Sidebar in safari?

IIs there any way to hide the sidebar in Safari in ios 8.  On my iPad 3, I feel it takes up too much room.

In landscape orientation:Tap on the Bookmarks icon (the same one you used to open it, just to the left of the address field).
In portrait orientation it will auto hide.

  • Access to Preview Sidebar in Safari?

Occasionally, the PDF docs I view online contain links to other PDF docs (a Table of Contents, for example). These docs open directly in Safari rather than Preview and, as such, allow limited PDF controls (zoom, open in Preview, save to Downloads).
But to be at all useful, I need access to the Preview Sidebar. This would allow me to select linked PDF files, such as might be found in a Table of Contents.
Is it possible to access the Preview Sidebar when viewing PDF files from within Safari, or must I resort to selecting a different PDF Reader as my default application - Adobe Reader, for example, where all PDF controls are available from within Safari when viewing a PDF file?
    Thanks for your thoughts...

As far as I know, you can't view the PDF sidebar within Safari. +(Edit: Actually, you do get a sidebard when you use Adobe Reader to "display PDF in browser" instead of Preview, as you suggest in your post.)+
But if it helps, you can choose to download a PDF file instead of viewing it in Safari, and then open it in Preview or Acrobat Reader. Control-click (or right-click) on the link to the PDF and choose the option to download it, or if it's already open you can just save it. Then double-click on the file's icon in Safari's downloads window to open it in your default PDF reader.
Apologies if you already knew that. I've always done the above because I find PDF files easier to handle in a real PDF reader rather than a web browser. But I don't mind allowing PDFs to open in Safari by default, for quick viewing when I don't need all of the usual controls.

  • Close sidebar in Safari

How to close the sidebar in Safari?

That answers the question but its so unintuitive!!!
I spent like 2 minutes trying different finger movements expecting that had been written in. with two fingers you could just slide in or out. Much better no? oh well...

  • Sidebar in Safari (and Chrome)

    I know, I know -- it's a funny request, but:
Is there a way to get a sidebar holding bookmarks and history on either Safari or Chrome? I've seen it on Firefox, but FF is slow, slow, slow.
I use quite a few websites really frequently, so it would be useful to be able to hit a link to each quickly.
I find the 'bookmark bars' along the tops of browsers are useless: you either only get a few bookmarks visible on them, or you have to start creating drop down folders and all sorts.
    Cheers,
    Jonathan.

    HI,
Click the Bookmarks icon top left in the Safari window.

  • How do i add a google sidebar in safari?

How do I add a Google sidebar next to the address bar in Safari?
    Please help
    Daniel

    Danielson --
You can't.  In Mountain Lion, there is now a "uni-bar,"  You can put search terms, or a URL in there.
I didn't like it either, in the beginning, but now I'm used to it.

  • Is anybody happy with the sidebar in Safari?

Safari now has a side bar that LOOKS JUST LIKE THE MAIL SIDEBAR.    I find myself pausing to figure out whether I'm in Safari or in Mail.  This makes me very unhappy.

Hide the sidebar. View in menu and choose show or hide sidebar. You can customize the toolbar with an icon to show or hide it as you need to.

  • Sidebar missing in Safari?

    Hello
Is it possible in Safari to have the Bookmark Collections Window open next to the Browser Window, I think of a Sidebare like in Firefox?
    Thanks for your answers.
    Simon

    Hi Simon
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
There is no sidebar for Safari for Bookmarks similiar to Firefox. With Safari 3.0 on the way (OS X Leopard debut),you may want to send feedback to Apple about incorporating such a feature into Safari.

  • No favicon showing in Safari 8.0 sidebar

Although I love Yosemite a bunch, I have one problem with Safari 8.0. As a visually impaired guy, I find it extremely useful to see the colored favicons in the sidebar of Safari under Mavericks. Now they have disappeared, and are replaced by a generic bookmark symbol. Is there any way at all to get back the old look? It has become so difficult for me to find sites with this new version. Perhaps a third-party plugin exists or I just missed something in the preferences. Although I love and use VoiceOver for much of my work, this is little help in searching the sidebar.

Try dragging your mouse over were it once was, on my MacBook Pro-Safari it appears only cursor hovering over. Not a "Fix" just a suggestion

  • Show Top Sites and webpage at same time - Safari 8, Yosemite

After upgrading to Yosemite and Safari 8 I can't have the Show Top Sites/Reading List sidebar open anymore while I'm surfing the web. Every time I click on the sidebar it go to the Top Sites page. Is there any way to have the sidebar in Safari 8 work like it did in Mavericks where I could keep it open at all times, no matter what page I'm on? I have a 30 inch monitor so screen real estate isn't a problem for me. I'd much rather have all my bookmarks visible to me on the left side of Safari at all times rather than have to click on a folder and open them that way.
I don't want workaround like, "Use the Bookmarks bar." either. I have lots of Bookmarks and many of them are better suited in a folder and the Bookmarks bar hides items in folders, this the problem I am trying to solve.
    Thank you for your help!

I have figured out how to do this. I was clicking on the Show Top Sites button located in the Favorites Bar (called the Bookmarks Bar by me earlier) but there's a separate Sidebar button located next to the Back/Forward buttons.

