Sig update notification and frequency
Hi Experts,
What's the process by which IDS customers find out when new signatures (and service packs) are available? Is it the responsibility of the customer to check periodically or does Cisco automatically notify IDS customers?
Also, approx how often do new signatures become available and what's the trend been like? More often? Less often?
Thanks for any feedback.
You can sign up for IDS Active Update Notification from here:

The updates come out once a week or more.

I received update notification and started to download it on my iphone 5 but it says it takes 3 hours
Well, right now, Apple is getting loads of people who are trying to download the new update. My iPod is doing the same thing, so, just wait an hour or two and then try again. It may take a while to veryify the update, and even longer to actually download it. Some people at my school updated their OS in study hall, while others were having the same problem you were. It should be fixed soon, just relax...

Updates, Resets, and Replacements
I wish I could create a sticky thread on these topics as so many of the same questions get re-asked over again. It also seems that I'm offering the same answer to a lot of people. I'll try to be as thorough as possible here so that I can reference this post in the future for people and save time.
Update and Resets
A lot of problems come with the solutions it seems whether its a small update or a large OS version change. Usually the first thing I do is to Factory Reset the phone first as soon as I get the OTA Over The Air update notification and before downloading. I then reboot and let the phone begin setup, but go to settings quickly to turn off mobile data and allow WiFi only for the time being. I then accept the update and may even FDR again after that to make sure it was clean. But, sometimes I get too excited or just accidentally accept the update before resetting the phone. I also seem to remember a time it just auto-updated and installed without me giving permission. Point is, you can't disable the system updater and you'll have to take it eventually.
Also regarding updates: When updates are installed they essentially re-write the recovery partition of the phone. Think of it like when you flash the BIOS of a PC. It's hard-written and is forever changed. So, if you had a bad install then there is really no use in an FDR multiple times to attempt to fix it. It won't revert or re-install. All I know is to have a full charge, good WiFi strength (Mobile data uses data from plan) and to just accept the update and leave it alone until it completes. All the resetting before or after is recommended by most folks, but VZW says it's not a must do type of thing.
Replacement Phones
I know we all bought new phones and hate having to be given a replacement phone often or always being a refurbished phone thinking we are getting someone else's headache. I have yet to run into, but have heard of stories, where the phone you receive is a previously trashed unit physically speaking. It is doubtful LG and VZW would spend much money on replacing much more than a part, maybe two on a refurb unit. Most ALL units were units with software issues and were easily re-flashed at the factory or repair center. the point is, even if you return your unit to LG and wait the 1-2-3 week(s) turnaround for a repair and pay the shipping costs to and or from, if any, then when you receive your repaired phone you now have a refurbished phone as well.
Contacting Verizon
If and when you decide to contact Verizon, I suggest you do so in this order: Chat online from the Contact Us link at the top of the right side of screen on the VZW homepage, log into your account and choose the Live Chat option. Secondly, try the phone, and lastly take it to a store. Problem with going to a store is there will be a wait time usually, there aren't many "techs" in the store, there isn't much they will do other than try to reset your phone while you wait and they move on to another customer until your phone is back up and running, then check it for the usual app conflicts and whathaveyou. At that point you'll be frustrated (unless you got an attentive rep) and they will end up sending you home with a signed sheet of paper saying your replacement will be sent to you and you send back the defective unit in their box pre-paid. Also, when using the phone option to call VZW, you'll need a different phone to call them on because they will want to troubleshoot your issue and cannot with the phone being used.
Conclusion
I hope some folks get to read this. I admit I may have missed something, but it seems that almost all smartphone issues are software related usually. In most cases a reset works fine, but if you just got an update on your system, then usually resets don't work and you need to contact VZW due to the one year warranty with them. If it is after that period they may still assist, IDK because I have always bought Asurion insurance and have never had to worry about the 2nd+ year as the warranty is extended as long as I pay the monthly fee.Snn5 wrote:

Welcome to the club, Snn5! I've been around here for awhile - sticky posts, FAQ's, How to posts.... all well and good if folks would actually search and READ them. But they don't. They just ask their question... so those of us who are here to help out and answer questions end up, like you, posting the same replies, endlessly. A sticky or FAQ isn't going to change that. So, bookmark your favorite replies and useful info, learn the shortcuts to adding it to a reply, and accept that nothing will change.

