Siebel Upgrade - Change in OS

Hi,
We are planning to upgrade Siebel eCommunications from Siebel 7.5.3 to Siebel 8.0. Currently our siebel env runs on Windows platform. We are also planning to migrate to Solaris 10 during the upgrade.
Can you guys share your expereinces in similar kind of OS migration, what are pitfals,gotchs,etc.....
Also how it is going to affect the migration of Filesystem from Windows to Solaris.?
Thanks,
Madhu

Hi Madhu,
One thing you need to get right is picking the correct Solaris hardware.
Some of it has to do with things like raw core speed of the processors you are going to. On Intel for example you probably have a very fast core speed. On Solaris there is less emphasis on core speed and more emphasis on doing lots of things at the same time.
If you have a heavily eScripted Siebel application then core speed will mater and you will want to make sure you choose the correct Solaris server model.
You should checkout serverwatch.com for the server models you are considering. I would also benchmark your customized application on the new hardware before purchasing to make sure you pick the right model.
File system should not be an issue unless you have remote users then you have a bit more work.
Take care,

  • Why you want to be on 11g and not 10g on your Siebel upgrade large database

    Hi All,
Just realized the issue of adding new non nullable columns that normally is a huge issue on Siebel upgrades should go away with 11g since the way this is handled is totally changed. Other than tables like s_audit_item which has a CLOB column should allow these columns to be added very fast.
This is good reason to go with 11g instead of 10g if you are upgrading Siebel.
When you add a column, the initial value of each row for the new column is null. If
you specify the DEFAULT clause for a NOT NULL column, then the default value is
stored as metadata but the column itself is not populated with data. However,
subsequent queries that specify the new column are rewritten so that the default value
is returned in the result set.
This optimized behavior differs from earlier releases, when as part of the ALTER
TABLE operation Oracle Database updated each row in the newly created column with
the default value, and then fired any AFTER UPDATE triggers defined on the table.
However, the optimized behavior is subject to the following restrictions:
    ■ The table cannot have any LOB columns. It cannot be index-organized, temporary,
or part of a cluster. It also cannot be a queue table, an object table, or the container
    table of a materialized view.
    ■ The column being added cannot be encrypted

Ok well you need to get your facts straight. You say the reason to upgrade to OS 4 but half of these have to do with the new iPhone 4 and not the OS. Two totally different issues

  • Public Sector: Will this have any issues during Siebel upgrade?

    Hello,
We are using Siebel Public Sector application (Case Management) in our product.
Every contact who is Primary under a Contact will be associated to a Master Case. If there is no master case associated with primary contact, siebel will create a new master case. In other words, Contact to Master Case is 1:1 relationship.
We are in the process of developing a new requirement where in a Contact can be linked to one or more Master Cases (1:M). Since this is deviates Siebel OOB feature we do not want to change it.
Instead, we have created a new custom stand-alone Table (which mimics OOB Master Case columns) and a "New Custom BC".
Created a link betwen Contact BC and New Custom BC (Id -> Par Row Id).
In "New Custom BC", field called "Master Case Number"  has a dynamic picklist based on OOB "PUB Master Case" BC.
For other field we have mapped using pickmaps.
Our requirement is met but our only question is "Will this have any issues during Siebel upgrade?"
Quick responses will be very helpful.

Thank you for your reply.  I only see three versions of Adobe Reader available for Windows XP SP3 at the Adobe site
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/otherversions
In doing some research, it seems there were some issues if you skipped an update but I did not find any information (only other queries) as to my original question of compatibility.  Also, how can we access the older file if it won't open in 10.1.2?
Can I load 10.1.2 in addition to their older version to check and see what will or will not open correctly before I uninstall the older version?  I don't want to load the new version and then have them not be able to access a needed file...

