Sidebar icons

I can't change the 'my computer' icon.
Getting info I find that i can only read information.
There is something I have to do before select a new icon?
I tried with standard method but it doesn't work.

I'm my Mac amministrator and I can change HDD icon every time I want. My question is focused only on the "Mac" icon. Actually when I loock at the information of this icon i see this informations:
1)the icon of an iMac G4
2)folder name "computer of sqoiattolo"
3)"you can only read"
thank you for attention.

  • Calendar in Yosemite does not comply to Sidebar icon size setting?

The icon size and the font size in the sidebar of System apps can be set in
System Prefs => General => Sidebar icon size
The Finder of OS X 10.10 does react to this setting, Mail.app does and in Mavericks also Calendar.app did.
On my MBP running Yosemite, Calendar v8.0 always shows quite large icons and a large font in the sidebar.
Is this a problem of my installation, or is it "normal"?
There are other problems of the Calendar sidebar, for example I am unable to enlarge the sidebar to show longer names of individual calendars.

If you want the calendar entries that you create on the phone to sync with the gmail, you need to create the entry in the gmail calendar on the phone.  If you create it in the phone calendar, it is only on the phone.
Usually at the very top of the new event entry you have a choice of which calendar to create this event in.  Either Phone, gmail or any other option you have synced to your phone.  To get it to sync to the gmail calendar you need to select the gmail calender.

  • Sidebar icons: can they be changed?

I've added .Trash to my Finder sidebar so I can drag items to the trash.
I would like to change the blue folder icon to a Trash bin (and wouldn't mind changing the other sidebar icons as well).
Is it possible to change them? And if so, how?
    Thanks!
(I own CandyBar, but not sure it allows you to change an individual folder icon).

The items in the Sidebar are aliases to the original item. If the original item has a custom icon that icon will be displayed in the Sidebar when you drag the item there. You can use GetInfo to change individual folder icons. Find something that has an icon you like, do GetInfo on it, click the wee little icon at the top to select it (a very faint blue line appears when the icon is selected), and select Copy. Then do GetInfo on the folder you want to have the new icon, select the wee little generic folder icon at the top, and Paste.

  • Why do the sidebar icons not have colors, etc?

Why do the sidebar icons with Lion not have colors, etc? I customized my icons so I can quickly recognize folders. This is a very significant loss as far as I am concerned. Any solutions or news about rectifying this?

All anyone here can say is "because that's what Apple decided". Whether this will ever change we can't say, being just your fellow users in these forums. You can comment to Apple via their feedback page, if you wish:

  • Sidebar Icons Displaying Incorrectly

I recently used LiteIcon to change how my folder icons look (because the oversaturated blue folders in Yosemite are ugly, in my opinion) and in the process, it messed up my sidebar icons. They now look like this:
When they used to look like this:
I did this one time before I updated LiteIcon and it did the exact same thing but I thought they would've fixed this since the update. Does anyone know how to fix this? It's driving me up the walls every time I open my finder.

Well ... my sidebar is labeled "Audio CD" instead of "Macintosh HD" under Yosemite ... is this an easter egg?

  • 10.7.5 update, sidebar icons appear as folders now

I just upgraded to 10.7.5, and since then, most of my sidebar icons are simply folders. I do have SIMBL installed, and if I relaunch the finder, the icons sometimes go back to normal for a moment, but then they become folders again:
Has anyone seen this before? And does anyone know of a way to get the regular icons (either colored or uncolored) back? I tried deleting all the Finder preferences files.
    Thanks,
    David

I can do that, and, the icons show up as folders there, too, although I think they're supposed to there. I'm talking about on the sidebar, where they should normally look like one of these and they don't.

  • Sidebar icons missing

Okay, after upgrading to Mountain Lion, I found my Sidebar has no icons at all. Just the words you can click on to navigate.
    I thought-corrupted plist file.
So I went to Macintosh HD\Users\Troy\Lbrary\Preferences and low and behold, no com.apple.sidebar.plist.  There is a com.apple.sidebarlists.plist so I trashed that, emptied the Trash, restarted.
    Still no sidebar icons.
    Ideas?

Delete these 2 folders then, voila!! it worked for me!
STEP 1 : 위의 SIMBL 경로 안에 있는 ColorfulSidebar.bundle 을 Delete합니다.
    [Main HDD] / Library / Application Support / SIMBL / Plugins / ColorfulSidebar.bundle
STEP 2 : 아래 경로 내에 있는 com.colorsidebar.root.plist 파일을 Delete합니다.
    Users/[본인 계정 이름]/Library/LaunchAgents/  or [Main HDD]/Library/LaunchAgents/
    STEP 3 : restart.

