Side-by-side installs

Regarding FrameMaker on Windows XP
Before I install FM 8, I want to know if I can keep FM7.x on there. In other words, can there be two different versions installed on the same computer? And if so, are there any issues I should be aware of.

Yes.
No, unless you count the difference in FM 7 and 8 file formats. Once you open and save a FM 7 file in FM 8, you have to explicitly do a SaveAs back to the FM 7 format to let that version open it.

  • Trying to understand CF side-by-side installations (CF9 and CF11)

    I'm testing my upgrade from CF9 to CF11 on the same server.  Looks like my old CF9 installation was an enterprise, standard, IIS installation.  (if that makes sense to you)  My CF11 is an enterprise, production + secure, stand-alone installation.  It appears that I had to choose the stand-alone installation with internal web server so it can diferentiate between the two Cold Fusions adn do side-by-side installation.  We want to use the internal web server anyhow so we can use the built-in Tomcat server instead of having to install a separate one.  Now  the question has come up, how do I get all of my web pages that are on IIS into my current ColdFusion.  I discovered a document that discusses the Web Server Management.  It looks like I can run it now and it will configure my connection between IIS and ColdFusion.
    https://wikidocs.adobe.com/wiki/display/coldfusionen/Web+Server+Management
    My question is, can this be done while CF9 is still up and running and then it would give me a CF11 ran instance of using the CF webpages  so I can test them and get them to work.    Someone was thinking that IIS wouldn't be able to figure out which CF administrator to use.   Two CF applications cannot use IIS at the same time.  If so, how do I get the two systems to run side-by-side using my CF pages, so I can test if anything broke and needs to be changed in the code,  and/or test any of the new capabilities in CF11?
    Thanks in advance!!

    It can be done, but it is not necessarily for the faint of heart.  I haven't done it in quite some time.  Here are the basics:
    Figure out which ports CF 9 is using.
    Install CF11 using the built-in web server first (don't connect it to IIS).  Make sure CF 11 is not trying to use the same ports as CF 9.
    Run the CF9 Web Server Connection Tool.  See if you have "all sites" configured.  If you do, remove the connector and reinstall individually to the sites you want CF9 to operate.  Make sure your sites operate properly before moving on.
    If you want to have the same site code run under both CF9 and CF11, you'll need to copy the directory of the CF9 site to a new directory for CF11 (e.g.: D:\sites\MySite -> D:\sites\MySite2)
    Run the CF11 Web Server Connection Tool.  Connect your CF11 site (D:\sites\MySite2) to IIS.
    Repeat 4&5 for each site you are parallel testing with CF11.
    I'd do a Google search on "install multiple versions of ColdFusion", as there are several blog articles involving previous versions of ColdFusion.  If you find one that shows CF9 paired with CF10, it should be pretty much the same for CF9 and CF11.
    If it were me, though, I'd spin up a virtual machine, copy the site code in, and install CF11.  I would then do extensive testing, fix code that breaks, then when once I was satisfied CF11 is working fine, copy the code updates back to my production server and do an upgrade install of CF11 to replace CF9.

  • Side by side installation Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010 - CRXIR2 ?

    we are integrating Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010 into our C++ application.
    We used to work with CRXIR2.
    A customer of ours has upgraded to the VS2010 runtime version for 64-bit,
    and seems to be having random crashes.
    We haven't been able to pinpoint the problem...
    They are running several of our applications simultaniously on terminal servers.
    What we noticed is that they did not uninstall CRXIR2 from there system.
    Is this side-by-side installation supported?
    So XIR2 next to Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010  ?
    And even: can you have a Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010  64bit next to a 32bit? Probably yes?
    Next to that: is there any limit of concurrent users (applications) that use the .NET component?
    I would think not...
    Bart

    Hi Bart,
    Side by side installation shouldn't be a problem, unless you had Beta version of CRVS2010 installed on the same machine.
    For better results try upgrading to use SP1 of CRVS2010. For CRVS2010 resources, you can go through this

    I haven't seen any problem with 64bit next to a 32bit til date.

