Sidebar Won't add any Favorites

Not sure when this first happened, but I noticed it for the first time today.
When I open up my main disc drive I am used to the side bar showing entried for Favorite, Shared, and Devices. Today I noticed that the only thing I am seeing are the shared items and devices. Hmm, thought this was odd, so I opened up the Finder Preferences and selected the sidebar page in the finder preferences. It is here that I noticed all the the items under Favorites are not checked. When I went to check an item, All My Files for example, the check whould immediately uncheck. This happens whenever I try and check any items under Favorites.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Go to your Finder "Go" menu hold the option key and choose Library. Then go to Preferences folder and trash these files:
com.apple.finder.plist
com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
Then, restart, or log out and in again.
(You will have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.)

I can't log on to iChat! When I run my iChat and go to preferences > accounts, it won't let me click the + button to add my AIM account. Everytime I click the + button, it doesn't do anything. What can I do to fix this problem?

The most likely cause is that you are using a Mac User Account that is subject to Parental Controls.
(Turning Off Parental Controls, adding Accounts and Buddies then listing those Buddies in Parental Controls as it is turned On again is the way to go)

App manager won't add any apps.

I try to add either a packaged or hosted app into app manager on firefox 30. I've verified that the hosted app works on my handset (obviously I have no way of testing that the packaged app works without installing it via app manager, which isn't working). The app then does not show up in the list of apps in app manager (which is empty), nor does firefox display any error messages either as alerts or logs in the console. I went on a hunt for logs around my filesystem, but I couldn't find anything. I am on OSX 10.9.

With the last Firefox upgrade, some plugins are no longer
enabled until you enable it.
Open the Add-ons Manager.

ITunes 10.5 won't add to library OR play any audio files prior to update

I recently updated to iTunes 10.5 on my MacBook Pro running OS X 10.6.8, and iTunes won't add any of my old music files to the library, regardless of what directory they are in. The permissions on all files and folders of interest are read and write. I've tried directing the library to sevral different places, deleting the library files, etc. etc. Nothing works. Not only this, but iTunes won't even open ANY of the old files when I click on them, even though they all have the iTunes icon. Additionally, when I move the files in the library but don't tell iTunes in preferences, they still play (there are two songs in the library I just downloaded from the store to figure out what's going on). Anyone have any ideas here, this is a mess. Oh, forgot to mention I reinstalled iTunes as well and that didn't resolve any issues. Have tried restarting the computer also. Thanks for any thoughts,

Compressor Won't Add Files to Source

For some reason my Compressor won't add any files to the source.
For example I'm trying to add a ~30GB .mp4 to the source so that I convert it.
Not sure what other details I can give other than this.

When you open the files in QuickTime Player, do they have a buffer bar that needs to load before they can be played back? If so, Compressor likely needs to fully load the video before it can work with the file. I've run into this with .mkv files, so maybe the .mp4 files sourced from .mkv have the same behavior.
In these cases I generally save a referenced .mov file from Quicktime 7 Pro and drop that in Compressor for a smoother workflow. It still needs to fully buffer in QT7 Pro before you can do a Save As, though.

TS1967 I have just bought a new computer and downloaded latest version of itunes. It has all installed fine, but when I sync my ipod, it shows all the songs but won't play any of the songs in that library. Also, I can't add new files.

Installing iTunes does not cause content to magically appear on the computer.
Your media is only where you put it.
iOS devices are not backup devices.
Copy the media from the old computer to the new computer.

My ipod just adds apps but won't delete any. I can't restore it to its factory settings as I don't know the 4 digit code. Can anyone help please?

You can try putting it in DFU mode (google is your friend), but that's all we can suggest.

IPhone Contacts won't let me "add to favorite"

I have an iPhone 3g - not the newest version - with the new 3.0. When I go into Contacts and then find a contact I want to add as a favorite, the only options it displays is "Text Message" or "Share Contact". There is no "add as favorite". What gives?

