Siebel Developer workstation - hardware recommendations

According to the SRSP for Tools client a minimum is a PII 500 or Celeron 800 with 512K. For the mobile client requirements is even less. I have installed Tools and mobile client on a Celeron 3Ghz, 480Mb memory for setting up a Developer.
Often the developer will have the client and tools open... When trying to work on this workstation it is very very slow...
Pls. what would be a "practical" hardware recommendation for a Developer workstation ?
Txs. Antonio

Hi,
Core 2 Duo or i3 with minimum 4GB memory is more than sufficient.
Actually, tools and client consume more RAM compare to processing.

Rajesh Kumar

  • SP2010 Foundation Post Install issues on development workstation - Database and Services

Just recently installed SP2010 Foundation for a development workstation.  Platform isWin7 X64 pro, SQL 2008 (Developer edition)
    (1) Looks like search has some configuration issues.  This is in the Windows event log
The Execute method of job definition Microsoft.SharePoint.Search.Administration.SPSearchJobDefinition (ID 38eefca2-d092-47f4-a833-23f8280c5f63) threw an exception. More information is included below.
    The device is not ready.
    (2) In Central Admin > Servers in Farm
    Status - "Upgrade Available",
    (3) In Central Admin > Manage Database Upgrade Status
Sveral of the Datbase(s) mention that upgrade is recommended, but one in particular mentions that the DB is too old?
    WSS_Search_GHHTY
    SPSearchDatabase
Database is too old and upgrade is required
    Huh?
    (4) Looking at my local SQL 2008 instance that SP2010 created, I see several DB's with "Config" in the name along with a guid on the end of the name.  Is the result of re-running the configuration wizard several times while
    I was correcting install issues?

here is question, i am assuming its fresh install not upgrade...
when you run the config wizard( you mentioned many times), which option you select from 2nd try to on ward....cannot disconnect this server from farm?
are you using any script to install ?
I would say run the config wizard without disconnecting and this server will host CA option.
from the central admin > manager server in farm...on top you will see farm version and config database name. note it
from the Manage database Upgrade status page note all the db names
now match it on sql and keep those and all other should gone now as a clean process.

    Hi Anushree,
Let me make it clear.  sorry for confusion
I<i> could not understand where u said "Please make sure that a JDK is installed on this host and that SAPINST_JRE_HOME points to the root

<i>Where exactly should the JDK be installed?</i>
    <b>Answer:</b> Installation error of NW04s
<i>Does it make any difference to install a different version of JDK when the installation guide clearly recommmends the usage of one version?</i>
Absolutely yes,,but It somehow worked for  08 for me. go ahead with 09 as per recommendation.
<i>Where can I find SAPINST_JRE_HOME? The installation no where asks for any input where I can mention the directory of Java installation</i>.
You can put environmental variable called SAPINST_JRE_HOME=<Your JDK Installation path> where ever  and make sure it's in the path, veryifying with PATH
on cmd-prompt. and follow the above URL as it clearly says the same problem
Also disable any ant-virus if it's running
    Hope that helps

  • I5 versus i7 for development workstation

I'm trying to design a new development workstation that will be used for local SQL Server development some of the time.
The shop goes back and forth between recommending the Intel i5 and i7 processors.  The main difference for my purposes is going to be that while they are both four-core processors, the i7 also supports hyperthreading so it can work as eight cores.
For local development purposes, do I care?  As soon as I'm actually doing development on a remote server, of course it doesn't matter at all.  And my IO configuration is never going to resemble a big corporate SAN - I may have nothing but two local
SSDs, actually, so my IO may be better, unless I intentionally buy a slower rotating disk or attach one via USB (pretty wild, isn't this all!?!)  And few companies are likely to want me to have real copies of their 100gb++ databases so the data
will never be exactly right, either.
So I think I've just talked myself into saving $100 and a little electricity by going with the i5!
    Anyone disagree?
    Thanks,
    Josh

    Hi Josh,
To be honest, if saving $100 is of particular importance then running i5s against i7s on a development box should not particularly be a great handicap to you. Having the same number of logical cores would be useful for parallelism testing of your queries
(and you same the numbers across each are the same), but obviously in these instances you should also have similar data sets so that your query plans are created the same (since these are based on the histogram distributions). In other words make sure you
have enough representive storage and memory, but i5s will be fine.

  • Reg: Mobile Development Workstation - Developer/license Keys

    Hi,
I have installed Mobile Development Workstation for CRM release 5.0 on my machine.
Now do I require any Developer license/keys for using this application,as we do for Developer/object keys?
If yes,how to get it from OSS?
    I am confused,please help.
    Rgs
    Ipsita.