  • SQL 2014 RTM and Sql 2008r2 standard side by side installation ..

    We are planning on reconfiguring our database server and then installing SQL 2008 R2 Standard edition in a side by side installation with SQL 2014 RTM. I have researched a little, and have not seen any major issues when planning this type of configuration.
    Are there any issues that may occur with this?
    2008 R2 will be in the default instance, and 2014 will be using a named instance. We do foresee uninstalling 2008 R2 after a period of time, and moving all of our databases to 2014 after testing has been performed. Once we uninstall 2008 R2, will we be able
    to install a default instance of 2014? Are there any special steps that need to be taken to do that?

    Hello,
    If possible install the SQL Server 2008 R2 instance first, then install SQL Server 2014. Through the years, the formula
    of installing the older versions of SQL Server first has proved to be a winner for me.
    Hope this helps.

  • Azure Tools and Templates Not Installed to VS2012 with VS2013 Side by Side Installation

    I have VS 2012 and VS 2013 Ultimate editions installed side by side and have installed Azure SDK 2.2 followed by 2.3. Until I started using BizTalk Services all my Azure work has been in VS2013.
    Going back to VS2012 for BizTalk Services stuff I soon noted I have no Azure node in Server Explorer and then looked and see that there are no Azure project templates either. I might guess the Azure SDKs just configure the latest VS instance.
    How can I get the Azure SDK to properly config VS2012 when I have VS2013 installed?

  • Opening windows side by side in windows 8 installed using boot camp installer

    I currently have windows 8 installed on my macbook pro (Mountain Lion) using boot camp 4 (updated boot camp drivers on windows 8 to boot camp 5). I wanted to keep skype and wordament app open at the same time side by side, but I was unable to keep the two app windows in this mode (it looks like it allows only one active window. I tried other apps, but none of them worked. I tried the suggestions listed in this link (http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/place-two-windows-side-by-side-in-windows- 8.html), but again this failed. Unfortunately,everything that I tried seems to not work. .  So is this issue with my macbook pro or is it that boot camp does not support it. I would really appreciate it if someone could give me a solution or at least explain to me what is causing this issue..Thanks.

    Then you are more then likely using the Metro Apps that only allow one program on the screen at a time. You need to switch to the Desktop versions of those programs and then you can resize and move the program windows wherever you like on the screen. Side by side, Top and bottom, one high right the other low left, Whatever.

  • What happened? After this morning Firefox's update, I couldn't get into Firefox but got this message, "The application failed to start because it's side-by-side configuration is incorrect.

    This morning I went to go into Firefox, a message came up stating it was updating. After the update, Firefox didn't open, so I clicked on the icon and got this message. C:\Program Files (x86) Mozilla Fire\firefox.exe. The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. I tried removing & re-installing and I even try the Window's restoration point of a couple days back and I still get the message. Has anyone had or have this problem?

  • How to configure Click-to-Run version of Outlook 2013 to run side-by-side with Outlook 2007 or Outlook 2010

    Hi, I am administering a cutover from Office Pro 2010 to Office Pro 2013 via our Office 365 E3 licenses. Before I start migrating mailboxes from our Exchange 2003 server to Exchange Online, I want to have our staff install Office Pro 2013 including Outlook
    2013 so they can have time to review it before we switch to the Exchange Online server in a couple of days. I know Outlook 2013 is not compatible with our Exchange 2003 server but I was hoping to be able to setup Outlook 2013 to connect to my Office 365 email
    address while keeping my msi installed version of Outlook 2010 for my Exchange 2003 email address.
    I am trying to test the capability of Outlook 2013 running side-by-side with my Outlook 2010 program. I have the "Click-to-Run" version installed on my Windows 7 64-bit machine however when I try to open Outlook 2013, I get an error message: "Another
    version of Outlook is currently running. Close it and try again."
    In reading in TechNet and other sources, it clearly states that both programs can run simultaneously which is what I need to do
    but obviously something is not configured correctly.
    Can you please help me get this configuration running or let me know if it is in fact not possible?
    Thanks!
    Frank

    Yes, it should be able to install side by side.
    The versions of Office that you install must be the same edition. For example, both installations of Office are the 32-bit edition.
    When you get the error
    "Another version of Outlook is currently running. Close it and try again.", go to task manager and end all existing
    outlook process.
    If the issue persists, do a repair for your Office suites in Control panel>Program and features>Office>Change>Repair

  • Creating table, two cells side by side but alignment in one cell throws off the other!