  • IPod sync problems after hard-drive upgrade/change

    Hello all,
    Can anyone PLEASE help?
I have just had my hard drive upgraded/changed from the original 640GB drive to a new 2TB drive. I've also had an additional 4GB of RAM added to now give me 8GB RAM.
Absolutely everything else seems to be working fine (unusual for me and I'm often at the end of bad luck in such circumstances). The only thing I'm having problems with is syncing my iPod Classic with iTunes. Incidentally, I have the latest version of iTunes and my iPod software was up to date  the last time I checked.
Before I go further, my system specs are:
    iMac
    24-inch, Early 2009
Processor  2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory  8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce 9400 256 MB
    Software  OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2 (12C60)
When  I connect my iPod Classic, the iPod screen initially shows  'Synchronisation in progress' (or whetver similar wording it actually  is)... but this is just very briefly. It then indicates "Connected", and  that's the way it stays and doesn't change at all.
It takes time to actually show up in iTunes, and when it does, I now have to very quickly click the iPod button (to bring up the iPod screen on iTunes) before the pointer turns into the spinning beach ball.
Now, it hangs... and hangs... and hangs... and hangs.
During this, I notice that "Manually manage music and videos" is ticked (which I didn't have ticked before), and also 'Enable disc use' is also ticked, although greyed out.
Occasionally, the spinning beach ball will disappear and the pointer will return, but this is very very briefly and I have a split-second to try unticking - first - the "Manually manage music and videos" box and then - later, if I'm lucky - untick the 'Enable disc use' box. However, on the odd occasion I've managed this, I haven't been able to go further except for two occasions when I managed to click "Apply". The iPoid on those to occasions started to update... but went nowhere... it just did nothing.
When the thing finally just hangs and hangs, I eventually have to 'force quit' iTunes and unplug the iPod without first ejecting. There was one other occasion when I managed to - split-second when the spinning beach ball disappeared - to click "eject" and the iPod succesfully did so.
There were a couple of occasions in the past when I had trouble with my iPhone and was told to delete/trash the iPhone photo cache folder. Remembering this, I tried this for the iPod (iPod photo cache) and it made no difference... same situation.
I did notice on one occasion at the beginning of all this that when I managed to unplug my iPod from iTunes, all the album covers were missing from the iPod (although still in iTunes). This was long before I tried deleting the iPod photo cache folder though.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Best regards
    BionicDan

First things first the spinning beach ball is usually an indication that Search is going nuts.
Turn off Search entire Library by clicking on the downward pointing arrow to the right of the Magnisying glass and untick Search entire library.
Is your music still in iTunes on your new hard drive or is it only on your ipod?
If it is in your itunes then you should be able to plug in the iPod and uncheck Manually Manage music and sync
If the music is only on the ipod connect up as above click on the device and Drag all the music from your device to the library. then you can uncheck manually manage music and sync as normal

  • Can't upgrade/change/install versions of Flash Player? To ZoneAlarm users here's a fix.

For the past couple of weeks now I've been plagued with the
problem of not being able to properly upgrade my flash player to
version 9. I'd get pass the installation, sure, but they'd be
corrupted installations. I can't view some flash websites and they
keep telling me to install flash player, even when I have version
9! At least that's what the computer is telling me.
After scouring all over the internet for similar problems,
I've noticed more and more correlations between these cases.
Another dilemma plagued me soon after, I realized I couldn't change
    my homepage as well!
Then I read the different cases of other people and what was
striking was that they seemed to all use ZoneAlarm firewall
products. I soon find that the new OS firewall feature of the
    product is the suspect.
For those ZoneAlarm firewall users (specifically with the
retail versions with the OSFirewall feature), OSFirewall might be
locking your internet settings, startup programs, host file, but
most importantly, your ActiveX files! Zone Labs included this
feature to make the product that much more hardheaded, but they
don't realize that we, the users, need these files as well.
The fix is easy. Just navigate to Program Control in
ZoneAlarm (I'm using Pro). In the Main tab, you should see "Program
Control" options. Below that, there is a "Custom" button. Click
that and navigate to the "OSFirewall" tab. Viola! There's those
turds. Left clicking on the second column of the options will give
choices of permission. If you want to make sure that this
superfluous feature doesn't mess your settings again, I suggest you
give all of them "Allow" (check marks) permissions.
NOTE: Even if you disable "Program Control" or OSFirewall,
you still need to enable OSFirewall and change the permissions.
That's because the settings of permission will still be locked to
the current ones. Basically, even if you disable OSFirewall and
have the setting "Install ActiveX" as deny, it's still in denial
permission. Check Marks all the way.
If you still experience problems, and you still feel that
ZoneAlarm is causing the problems, I suggest you go the "Programs"
tab of Program Control. There, you can view all the applications
you've ran your PC. Search "Macromedia" or "Flash" related files
and give them all acces to the internet and full permissions. If
you're not sure, Delete all of the non-Microsoft programs listed to
reset those settings. When you install Flash Player again and you
see the permission requests, just "Allow" them.
P.S. OSFirewall is not available on the free version of
ZoneAlarm. Also, to make sure that ZoneAlarm is causing the
problems, run a comprehensive spyware and anti-virus scan. Most of
the time malware causes these problems as well. Happy
    Computing!

