Hi Daniel,
After you've set up the edit as a roll edit you have a couple of choices. You can set up the Shuttle pro to do either an Extend Edit or set up a button to perform a multi-frame trim. if you choose to do the multi-frame you'll have to do one button for forward & one for reverse.
If you are not sure how to program your jog shuttle, you may want to check the article I wrote for Mike Horton & Ken Stone in May 2003.

When OpenGL stopped working (option greyed out)

I discovered a weird bug in Photoshop 12.1 x64 with nVidia graphic cards and what´s causing it:
Problem (on all off my PCs): OpenGL support in prefs / performance is greyed out, no shadow below open documents visible ( == OpenGL not working). After deleting prefs.psp and restarting (as the www says), OpenGL support was working again, on next restart: no support - option greyed out again.
Solution: if deleting the prefs file or the whole prefs folder don´t work, check if you have a custom workspace with the brush floating panel open.
If so, close it and remvoe it from workspace, restart PS and.... OpenGL support is working again!
I could reproduce this bug on all of my PCs, no matter what type of GFXcard and driver version is installed.
Maybe that bug occurs only with Win7 x64, PS 12.1 x64 and nVidia cards, but removing the brush panel solved it on every machine!!
I´ve opened a support ticket and provided Adobe with screenshots of the working and not-working states... maybe they can fix this with an update!

I did heavy testing the last days including systems at my home and at a friends office.
In fact, I can´t tell, what´s causing this, but it seems to depent on a certain type of installation. But first the tested systems:
nVidia GTX480 SLI, Win 7 x64, CS5.5 - working
nVidia GTX580 Win7, CS5 - working
ATI HD4870x2, Win7 x64, CS5 - working
nVidia GTX580, Win 7 x64, CS5.5 (update from CS4 ->CS5 -> CS5.5) - not working
nVidia GT240M, Win7 x64, CS5.5 - working
ATI X1900XT - XP SP3 x64, CS5 - working
nVidia QuadroCX, Win 7 x64, CS5.5 (update from CS4 ->CS5 -> CS5.5) - not working
ATI HD4390, XP x64 SP3, CS5.5 (update from CS4 ->CS5 -> CS5.5) - not working

On each system I installed the latest driver & updates, rebooted it and followed the same procedure:
1 - removed (==renamed) prefs folder
2 - start PS
3 - open prefs / performace
4 - config OpenGL for "Advanced"
5 - closing prefs and restarting PS
6 - checking OpenGL when active: pt7
7 - Open menu "Window" and and select "Brush" (or press F5)
8 - docking Brush-panel from original position to the tools-panel on the left
9 - saving workspace as "BrushTest"
10 - restarting PS
11 checking OpenGL
Since you have all older Versions still installed when you update i.e from CS4 to CS5 I tried this with every installed version.
On my two office WS I have CS4, 5 and 5.5.
After trying this with the GTX580 with this results: CS4 working, CS5 working, CS5.5 not working - I today started PS 12.1 for working and saw that tiny shadow below the document - WITH the brush panel open!!
Checked it and now its working proper. I have no clue what has changed over night but it did it...
My primary WS with the Quadro card still refuses to actived OpenGL with the opend brush-panel, no matter what I try.... maybe I gonna deinstall that CS4 to 5.5 mess and get me another license for the full CS5.5 instead of the update from the update...

Finding the Right Peripherals

What is the best peripheral for editing with Final Cut? Not necessarily the most expensive, but most bang for the buck. Possibly Shuttle Pro2 or ShuttleXpress? They've popped up a few times.
Secondly I want to purchase a Final Cut Pro Keyset instead of getting a whole editing keyboard, stickers, or a rubber skin. I did some research but could only find these:

I think you'll find a few people who use the shuttlepro things and love it... some that have it and don't use it... and most of us who just don't have in or desire it.
As for keyboards... unknown (to me).
As for other cool things... what about a video card... what type of media will you be editing? Do you have a deck? A Monitor? Are you doing voice overs at your work station? Do you have a mic? A mixer? Sound-proof closet?
Hey - are you a shooter? Do you have lights? Green screen?
Me? I've got a wacom tablet I can't live without... not so much for FCP - but for all the other stuff I do that ends UP in FCP.

Shuttle Item problem in Apex 3.1.2

Hi
I created application based on shuttle items in apex earlier version.
The same is not working fine in Apex 3.1.2 version.
I'm not doing any process on shuttle items.
Just created a shuttle item contains a list of values.
whenever i refresh the page,(or say when i press Cancel button to go back to previous page)
shuttle item selects all the values in the list, (i.e values in shuttle items are rolling).
I somehow tried to replicate the same application in demo environment :

If you see above application, whenever we press button submit. it selects all the values in
Shuttle (actually rolling in my developement instance and not processing further).

