As stated in the title. I have installed all the run-times from lv6 to lv8.6, but cannot open any VIs that have been compiled in a more recent version of LabVIEW. We run (on different computers) lv5, lv6.1, and lv8.5. Upgrading some of the older machines is not possible since they cannot handle the required OS.
Is there any way to open a VI created/compiled in a higher version of LabVIEW? This is proving to be a major sticking point with us and our ability to transfer VIs between computers.

I was able to use VI server to invoke LV 6.1 VI's using LV 7.0 without issue.
After discovering this and mentioning it in a post somewhere, Rolf Kalbermatter indicated that was expected. and I should not be suprised.
So....

To the best of knowledge NO.
For each versino of LV there isw code included that runs behind the scenes when you open a VI from an earleir version which replaces old functions with the new versions. This is called Mutation code. To accomplish its task it has to know everything that changed between version X and Y. Since it is possible to baby step the versions up and the number of user that jump multiple major versions is small, I don't think any effort will go into that work.
THe largest attachment I have managed to upload was 3 or 4 Meg.

You can't open FCE projects in FCPX. If you can open a copy in FCP7 and export an XML file.

The appropriate update will update the Folio Builder Panel only. This does not affect the authoring tools, and therefore does not change which version of the viewer is needed. The version which updates the authoring tools has not yet been released. (v.16 is the latest version of the authoring tools)
You are required to update the Folio Builder Panel to continue using it (there's no way around it).

"Folio Producer tools" will update the authoring tools, and requires a corresponding update to the Content Viewer on the back-end. The latest version of the authoring tools available is v.16.
"Folio Builder panel only" will only update the Folio Builder panel itself, and does not require any update to the Content Viewer.

When using the command line and I type a command (for example "man ls") I get the following message:

Then I get man pages in English instead of my language.

I post this just in case someone has the same problem. Finally I was digging into /usr/sare/man and I found that apple just includes translations in man for English, French, Italian, Russian and Polish as you can see in the following listing of files:

fr.UTF-8 man2 man7 pl.ISO8859-2
it man3 man8 pl.UTF-8

I don't know if it is possible to download the spanish translation from somewhere. If someone knows please let me know.

Import of Catalog from Elements 12 into Lightroom 5 not possible

Hi Guys,
I was able to import one of my different Element Catalogue’s.
Now I´m not able to select another one. As described in the help I should see a
Photoshop Elements Catalogue dialog box, but there is no possibility to change the first entry (see picture below).
Then I tested another steps:
a) first open the Elements 12 and select the wished catalog and then opened Lightroom 5 - no change
b) tried to open the pse8db file direct with lightroom 5 program - is possible but no pictures are imported.
So please could you help me?

At this time, Lightroom 5 cannot upgrade PSE 12 catalogs. Perhaps (soon) in a future version of Lightroom this will be possible.
Since I can't see your screen capture, I have no other comments at this time.

Opening LR4.x catalog with LR5.x, without conversion

Here's the problem: I need to open backup catalogs that had been saved with older versions of LR, using my current 5.6 version so I can search for some work that is missing. Once I find it, I can export those photos and work to a small catalog and then import it into my current 5.6 catalog. However the problem is older catalogs cannot be opened with newer versions of LR. The first thing LR wants to do, is convert the catalog and update all the previews. I would have to hide my current 5.6 catalog and previews o they won't be overwritten and wait for all that conversion to occur, for each backup I need to take a peek inside.
Is there a quicker way to view older catalogs to see if specific work and photos are in there, without having to update them first?
(BTW, the problem I have is I'm missing two entire years of photos, probably because LR was using the wrong catalog from the 4.2, 4.3, 4.4, etc versions that had accumulated, so not everything was being kept in one catalog).

Here's what I've found so far.
Multiple versions can be installed at the same time (and I assume will operate independently though I wouldn't go so far as running more than one at a time). However you have to install them in descending order. If 4.3 is installed, then 4.4 it will first delete 4.3. So Install 4.4 first, then 4.3.
Next, is which catalog they open. By default the Windows registry just says "Lightroom" opens the lrcat file, and isn't specific whether it's the LR from the \Lightroom 4.3 directory, or the \Lightroom 4.4 directory, etc. It's also not possible to rightclick the lrcat file and pick Open With, since the versions of LR are not listed individually.
The next bit is just for information since I don`t think this completely solves how to have LR start with a specific cat file.
There is an agprefs file in \Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Preferences\ This is just a text file, so use Notepad to edit this. Near the end is the variable named "libraryToLoad20". Change the text string to name the catalog to be opened, such as Lightroom 4o3 Catalog.lrcat or Lightroom 4o4.lrcat. Don't use a period in the LR version, that might confuse something. As long as the agprefs file is edited first, LR will open the catalog you intend when it starts. I prefer to do this, rather than let it open an inappropriate catalog and then pick Open Catalog after it's started. The problem with this approach, is LR will then create a subdirectory Lightroom 4o3 Catalog Previews.lrdata if it doesn`t exist yet. So although it`s interesting the agprefs file can be ``hacked`` to control which catalog LR starts with, I think I`ll just let it open and then use File, Open Catalog. The only problem may be whether the old backup lrcat file I open, names a specific Previews directory and by now it`s name has changed!