  • Oracle 11.2.0.3.0 Database Upgrade changes DATA_PUMP_DIR

Along with existing RMAN backups we do Exports - of our DB using and OS User and Oracle Wallet.
Of the DB's we have upgraded the Data Pump Directory
Select * from dba_directories; (there are other commands to get this info as well).
I captured screens from the DBUA upgrades, but did not see an option to change this information.
Is there a way to feed this information to the install moving forward. IE, ./DBUA -silent ?
Also, anyone tracked the percentage of storage increase from 10.2/11.1 to 11.2.
All the ones we did grew, so be aware.
    Thanks in advance!

Are you stating that the upgrade process is changing or resetting data in DBA_DIRECTORIES ? It should not - if you have documented this experience, pl report it to Support - it may be a known bug or a new one.
The increase in size of the database should only be restricted to SYSTEM and SYSAUX tablespaces (and possibly TEMP and UNDO), but user tablespaces should see no increase.

  • Siebel responsibilities changes will not take effect unless restarting serv

I am having a problem in Siebel where I change the responsibility for a user and then I go to Application administration--.responsibilities and clearing the cache for the changes to take effete however the changes are not taking effect unless I restart the Siebel application services which I cannot do anytime I need to change the responsibility for a user especially that I have 3 Siebel servers. If anyone experienced this issue of have a solution I would appreciate the assistance. I am having this issue in 3 environments, dev test and prod. I am using LDAP authentication for the Call Center AOM and one of my test labs I am using DB authentication but I am having this problem as well.
Thanks in advance for the assistance.

The reason is most likely due to the fact that you ObjectManager Session is running within a different MT Server process then that of the other use. When you click the clear cache button it only clears the Responsibility cache of the Object Manager process (PID) where you session is running. This would explain the reasoning shared about the multiple languages as when connected to theENU object manager you'd be clearing that object managers cache but not for the other languages.
This however would only be working if there were only a single Object Manager process running per language.
If you are familiar with the Server Management/Configuration screens you could try doing a Server Component Reconfiguration for the Object Manager in question, then asking the user to logout and log back in. The Reconfiguration process will allow currently running user sessions to continue while new session will be directed to a new Process Id (PID) - aka Multi-Threaded(MT) Server process for the Object Manager.
This should take care of all instances of the Object Manager across Servers within your enterprise without requiring a Server Restart.

  • ERP Upgrade: Changes in Reporting in new version ECC6.0

    Hi Gurus,
We are just in upgrade process from 4.7c to ECC 6.0. During the test we ascertained that there are certain changes happened in the reporting functions und the reports are not showing some necessary fields in new version. For instance the reports RFDOPO00 and RFKOPO00 are replaced by RFDEPL00 and RFKEPL00 in ECC 6.0, which do not show some important fields of old report. SAP says they are standard reports in ECC 5.0 /6.0.
How can we maintain old reports (in general, not specifically these above mentioned reports) from 4.7c in our new upgraded system ahead instead of new reporting standard of ECC6.0.
Please tell me the steps to solve this problem.
    Regards
    SIM

No, there is slightly difference in reporting between both versions ERP 4.7C and ECC 6.0. For instance in old version 4.7c we can produce reports (RFDOPO00 and RFKOPO00) with Subtotal and Total by currency by making check mark on both these items. In new version this items has been removed. There are also some more items which are not offered by SAP in new version.
As we have decided to keep some old reports in new system, Can you therefore please tell me how we can keep the old reports in new version?