While analyzing the issue on two versions: 3.1.2 & 3.0.x ,I noticed few things:
1) Limitation of 2000 values
Had raised SR with Oracle, They have treated this as bug some time back and have temporary resolution as per BUG ID 7326899.
This got temporarily resolved by setting higher value for PlsqlMaxParameters.
As per my understanding: Shuttles never used to refer to this variable value In earlier version. We are on earlier version on one of the instance, where the value for this parameter is still 2000, and despite having more number of values in shuttles on page it never throws error. That shows its a change in new version and behavior is not same.
2) Looping/ Going through all values in left box and then right box of shuttle when page submits.
I am pretty sure at-least about the visual part that it never happened in earlier version what I see on my application on earlier version. But I am not sure about the page rendering / functionality part as this would need regression testing.
So this is second change in shuttle behavior.
Since Business users need all values to be present in the shuttle even after submit for resubmission i.e. again creating the records, so I have not put yet the java script suggested by you to put restriction on length so that it doesn’t loops through values.

How to populate/persist right-side of Shuttle in apex 3.1.2 after submit

In the new Shuttle I can only specify one LOV (select empname, empid from emp where empid not in (1,3,4)) but I also want to populate the right-side of the shuttle to show values which the non-members (select empname, empid from emp where empid in (2,5)) so that the user can make selections which persist after submit.

The method that worked for me was to:
1) Create the LOV to populate the Left side of the shuttle (unselected).
2) Define the Source property to populate the Right side (selected). In my case, I used a PL/SQL Function Body type, but any would work.
I set the Source Used to Always, so that my user always started with the same default selection, but if you set it to "Only set when session value is null", that should do what you're asking for.

Help!! VGA Ti-4200-VTDX8 (MS-8894) and MB 694D Pro2(MS 6321)?

I have upgraded my VGA with Ti4200-VTD8X (MS-8894) VGA. I'm having trouble getting the VGA to 4x AGP. I have tried changing settings in bios etc, but it ALWAYS run at 2x AGP. My MB 694D Pro2(MS 6321) should work fine at 4x AGP i've been told.
Any suggestions what i can do? Settings in bios/VGA etc?

The software intervideo Winproduser delivred with my VGA board promised MPEG4 video format transferring.
How do i get that to work?`
I'm using Video 8 camera analog. When i import the video i get poor quality what ever option i use importing it. I've tried all option's including AVI, mpeg setting in nVida WDM video capture (universale).
Any suggestions how i can get better quality?

I tried changing my onboard network card from automatic to 10 mpbs half duplex... And it changed the performance alot, now it hardly never lags, but when it lags, it's for like 3 seconds.
The weird thing is that when it lags, it's only movement - I can shoot while it's stuck (weird).

What is the diffrence between K7T266 Pro and Pro2?

What is the diffrence between the pro and the pro 2, besides the pro2 being red and having the link lights. Upto what CPU and what type can the pro 1.0 handle? Also, can it be moded to fit a better cpu? Anyone know?

Pro has the KT266 chipset
Pro2 has the KT266A chipset
KT266A has improvements that increase performance, and the Pro2 can be modified to fit Thoroughbred CPUs.
The Pro (KT266) can only accept up to the Athlon 2000+ palomino. Also, overclocking the FSB disables USB; this was fixed with the KT266A.

Which graphic card upgrade for Mac Pro2,1?

I just bought a Mac Pro2,1 2x3.0 GHz Quad-core with NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT: HP LP3065 - 30" display 2560x1600, where everything is a bit too small.
If I change the resolution at all, even the first choice 2048x1536, everything gets bigger as desired, but a bit fuzzy.
Will a better card allow me to have different resolutions and stay crisp as when at 2560x1600?
I'm not a gamer, filmmaker or doing any rendering or even watching movies. I just want things bigger. I'm a web and graphics designer (72 dpi) and need clarity and crispness.
Apple recommended either the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB or the 8600. But they could tell me if it would solve my issue/needs.
Can anyone recommend one/some. I will spend $400+ or if essential more.

For almost all monitors the maximum resolution is also the "native" resolution. If you use anything besides the "native" resolution your display will look fuzzy or slightly out of focus. This is because the monitor is designed with a certain amount of pixels and when you decrease the resolution (make things look bigger) you're forcing your monitor to artificially make pixels bigger so that fewer pixels fill the entire screen. If the number of pixels isn't even and it can't divide them properly it looks fuzzy. For example, if you can set the resolution to exactly half of the native resolution it won't look nearly as bad. However, setting your 30" monitor to 1280x800 (half of 2560x1600) is going to look HUGE and it would be a big waste of all that screen real estate.
Unlike TV's (where the resolution is basically the same for all sizes) you don't buy a bigger monitor to make things look bigger, you buy a bigger monitor to fit more things on the screen. For some, the unfortunate side effect of this is that things appear "smaller." This happens when the number of pixels increases more than the physical size of the monitor increases. When this happens there are more pixels in a given space, thus the pixels are actually smaller. This is usually desired because a monitor with more pixel density (smaller pixels) will produce sharper looking images.
The fuzziness you described is going to be apparent on all monitors, it's just more noticeable on monitors with higher native resolutions. If you go back to the apple store and look at the 24" you'll see it now that you're looking for it .
It's not a great solution, but you can increase the font size in most programs in the preferences menu, or you can turn on the zoom feature in the Universal Access section of System Preferences.

