Shutting off Power to Actiontec MI424wr each night.

Does the Actiontec MI424wr lose settings if shut off at night. By settings, I'm referring to the DHCP connections, the static connections, internet IP address, Dynamic DNS and DNS server, etc.

Does the router have a chip that retains settings when powered off? I don't care about the DHCP lease since I have a Dynamic DNS service for my ip cameras. Why would changing leases too often cause problems?
The router really doesn't put out that much power. 10-20 watts max.
The chip will retain the settings just not the dhcp lease. Usually after 2 hours of being off it will release the lease.
It doesn't always happen though so you may have the same one when you turn it back on the next day.
Your guide on the tv will work when turned back on, but you may need to reboot your dvr/stb at times.
The dvr should at least store enough guide info to be able to record events while the router is off. You may or may not run into problems with shows being set to record overnight while the router is off.
If you dont have a dvr then there's no issues there.
Don't worry about the dhcp lease. If you for some reason run into an issue with it you can always call Verizon. The main issue you may run into is where the lease is released and you won't be able to pull a new one in. That's when you would have to call them. I've known people who lost power overnight and ran into this issue. The router wouldn't pull a new one in. You shouldn't have this problem though.
Turn if off at night if you want and if you run into problems then just leave it on at that point forward.
This is what Actiontec says about turning off the router at night. Comes from their website.
Should I turn the Actiontec Router or Modem Off each night, or should I leave it On, perpetually?
"Actiontec Routers and Modems are designed to be left on continuously. The nature of the Internet makes an 'always on' connection very desirable, and in some cases a requirement. Turning the Actiontec Off when it is not being used, could arguably add to security. But any gains to Security by not being connected to the Internet 24/7, must be balanced against the loss of much convenience.
Whether it is a computer or a router, many users feel that turning electronic devices Off and On each day will wear them out prematurely, and others are convinced it will not.
Actiontec recommends leaving our routers and Modems on continuously, but they can be turned Off and On each day if you prefer."

  • Shutting off power strip when not watching television

Before I subscribed to FIOS I always shut off my power strip on my plasma television to save money on my electric bill.  I continued to so, but shortly after I subscribed to FIOS,  a technician had to give us a new box.  My son is guessing we needed a new box because of shutting off the power strip.  My electrical bills are considerably higher now.
Do you think we will have problems if we shut off the power strip when not using the television?
    Thanks!

The only ptoblem with shutting off the power strip is how long you have to wait for the box to reboot when you turn it back on. Also most of Verizon's updates occur at night while you are sleeping.

  • Equalizer "Shuts Off" at the start of each new song

Recently I noticed that the equalizer on iTunes 11.2.2 doesn't stay active.  If I set the EQ and play a playlist, the EQ shows it's "on" by the checkmark, but the effect is actually shut off.  If I change any of the sliders, the sound shaping turns on and sounds as it should but it doesn't stay active for more than one song.  At the start of each new track, the EQ sounds like it's shutting off. If I uncheck the "on" box, it sounds exactly the same.  I must then check the "on" box again and then the EQ becomes active and you can hear the intended effect again.  As soon as that current track ends, the sound reverts back to the equivalent of the unchecked "on" box and the sound is again flat.  I have to repeat the sequence.
I have attempted to change the EQ setting under "options" for each individual track and it makes no difference.

Thank you but it did not work. I changed it to selected item but I still bounce back to the song being played at the beginning of each song. I find this very annoying! Thanks but it did not work.. I did not mention but I'm using iTunes 7.

  • My hp laserjet m2727nf will not work until i shut off power and power back on.

My laserjet will not work until i power off then power on after every printing job. It first started happening over the weekend when it sat idle for 2 days. Then it was once a day and now every time i need to print. What could be the problem?

So i didn't read anything about the suggestion about the configuration report?
I would recommand turning off wireless (if it has it), unplugging usb, unplugging network cable, unplugging fax cable. Then i would reboot the printer go to the Menu and in Reports try to print a "Configuration Report".
If it still doesn't print i would unfortunately then may be try resetting it back to factory default. perhaps there is some setting that is causing this issue. Also causes printer to fully reinitialize itself. There should be a button in the menu and setup to set back to defaults.
Let me know if any of that helps and what the results of trying to print an internal report are.

  • How to shut off power nap feature on MBP 2010

This may be a weird one. I have a MBP 6,2   Apple did replace the MB last fall (2013) due to a video issue, but it still ID's as a 6,2
I have a 512 GB SSD in it, running 10.9.1  I bought this 15 inch MBP in January of 2010.
Here's the problem. It receives mail and notifications, etc. when it is asleep. My preferences panel, under Energy, has no Powernap box. Powernap does not exist on this machine as a preference. Is there another way to stop this? As far as I have searched, powernap should not be supported by this machine.

a MacBook Pro made in 2010 does not have Powernap.  Are you sure it is actually going to sleep?  Does the sleep light indicator pulse?

