SIDS is Dead! ( almost )

I just wanted to say thanks to apple if anyone reads these in order for the SIDS fix. It does appear fixed, however sometimes I will need to skip from and back to a track to get output going again ( I change midi channels a lot on my controller and use a multi timbral AU ).
Thanks apple, almost there, but definitely better than restarting a song.

Still in big trouble
Have tried to restore from Time Machine, this will not succeed. Almost done and the computer stops.
Reinstalling the operating system, almost finished the computer stops.
I've tried everything I can find on the described problem on the Internet - nothing helps.
When the computer reach a point so that it stops for some reason.
Is it possible that I can get a log file from the computer, and copies here to the forum?

  • Earphone input issue, left side dead

My left side audio just died on me.
Inserting the earphone only delivers right-side audio, the left side is dead! Tried various ear and head phones..same. Right side good..left side no sound. I can however ease it in about half way to get both sides to work, (the plug being a bit loose with this config).
Is the input broken? Anything I can do on my end? Thanks.

Nothing you can really do. You've tried different headsets just to see if the original ones were broken.
Sounds as though you'll need to send it in for repair.

  • InDesign 5.5 Side Panels missing content

After force quitting my program a few times due to unresponsiveness, it seems to have lost all of my preferences along with the side panel content. I can open the side panels but almost all of them are blank. I can see my layers, links, and pages but I cannot see any colors, swatches, text wrap, or alignment.
I have played with a couple of things to try and get it back to how I like it but no results.
Is this one of those super easy fixes that I am totally overlooking?

  • Upgrade to OS 3.1.3 Appears to have laid the phone dead.

I just synchronized the iphone with Itunes, and confirmed to update to OS 3.1.3. At the finalizing of the process, the phone suddenly went out. I got an error message saying synchronize update was not completed without saying reason for failing.
The problem then is that it laid the phone dead, almost as it is short-circuited. I can not get it started, or contact with anything, having tried charging, rebooting the phone etc. It is ofcourse not detected when connecting to the pc either.
I have never had problems with the phone or with the synchronizing process before.
Did this OS upgrade kill my phone/battery? Nothing in my pc setup, cables or software can have caused this. Everything with phone and computer is in original condition.

I have tried both of the USB ports on my macbook, direct, not via a hub. The connection is good because it knows that the iphone is connected 'in recovery mode'. The phone was fine until I followed the instructions to upgrade. I went to the support page and have tried repowering the phone, the computer, checking I have the latest version of itunes etc. error 21 is not on the list of specific problems. I'm at my wits end!

  • Slow Speeds, no phone for two months, extortionate...

Last summer, in preparation for Infinity (or so we were told), work was carried out at our local cabinet.  Most houses in the street lost their phone for days, weeks or even months.
Thankfully we have a second line in the house dating back to dial up days and the broadband is on that line so broadband was unaffected.
Our phone was dead for two months. I phoned BT several times a week during the outage and was told each time that they couldn't help me but promised someone would ring back. We made probably ten to twenty phone calls, and never received even one call back. Before you think that they couldn’t return the call because the line was dead, of course they had another number where they could reach us!
After a couple of months the phone just started working again. Unsurprisingly we were not informed that it had been fixed, or why it was out for so long or anything like that. Never heard anything from any customer service representative, never received any compensation or an apology.
A week ago our phone went dead again. Phoned up and since this time there was a question that it might be an internal fault, BT were suddenly extremely interested in fixing it. BT engineer visited, replaced a meter of internal wiring that had become damaged and was gone in under thirty minutes – price £380! Yes THREE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY POUNDS. Some of us have to work months to save that much. Obviously BT are very willing to fix things when there’s money to be made and you can (in theory) get someone else to fix it. When it’s a fault in their street cabinets that only they can fix they don’t seem quite so keen on fixing the problem, no wonder!
If the man had arrived in a plain white van instead of one with BT printed on the side you would almost expect to see him on an episode of BBC "Rogue Traders".
A year on and Infinity is still not available to us, although people only a few doors down the street can get it. Every time we’ve enquired we’ve been told it will become available to us within the next month or two, but that’s been going on for a couple of years now, they just keep pushing back the date. I don’t anticipate it anytime soon, so in the meanwhile will fall back on the regular BT ADSL line, which in the last couple of weeks has halved in speed. Unrelated to the fault on the first line, remember, because it’s a different line.
Of course I don’t live in the middle of nowhere. There’s been broadband here for twelve years. Twenty-five minutes on the train from central London and even the (ex) council houses here have Porsches parked in front. This is a wealthy area, which doesn’t really benefit the poor locals like me, but you would think we would get Infinity at some point.
No phone for two months, never being called back, charged £380 for a meter of cable and now getting half the broadband speed I was two or three years ago.
    BT probably call this progress.

