Sidebar show duplicate items

i am running 10.5.5 with my new unibody macbook. i notice today all the items in my sidebar has been duplicated three times. i removed all the dup items and it looks fine now, however when i press 'attach' from mail, it opens the finder and i see THREE desktop icons even though i only see ONE in the finder.
is this a bug in 10.5.5?
what should i do?

no. your sidebar preference file is likely corrupt. delete the file homedirectory/library/preferences/com.apple.sidebarlists.plists and log out/in. your sidebar will be reset to the defaults and should behave normally.

ITunes won't let me select show duplicate items on my iPhone 4s.

I can see the option but it is in faded font color and I cannot select it. Pressing shift, or alt, or control does nothing to remedy the problem.
I'm using an iPhone 4S, under the most current iOS (7.1)

I wish to remove duplicate songs from the music selection on my iPhone. While in iTunes, I select the iPhone and go to "On This Phone". From there I go to "View>Show Duplicate Items". But the option is hollow-texted, as in:
Show Statusbar
Show Sidebar
Show Duplicate Items
Video Playback
Show Visualizer
When I click on Show Visualizer, nothing happens. I need help to remedy this situation. I posted the topic in the iPhone section, as I don't care about duplicate songs in my iTunes, just the phone itself.

Show Duplicate Items is grayed out

I am trying to clear out duplicate songs from my playlist after some merging. I clearly have duplicates in my music library. But when I try to "Show Duplicate Items", it is grayed out and unresponsive. My iTunes version is 11.1.3.8 and I am on Windows 7. Is there any way I might be able to use this feature?

You can only use that feature when your are in your library (on the PC). Oddly, the feature does not allow for finding duplicates on the device itself (as in your screenshot).

Show Duplicate Items is not available for all media types, or for media that's on any device rather than in your library. Make sure you have Music selected (the icon with two musical notes, top left of the screen) so that you can see a listing of songs, albums, ... and the function should then be available for you.

hi guys, i was just googling the problem as i too have it, i am currently trying to sort it, i have deleted all my music off my phone using itunes and then put it all back on and also tried deleting it and outting 1 album on at a time, still not got rid of the duplicate tracks, i have now used the show duplicate items view and deleted those off my itunes library. i think i may have come across the problem!! i have just deleted all my music off my iphone using itunes again, and it shows nothing being on my iphone, however, if i go into music on my actual phone it is still showing 126 songs and none of them play. so i have now deleted them manually directly from the phone and am now putting all my music back onto my phone hoping i have cured the issue of ghost tracks.
ill let you know when its done if we are cured!!

do you have the current itunes? the option is under view "show duplicate items. Maybe you just dont have any duplicates.

ICloud/Outlook 2007 - Contacts & Calendar duplicate items.

I just recently updated my 3GS to the new OS and installed iCloud and I'm having a couple of issues.
1. My contact and calendar items have been duplicated. One set are listed under "My Calendars" and "My Contacts" and the other listed under "iCloud". The iCloud items sync wirelessly to my phone but the others need the phone to be connect by cable to sync. Aside from showing duplicate items on my phone, updating one set does not update the other.
Is there a way of having one set that sync wirelessly?
2. Calendar appointments listed under "iCloud" do not show up on my "To-Do Bar" applet in the mail screen or Outlook Today home screen.
How can I add these appointments to be visible on these screens?

By any chance are you running any Eset security software products (like Nod32) on that PC?
If so, there's a couple of alternatives.

Or, see if you can get hold of the Eset beta addressing the problem. As Samoreen notes in another post:
ESET have a workaround for this issue. They gave me access to a test version of the HIPS module and this fixed the problem. So I could re-enable the ESET_OPTIONS environment variable (although I still consider that it's a questionable idea). I upgraded to iTunes 11.1.5.5 and there was no problem.
So maybe you should get in touch with ESET support and request the new module ? Just send a message to Marcos in the ESET forum.