The "Add to Favorites" tab doesn't show if the contact is already a favorite - should show a star next to the number - or if there isn't a telephone # in the contact (email and physical addresses obviously can't be favorite numbers for the phone app). If the entry isn't already a favorite, and is a telephone #, you need to restore the phone in iTunes.

IPod video 5th G - Can only load about 15 songs before it crashes and won't allow me to add any more - Is my hard drive broken?

I have an iPod Video, 5th Generation - a few years old aye, but it does the job. Recently it crashed and wouldn't respond at all, I tried the 5 R's and the iPod wouldn't restore at all. Finally I managed to restore it, but then encountered a new problem.
When I try to put new music onto the iPod the maximum I can really add is about 15/16 songs (currently sitting about 112 MB). I can use the iPod just fine with this on it, but I can't add any songs or anything past this limit. I can take songs off and add new ones on, but again cannot pas this limit.
It is a 30GB hard drive, so I should be able to load near enough 30GB onto it.
Whenever I try to pass the limit and add new songs a message saying "Attempting to copy to the disk "RUSSELL'S I" failed. An unknown error occurred (-69).", and then a second message pops up reading "iTunes could not copy "Song" to the iPod because an unknown error occurred (-69)."
Looking to find out, does this mean my Hard Drive is broken/damaged, or could it possibly be a different issue, as buying a new hard drive is reasonably cheap, but if it turns out to be the motherboard or something else then I don't want to have wasted the money buying a new HDD only to find out the problem hasn't been fixed.
Has anyone else had this issue? Or anybody found a way to fix it?

You can use the disk diagnostic tool built into the iPod's firmware to test the health of it's Hard Drive. See this post from another forum member turingtest2 on how to do this as well as what the resulting numbers mean.

Itunes won't let me add any more videos for my ipod classic

I got a ipod classic (80gb) for christmas and I have now added 3.2 hours of video onto itunes which has been synced to my Ipod however itunes will now not let me add any more videos -even though I have added no music files on it as yet , could it be because all the videos I have downloaded myself and converted to mp4 via a internet program? could anybody help as my ipod is supose to play up to 100 hours of video files.

It loads the add to favorites window very well as in any IE..But since the static word Geekpedia is being used, it displays the same and also navigates to the static URL http://www.geekpedia.com".
I want to make it work dynamically...Please help me with any code change if any one has tried this before.
One other thing that got messed up with was this icon replaced all other icons in the output....but...if i viewed the whskin_tbars.htm, i could see that the default icons appeared below somwhere...and there was this Add to Favorites icon appearing at the top...I dont know why these icons have got misplaced,,,i want to align them all in the same line..

A long story, but I will need some more time to sort this out:
Simple solutions:
     - Change the var BookmarkURL="http://www.geekpedia.com" to your own URL, such as: var BookmarkURL="http://myhelp.com"
     - Change the var BookmarkTitle="Geekpedia" to your name, such as: var BookmarkTitle="My help system"
     - Do not insert an image trough the javascript tab, add it using the image options with the custom toolbar items popup. This will probably solve your image problem.
If you want to the URL dynamic, you need document.location.href, such as: var BookmarkURL = document.location.href; This however will get the adress of the current frame, which is whskin_tbars.htm.
If you want to get the Title dynamic, you will need document.getElementsByTagName('title')[0]; and then you need to retrieve the title, as: xxx.firstChild.data,: such as:
     - var BookmarkGet = document.getElementsByTagName('title')[0];
     - var BookmarkTitle = BookmarkGet.firstChild.data;
This always gets the URL and the Title of the frame you inserted the script in, which for the button toolbar is whskin_tbar.htm. When you insert this in any give topic, your bookmark will work fine, but will only call the topic, and not your skin.
If you only want the URL of your helpsystem, I suggest you just change the variables BookmarkURL and BookmarkTitle.
If you want to target the current topic from any other location, such as the title bar, you need to address the top frame and then the topic. I don't know which frame this is, but I will look into it. This may take me some time though, but perhaps someone else knows which frames to address.
Example for getting the url of your helpsystem dynamically:

Add to favorites button

I would like to have an add to favorites button on my flash
website but it just won't work. I have copied the code from this

it's not a flash issue. it's a browser (and possibly pop-up
blocker) issue.
flash can cause any javascript function to execute (though
you'd be better served to use the externalinterface class rather
than getURL). you need to find a javascript function that works
with the browsers that want.

