Sidebar's Font Size

Is it possible to change the font size in the sidebar?
Thanks in advance

Hi thomas!
To my knowledge, no. Not with functions available in OS X.
But maybe someone else is aware of a clever tip or trick!

  • Is there any way to change the font size of the text in the Finder Sidebar?

    This may sound like a bit of a dorky question but here goes nothing...
    I am rather near-sighted and in need of new glasses but I am stuck in a holding pattern until I can get a referral to see my eye doctor. Anyway... I have found myself using the Zoom features far more often and increasing the font size in the Finder for the Item Names & Info.
    The problem that I am facing now, is that the font size of the text in the sidebar is FAR SMALLER than the font size of the text of the actual file names & info.
    +*IS THERE ANY WAY TO INCREASE THE FONT SIZE OF THE TEXT IN THE SIDEBAR??*+
    So far I have looked in:
    *The Finder Preferences
    *The Desktop Preference Pane
    *The Appearance Preference Pane
    *The Seeing Tab of the Universal Access Preference Pane
    And to add to my frustration I have also searched the Mac OS X Help AND all of the posts in this thread (back to 1/1/09) that had the word "sidebar" mentioned in them!!
    +*DOES ANYBODY HAVE ANY OTHER IDEAS?? OR IS THIS ONE AREA THAT I AM OUT OF LUCK BECAUSE APPLE DIDN'T FORESEE THIS ISSUE??*+
    Usually, Apple is really very good about foreseeing any possible trouble (ESPECIALLY when it comes to the area of Accessibility for people w/ disabilities!!)
    I do hope that SOMEBODY can help me on this one!!
    Also, I noticed that the size of the text that is on the Toolbar is also the same ITSY BITSY font size as the text on the sidebar, but I am guessing that there is next to nothing that can be done about that!!
    Thanks a Million!!

    P.S. Here is the link to a screenshot that I took that will illustrate my problem more clearly...

    Hi! The only way I know of is changing the screen resolution. Tom

  • Change font size in Sidebar Bookmark

    I have a text file with all my logins/passwords that I have open in Firefox sidebar. The problem is they open in font size 12. I want it 8 or so. Is there a way to decrease font size or not?

    Firefox has some global text size settings, but those aren't limited to just the one document you care about.
    Instead, you might consider changing your text file to an HTML file. Save as HTML using a plain text editor and add this at the beginning and end.
    <!DOCTYPE html>
    <html>
    <body style="overflow:automatic">
    <pre style="font-size:10px">
    (Your text here)
    </pre>
    </body>
    </html>
    Does that work?
    Also, there are many ways to manage your login information, if this approach becomes too cumbersome.

  • How Do I Change the Mailbox Font Size in the Sidebar?

    In an earlier preview build of Lion, I was able to change the size of the Mailbox font used in the left sidebar to view more content in the column, but I don't remember what I did to change it.  The Mail/Preferences/Fonts & Colors pane no longer has a Mailbox font option.
    Does anyone know how to change the Mail sidebar font size in Lion?

    I'm not sure what you're responding to.  Bob H. above pointed out a clear bug in changing the Mail list font when he went to Mail/Preferences/Fonts & Colors and changed the font setting for the Mail list (second column), and it didn't work.
    My issue was the font size in the first column (sidebar), which is not controlled in the Mail app, but by going to System Preferences/General and checking the box for changing the sidebar font size.  This checkbox also controls the font size for Finder (Desktop) windows sidebars (left column), where hard drives, other volumes, user Documents folders, and the like are listed.  This does work perfectly for me.
    I have no other suggestions for you, except for perhaps trying removing the com.apple.finder.plist file located in the ~/Library/Preferences folder, which you can access by holding down the option key while selecting the Go menu at the top of the screen.  This controls the Finder window settings you have previously selected, and may be corrupted.  Simply move it to the Desktop for temporary safekeeping, then if it simply copied it, vice moving it out of the folder, right click on the file in the folder to move it to the Trash (you may have to authenticate).  This will force the Finder to recreate a default version of the file, which you can then remodify to your liking.  If that works, Trash the copy you moved to the Desktop.  If not, put it back in the folder to restore your prior settings.
    Good luck.