  • HTC Trophy Connection Lost 4th Time post Mango Update

Everyone, I am well aware of the issues surrounding the Mango update and lost data connection. I have reset my phone several times and reapplied updates w/o the connection app, but continue to lose my data connection (no 3G, 1x, anything). It seems to get triggered intermittently when going to work out in a gym that is located in a huge air hanger (Cargo plane size) whose massive steel structure creates a very marginal connection. When this occurs, I can still call/text, but the data connection is gone. The only recourse is to hard reset my phone and reapply the updates. At this point, I'm done resetting my phone every two weeks to temporarily solve the problem. I have done the *228 to reprogram the phone, taken the battery out and put it back in, tried various combinations of turning the data connection switch on/off w/ and w/o airplane mode w/ resets following each change. No, I don't have the HTC connection app installed now or before the update. Does anyone have any solutions for solving this problem other than resetting it. A sales person at the Fairfield Mall corporate store said I would need to call to get a ticket to get the phone replaced under warranty, which is want I want to have occur (or moved into an Android/iPhone) On another sad note, the sales person said their store does not carry any windows phones, have received almost no interest in selling them, and was shocked that I had such a Verizon phone. He had never sold one himself...doesn't bode well for Windows Phone (maybe I could get a beta of Nokia phone coming to Verizon ). Thank you. Frustrated, Michael

Less than two weeks after receiving the refurbished replacement, preloaded with Mango, it has also lost data connectivity. In addition, the "digitizer" on this phone is horrible, which makes scrolling and sliding movement hard to complete and taps1/3 of the way down on the left side appear dead from time-to-time. Should I hard reset my phone every two week to just get data connectivity restored. This seems like an unacceptable resolution to the problem considering the amount of time it takes to restore email, address books, settings, and apps. A Verizon representative claimed a technical support person would call back an hour after my initial call, but this did not happen. I'm becoming very unhappy with both this phone and Verizon support at this rate. I'm hoping they will just replace the phone with an iPhone or Android phone at this point. I would rather just be done with the Windows Phones at this point. (My wife's Droid 2 global has worked really well for her). Unsatisfied Customer, Michael Robbeloth

  • Statement.cancel() no longer works with WLS 8.1?

Has anyone else had a problem with the cancel() method in oracle.jdbc.OracleCallableStatement
on WLS 8.1 not doing a very good job of killing the thread in Oracle? We were
using cancel() with weblogic.jdbc.pool.CallableStatement on WLS 6.1 and it does
a very good job of killing the query on the Oracle side. But almost all of this
package has been removed and we've been told we need to use the Oracle vendor
package to get our stuff to work on 8.1. I decompiled both classes and they each
have very different implementations of the cancel() method.
I think I've managed to convert all of our DB access classes to the Oracle vendor
package successfully, with the exception of this issue. We use cancel() let users
cancel large queries and to cancel an existing query if a user tries to run a
new one. Since we implemented it we've had a huge performance boost from the lack
of runaway queries in the DB. It would be a real pain if we can't find a way to
get the Oracle version to work. Any help or tales of similar experiences would
    be greatly appreciated.
    thx a lot,
    Matt Savino

    I did a search on Oracle MetaLink. I didn't see any Oracle-confirmed
bugs related to cancel. I did see one user in the JDBC forum that
was having a problem with a remote (not on the local machine)
cancel. At this point, this case will need to be worked through
support - they will need to generate a reproducer and assuming they
do, file a tar with Oracle.

Regarding the wrappers - now I remember discussing this with you in thebeta newsgroup about a month ago.
The goal was to make it transparent that everything was changed to bepassthrough in 8.1.
The good news is that you can now use the vendor interface directly andget their extensions
directly. That means that the wrapper for Oracle will be different fromthe wrapper for DB2.
Further, any new excentions in the interface will become visible to theapplication.
    >
The bad news is that this only works when the vendor has a definedinterface; it doesn't work
if only a class is defined.
This is a problem for some of the Oracle data type classes that don't havedefined interfaces
and the reason why weblogic.vendor.oracle interfaces still need to be usedfor these classes.
That also applies to BEA classes and weblogic.jdbc.pool only had classesdefined, not interfaces.
    >
    We should have documented change.
Regarding the real problem of cancel(), the WLS JDBC code is not doinganything here
except passing the cancel call through to the thin driver. My guess isthat this is
a problem in the thin driver. I haven't had a chance to research this onthe Oracle site yet.