Shuttle and AJaX

I have an interesting issue to do with population of a shuttle in 3.1 using AJaX. The session state of selected items is what's causing me dramas, details as follows:
The left side of the shuttle is populated according to a series of cascading select lists with an optional 'filter' checkbox on each. So every time the value of a select is changed or a checkbox checked/unchecked the ajax process is fired to repopulate the list accordingly.

This all works perfectly well. I can change my cascading selects, select items, refilter and select other items, the AJaX does its lovely stuff and I've got beautiful process flow. I can have the right-hand side populated from multiple different left-hand lists according to filtering choices.
The problem is when I need to have the selected items remembered in session state. If I navigate away and then return my left-side has retained its session state (it's rebuilt onload from the currently selected cascading select values) but the right-hand side is blank.
I've got a nasty suspicion that the core of the issue is because the left side may no longer have the values that the right-side session state is looking for to mark as 'selected'.
Essentially, what I need is a solution that will 'force' the right-side to have the values previously selected for various filtered choices in the left.
Any thoughts?

I’m assuming that “navigate away” means redirecting from the page (without submitting it). In this case, the session state of the page is not saved, and none of the AJAX components you are using save it either, so you are left with a session state that represent page loading time.
The addParam() method doesn’t save state. You should use the add() method, which do set session state. For example
get.add(' P2_PRODFILTER',$v('P2_PRODFILTER'));This will save the session state for all your select lists. Of course, you will have to change the on-demand process accordingly.
The second thing is to handle the shuttle value. You need to remember that for the APEX engine, a shuttle value is a colon-delimited string. You should generate this value in your on-demand process, and use the APEX_UTIL.SET_SESSION_STATE procedure to save it into session state. If you anticipate that this value will include options that don’t exist on your shuttle left side (left is relative, so let’s say your source column) you should set the LOV option of “Display Extra Values” to Yes.

Null value in OA shuttle bean

Hi,
Can a shuttle have a null value.
ie the VO query attached to the shuttle returns null value.
and whenever we attach that particular shuttle to the page,on clicking on any LOV it gives the error
You are trying to access a page that is no longer active.The referring page may have come from a previous session. Please select Home to proceed.
when I put a where clause to restrict the query (in this case it does not return any null value) I am not getting any error.
Any thought as what could be the issue.Issue is resolved...but would like to know the reason.

Actually, on page 1 itself the parameter value is null. After issueing a commit, the parameter has a correct value but without a commit, the parameter has a null value.

HELP! k7t266 pro2-u winxp install

Hi,
I have a problem with installation of winXP SP1 on my computer. First i got a blue screen in the first step of installation (windows loads drivers, then freezes). It said that acpi.sys is the problem. I disabled it and then the problem was irq not less... . Then i disabled
internal cache, system bios cacheable and shadowing options and installation started but the computer was too slow ( it took about an hour to copy the files on hard disk). After the installation was finished i put back the fields internal cache to writeback and c00 32k shadow to cached and left system bios cacheable on disabled ( i read in the manual that it might be a reason for system hangups) to speed it up. For a while it seemed like it was working ok, i installed the drivers, software... but tomorrow everything up. windows started to freeze when i tried to encode mp3's from audio cd's, when i tried to install new sofware...
I dont know what to do and don't want to disable internal cache because of the huge system slowdown...
Can anyone help !!!