App Store Update Notifications Help
Hello all.
First time poster and first time apple product owner. I just bought an iPad (3rd Gen) last week. I'm hooked and absolutely love it. I am having an issue with two apps in regards to their update notifications in the app store. The twitter app and hbogo app currently show that an update is available. When I click update or update all, I am prompted to enter my password and after doing so i receive the Could Not Connect to iTunes Store message. This is only happening for these two apps. Moments ago I had 6 update notifications and when hitting update all the four other apps updated and two notifications remain for twitter and hbogo. I checked these forums already and was unable to find anything on the issue. Any insight into this problem would be appreciated. My thanks in advance.
Sincerely,
Satisfied Apple UserRebooting one's iPad can often cure odd issues. To reboot, press and hold BOTH the power and home buttons at the SAME time for at least 10 seconds (ignore the red slider to shut down) until the Apple Logo appears, then let go of both buttons and your iPad will restart. You will not lose any data or settings. See if you can update both apps after your iPad comes back up.
If that does not help, the next suggestion would be to delete the two apps, then redownload them. Once you've purchased or downloaded an app, it stays in your Apps Library and can be redownloaded at anytime in the future. To delete an App, hold your finger on any app until all apps start to jiggle. You'll see an X on the upper right hand side of the apps you can delete (native apps can never be deleted) and all you do is touch the X and you'll be asked if you are sure, say yes, and the app will be deleted. Then go to your purchased tab in iTunes and redownload the apps. -
AppStore Update notification hernia.
My App Store shows an update from Angry Birds. The App was purchased with a different ID and has been deleted from my iTunes and purchases. I still get the update notifications and I can't seem to get rid of them using either of the two IDs
It is extremely irritating as the only place the app exists is in my update notifications. If I click on it, I am redirected to the Angry Birds page and prompted to purchase the app. How do I remove this notification? You may have installed a hacked app, originally from the Mac App Store. It contains the receipt for a different app, downloaded using an account that you don't control. You need to identify and remove the hacked app.
Important: The app you need to remove is not necessarily the one named in the App Store alert. For example, the App Store could prompt you to update "Angry Birds" or "Twitter," but the hacked app could be "Final Cut Pro." Don't make any assumptions about which app you're looking for. To find it, you must carry out a systematic search with Spotlight.
1. Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
kMDItemAppStoreHasReceipt=1
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
2. In the Finder, press command-F to open a search window, or select
File ▹ Find
from the menu bar. In the search window, select
Search: This Mac
from the row of tokens below the toolbar. Below that is a popup menu of search criteria, initially showing Kind. From that menu, select
Other...
A sheet will drop down. In that sheet, select
Raw Query
as the criterion, then click OK or press return.
Now there will be a text box to the right of the menu of search criteria. That's where you enter the raw search query. Click in that box and paste the text you copied earlier by pressing command-V.
3. The search window will now show all the App Store products that are installed. Compare those search results with the list of your purchases from the App Store. To see the complete list, you may need to unhide hidden purchases. If any apps were download from the App Store using other Apple ID accounts that you control, sign in to the store under each of those ID's and check the purchases.
4. At least one of the apps in the Spotlight search results is not among your purchases in the App Store. Move each such item to the Trash, after quitting it if it's running. You may be prompted for your administrator password. Empty the Trash.
5. Quit and relaunch the App Store. Test.
If you find these instructions confusing, ask for an alternative method. -
I updated my iphone 5 to ios 6.something (something about the speakers) to get rid of a notification and it went into recovery mode!!! My photos are not backed up or on icloud. i havent restored yet because i cannot lose my photos/videos, etc. but tinyumbrella wont work to exit recovery mode. HELP! please:(
i tried tinyumbrella (and another similar software) to exit recovery but it only remains on the apple logo stuck there. please is there anything else i can do? i've contacted apple and they have told me the only choice i have is to restore and lose all my data.
my iphone isn't jailbroken and i've updated before without this problem so i'm not sure what has happened. is there anyyy hope please ???First I would try to hold down the power and the home button for about 15sec, but at least as long as the iPhone restarts, if it is still stuck or still in recovery mode then I can suggest you the tool "Wondershare Dr. Fone for iOS", it is both a Windows and Mac tool and I just used it today to get my iPad out of the Recovery mode.
Tell me if any of these options worked for you. -
That's quite a title I created! Sorry, I've never submitted a question before! ☺ I do not want to update to the latest iOS (Asian language stuff) which is useless to me and I don't want to waste space on my iPhone 4S and iPad 5. I want to be able to "Select All" updates instead of doing each update individually. It's a real pain in the you-know-what. Does anyone know how to I remove this notification (and any other updates I'm not interested in) from the Updates page? Thanks so much everyone!
Thanks so much for your time! I wish you had a more positive answer, but c'est la vie! I hate the fact that I cannot control my apps and feel like a hostage of the developer(s). I've read other forums and some responses were "then delete the app!" Lame answer! So thank you so much for your respectful and insightful reply! Cheers.

I have an iPad 3rd gen. A carrier settings update notification has appeared on my screen, and it doesn't do anything when I press either 'update' or 'not now' . Because the notification is still there, I am unable to use any apps or shut it down. What should I do?
Have you tried a reset by pressing and holding the sleep/wake button and the home button for 20 seconds (maybe longer) until the Apple logo appears, ignore the red slider. Then turn back on. You won't lose any data doing the reset.

