Side effects of water damage

I dropped my iPhone in the sink and I blow dried it but it still won't turn on, will it ever work again.... I'm nervous because I know water damage is not covered in the warranty...

No way to know.
You should not try to trun it on or charge it until it has dried for a week or so.
Turning it on while it still has moisture in it will likely kill it.

  • Can water damage take days to show effects?

Long story short, my water bottle leaked and splashed slightly onto my friends MBP. We wiped it off immediatly, flipped it upside down and NO water came out of the keys. Not even a drop. The compter worked perfectly normal for almost two days after that. Then, apparantly it decided to not turn on. It gets stuck at the loading screen each time it is turned on. My friend insists this is from the water damage and wants me to replace it, but could it really take TWO days for water damage to take affect? Thanks!

Absolutely 100% yes is the answer to that
I used to repair laptops, and usually after a very mild spill its almost clockwork between 4day to 10days max MOST will exibit minor to horrible damage.
Contact Apple for full in shop inspection and repair.

Actually the keyboard acts like a one-way valve in liquid spills,....it goes in, but upside down it does NOT come out, this is a fact

  • If I'm already paying 149.99 to replace my water damaged Iphone 4 can I pay the Iphone 4s replacement price and get that instead? If No explain why please . Thank you

I have a water damaged Iphone 4 I have had for only 8 months. Today I went to the apple store to see how much a replacement was and the girl told me 149.99 for my iphone. What I was wondering is can i pay the replacment cost of an Iphone 4s and get that instead . I dont see the problem since my phone is broken anyways . But I would like to hearf if any one has tried the same thing.
    Thanks

The only exception would be if there were no like models available.  There was a short period when there were not sufficient supplies of the 3gs to effect warranty replacements.  In that case, they replaced the 3GS with a 4 at no additional charge.  But the warranty fine print specifies that they will repair or replace the device, at their discresion.

  • What are the signs of water damage to my macbook pro

my boyfriend set everything in the back of the truck, including my laptop, while he was cleaning out the inside. when finished he put everything back in the truck, and drove through a carwash. unfortunately, my laptop was in its black sleeve and blended in, getting left in the bed of the truck. it was in a protective sleeve and had a smartshell case on it. both are not the best protection though, especially against water. he claims the computer was dry when he took it out of everything but i dont see how thats possible. though i am currently using it, and i havent noticed any signs of damage, what are the chances the laptop has damage that will take effect later? its been a month already. but i dont want to open it one day and everythings erased or something. im only thinking about it again because every time i click an icon, it jumps to another desktop. thats only been happening today. are there any warning signs i can look for so i can fix it before it gets really bad?

Any anomalies should make you suspect that you suffered some type of water damage. Because liquid damage can take many routes, as corrosion begins to set it, you may not know that damage has occurred until strange things start happening with your system.
Probably the best thing you can do, since an anomaly has presented itself, is to take your machine into an Apple Store or an AASP for a free diagnosis. If they notice that the liquid sensors have been activated, they will let you know.
    Good luck,

  • Power trouble/backlight/invertor/water damage (MacBook Black late 2006)

So tucking my girlfriend into bed I spilled water onto her closed (black) macbook late model 2006. Unfortunately it was turned on without drying (it initially seemed that the water didn't really get anywhere other than the top case. First and it initially worked. Then the battery displayed an (X) as opposed to a 0 percent charge which i believe indicates replacement. Then the computer would only turn on for a moment before going quickly to sleep. I dissembled the computer and air cleaned it and let it dry for a few weeks. Hard drive was not damaged, all data was recovered.
Reassembled the computer, did not notice any water damage. Computer itinitally powers up and then sleeps after 20seconds. Magsafe adapter radomly shows green, or orange, or nothing at all. Replaced Dc/in board with no change. Tried running without battery, no change. Used alternate magsafe adapter, no change. Tried reset SMC with no change. Also tried running without optical drive as this had been having issues, nothing.
As a side note, the screen is dark as if the backlight inverter is out. Could the water have shorted the inverter and cause this problem? Would a faulty heatsink cause any of these issues? Do I even need to try replacing the battery, shouldn't it be able to run without?
Thanks so much for any guidance.