My phone randomly shut off in the middle of the night, I'm not sure if it was just a glitch and won't happen again, but I want to make sure that it doesn't happen again.  The phone was charging and I had to hold the power and home button down for about 30 seconds for it to turn back on. Could you tell me how to prevent this from happening again?

It's a computer, they're not perfect devices, sometimes they freeze.  There's nothing you can do to guarantee it won't happen again.  I would just ignore it unless it happens again.  If it does, you can do the standard troubleshooting steps such as restart, reset, and restore.

  • HP Laptop DV5000 shuts off without warning

My DV5000 is shutting off without warning at different stages of starting up. It has shut down before the splash screen, after the login screen, after getting to the desktop, in regular startup and safe mode. Tried taking out the battery and unpluging the power adapter, held down the power button for 30 seconds. Tried starting up with no battery using only the power adapter and got to the desktop before it shut down. Charging indicator is flashing to indicate that it is charging when plugged in. Was working fine last night, then we had a power outage (car vs fire hydrant city had to shut off power because water was hitting power lines). Nothing else in house seems to be affected by the outage. Not sure if just a coincidence or because of the power outage that the problem started. Used canned air to blow out vent and fan areas still not staying on. Any thoughts????

    Hi,
I bought my laptop to two years ago this past October. I have tried to boot up without the cell battery attached also. To no avail.
I finally got it to boot up with the recovery disk. First recovery disk worked fine, second recovery disk, error message. Bad Disk

  • I have the iPhone4. It wont stay on unless it's plugged into the charger. When on the charger it doesn't get service or connect to wifi. Sometimes, even on the charager it shuts off. Note: It's always on 100% to 90%. How do I fix this?

As stated. I have the iPhone4, I've had it personally for a year now. It's a hand-me-down phone from my uncle who had for for at least two years. For an old phone it worked perfectly. The ocassional hang up on the caller when I try to lock it, but overall it worked perfectly.
Now, it started to glitch out a lot. From not letting me unlock my phone for the few minutes, to now shutting off on on regardless of where it's at. I started noticing that my phone would shut itself off, even at 40% when I'm at work. To fix it I would have to find a charger, plug it in for a few moments and it would turn back on. I would be cautious not to put it upsidedown otherwise it'd shut off again.
As of last night, ((9/18/13 )) My phone turned off. I've already gone through the charade numerous times. So I put it on my charger but this time when my phone turned on I didn' have service and it didnt get wifi. Even the red buttons/notifications on my phone were there but didn't read any numbers. Obvioulsy I couldn't make calls or even send a text messages. Sometimes when it turns on I can't even use my apps. Even when fully charged, the moment the chargers is slightly out my phone shuts off as if it died
Now, my phone even on the charger shuts on and off. I'm unable to use apps. I get no service or wifi.
Is this fixable? Or has my phone had it's last Hoorah?

it sure sounds like the battery is defect

  • Necessary to Power off each night?--Logic/Interface Question

Hey all....i recently purchased the M-Audio Solo Firewire and am wondering if it is necessary to "unplug"(firewire)it from the mac each night...reason why i ask is because of the VERY bright blue power light that it emits in my room...I let the mac 'sleep' everynight, but the power light stays lit...if so, how should i unplug it each night? and/or how long is it ok to keep it 'powered up'? thanks for any and all help....

If your drives dont turn off, I have a question. Are you using a UPS (Uninteruptable Power Supply)? If not, you really should consider it. The UPS is kind of a battery that takes in the fluctuating AC power and stores it and puts out a steady stream of constant rated power. Furthermore, and what they are designed for, is in the event of a power outage, they keep putting out steady power for about 20 minutes. Long enough to save your work and shut down safely. I have a nice one that I plug in my computer, my Audio and MIDI interface, and my external Hard Drives. And it has saved me more than once. When I shut down at night, the last thing I do is turn off the UPS which in affect, turns off my FireWire drives as well.

  • HT1414 My iPhone 4 has recently started shutting off overnight. I have to power it back up each morning to use it again thus preventing me from being able to use the basic alarm clock feature.

How do I correct this recent issue where my iPhone 4 powers down overnight? It started shutting down as if I turned off the phone. It began around three or four weeks ago in December 2013. Is anyone else experiencing the same issue? I bought my iPhone 4 in January 2010 and use Verizon cellular service.