Duplicate item filename error

here's the story:
i had a 1tb drive (drive 1) and a 1tb back-up drive (drive 2). drive 1 crashed and i returned it and got a new drive (drive 3). i copied over the media from drive 2 to drive 3. it finished. then when i restarted, drive 2 was dead too. i can't find my disk warrior so rescuing that drive will have to wait. so now i have drive 3 and i mount it and start fcp 5. looks like most of my copied media has gotten trashed in the move. all looks green and when i go to the finder to try to play the clips, they are corrupt. so i delete all the media and start digitizing everything. (feature length show here and 45 hour long tapes...no fun). i get about 12 tapes in and then move the system from my home to work. restart and go to start digitizing on tape 12 where i left off at home and i get the "additional items found" dialogue box pop up. i respond "add". then i get an error : "duplicate item filename". i have the choice to rename,skip or abort.i trash the preference settings. i reset the scratch disk. there are no media clips on the system with dupe names. what can i do? please do not suggest that i add a 1 to everything. i am batch capturing 30+ more tapes and each tape has 40 clips. i am not going to type 1 after each clip and do them one by one. help please. is this a meta data error on the capture drive...i wouldn't think so as i reset the capture disk to the internal to try to eliminate that as a possibility.

Where's Show Duplicates in iTunes 11?

Can't find Show Duplicates. Can't find Album Art for selected item in song list view. Some of my album art doesn't display, although it's there when I select Get Info. What gives???

I use a tool called "Dupin Lite" to search for duplicates. It can be found in the App Store which You have to pay for.

I now have iTunes ver 11.0.4.4 under Windows 7. I lost all iTunes stuff when updating to Windows 7. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks. If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin. Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. I am having a hard time trying to figure out how to find and remove duplicate items under the New iTunes 11? Its not as user friendly as in previous versions. Does anyone know how to figure this out?

The most recent version of the script can tidy dead links as long as there is at least one live duplicate to merge stats and playlist membership to and should cope sensibly when the same file has been added via multiple paths.

My itunes is showing duplicates of songs when there is no actual double.

Heck it show triple also. Is there an easy way to fix this instead of going through and clicking on every single one ( it would take me weeks lol) I uninstalled and reinsatlled itunes and it still happned. any ideas guys?

Duplicate items in dropdown notifications!

I have the 4th gen iPod touch and when I do the swipe down notification, I get duplicate items in my calendar. This isn't the case in iCal or even in Calendars on the Touch but only in the swipe down portion. Any ideas? Thanks!

I have observed the same with some notifications on my iPad. It seems to only occur with events originating on my wife's Macbook to which I subscribe on my iMac. Likewise we do not see duplicates on the iPad Calendar or the BusyCal calendars on our Macs. It is also not duplicated in the on-line iCloud web version of my calendar either. I experimented with creating events on both her main calendar (which showed duplicates) and her others (which did not) and the newly entered events did not duplicate.
I just created a fresh entry on my wife's computer of an event that was duplicated. This new entry propagated as one entry. I then deleted the older entry (on Mac) that was also duplicated under notifications. This eliminated ONE of the duplicate notification entries on the iPad. I then went to List View (in BusyCal) where there were neither of the earlier duplicate events. This was a semi-occuring event and I did note the related event modification dates. I now strongly suspect that the problem occurred with the conversion from synching over our home LAN to synching over iCloud. This event reminder duplication is a minor inconvenience that will eventually go away, but I think that a solution that might work would be to temporarily uncheck by iCloud Calendar synching on the Mac(s), then back-up all the BusyCal calendars, delete all my calendar data from BusyCal, then re-enable iCloud Calendar synching. Toggling iCloud synching on the iPad doesn't fix the problem, so the source is likely on the Mac end.

Duplicate Items in Outlook After Mailbox Move to New Server

We are performing a server migration and after moving a group of pilot users from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007, they are reporting duplicate items (emails, calendar, contacts, etc.) in Outlook. What could be causing this to happen and how do we prevent
it? What's the best way to fix the existing duplicates? The duplicates have sync'd to the server as they show up in Outlook Webmail as well.

How do your move these mailboxes from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007? Using move request in Exchange 2007 or exporting/importing a PST file?