So in case of using ADF, we should license Jdeveloper for each developer that uses it ?
Let's say we have 2 projects at different clients both being developed with ADF and 4 developers working for them in a central location, all of them developing the application with the Jdeveloper embedded OC4J.
Then for production we would have $5k per processor for each client + maintenance fees.
And for development the minimum is to pay $1000 in this case ?
So far I understood that while in development (and evaluation) we were able to use Jdeveloper and ADF for free, and when going into production then was where we need to pay the license.
Indeed in http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/htdocs/jdevpricefaq.html#14 it says: "Developers will continue to be able to run Oracle ADF applications on the OC4J instance included with JDeveloper for testing and debugging."
Anyone at Oracle that can clarify on this ?
    Thanks again,
    Claudio.

  • Hardware recommendations for Oracle server

I'm looking for hardware recommendations for a new Oracle database server. I'd like to have Active/Passive redundancy, so I imagine an external storage device is necessary. Does Oracle publish any hardware recommendations based on budget? I'm not sure what our budget would be but I can assume two database servers and a single external storage device in the $20k range.

Oracle does not publish any recommendations at all.
If they did, the recommendations would be based on load and expected performance characteristics, not based on budget.
Your best bet is to chose a vendor (Sun, IBM, HP, Dell) and ask them. Each of those vendors has a group that specializes in answering this kind of question.

  • PT8.51 HRMS 9.1 Developer Workstation

Does anyone have any suggestions/requirements for a new notebook PC that will be used as the main workstation for an upgrade to PT8.50 HRMS 9.1, 2 tier connection, SQL/Developer, then as developer workstation doing all types of Peoplesoft custom development, XML Reporter, some Java and web development also.
I find minimum requirements, but want something robust enough to carry me for a while, and don't want to undercut my estimate for resources, but need to justify what I request. (Linux/Oracle platform)

I'm still not sure to understand your needs, but anyway : any modern laptop with 64bit CPU, 4Gb RAM (min) and 250Gb HD (min).
Still Windows XP Pro is the one you should go to have supported config (and probably less issues over the different), otherwise Windows 7 and install some Virtual software to build supported guest OS (e.g. OEL), but that would required a little bit more memory and disk space.

  • Hardware recommendation for a real-time camera

    Hi All,
We are interested in using some cameras with LabVIEW real-time for some data acquisition. We are monitoring quite a large array of points for on/off signals (so a camera is easier to implement than an array of photodiodes). Our initial spec is a CCD, 640x480 chip and about 15fps. I'm guessing firewire or Gig-E as the interface as I've heard USB is not compatible with real-time.
Our plan is to develop the application to run under LabVIEW real-time on a PXI platform. We also hope to eventually deploy the system so we'd prefer not to use NI Vision (I'm not sure if this is possible or not). Similarly due to cost we'd prefer not to use the Embedded/Compact Vision Systems if we can avoid it.
Can anyone recommend a camera which they have used with LabVIEW real-time? I have no real experience with RT as yet so any advise at all would be a great help.
We are also hoping to deploy the system using a cRIO as the main hardware platform. I've seen real-time cRIOs  (http://sine.ni.com/nips/cds/view/p/lang/en/nid/208042) have Gig-E built in. Has anyone used a Gig-E camera directly with one of these controllers?
    Thanks for your help,
    Dave

    Hello DeltaJ,
Can I suggest that you contact the UK branch by calling 01635 523545 and request that you speak to you local Inside Sales Representative. They will be able to speak to you further regarding your full systems specifications and suggest which NI products will be best for you.

  • Senior Design HVAC trainer. Sensors and hardware recommendations.

I am working on a Senior Design project revamping an HVAC trainer.  It currently has a LonWorks server UNC-410-1 and two MNL-800 controllers.  It is our intension to interface with the current equipment and read the data into LabView for classroom LAB projects.  In this scenario, I understand that I have to have a LonWorks OPC server (software) in order to use LabView's OPC plugin to access the pins on the controllers.  However, I am uncertain as to what additional hardware I will need to interface with the unit.  I have seen equipment from Easylon such as the Easylon Ethernet Adapter that is designed for this purpose.  Obviously, since this is a senior design project, our budget is limited unless we are able to locate a sponsor do donate the hardware.  For this reason, I am researching alternative solutions to our problem.
The other alternative is to start over with NI hardware and manipulate the data in LabView.  I have researched what to use on the NI website such as the SCXI-1122 and SCXI-1322 termianl block.  This will require a chassy SCXI-1000, and a contoller SCXI-1600 USB.  The price for these items comes to around $3950.00.  I am hoping I can manipulate the data with a 32 voltage input DAQ instead.  I have acheived this with thermisters but have not attempted a pressure transducer nor a thermocouple.
I  will need to read in 12 thermolcouples and four pressure transducers for line pressure.  I would like a couple of outputs  in case I want to shut off the compressor or fan motor.  Any recommendations on what hardware I will need for this for the lowest cost possible?  Any other recommendations?
    Thanks,
    Richard

I live in Lombard, IL and have taken professional enrichment Certification Courses - LabVIEW Core 1 and Core 2 this past July.  My skills are fresh, sharp, and honed.  I have had several years of experience programming LabVIEW for companies like Motorola, Tellabs, and ElectroDynamics.  I have a full career developing Automated Test Equipment and a plethora of programming skills.  I am interested in your position on a full-time basis.