My iPhone's number won't add itself to iMessage or FaceTime!

My new phone number is greyed out and not available to be selected for iMessage or FaceTime. I've changed my iMessage/FaceTime phone number in the past without any issue, but now this new one won't add! I've tried logging out of ALL devices and logging back in, but it didn't help. No matter what I do, I can't select my telephone number to be active for iMessage/FaceTime!
Here's some background:
First phone number on an iPhone 3GS with AT&T: Phone number worked fine on iMessage!
Took my iPhone 3GS (unlocked) to Straight Talk Wireless (a Tracfone prepaid service branded for Wal-Mart) with a NEW number: Phone number worked fine on iMessage!
Upgraded to iPhone 5 (locked to T-Mobile) on Straight Talk Wireless (with T-Mobile-compatible SIM) with the SAME Straight Talk Wireless phone number: Phone number worked fine on iMessage! This newer iPhone also introduced FaceTime and my number worked fine on that too!
Took the same iPhone 5 to Brightspot Wireless (a T-Mobile prepaid service branded for Target Stores) and got a NEW phone number: This new number will NOT add to iMessage or FaceTime no matter what I do! It stays grayed out and cannot be selected!
I have other Apple devices that also use iMessage and/or FaceTime:
iMac on OS X Yosemite Beta with both iMessage & FaceTime
iPhone 4S on iOS 8.0.2 used only as a glorified iPod Touch (kept on Airplane Mode with WiFi only -- it has an inactive dummy SIM so it would activate in iTunes and operate normally) with both iMessage & FaceTime
iPhone 3GS on iOS 6.1.3 (the same as used before with Straight Talk Wireless) now only used as a glorified iPod Touch (kept on Airplane Mode with WiFi only -- this one still has its most recent Straight Talk Wireless SIM in it so it would activate after its restore in iTunes and operate normally) with iMessage only (no FaceTime)
In case it matters, the iPhone 5 in question (with the phone number that won't add) is on iOS 7.1.2.
People have my new number but it's not going to all my devices when another iDevice sends me an iMessage and it's really frustrating for this to not work properly! My only thought is that my iPhone 5's custom APN settings keep erasing themselves after a restart or a loss in signal, causing me to have no MMS or data (except WiFi) until I type the settings back in. I can see why this might make me temporarily disconnected from Apple's servers, but I don't see why it won't add the phone number in the first place! Please help!

I have the same issue... tried logging out of iMessages and FaceTime on all devices, reset network settings, start again from the iPhone which number i want to connect etc., but to no avail. It keeps being greyed out and I'm unable to select it no matter what...
O, and whats more frustrating, people are sending me iMessages to the number in question (like when they use the phone number and not the email address), the iMessage goes through from their side, but I never get it on any of my devices! Many people have asked me why I'm not responding to their messages and I have no idea they even sent me!

In ios 6.1.3 I do not have an add to favorites button at the bottom right of my contacts - how do I add a phone number to favorites?

New in this forum and looking for help with ios 6.1.3. In previous versions I could add phone numbers to favorites - most recently using "add to favorites" at the bottom right of my contact. Now there are only 3 choices - "Send Message" - "Face Time" - "Share Contact" and no "Add to Favorites." Any help on this would be appreciated - I have used Favorites for years and can't do it now with new contacts.

Your suggestion worked perfectly. I can't believe there is nothing in any of the instructions I have seen online at the Yahoo and Apple help sites about the making sure the right default account is checked. I don't think I was even aware there was a "default account" setting. Thank you so much.