    Hello,
    I have a website that I am trying to display a table with two columns side by side and one column at the bottom.
    so I use the following:
    <table>
    <tr>
    <td></td>
    <td></td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
    <td></td>
    </tr>
    </table>
    My problem is that I can't get the alignment to work right wit the first two <td> columsn that are side by side.  i put text in both and an image but it doens't align properly even without the image. Every time press <return> it adjust the alignment in the other column. as you can see below, it doesn't align correctly. I can't get it to work right.  images don't align, button doens't align, and the text on top doesn't align either.
    If I press <return> in the right column at the bottom, then it moves the left column down and still doesn't align (auugh!)

    Tables work that way, that's why CSS styling is preferred for layouts.

  • "Side-by-side configuration is incorrect" when trying to install MS DirSync tool

    Apologies if this is the wrong thread, but it seems like every thread is the wrong thread for this one :)  Yes, I've checked all the other "side-by-side configuration" threads, but none of them seems to apply to this case.
    I have a SBS 2012 machine, acting as DC, AD DS and DNS, and our organization has recently signed up for Office 365 Online E1, and we've migrated our mail there.  Everything is set up, but now I'd like to sync our AD with MS Online.  I enabled directory
    sync in the admin user and group controls on the Office 365 site and as per instructions, I downloaded the latest version of DirSync from here:http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/18429.microsoft-azure-active-directory-sync-tool-version-release-history.aspx.
    However, when I try to install it on the server, I get this error message:  "The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please run sxtrace or see the application event log for more detail."
    Sxtrace gives the following results:
    =================
    Begin Activation Context Generation.
    Input Parameter:
    Flags = 0
    ProcessorArchitecture = AMD64
    CultureFallBacks = en-US;en

    ERROR: Line 0: XML Syntax error.
    ERROR: Activation Context generation failed.
    End Activation Context Generation.
    Things I've tried:
    Other posts seem to indicate that it's often an issue with missing visual C++ libraries, but I installed both the 2008 and 2010 C redistributables for x86 and x64, and nothing has changed.
    One solution for a similar message had a typographical error in an xml configuration file, however in this case the "Application config file" field is blank.
    As several other (non TN threads) around the 'net recommend, I ran SFC.  It appears to work for others with the same error message.  It fixed some issues and spit out a huge log file, but the problem persists, and I don't know where in the log
    file to look, assuming anything in there is relevant (the file is over 700kb, so I'm not going to start spamming big chunks of it just yet unless I know what to look for).
    The problem seems to come up in the context of software development (another thread on this subject is about the user developing an application from scratch) but I have no background in software dev, and this is supposed to be an official tool from Microsoft,
    for crying out loud, not some homebrew thing I'm putting together.
    This one issue is keeping us from moving ahead with our entire plan for user access, so any help would be
    much appreciated. Thanks!!!

    Hi NickDeNora,
    According to your description, we need to verify if you install
    Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) and
    correct the manifest file. The manifest file is readable (although empty), but we cannot edit it (even if you are an administrator). Only SYSTEM has access to the file. So to be able to edit it, you must first take ownership of
    it and grant ACLs. After saving the file, then run the setup again.

  • Crystal reports 7 and 9 (side by side)

    Good morning everyone:
    We have and old VB6 application that uses CR7 in one PC. We built a Windows .Net app that uses CR9. When installing the .net application, some of the CR7 dlls were replaced with the CR9 version (same names). This caused the VB6 app to stop working (because its dlls were not found anymore).
    Is there anyway to allow CR7 and CR9 to live side by side? I mean, I would like both of my apps (.net and VB6) to work on the same client machine...
    Thanks for any tips or help!