After updating to iOS 8 notification and control center won't open when unlocked
Ever since I updated my iPhone 5s to iOS 8, the notification and control center will not open while my phone is unlocked. I checked to see if I had it disabled in settings and it turns out I did not. I switched the Access Within Apps as well as the Access While Locked on and off anyway but still nothing. I can only pull the notification and control center open while my phone is locked... it is extremely annoying. I know I'm not the only one though because my friend who updated to iOS 8 on his 5c was having the exact same problems. Some help would be much appreciated. Thank you!
So yesterday vibration suddenly started working again, after nearly two weeks with the problem above. I have no idea why, I didn't change any settings and the only app that was updated yesterday was Facebook messenger...

Disable update notification for Flash Player 15.x and newer
Dear all
We run a Citrix Environment (on Windows 2008 R2) and we have our monthly update window. Users complain that they get update notifications for Flash Player when a new version is available but they cannot install the update since they have no permissions to install or update any software on our locked down Citrix environment. We tried already all availabe guides regarding "disable update notification for Flash Player" but no guide seems to work with the latest Version 15.x.
Which registry key's oder files do we have to modify with what values to finally disable update notifications for Flash Player.
Thanks a lot for your help! Please check out the System Administrator's Guide for a list of possible approaches:

Flash Player installation and update questions and answers
How do I verify that I have the latest version of Flash Player?
If you receive a message that tells you that Flash Player is out of date or a new version of Flash Player is available, you can verify this by visiting the Flash Player Help page with your browser.
Simply click the "Check Now" button and you'll be presented with a short message and detailed information regarding your Flash Player installation.
Where should I download the latest version of Flash Player?
Because malware authors will often employ misleading tactics to make malware look like something you should trust, it's important to get your Flash Player updates directly from Adobe.
Please verify that your Flash Player downloads and updates come from only the adobe.com or macromedia.com domains. You can always download the latest version of Flash Player directly from https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer
I've selected the automatic update option in Flash Player, why do I continue to get update notifications?
Periodically, users are presented with the Flash Player update dialog notifying them that a new version of Flash Player is available for download from adobe.com.
The automatic update mechanism is used for some updates, security patches that address zero-day vulnerabilities and when users, who have selected to be updated automatically, have not updated within 45 days after a regularly scheduled update release of Flash Player.
What should I expect when I receive notification that Flash Player has an update available?
When a major update to Flash Player becomes available you will be presented with a Flash Player update dialog
After reviewing new features, pressing the Download button will open your default browser and load the Install Adobe Flash Player page.
Clicking the "Update now" or "Install Now" button will then take you to the next page which will start the download process and give instructions for completing the Flash Player install.
Finally, once the installation is complete your browser will display a page confirming a successful installation.
If you encounter installation problems, we recommend you review our Windows and Mac OS installation help documents. Further questions and information can be found on the Flash Player installation forums.
Why does Adobe Flash Player installer include the option to download additional software?
Adobe offsets the ongoing development costs of Flash Player, which is made available for free, by offering users the option to download select software from Adobe partners.
What options do I have when installing or updating Flash Player?
You have a few different options available when updating Flash Player. We recommend that you choose "Allow Adobe to install updates (recommended)" when initially setting up Flash Player
or by going into the Flash Player control panel and choosing this option in the Advanced tab.
Once selected, most updates will occur in the background without requiring any interaction. For those regularly scheduled major update releases, you will be presented with an update notification dialog
If you decide not to update, you will receive an automatic update within 45 days if you have the "Allow Adobe to install updates" option selected. Please note that when this update occurs, only Flash Player will be installed.
If you want to be notified about every Flash Player update, select "Notify me to install updates" when initially installing Flash Player or from the Advanced tab in the Flash Player control panel.
Finally, if you'd prefer not to receive any updates, select "Never check for updates (not recommended)". We do not recommend this option as we believe keeping your system up to date improves both security and stability when using Flash Player.
For network Administrators we offer additional update options, including the ability to host your own internal Flash Player update server. Please see our Flash Player distribution page and Flash Player Administrator guide for details.Sunil, I just want to verify you are pointing me to the link under "Progress bar hangs during download / Unable to connect to server / Unable to download metafile."
If yes, then that is the file I originally downloaded based on a March post I saw here.
I just tried it again, and it (by "it" I mean the Flash Player Plug-in (All other browsers from download.macromedia.com) installed 11.6.
After the installation process completed, the dialog box notified me it was version 11.6, and when I went back to, the "find version" page, 11.6 was confirmed.
I did not download the exe for Internet Explorer, as I almost never use that browser. -
Link Between Service Notification and Sales Order
Hi All,
In our business process, we will create sales order from Service Notification and we can see the same in the Document flow. But when i check in the VBFA table, there are no entries. I would like to know how the document flow is updated without updating the VBFA Table or is there any other table gets updated for this flow.
Please guide me.
With Regards
Vinu.NHello Vinu
For one Sales Order # figures in Notification header table- VIQMEL-VBELN.
Similarly Notification # figures in Sales Order Header table- VBAK-QMNUM
That is a solid link right there.
I Also guess technical objects like Equipment, Serial number also form link between the Sales and Service Documents.
Also check out the logic in document flow program RIBELF20, may be it will give you the clues to the problem.
Hope this helps.