    I know how to change the font size of the window contents, but the setting does not affect the sidebar. How do I change the font size of the sidebar?

    I would also like to re-order the Shared and Devices section...
    If you find a way, let me know..... seriously, as of right now, I've not seen anything. I suggested it to Apple, but obviously they did not think that highly of my idea

  • FINDER - Sidebar Font Size

    FINDER - Sidebar Font Size
    I'm using Mac OS X v10.5.8 & have been trying to find a way to I increase the font size in the sidebar of FINDER.
    Has this actually been fixed or is there a 3rd party app that will allow me to do this much like in mail! but for FINDER!
    I've noticed this has been asked many times but never officially answered.
    thank you in Advance.

    While those font sizes appear to be fixed, and perhaps there is a way to get into
    the system via Terminal or some other super-user access, an easy utility to do so
    does not appear to be readily available. If one is available, this feature is under
    advertised or a sub-note hidden within.
    I'd just been looking into 'Path Finder' by Cocatech, I did not see a reference to
    this Sidebar Font size issue; yet did read into their Forums page to note a post
    there asking about this situation. Since Path Finder is a retail product and adds
    a new user Finder with extra capabilities (30 day demo) license is about $40.
    No mention about their adding this; however many other controls are added.
    (A Leopard 10.5 & Snow Leopard 10.6 version, plus older v. Tiger 10.4 appear.)
    While their screen casts of features were a bit interesting to watch (in QT .mov)
    http://cocoatech.com/screencasts - the specific ability to resize Finder sidebar is
    not mentioned; although their custom Path Finder application has more controls.
    Note they say their app can 'replace Finder' - so maybe they will offer their own fix.
    So, this probably isn't a direct answer to the pending question or a fix.
    Since I haven't had much time or access to Snow Leopard, I've no idea
    if the newer system version has a control to adjust Finder's Sidebar Font.
    I rarely use the Finder window within the desktop 'finder' and have avoided it;
    that isn't something I'd found useful, though something similar has existed in
    many Mac OS systems in some form, guise, or other applicable function.
    In fact the wider busy finder/folder windows are more distracting than ever
    starting in Leopard 10.5; so, that's more wasted screen space to try to ignore.
    {Sure, I can say that while realizing the other kinds of access this may provide
    the seasoned user who is already used to tiny words & extra feature functions.}
    Not sure if tweaks in tools such as Titanium Software - OnyX may offer any
    type of interface customization in this area. This can change a few things,
    I've used this application since it was first available, in earlier v. OS X 10.x
    while not being all that interested in making a mess of what has worked well.
    Perhaps someone with command line or Terminal experience has already
    blazed a trail into this jungle, and left some great bread crumbs to follow.
    Maybe a nice Script has come from surveying & marking the path...?
    +PS: Hello, and welcome to Apple Support Discussions forums!+
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Change font size on Sidebar

    Does anybody else find the font too small?
    Has anyone found a preference to increase the size? Resizing doesn't do it.

    It's driving me nutz! I've tried tinkerTool but it doesn't work for the sidebar. I feel like I'm going blind! Nothing like a creative professional that can't see! I'm sure it can't be that hard to give a user the ability to change the system font size????

    Well, if you normally use the lowest resolution, then yes.
    vincentd wrote:
    Also it CAN be done in iMovie 08, why isn't it possible with other Apple apps?
    I can't answer that question. We don't work for Apple here, we're all just plain users who contribute our time, but you can send Mac OS X Feedback

  • Changing menu, sidebar font size

    can anyone tell me how to change the font size of the menu bars and sidebars? i just can't find it anywhere?