  • Siebel Upgrade 7.8 to 8.1 - Merge Repository step error.

We are upgrading Siebel 7.8.2.14 to 8.1 and I get these errors at step "Repository Merge":

!!ERROR::The same values for 'Column Name' already exist.

Object being added to the new repository!!ERROR::SBL-DEV-62125: REQUIRED FKey not found in 'New Customer Repository'
I am not sure if these are benign errors or not. Can you please help us fix the issue?

Is there any more information in the Application Upgrader screens that you can post up? Have you gone through the logs? They tend to be huge, after a repository merge, but you might find something to help identify the problem.

  • Upgrade & change of language

    Hi there!
I´d like to upgrade my CS5 master collection (german version) to CS6 (english version). Is that possible or are there problems changing the languange of an upgrade?
    greetings & many thanks!
    p.

You'd have to contact Adobe directly to get information regarding pricing differences... it might be that pricing differences are geographical in nature and you'll pay the same price based on that.
Here are some links to help make contact:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/chat/ivrchat.html
    http://www.adobe.com/support/download-install/supportinfo/
If the English versions are much cheaper, and you say you want the English version, not the German, why would you buy the cheaper (English) versions and then swap it for a different language? If anything sounds suspiscious...... *cough*

  • ECC 6.0 Upgrade & changes required in programs

In case of a version upgrade to ECC 6.0, the programs would need to be changed. Some changes in the programs would be required to meet unicode compliance, while some changes would be required due to version upgrade (constructs becoming obsolete, etc). I guess the unicode related issues could be found by using the UCCHECK transaction and then resolved by making changes and again checking using this transaction, but is there some way to find out what issues would arise due to version upgrade? (The programs work fine in the lower version which is 4.6c). One way would be to actually check the programs in runtime and then handling the issues faced. But if we don't want to test all the programs, then is there some tool, or any best practice which would minimize the chance of having issues in the programs (and might be in help in solving the issues)?

SAMT is a transaction that will allow you to create sets for syntax check. We generally do it for Z* and Y* objects if the count does not exceed 3000.
Batch objects are the BDCs and Conversions as explained by Hema. Earlier upgrades had more than 80% of these objects failing becuase the screens may have changed or the screen fields may be missing, screen flow changed ... But now it has reduced especially from 46c to Ecc6 upgrade. However it still warrants testing them thoroughly.
Clones are copies of standard SAP objects in Z space and modified. These objects generally tend to have standard includes within them or the program definition may still have the original SAP name. It is tricky to find all of them but simple rules like matching name strings (eg SAPMV45A -> ZAPMV45A or Z_SAPMV45A) would help. It may vary from customer to customer depending on their naming standards.
Standard function modules used in the program can be easily found out using SCAN command in ABAP (see my example for SCAN in code snippets). Use the list of function modules identified and pass to the program below to see if their interfaces have changed. Test all objects affected by changed interfaces.

  • I cannot open PDF links in Firefox. However, I can open those same links with Internet Explorer. This failure has happened since downloading FF 4.0. What did that "upgrade" change so that these PDF links do not open?

I use TD Waterhouse Webbroker, which has links to PDF documents. These links have always opened - that is until I "upgraded" to the latest Firefox version (I think it's 4.0). Now those same PDFs do not open. I cross-checked with the arch enemy, Internet Explorer. Those same PDFs opened in Internet Explorer. So Firefox, what did you do in the latest "upgrade" that has altered the way the browser handles PDF files on Webbroker??