Introduction
I'll waste no time in expressing my opinion on this one: I loved the jog control in previous versions of Premiere, and a small part of my heart died when I realised that those beloved controls couldn't be reinstated in CS6 (though an ever larger chunk died when I realised that Q and W don't work by default in Prelude... ).
JKL is great as a concept, but in practice, not very responsive - it's difficult to make precise jumps in speed quickly, and I'd hate to log footage in CS6 using the JKL keys alone.
It was whilst reading through a different thread on the forums that I had an idea. Why not just jog with the middle mouse button? REAPER uses a similar idea to great effect for scrubbing.
And so the journey began.
Installing/using quickJog
Pre-requisites
Glovepie is only available for Windows. The script, therefore, only works on Windows.
Sorry Mac users.
To use quickJog, you'll need to download the following:
GlovePie, from glovepie.org. Doesn't matter whether you grab the version with or without emotiv support, as long as it's a recent version
The quickJog script, from bit.ly/getQuickJog (unreserved thanks go to Creative Inlet Films for hosting this)
A mouse with a middle-mouse button/clickable scroll wheel
You'll also need to ensure:
The JKL keys have not been re-mapped in Premiere. This is essential, as quickJog 'presses' the JKL keys to alter the jog speed in Premiere.
Installation/usage
Is currently as simple as...
Start Glovepie
From the File menu, select Open...
Navigate to wherever you unzipped the quickJog script. Open it.
Click the Run button
Click the [ .] button at the end of the menu bar to minimise Glovepie to the system tray
To shuttle, click on the program monitor, source monitor or trim monitor, and scroll the mouse wheel. This functionality is built-into Premiere. You can hold Shift for bigger jumps.
To jog, click and hold the middle-mouse button over the source monitor, program monitor, or timeline, and move left or right to increase/decrese the jog speed (just like the old jog slider).
QuickJog tracks the position of the mouse itself, not the position of your mouse cursor, so don't worry about the cursor touching the edge of your screen.
Keep your eyes on the video, not the mouse!
To exit, right-click the glovePie icon, and select Exit.
quickJog works in Prelude too, which is pretty cool.

I stand humbly informed!
In hindsight, I'm not surprised that the JKL keys are a popular choice amongst editors (especially for those who've moved across from other NLEs), but it does rest somewhat uncomfortably in my heart. It feels like Adobe have replaced the pedals and gearstick in my car with a keyboard: not great for those moments when a child runs into the road.
The Shuttle Pro (and Bella to my knowledge?) controllers emulate left/right arrow keypresses to do their work, making the playback 'glitchy' during shuttle operations - I don't like that. I didn't particularly like the feel of the Shuttle Pro when I tried it either. I do like controllers like this (I have one), but have been working for some time on interfacing between the Sony 9-pin protocol and Premiere.
As such, my intermediate preference has been to use a graphics tablet (with a keyboard) for NLE work - hence why having the jog/shuttle controls on screen was so darn useful! Now that I have quickJog mapped to the stylus eraser, edits are much faster.
Quick aside: Huge commendations on just how much can be mapped to keyboard shortcuts in Premiere, huzzah!

Memory module not recognized on K7T266 Pro2

Hello.
I have a computer with only 256 Mb of RAM and I wanted to add 256 Mb but my second memory module of 256 Mo is not recognized whereas it functions very wel.
Here are details :
- Mother board : MSI K7T266 Pro2 (ms-6380 v2.0) with 3 memory slots
- BIOS : Award Modular W6380F1 V3.0 071902
- Memory module of origin : Samsung 256 Mo PC2100 (2 Sides)
- New memory module : Corsair Value 256 Mo PC3200 (1 Side)
Configs Tested :
- Samsung only : OK
- Corsair only : OK
- Samsung in Slot 1 and Corsair in Slot 2 or 3 : the computer starts but with only 256 Mb of RAM (in this config, Everest Ultimate Edition finds both memory modules but also only 256 Mb of RAM)
- Corsair in Slot 1 and Samsung in Slot 2 or 3 : the computer starts with a blank screen and several beeps.
Can somebody help me so that my second memory module is recognized correctly ? I specify that I did not modify the BIOS.

I'm no memory expert, but from being around here I've learned that there is more to a stick of RAM than the MHz speed. If timings etc were perfectly the same for the 3200 and the 2100, the system (the Northbridge) could simply set down memory speed to the slowest of the sticks.
However, I also know that many have been helped by entering BIOS, Advanced Chipset..., and go to the subtitle Memory timings controlled by..., and change from By SPD to By User. Then manually set down to 133 (266 effectively). This is if you absolutely want these two sticks.

K7T266 Pro2 mixing memory ?!?

Hi all,
I am having a problem with mixing memory. The tech. at the computer shop say that a PC2100 and a PC2700 should work whitout problem, so I by one 512MB PC2700 !!!
Here, on my mobo, the memory check pass at boot, but WindowsXP crash when it access the PC2700 memory...
In bios, I set CAS lentacy at 2.5 and force the memory clock to 133MHz...
Note that the PC2700 work fine, alone...
You have idea ? Is PC2100 and PC2700 can be mixted ?

Especially when mixing brands.

Better display values from shuttle LOV in a report

Hi,
I have created a shuttle LOV in a form and then a report that shows (among other things) the values chosen from this shuttle LOV.
If the user choose more than one value I don't like how they get displayed in the report (they have to go into a single cell) because
the user sees a list of items separated by ":" .
Is there a simple way to show them for example as a bullet point list or in some other nicer human readable format?