    Hello,
    No, CR 7 did not support side by side installs. That didn't happen until CR 9 and above, meaning CR 9 and older can not be on the same PC.
    You may be able to work around it though but I've never tried it, copy ALL of the dll's from \windows\crystal into the application folder and change the working folder in the Icon to the app folder where the EXE is. I doubt it will work worth a try.
    Thank you
    Don

    Hello,
    I saw a related thread from here:
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/15130609/visual-studio-2012-side-by-side-configuration-is-incorrect
    The dll in that thread is different from there but I think you can still try the solution listed there to repair your VS installation.
    May I clarify some questions? Can you use Visual Studio before you get this error? Is it the first time you installed Visual Studio and when you try to open it it reports this error for you?
    If you can use Visual Studio before you get this error, please try repair Visual Studio from control panel.
    If you cannot use Visual Studio even when it is the first time to load, then it is a corrput installtion problem. Please remove the current installation:
    http://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2771441 Then download and verify the ISO:https://www.visualstudio.com/en-us/downloads/visual-studio-2013-iso-sha1-vs
    And restart the installtion with a healthy ISO.
    Anyway, in my mind refer to the first stackoverflow thread and repair the installtion to fix this missing dll problem is more reasonable.
    Best regards,
    Barry

  • Crystal Reports Server 2008 side-by-side CRSXIR2 install fails.

    Same symptoms as indicated in the first post here - https://forums.sdn.sap.com/click.jspa?searchID=18373470&messageID=6253019
    Install of CRS2008 was flawless on a clean VM copy of our development server.  So when the go ahead was given to do further testing on our dev server, we went ahead and installed CRS2008 as a side-by-side installation of our CRSXI R2 SP3 (v 11.5.9.1076).  CRSXI installation runs on Websphere, but in CRS2008 we are migrating to Tomcat.  All install ports were set differently than our current XI installation.  Install completed just fine, but we were unable to access the CMC.  CCM indicated at first TOMCAT and SIA were up and running.  Our XI server still works fine.  I attempted to uninstall CRS2008 and reinstall, however, the uninstall errored out and "rolled back" the uninstallation.
    Now CCM is blank and repair of CRS2008 fails.  Is there a way to manually uninstall CRS2008 so that we can move forward with our upgrade via fresh install?

    Hi
    do you install using a user, who is member of the local administrators group?

  • Getting a side by side configuration error after installing obiee 10.1.3.4.

    Hi, I have installed obiee 10.1.3.4.2 version over my windows 7 desktop. After installation, when tried with opening the admin tool, i'm getting a side by side configuration error. Please help what to do to overcome this

    Go through the Doc id 1067138.1 at Metalink below is the extract.
    The following procedure must be done by a UNIX administrator or by an Oracle BI Administrator with sufficient privileges.
    To download Oracle BI installation files under UNIX:
       1. Log in as the user who is to run the Oracle BI processes.
       2. Insert the Oracle Business Intelligence infrastructure installation DVD.
       3. Change to the directory where the installation DVD is mounted (or change directory to the downloaded software).
       4. Download the Oracle BI files by using FTP to copy them to the desired server and directory.
          Note: Make sure to FTP all the files in binary mode, including license.xml.
       5. After the files are downloaded, check that the files in the top level directory, such as setup.sh, have execute permissions.
          execute the command: ls -la or ls -ltr
          Confirm that the files have permissions resembling these:
          -rwxr-xr-x 1 oracle dba 6395 Aug 9 22:11 license.xml
          -rwxr-xr-x 1 oracle dba 657328 Aug 9 22:10 Solaris.bin
          -rw-r--r-- 1 oracle dba 12 Aug 9 22:04 media.inf
          drwxr-xr-x 3 oracle dba 4096 Aug 9 22:11 script
          -rw-r--r-- 1 oracle dba 501194022 Aug 9 22:10 setup.jar