Thanks a ton for your quick reply on this. On recommendation from yoursupport
team (case 426562) here is the primary line that we had to change:
    [old] weblogic.jdbc.pool.CallableStatement cStat
    =(weblogic.jdbc.pool.CallableStatement)connection.prepareCall(call);
    >>
    [new] - oracle.jdbc.OracleCallableStatement cStat
    =(oracle.jdbc.OracleCallableStatement)connection.prepareCall(call);
    >>
(FYI - We need this to take adavantage of some of the advanced Oraclefeatures
like returning multiple ResultSets. We'd like to avoid using the OCIclient if
possible, assuming that would even solve this.)
Further down in the code, here is the cancel() method:
    public void cancelCall() {
    try {
    if (cStat != null) cStat.cancel();
    releaseConnection();
    catch (Exception e){ e.printStackTrace(); }
In both cases the cancel() call throws no error, but only on the oldversion do
we actually see the thread die promptly in Oracle.
Thanks again for your help on this,

In WLS 8.1, it is a clean passthrough directly of all Oracle interfaces
using a dynamic proxy so that
all Oracle extensions show through. The only additional work that WLS
    is doing to to
ensure that transactions are managed correctly (which shouldn't have
    an impact here).
Note that in versions prior to WLS 8.1, you were using classes12.zip
for the client and now you are using ojdbc14.jar. There are
some big differences in this client implementation.
Maybe you should try testing this standalone without WLS in the picture
    to see
if this is a driver problem. WLS doesn't have the code that isresponsible
for killing the thread in Oracle.
I'm not sure I understand what code you are changing. The goal was to
    preseve the interfaces
provided in releases prior to 8.1. Code you show me an old code line

    changing it to? Thanks.

  • Is there a way to print/convert a file to PDF from the Command Line? If so, how?

I'm trying to do something that I imagined would be really simple, but I haven't found a good resource on how to thus far. I'm trying to do something along the lines of this:
    Acrobat.exe /print inputfile.xls outputfile.pdf.

For automating Acrobat there are many interfaces for programmers, but no command line like that. (Microsoft declared command lines dead almost 20 years ago, but they've been an unconsionable time a dying).

  • I deleted my hard drive on my macbook pro

I am about to lose my mind if I don't find a solution. I have spent almost two weeks trying to find my hard drive on my mac.
I used bootcamp to install windows like an idiot and partitioned the hard drive, giving 80GB for windows and the rest for mac. Once I wanted that space on the mac side, I deleted almost everything for the windows side and I guess I accidentally deleted my mac hard drive. How do I know this? Well, when I tried to turn on my mac the following day, a blinking folder with a question mark kept blinking... and blinking... and blinking... I tried holding the following combinations: command-r; command-option-r; option; you get the idea. Nothing. I finally got everything working using the internet recovery mode by plugging in an ethernet cable. I got an empty 16GB USB (because when it asked where to reinstall OS X, it didn't even show the hard drive) and installed it on the little USB. It worked fine, now I have a mac again and a whole 5GB of extra space, but where in the **** is my hard drive?
I tried opening Disk Utility. No hard drive. I clicked on "About this mac" at the top right. No hard drive. I typed in the command in terminal: diskutil list. It shows:
GUID_partition_scheme; EFI; Apple_HFS Untitled 1; Apple_Boot Recovery HD. Was my hard drive shown? Nope.
I am out of ideas. I have gone through countless google searches, mac discussions, youtube videos(none of them addressed my question) and everything free that I can think of. I absolutely need help people.
I JUST WANT MY HARD DRIVE BACK! I DON'T CARE ABOUT THE DATA ON IT! I WANT THE OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE 500 GB OF SPACE AGAIN!
Please help me. I am about to lose my freaking mind.

  • Video Files Recorded on SD Card Used in Canon AVCHD Camcorder Not Visible Under Mountain Lion

    Hello:
Mountain Lion seems to treat the storage media (an SD card) used to record video in my Canon AVCHD camcorder differently than Mac OS X 10.7, 10.6 and 10.5.
When the card is inserted into the built in-card reader, it mounts as one would expect; however, a folder named "Private" appears and nothing seeems to be inside of it. If I use a machine running 10.7, 10.6, or 10.5, I'm able to drill down the fodler structure to the MTS files.
Anyone know of a way to tell 10.8 to see the data structure as 10.7 would?
I'm guessing that 10.8 wants me to use iMovie or Final Cut Pro X to access the video; however, the files need to remain as they are (i.e. mts files) and used in Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects.
This one is kind of obscure, I know.
    Thank you for any input.