  • Sidebar icons (make bigger)

Is there a way to make all the icons on sidebar bigger? they see just a little bit small to me. I appreciate your help.

  • Sidebar Icons on different folders

Okay, I'll try to be as brief as possible.  I recently installed a PCI express SSD into my MacPro 3,1 to hold all system files and applications. I have kept my music, movies, documents, etc, on a separate platter drive.  When I moves those folders into the sidebar, however, they just show up as a generic folder.
Is there a way to apply the more ornate sidebar icons to these folders?  I have done the Get Info/Copy/Paste to the folders themselves, but when placed into the sidebar, they do not show up.
    Thanks in advance.

Unforunately it's one way or the other, sorry bud

  • Gray Sidebar Icons, Slow Application File Open/Save in OS-X 10.7

I hate the gray sidebar icons in Mac OS-X. I am a very visual person and every clue, including color, helps. I don't understand why Apple has found it necessary to take a giant step backward in time. Perhaps soon they will reintroduce black and white monitors.
Anyway, I downloaded a pluging that restores colors to the finder windows, but not the application file open/save dialogs. Also, many times the application open/save dialog windows are slow to load the sidebar window; i.e. I can't do anything until they load the the folders, files, and devices available to open.
Does anyone have a fix for this? Does anyone know if Apple plans to restore colored icons?
    Thanks - Bill

    Try rebuilding Finder prefs....
Go to your Finder "Go" menu hold the option key and choose Library. Then go to Preferences folder and trash these files:
    com.apple.finder.plist
    com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
Then, restart, or log out and in again.
(You will have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.)
EDIT: Could it be whatever app you're using for the FInder windows that's causing that slowness?

  • Apple Simply MUST Change Sidebar Icons

    They're simply idiotic.
On balance I quite like many of Lion's new features, but the new sidebar icons are one of the worst examples of form over function that I've ever seen.
I'm sure we all associated the colour with the icons: desktop - purple, downloads - green etc.
I mean, what's the point of having a blazingly fast computer if you can't find what you're looking for quickly? And if my sight were in any way impaired I guess I'd be totally scr@wed.
My money's on apple bringing back the colour icons (or some colour implementation) in the first update, but it seems beyond belief that someone at apple actually thought this was a good idea, and signed it off.

The colors and custom icons aren't just for pretty. They help with quick navigation to those folder.
Give us a way to bring back custom folders.
Plus, the low contrast versions of Apple folders are hard for us old people to see.
Apple, when I work, I'm tearing through a dozen apps, three dozen open files, and six dozen folders. Then there are the constant interruptions from other poeple to deal with, so anything to help get there and back faster is a huge plus.
Don't take things away from me that help me organize based on current use! That the sidebar is visible in open-save dialogs helps me a lot, but this mass of indistinguishable grey helps not.

  • After upgrading to ML, finder sidebar icons disappeared

How can I get Finder sidebar icons to appear after upgrading to Mountain Lion on both late 2009 Mini nad 13" MBA (mid 2011)?

Select Preferences from the Finder's Finder menu. Click on the Sidebar icon in the toolbar. Check the boxes for what you want displayed.
If you aren't seeing a sidebar then select Show Sidebar from the Finder's View menu.

  • How do I get the colors back in Itunes 12 sidebar icons

Hi. I have a hard time getting used to every new itunes version with the user interface getting harder and less friendly than the previous version, probably since itunes 8 or so. I NEED colorful icons to be able to differentiate what is what in the sidebar, and I have always found a work around, since they dropped the much loved colors, in exchange for increasingly monochrome, drab Gray. There is no differentiation even in the grey, no bold letters for titles, headings, album names etc.   In  iTunes 12 however I tried changing the itunes.rsrc file in this version and it really messed my itunes up, to the point where I had to trash it and start all over with new itunes. Does anyone know how to bring the colorful icons back in iTunes 12? This is ONE of the problems, search is not working right for me either for itunes 11 or 12. I would love it if Apple could give us the option of using old Itunes, such as 8 or something similar where everything was more clearly defined and intuitive, at least for me. Thanks!

PS I am using OSX 10.9.5

  • Trying to find the sidebar icons

I'm in the process of replacing the folders in my home (the blue on blue all look too similar to me), but I haven't found icons I like for music and movies that look better than the ones in the sidebar (and when I replace the blue folder image it replaces the sidebar as well, even though they are different). I guess it would be ideal to replace the blue folders with what's in the sidebar, but when you open the sidebar in Get Info you see the blue folder. Does anyone know where I can find the images used in the sidebar?

Ya I was going to call them tomorrow but I wanted to play it tonight lol :)
But it had color pencils and crayons on the left side of it.. It would show the tips of the colors pencils and you could scroll up and down to choose color..
Thanks for your help tho :)
