You might want to select a smaller song or something, or try pausing it. Honestly, I didn't find much of a solution other than waiting for the drive to stop.

  • Ipod mini keeps turning on  and off all the time. Help

I got this ipod mini in may, it worked great, but then all of a sudden it started to turn on and off once in a while mostly now it happens once a day..i checked if maybe the timer was set but it wasnt at all, can i fix it by myself or do i have to send it back to the factory for the warranty repair.

the same thing is happening to my ipod mini, I received a brand new mini in July, and every time I use it it shuts on and off whenever I touch it, even with a fully charged battery, and it also shows the battery sign, do i need to get it serviced?

  • Why does my ipod nano keep shutting off?

My new Ipod nano keeps shutting off after about a minute when playing music. It is fully charged.

Hi, I had the same problem  googled the problem & it said to make sure ear piece  is in as far as possible , make sure no silver is showing on the jack, check out ifixit.com. mine now working ok.

  • Ipod mini- 3/4 battery shutting down with "no battery power remaining"

After fully charging my ipod mini, while it still has 3/4 battery on the battery meter in the corner will shut itself down due to "no battery power remaining" if i push the NEXT button too many times in a row. This is a consistant problem and always happens when i have a half battery power or more. I do keep it in Shuffle mode, and i am fully aware that will drain the battery quicker, however there should be no reason a freshly charged ipod with 3/4 battery should not be able to shuffle a few songs without shutting down. Has anyone else ever had this problem or knows of any solution for fixing it? Any help would be appreciated!!

my ipod is doing the same thing...except when I turn it on it will say i have 3/4 battery for only about 10 seconds, then it turns off. All the other forums I have read say to get the battery replaced, but Apple can and usually does send a faulty battery so it might be time for a new ipod.

  • Mini 2140 shutting off with any kind of movement or jarring rendering the battery useless

Hello, I have about 260 of these devices and I am running into an issue with the 6-cell extended life batteries.
We have replaced the 3 cell standard life battery with the 6 cell extended life battery. Now for the issues. I have had several of these come to me with the same problem. When a using sets the machine down it will instantly power off. Almost as if you pulled the battery out. Now, once the machine shuts down you can power it back up just fine. Of course it will shut down instantly again if you touch or jar the battery at all.
Now some of them get so bad that the machine will not power on and I have to replace the battery with a new one. Does anyone know what cause this? Is there a fix for this?
    I am running
    HP Mini 2140
    XP Pro SP3
    6 cell extended life batteries
I do have 3 cell batteries that we use as back ups. I have never had one of these go bad so far.
They have been in use since August of 2009
Please let me know if anyone else has seen these issuses.
If you need any more info just let me know.

wouldn’t be concerned with this if it wasn’t wasting the battery.
The battery is not being wasted.
Apparently this mini ipod is suppose to have 14 hour battery life
That is the "estimated" time of battery life.
Depends on a lot of different factors.
As a matter of fact, last night ~11 PM, I turned on my fully charged Mini, set it to Repeat All and hit play. I turned on Hold, set it on my dresser & let it go. on & let it go.
It was still running tonight at 8:30 PM. It finally died within the last 1.5 hours or so. 21-23 hours is how long I got out it.
but mine is much less since it doesn’t properly shut off.
It is properly shutting off. Your battery is probably going bad.
Your iPod is working exactly as it is supposed to work.

  • My iPod mini will just shut down..

There are times I'll be listening to my iPod and it'll come on and say "No battery power left" and shut down, but yet there is about half of the battery power left. Then it struggles coming back on, but I eventually get it back on and it works just fine for 30 minutes or so until it does it again.
Does anyone know what is wrong with it?

Your situation sounds eerily similar to mine, and since I'm pretty attached to my iPod, this situation is kind of distressing for me, even though, to my knowledge, it's not too serious.
Do you know how to reset your iPod? I do this to temporarily get mine working again. What you do is, once the iPod shuts off, you toggle the Hold switch on the top (turn it on and off) and then push down the Menu and select buttons (select button is in the center of the touch wheel) simultaneously. You have to hold them until an Apple logo displays on the screen. Then you take your fingers off and wait until you get a regular screen.
You can do this either manually or automatically. If you try to reset by plugging in to a computer's USB port or power adapter, you may have to reset your time, date, and custom information. However, if you do it the way I described without plugging it in, you will retain more of your data (but it's always a good idea to check to see if anything's missing). Either way, your song data will stay, unless, of course, you plug the iPod into the computer with your iTunes database and you've altered the database's contents since your last upload.
Really, it's much easier than it sounds--but as far as I know, it's only a temporary fix. If I find a way to stop this permanently, I'll let you know--and please do the same for me if you find anything.
Thanx, and I hope this helps.