    Let's see...
Sounds like you're running into an expected issue if you make an alias to removeable media.  The same thing would happen if you made the alias to a folder on a DVD-R disc or CD-R.  If you eject the original, you disable the alias.
If you copy the entire SD card volume to your drive, the PRIVATE package should copy across.  Then, as a folder on your hard drive rather than a volume on removeable media, you could make an alias to the STREAM package for quicker access later.
I'm pretty sure that Handbrake, like Prmeiere Pro, can see the MTS files directly.  That is, it's not dependant on the other folders in the PRIVATE directory sturcture.  As such, you could copy the contents of the STREAM package to another folder on your drive.  Just be mindful of the default MTS file names if you're using more than one SD card (you don't want to accidentally copy 00001.MTS from one card over 00001.MTS from another card).
As long as Handbrake sees MTS directly, you could even rename the MTS files after you've copied them.
On a side note, I almost always archive my SD cards with the data structure intact.  More often than not, that file structure is important to corretly access the video stored within that structure.  If something unexpected happens while working with the MTS files, it is good to have the original file structure to go back to.  Although, SD cards are getting to be so low cost that sometimes I just label the SD card and store it for archiving.

  • Mac Mini Get's Warm/Hot to Touch When Powered OFF

Question...Does your Mac Mini become WARM or HOT to the touch especially in the rear and on the bottom when the Mini is completely powered down, but still plugged into an outlet?
I leave mine turned off when not around it for extended periods of time. I don't usually leave any computer on when I'm gone for a while. Anyhow this past Wed. I came home and went to turn it on. It was incredibly warm on the rear side with all the connectors and especially on the bottom, but this was before the machine was even turned on.
The external power supply was warm and there was nothing unusual about that.
This is the new 2.0ghz mini and I've had it for less than two weeks. Do all Mini's get warm like this when they are turned off???? Cause that's really weird.

Please note that I was not quibbling with the characterization of your experiences - the early G5 iMac and iBook logic board issues alone are clear indications that sometimes Apple gets it wrong.
Whether lucky or not, I have not experienced these types of problems with Apple equipment, and along with my own systems I've bought and had responsibility for some thousands of them over the years - along with a fairly liberal dose of various PCs, and a probably similar lineup of earlier systems as you. I've found most to be reliable, and amongst all those, my 1986 vintage SE is still going strong, and one of my favorite systems is a late 1999 first generation G4 powermac which has run 24/7 since it was first unpacked - less a day for some upgrades to be fitted and the occasional update-derived reboot. My first-generation G5 DP has been superbly stable, never failing once, and it's a rare event that I get called to deal with a problematic Mac.
However, no number of positive experiences from others negates the negative you have experienced. The point is that for one side there is almost invariably a counterpoint. I must say, however, that if I had experienced a similar list of issues, I'd likely not have Apple written anywhere on my shopping list for future products - I suppose it speaks somewhat to the nature of the product when it works, that you're still a customer!
But still, all that aside, I would call Apple regarding the heating of the mini. That it might be warm to the touch after being off for a while would be expected, but I don't think it should show any greater signs of heat than that. Sadly I couldn't tell you for sure until early next week, since the one C2D we have is being kept busy! I will ask the user to shut it down at the end of the day however, and check it on Tuesday morning.

  • Lumia 720 - Highly Unreliable - phone, NOKIA servi...

    Hi Nokia team
I bought a new Lumia 720 from Spice Mobile Nokia dealer about 4 days ago and it has started giving problems now. My phone went dead even with full battery. It was really unexpected and disappointing that you buy a Rs. 18000 phone with no reliability of the phone or service. The dealer shirks of his earlier claims that he will replace my phone in the first 7 days of anny problem. He now clearly says no - such cheats you have your dealers as. They dont even know your policies or give false claims - marring your reputation in the market. Then I went to Nokia Care center only to find that they treated me with no sympathy but rudely to tell me that the phone can have such issues and that they dont have any policy to replace the phone. What they did only was to update the software and told me that the phone is fixed. But I have been finding this problem of the phone getting dead almost every day. After it is dead and we try to open it with all 3 buttons, it removes all my previous messages and calls data from the phone memory. It hangs at times when many applications are open. How unreliable it could be!! Or is it so badly that LUMIA works unlike shown in its advertisements?
Why the hell would I want to get my phone repaired right in the first week? Why cant Nokia do enough testing before releasing its handsets or just replace the phone when it is found faulty.
I have decided that if Nokia does not replace my phone now even, I will move to the Consumer Court against both Nokia and its dealer.
Please contact me asap if you want to save a particular consumer community. Yes, I am really frustrated by your product and service.