  • Firefox bookmarks to replace Safari bookmarks, complete instructions

For all of us dummies out there : ]
Here are the complete instructions to get your Firefox bookmarks into Safari, and to get them to replace the ones you have in Safari. This is useful for people who, on their computer, do not use Safari, and only use Firefox, but need their Firefox bookmarks easily accessible on their phone (without having to use the Firefox Home App). This will allow your Firefox bookmarks to get synched onto your iPhone's Safari App. Only thing I haven't figured out is how to automatically make this happen, so Safari bookmarks continuously update with changes in the Firefox bookmarks.
Here's a link on how to export Firefox bookmarks to your computer, and then import them into Safari:
    http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/export-bookmarks-safari
The only thing missing in that link is: How do we now get our bookmarks from Firefox to replace the ones in Safari? We want our Bookmark Toolbar in Safari to be the same as the one in Firefox, and the Bookmarks Menu as well.
The answer is straightforward, a slight pain in the butt, but simple. In Safari:
    1. click Bookmarks/Show All Bookmarks
    2. In Sidebar in Safari window, click on Bookmarks Bar. All bookmarks in Bookmarks Bar will be listed to the right.
    3. Select all of the bookmarks shown, and then hit Delete on your keyboard.
    4. In Sidebar, click on Bookmarks Menu. All Bookmark Menu items will be listed to the right.
    5. Select all of the bookmarks shown, then Delete.
    6. In Sidebar, click on your just-imported-from-Firefox imported bookmarks. It should be listed as "Import" with a date.
    7. In window, find Bookmark Toolbar (you will need to scroll way down the list past regular bookmarks), and click its arrow to open the list of bookmarks below it.
    8. Select all those bookmarks below the arrow, and drag them into the sidebar, and drop them on top of the Bookmarks Bar item.
    9. In Sidebar, again click on your just-imported-from-Firefox imported bookmarks.
    10. In window, you will see all the other bookmarks.
    11. Select all those bookmarks, and drag them into the sidebar, on top of the Bookmarks Bar item.
Now all your Firefox bookmarks are in Safari in the same places. When you sync your iPhone, all those bookmarks will be available in the Safari App.

Anyone with assistance for this question?  It would be much appreciated!
    Thanks!

  • Permanently hide bookmarks sidebar

Is there any way to permanently hide the bookmarks sidebar in Safari?  I can temporarily hide it but when I exit and re-enter Safari it appears again.

Permanenty hide the Sidebar in Safari 7?
There is no preference setting availble for that.
The book icon in the Favorites bar allows open/close the sidebar.

  • Close bookmarks sidebar in Mavericks

Does anyone know how to make the new bookmarks sidebar in Safari automatically close when a bookmark is selected?

But the new sidebar in Safari in the Mavericks OS can be closed, right?  I agree that it should automatically close. I just really don't want a sidebar that always stays open (like the sidebars in folders a few versions back).
This concern is one of the reasons I haven't downloaded Mavericks yet.
    Thanks,
    Paula

  • How to add a favorite to the favorite bar

how to add a favorite to the boook mark bar

Finder windows, drag and drop between the left hand side shortcuts.
The translucent bar, known as the Dock that has the trash icon drag to the left of the divider for applications, and right of the divider between icons for documents.  If your Dock is vertical above for applications, and below for documents.  You may have to use the Apple menu's Submenu for the Dock to turn hiding off and magnification off temporarily to have easier control of adding items to it.  Dock icons are only shortcuts.  They aren't stored anywhere on the hard drive except the original place you dragged from, same with Finder sidebars.
Safari Bookmarks, drag and drop between favorites.  Open the Bookmarks via the Bookmarks menu to edit the bookmark bar.

  • Browser usage

I switched to an iMac from a PC about 6 weeks ago. I've been using Safari as my browser & have been perfectly happy with it. I've learned my way around pretty good after using IE for years, but I'm sure there's more to learn. Anyway, I'm mostly looking for information, opinions. I see there are a lot of people who use alternate browsers such as Firefox. What are the advantages, disadvantages of these alternate browsers compared to Safari?
    Thanks,
    Debbie

I should have said Safari Enhancer, a free program found here: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/17776 (free)
    Its features are:
    " Enabling the Debug Menu
    Removing underlines from hyperlinks
Increasing the font size in the bookmarks sidebar
    Disabling Safari’s web content cache
Forcing the download of all PDF files
    Changing the colour of hyperlinks
Switching between the Brushed, Aqua and Unified Title/Toolbar application appearances
    Disabling the website icon cache
Importing bookmarks from the Internet Explorer, Mozilla,
    Netscape, Omniweb and iCab browsers
Configuring of the history retention settings Safari uses
Changing the search engine used in the Safari toolbar
Choosing whether background imagery is printed
Choosing whether to display complete URLs in Safari tooltips
    for links
Changing what browser Safari identifies itself to websites as"
All these things make it easier to use Safari as your main browser. I find this, and Safari Extender: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/22562 ($10.00) which allows saving of tabs and various other goodies to be the two most useful adjuncts to Safari.
Let me know if there is anything else I can clarify (or make more difficult to understand ,