My advice is to take it into an Apple Store and have a genius check it out. There is always a chance that water got into it; it could also just be a need of a new battery.

  • Slight water damage to iphone 6

hey! So today my phone had gotten some water on it. I dried it off and shook the phone carefully to get rid of water. Well now when people call me i can only answer their calls and speak to them on speaker phone. Also if my phone is on ringer mode it doesnt ring nor do my buttons click like usually. When i adjust volume on the side of my phone it says im adjusting the headphone volume? :-| super upset with myself. I dont have insurance for the phone. Does this mean i have to go buy a whole new phone??
    Thank you!!

You can check with Apple, they used to have a replacement program for out of warranty phones. It will be cheaper than buying new. They may be able to repair the phone but usually not water damage, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

  • MacBook Pro Retina, left in bag in the rain. Can I check for water damage?

    Hey all,
Today, while my laptop was in its sleeve in my bag, it started to rain quite heavily. My bag was exposed to the rain for maybe 15-25 minutes and the contents of my bag weren't too wet, however I noticed that there was a late patch of water on the corner of my sleeve. My MacBook Pro was in sleep and the lid was closed but after inspecting my MacBook Pro I found water to have been wedged between my mac and my plastic case I have on it on both the top and bottom as well as some on the black hinge connecting the body to the display and very little on the display side itself. My MacBook Pro woke from sleep fine but I switched it off anyway.
After drying drying my laptop and using a hair dryer to dry within the ports and vents in case , it is now currently drying. I don't want to switch it on in case there is water damage and it might short circuit.
My question is, is there a way I can check for water damage and what should I do now before I switch it on?

Did you take off the bottom panel?  If not do so.
Make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar and have them inspect it.  The evaluation will be FREE and they are in the best position to attack the issue.
    Ciao.

  • What are the sign to look for if you think the macbkpro has water damage???

I had a small amoung of water soak throught my case, were the water reached the corner of the top side were the back of the computer is when it is open and want to know what the signs of water damage are so that I can look for them, only about 3/2.5 inches was with water of this corner. Would I have probelems right away if it was water damage????help please

"only about 3/2.5 inches was with water of this corner.?
How much is that in plain speak?
    Spill Cleaning
And, don't think that just because it was two teaspoons and not a glassful that there is a difference.
Some liquid has just spilled into your Mac. What should you do?
    Do
Immediately shut down the computer and unplug the power cord.
Remove the computer's battery (if you can)
Disconnect any peripherals (printers, iPods, scanners, cameras, etc.)
Lay the computer upside down on paper towels to get as much liquid as possible to drip out.
Note what was spilled on your Mac.
Bring the computer into an Apple store or AASP as soon as possible.
    Don't
Don't try to turn it back on. Liquids can help electrical current move about the components of your Mac in destructive ways.
Don't shake the computer (this will only spread the liquid around).
Don't use a hair dryer on it (even at a low setting a hair dryer will damage sensitive components).
Do not put in a bag of rice in as much as rice will get into the ports and optical drive and do further damage.

  • When I come from outside and press the home button to turn my iPod on, there is white, light blue and red lines but it is transparent enough that I can see my background, time, etc. It hasn't been water damaged, so that cant be the problem.

When I come from outside and press the home button to turn my iPod on, there is white, light blue and red lines but it is transparent enough that I can see my background, time, etc. It hasn't been water damaged, so that can't be the problem. I was thinking maybe it is just because of the cold but, I don't like having my iPod doing that whenever I come back from the cold. However, I was in class too and this problem happened but it was inside! So I am very worried, I have dropped my ipod a few times but it hasn't fallen that hard to effect it.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Can you restore the data from an iPhone 6 if it has water damage?

i want to know if i can get all the data that was on my iPhone 6 that has water damage.

No way to tell until you try. If the water damage was severe enough
to prevent the iPhone from starting up, then the answer is effectively no
    (see next paragraph).
Companies specializing in data recovery may - emphasis on may - be
able to recover some data. Attempts are very very expensive and there are
no guarantees. Google/Bing/Yahoo/etc should assist in locating such companies.
Have you failed to backup your iPhone or sync it to iCloud?