  • Hardware recommendations for capturing VHS / RCA composite better than Hauppauge USB?

    Hi folks,
I am trying to archive our old VHS tapes (NTSC 720x480 29.97 fps). I am using a $45 Hauppauge USB-Live-2 Video Capture. It's certainly adequate to see what's happenning in general, but it's also not as good as one would see e.g. playing these tapes on a TV. In particular, the right side of the image is missing some pixels (as though the right-most 20 or so pixels are blacked out, all up and down the right edge). Quite possibly, there are other subtler problems.
FWIW, I am doing the initial capture with AVS Video Recorder (to UYVY AVI format), then importing this (DV NTSC 720x480 29.97 fps) to PE11 and exporting to DV NTSC 720x480 29.97 fps MP4. PE11's MP4s are about 30% the size of the AVS AVIs.
Bill Hunt here recommended looking into DV Bridges (thanks, Bill!). However, I am not entirely sure what to look for. I found some Canopus devices on NewEgg, but they are $170, $200, or more. I'm not sure it's worth $200 just to save a 20-pixel edge on approximately 30 home videos. Anyway, can anyone point me toward hardware that works well with PE11 and VHS composite?
    Thanks if you can help!
    Mike

You get what you pay for.
I have been using a Canopus ADVC100 for almost 10 years, and have had 100% success right out of the box the first time I used it.  As noted above the model 55 (which wasn't available when I bought my unit) should be all you need.
Before I got the Canopus unit I tried several 'cheaper' (USB) devices but never got satisfactory repeatable reuslts.  Be sure you have at least a Firewire 400 connection.  If you need to add such a port make sure the device uses a TI chip to avoid conversion problems.  I purchased a " Syba Low Profile PCI-Express 1394b/1394a (2B1A) Card, TI Chipset, Extra Regular Bracket SD-PEX30009 " (which has both FW 400 & 800 ports) apprx $26 from Amazon.
By the way I use the Canopus to convert/capture both VHS and Hi8 analog tapes.

  • Looking for non-specific hardware recommendations

Let's start by saying I am an avid amateur photographer who uses Photoshop CS5 and Lightroom 4 on a Windows Laptop with the following specs:
    Windows 7 Home Premiium
    Intel i7 Q820 @ 1.73GHz
    8G ram
    750Gb hard drive 7200rpm
    ATI Mobility Radeon HD4670
    Bamboo pen tablet
Dell  SP2009W 20" monitor as primary display - laptop screen as secondary display
While this functions fine for now, the more I learn and use Photoshop, the slower and more annoying my system is becoming.  It is not uncommon for saving a single tiff file in PS to take 5 minutes.  I am considering building a new computer.  I am confident that I'm able to build a computer but the vast number of choices of hardware is where I get confused.  Also, I don't know which components are most important to run PS the fastest.
I've read through a bunch of posts of people asking "Is this system any good for Photoshop" or "which video card is better 4xx or 5xx" etc.  But that's not really what I need to know.  Does anyone have general advice on what's most important to PS?  RAM?  GHz? Scratch disks?
Thanks in advance for any and all help/suggestions.

If you put a system together yourself around a motherboard you can create a near-monster for 3 grand.
A really potent combination might be a motherboard based on i7-37xx or i7-39xx (which has great core speed), 16GB RAM with room to grow, 4 x OCZ Vector 256GB SSDs in RAID 0 for the system, applications, and working data, plus a spinning HDD for lower-access data (e.g., your photo library), ATI Radeon HD 7850.
Another possibility (which is the path I usually take) is to find high-end just-off-lease workstations (like Dell Precisions) on eBay.  Most folks don't realize that a previous generation system with all the highest-end parts can outperform the current generation designs with anything but the highest-end parts, and the price can be quite a bit less.
Just as an example:  I've bought from these people before:  http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dell-Precision-T5500-Dual-2x-Six-Core-6C-Xeon-2-80GHz-X5660-Quadro -4000-8-310-/251205144017?pt=Desktop_PCs&hash=item3a7cfe4dd1
You could ask to downgrade the Quadro 4000 video card to a base model, get your own e.g., ATI 7850, and spend the savings on SSDs.