    Your answer is an honest one.
    People have been submitting suggestions to Apple over this issue for several years now and Apple has done nothing about them. Changing screen resolution size is not a workable option for most people as anything other than the native resolution renders fonts blurry. Tinker Tool can help with some font issues but not with the system fonts that give so many people problems.
    I have read posts in other forums on this issue and the thing that was pointed out is the reason Apple refuses to allow system font control is they think such control will damage the integrity of the Aqua interface. While I disagree, it is, after all, their company and their product. While I am happy overall with the Mac platform, there are some things that Windows and Linux do much better than Apple and fonts are one of those items.

  • Is there a way to increase the font size in the sidebar of Mac mail and the Finder when running OS 10.6.8?

    Is there a way to increase the font size in the sidebar of Mac mail and the Finder when running OS 10.6.8?

    The only way to increase the size of the onscreen text in the Finder Menu Bar and in the Side bar in Finder Windows is to change the screen resolution in the OS X Preferences Pane under the Displays icon.
    What Mac and screen size are you using?

  • How do I increase the font size in my email and maintain resolution.

    Hi folks. Mr Newbie is seeking some help, I hope it is relatively straight forward, thanks
    How do I increase the font size in my standard email and document views without losing resolution.  Right now my font size in email, headers and text is less than that on my iPhone, it rather defeats the point of having a 27" screen if most of it is blank and I have to sit with my nose to the screen to read email.  Thanks for your help, once you have stopped laughing.  C

    Two things you can do to easily aid with readability in Mail are as follows:
    1) Increase the size of folders in the sidebar:
    a) select "system preferences" from the Apple menu
    b) select "general settings"
    c) select small, medium or large under "sidebar icon size"
    2) Increase the text in the main body of the email (both sent and received):
    a) select "preferences" from the Mail menu
    b) select "fonts and colors"
    c) adjust font size for "message list font" and "message font".  I have noticed this works properly while in classic mode, but in regular mode the message list font doesn't appear to change size.
    Select classic mode by accessing Mail preferences and selecting the "viewing" tab.
    Another shortcut is to right click on the toolbar, then select "customize toolbar", and then drag the "smaller / bigger" buttons onto the toolbar.  Now you can decrease and increase font size as desired on the fly.

  • How can I adjust the font size in iTunes 11?

    How can I adjust the font size in iTunes 11?  Specifically, when in Artist view both the text in the sidebar and the track listing are huge.

    How to change fontsize in iTunes
    Take an XML-Editor and open:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\iTunes.Resources\de.lproj\TextStyles.plist"
    For other languages change your country code (de, en, fr, pl ...).
    Example for english:  "\en.lproj\TextStyles.plist".
    Backup this File !!!
    To change the Text-Size, change the integer value of the following item:
    "<key>size</key>"
    "<integer>8</integer>"
    This means Text-Size 8
    "<key>size</key>"
    "<integer>12</integer>"
    This means Text-Size 12
    To change the font, change the integer value of the following item:
    <key>font</key>
    <string>Arial</string>
    This means the font changes to Arial
    This also works:
    <key>italic</key>
    <true/>
    <key>bold</key>
    <true/>
    <key>underline</key>
    <true/>

  • Change font size in side bar

    How do I change the font size for the side bar? I can change icon sizes and font sizes for desktop and folder items, but I do not see where the setting is for the side bar.
    Thanks in advance

    A few people mention seeing a sidebar option in Tiger but nowhere in 20 minutes web searching could I find anybody saying where they could do this in Tiger (and usually that kind of tip is very quickly found on many websites). They just bemoan missing this in Leopard. Maybe they remember an even earlier incarnation of OSX, or it may involve a pretty serious hack of the system.
    http://www.straitmac.com/jforum/posts/list/502.page
    I looked at preference lists for Finder and com.apple.sidebarlists.plist and nowhere does it list sidebar font preferences.
    Good luck searching, and report back if you do find it.

    Is there any way to change this?

    Hi,
    Try this...Go to System Preferences the select "General" and set "Sidebar icon size" to  "Small" as shown below, then close. That should do the trick as its universally applied. I had same problem in Lion.
    I also use the paid for 'Tinker Tool System" in which you can change many things so long as you are confident but that's a personal choice.