I'm trying to find out if it is possible to open up a pivot excel file inside the a web browser, but i don't want to use Internet Explorer for that i'd prefer firefox for that.
I have a web application that uses an excel file for one of its reports but i don't want the user to have to download the file in order to view the report and that particular report has various ordering criteria so i don't want any of the funtionality of the file to be lost in the process, so is it possible to do it? what tools would help me acomplish that?

I don't think this is possible.
You may be able to make it display in Firefox if the file is defined as the XML Excel format and not the xls or xlsx formats. But that would require saving the file differently and you would most likely loose all/most functionality
You may find some Excel translators in Java (most notably POI from Apache). But they would still require you to adapt them to web format and you would have to duplicate much of the Excel functionality yourself. So it would be a long term option.
You could check out Google Docs. They have a spreadsheet application that I believe can convert Excel files to their format. You may be able to use it inside your web site with permissions.

Not possible to open/create a new connection within BT manager on Satellite M40

Bluetooh manager is open and present in system bar.
However it is never possible to open/create a new connection within bluetooth manager as it always say "bluetooh is not ready". Troubleshooting is required but no clear indication is available; button for wireless link is active and I am able to have wifi internet access at the same time.
It is never possible to open access to a PDA or mobile phone for file transfer through bluetooth.
Do i have to reload completely the bluetooth stack or is there another way to troubleshoot the bluetooh system?

Remove the Bluetooth Monitor software if it is installed. Download the latest BT-stack v5.10.06 here:

How do I get AW to open in English v.6...instead of French v.6?

I use AppleWorks for all of my word processing. I compose documents in English, French, and Norweign (all three language applications are on my computer.) Recently I received an attachment that was written in English (Word), and when I attempted to open the file the French version of AppleWorks opened displaying the contents in French. Since then all of my AppleWorks documents are opening in the French version.
This is the case whether I am double clicking the file in the documents folder or opening from the File>Open selection in AppleWorks.
I have investigated the preferences in Mail and AppleWorks (all three versions) and find no settings to make the English version the default for opening my documents.
Is there someway to correct this without removing the install of French and Norweign versions of 6.v...?

I expect this may have to await a reply from Yvan, who has multiple versions of AppleWorks installed, and switches languages fairly regularly.
Meantime, here's a few questions that may help track down and solve the problem:
What happens if you create and save a new English language AppleWorks document (in your English version of AppleWorks)?
What happens then if (without closing the English file), you use File>Open (in AppleWorks) to open one of the files that's giving you trouble?
When you say "the data appears in French," what do you mean?
When you say "the application reverts to French," what do you mean?
Here are three other things to try:
1.
This is one I just tried, and it did seem to cure a similar issue on my machine where I have both English language versions installed, and double-clicking opens files using the 'wrong' one.
Reset the Open With... setting in Get Info. In the Finder, Click on one of the errant files, then press command-I to Get info. In the Info window, go to the Open With section and, in the popup menu, select Choose... You'll get a dialogue open to the Applications folder. In the folder, select the version of AppleWorks you want to open this file, then click Add. the dialogue window will close, and you'll be back at the Info window. To set the selected AppleWorks version as the default one to open files of this type, click Change all before closing the Info window.

As noted, this one is a general trouble shooting step. Keep it around, even if you don't use it this time.
General problems with AppleWorks (or any application) can often be cured by deleting the preferences files, which are susceptible to corruption. AppleWorks will create new (clean) versions the next time you run it. You’ll find details in Peggy’s User Tips post, AppleWorks has stopped working correctly.
3.
This one looks more drastic than it is, provided you don't empty the trash.
Drag the two non-English AppleWorks 6 folders to the Trash (but don't empty the Trash). Items that are in the trash won't be opened or launched by the OS, so this should force the only version left in the Applications folder (your English version) to launch on double-clicking an AppleWorks file. It may also reset the OS's pointers to default to the English version even after you drag the other two out of the Trash and back to the Applications folder, but I haven't checked that.