Hi tlaclair, when I click that link, here is what I see (observed using the Fiddler2 program, which intercepts web traffic between your browser and websites):
    (1) The server at link.p0.com sets 1 cookie and redirects to http://t.mookie1.com/t/v1/event?migClientId=181&migAction=email-click&migSource=mig&migDest=http%3a%2f%2forder.dominos.com
    (2) Firefox follows the redirect and the server at t.mookie1.com sets 3 cookies and redirects to http://order.dominos.com
    (3) Firefox follows the redirect and the server at order.dominos.com redirects to a secure session ([https://order.dominos.com/])
These kinds of redirects are completely standard; if you set Firefox to warn you about redirects, then a bar usually appear below the address where you can click an Allow button to continue. You can check whether you have this feature turned on here:
orange Firefox button ''or'' classic Tools menu > Options > Advanced > General
If Firefox isn't blocking the redirect, it's possible that one of your add-ons is doing it. A standard diagnostic for interference by add-ons is to try Firefox's Safe Mode.
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [[Backing up your information]]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
Next, restart Firefox in Firefox's Safe Mode ([[Safe Mode]]) using
Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
In the Safe Mode dialog, do not check any boxes, just click "Continue in Safe Mode."
If the link works correctly, this points to one of your add-ons or custom settings as the problem.
    Any change?

  • 10.5.6 upgrade changes AFP admin sharing

A posting from a few months ago asked about how to allow AFP access to root directories instead of share points, and this article was mentioned about changing the admin31GetsSp pref: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2255 While the article was written for server 10.4, I tried it and it worked for 10.5 (which is what I'm running). Fast forward to last night, when I applied the 10.5.6 upgrade on my server.
Now when I try to log in via AFP (from a 10.5.6 client) with an admin account, I'm still presented with the volumes on the server, not the sharepoints, BUT once I mount the volume, I can no longer see the sharepoints on that volume!
e.g. volume "A" has sharepoints "share 1" and "share 2." Before the 10.5.6 upgrade, I would mount volume "A" on my client and have access to every folder on that volume, including shares "1" and "2". After 10.5.6, I still mount volume "A", and can access every folder on the volume except shares "1" and "2." In fact, those folders aren't even visible! (And yes, the local admin login I'm using is a member of the groups that have access to all sharepoints).
    Thanks!
    Ed

I am setting up a new 10.5.6 Server and just noticed this. I have admin31GetsSp = no. When I connect (AFP) I get the list of volumes. When I mount the volume containing my sharepoints I usually see only one of the seven sharepoints I should see. If on the client machine I use the Finder 'Go to folder' and enter the path (/Volumes/etc....) I can get to the sharepoints. Even weirder is to open a terminal window on the client, cd to the mounted volume and do an ls. I see five identical copies of one of the sharepoint folders. I can cd into the folders which should be there but don't show up. For example on my machine, with the 'lacieraid' volume from my server mounted as an admin:
    tribble:/volumes/lacieraid rhaines$ ls -l
    total 112
    drwxr-xr-x 72 rhaines rhaines 2404 Jan 6 15:55 toarchive
    drwxr-xr-x 72 rhaines rhaines 2404 Jan 6 15:55 toarchive
    drwxr-xr-x 72 rhaines rhaines 2404 Jan 6 15:55 toarchive
    drwxr-xr-x 72 rhaines rhaines 2404 Jan 6 15:55 toarchive
    drwxr-xr-x 72 rhaines rhaines 2404 Jan 6 15:55 toarchive
    tribble:/volumes/lacieraid rhaines$ cd pub
    tribble:/volumes/lacieraid/pub rhaines$ ls
Callie Josh NRoberts Network Trash Folder TheVolumeSettingsFolder
Now 'pub' is one of the sharepoints in my lacieraid volume. I don't know if this happened with any previous version of 10.5 server because I didn't stop off at the earlier versions long enough to notice this. It would be nice to know that this is a bug affecting only volumes mounted by admins.