At first I suspected a bad connection with a Sharper Image charging dock. But I find that it shuts off overnight even when I don't charge it. I can have it charged up at night, not go to use it until the next morning and have to hit the Home key either with a quick double-click or long hold down on Home key until the Aplle logo appears, in order to be able to use the phone again. I have not resorted to wiping the iPhone to full restore yet.

  • Actiontec MI424WR router failure to power up/boot up

When I power on the Actiontec MI424WR router, all that happens is that all the lights just blink rapidly (including the little green one on the power pack plugged into the wall).  After a short period of time, everything just shuts off.  I have tried a hard reset, as well as leaving off for a few minutes and disconnecting all network connections.  Has this router bit the dust?

  • Windows 7 64 bit has problems with Actiontec MI424WR while wired with wireless radio off

I have discovered an issue with Windows 7 64 bit OS.  My attempted set up was to havea 802.11n Belkin Play router connected to my Actiontec MI424WR router as a wireless access point with the MI424WR wireless radio turned off.  This worked fine for my XP 32 bit PC, my Windows 7 32 bit PC, and my 2 Windows 7 64 bit laptops using wireless.  A problem arose when I tried wired connections on the Windows 7 64 bit laptops and a Windows 7 64 bit PC.
While wired, internet would drop either completely or intermittently but too frequently to be useful.  Tech support had no idea what to do or what caused it.  It was reproducible after a reset of the router and then turning off the wireless radio.
I could fix it by turning on the wireless radio again, but I had hoped to turn it off and only use wireless from the 802.11n router.
    Any ideas?
    Brian

Did you disconnect wireless on the 2 Windows 7 64 bit machines while testing wired?
What is the connection between the Actiontec and the Belkin?  LAN-to-WAN or LAN-to-LAN?
If the connection is LAN-to_LAN, the wireless connection on each machine would have obtained a DHCP address from the Actiontec.  When you connected wired, you would have gotten a new IP address based on the different MAC address of the wired NIC, resulting in the machine having 2 IP addresses.  This may not be readily apparent on the Actiontec main status page as the second connection will get a generated name of "new-host-xx" (the router can't reuse the same PC name for 2 different IP addresses).  Windows should be able to keep the two connections on the same subnet straight, but I've seen WIndows do stranger things.
If the connection is LAN-to-WAN, the Belkin must have a different subnet address than the Actiontec (e.g.. 192.168.2.x).  Now, if you connect both wired to the Actiontec (192.168.1.x) and wireless via the Belkin (192.168.2.x), Windows is going to have connections to two different subnets with two different gateway routers. Without explicit routing rules, Windows won't know which gateway to use.

  • Power Cycling Thinkvision LCD Monitors from the Mains Board each night

    Hi
Can anyone confirm whether IBM / Lenovo have said its ok to power cycle monitors at the wall socket each night, rather than relying on power saving modes?
I have about 50 Thinkvision monitors -  L151, L170p, L171p, L192p, L193p, L200p, L201 - all hung off the same circuit and I want to flick the circuit breaker each night, regardless of whether the monitors are on or off.
I can't see any issues with this - but would like IBM / Lenovo to confirm as well.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers

  • MacBook Pro (Early 2008) Shuts off using Battery Power

Just last night my computer just shut off using the battery power. It was charged at 84%. This morning I checked out what the problem could be. A few discussion boards said the battery could be the issue. These are the battery specs.
    Model Information:
    Serial Number: SMP-ASMB014-38c5-b97
    Manufacturer: SMP
    Device name: ASMB014
    Pack Lot Code: 0002
    PCB Lot Code: 0000
    Firmware Version: 0110
    Hardware Revision: 0500
    Cell Revision: 0102
    Charge Information:
    Charge remaining (mAh): 3731
    Fully charged: No
    Charging: Yes
    Full charge capacity (mAh): 3731
    Health Information:
    Cycle count: 114
    Condition: Check Battery
    Battery Installed: Yes
    Amperage (mA): 350
    Voltage (mV): 12611
I bought this MacBook back in June of 2008 and have never had ANY problems. The health condition says to Check Battery and I've reset the SMC, PRAM, and NVRAM. When the computer runs on battery it last until about 80-84% of the battery life and just turns off. I press the power button and the gray screen appears and it clicks off again. I have to be plugged into the AC and I cannot calibrate my battery since it won't stay on past 80%.
The main reason I'm posting this board is to figure out if this is actually my battery but also that when I tried to call Apple I was asked to purchase an AppleCare plan. I just wanted to talk to someone to make sure it was my battery.
Thanks for your help in advance!

So maybe I'll let it run on battery till it dies... plug in the AC and let it turn on, unplug and see how much more it lasts and so on?