  • Well I'm sure you heard this many times but.....Water Damage---Lots to Read

I recently dropped my Ipod Touch(2nd Gen.) in the toilet, boy did I freak out anyway, I put it in a bowl of rice and stuff but now the Sleep/Wake button doesn't work right neither does home button and the Right side of the screen (last strip) is "dead". I tried to look to see if the water senors were turned to pink or red but I didnt see anything? I see no pink or red where you put USB plug and with the Headphone jack I see to little red squares and in the middle a white one, at the time of the accident the headphones were in and a case was around. So is there anyway Apple will repair my ipod or send me a new/refurb. one? Can I take it to a store to get a new one? I got it for Christmas and it still has the 1 year warranty.

Obviously water damage ( or any damage) is not covered by the warranty.
You can make an appointment at the genius bar and see what they can do and what it will cost.

  • How much does it cost to fix water damage to a brand new MacBook Pro?

I think I may have water damage to a very new MacBook Pro. After the incident, it was dried and taken directly to the computer store. The computer store is drying it more under special lamps for the next few days. They won't get to look at it for about six days so it will remain off until then. There is 2yr MacBook Care Warranty and the macbook is less than 2months old. If the sensor shows there is water damage- will the warranty be void? Will the 250 just spent for the warranty be lost? How much will it cost to fix damage if there is damage found? Thank you.

My understanding is that the Apple care for Mac is a 36 months care plan which covers internal manufactured service parts i.e. Failed logic board burst LCD screen or damaged battery .
Water/liquid damage falls under accidental damage so in this case your mac would not be covered.
Most Macs have a metal plate underneath the keyboard to stop water filtering through to the Logic board which are neck bracingly expensive to replace.
My advice would be to take your mac into an apple store so the technicians can identify what the liquid damage has effected from which they will be able to give you a quote as to how much its going to cost fix the issue or replace the part.

  • MacBook original(2008) won't start after water damage

Hi guys, my macbook originial (2009) won't start because of I think water damage. I was on a plane and I found my backpack was wet be ause of my leaking water bottle. I immediately took out everything. My iPad,the MacBook and all the chargers and whatnot. The water touched the left side of the macbook (the USB side) including the MagSafe port. So I wiped it and left it to dry for about 36 hours. When I got to my house, I checked the iPad and it was ok and so was its charger. I tried to connect the MagSafe but it shows a dim light which means its not charging. So I decided to clean the connections and tried again but no luck.  I got once lucky by reconnecting multiple times till it started and it's fans were blowing like ****. Everything was normal then I saw the battery icon. It said batteries not available. Powered by power cord. Then I went out for a while and when I came back the macbook was switched off by my brother. So what can I do now?
Sorry but I live in Malaysia so there is no genius bar :(
    Any help will be appreciated!

  • IPhone 4 water damage. Able to turn on, charge, connect to wifi. TMobile scoped it and indicated that it had slight water damage (slight bit of red). How can I honestly sell this on eBay if it seems to be functioning properly (as far as I can tell)?

    Hello,
My iPhone 4 had been in water for about 3 seconds. It had powered on later on that day. I am able to charge it. It has since been wiped out because I have purchased an iPhone 5c from tMobile and transferred everything to my new phone. TMobile had scoped it and it indicated slight water damage (slight red mark). I would like to sell it on eBay--but don't really know how to list it. My guess is to list it under "For Parts Or Not Working" to be on the safe side. Any thoughts/ideas will be greatly appreciated.

I would agree that you may want to list as not working. It is anybody's guess as to how long it will work even with minimal water damage. Water and electronics do not mix well.

You need to take to a local repair store to have it repaired.
Sorry to say this is a bad answer. Water damaged devices generally short circuit the MLB first. Sea water containing salt will be worse since salt is a good conductor of electricity, meaning, electronic components other than the MLB, if not replaced, may cause shorts and eventually brick the device or pose other severe risks, like an exploding battery.
I'm not sure what you refer to as 'local repair store' but Apple does not repair liquid damaged devices for the above reasons. Under no circumstance will I advice this. The only (official) option is a replacement and for good reason.
