Sign in problem ( in enterprise linux on Vmware)

I am new to oracle . i am using vmware and have installed RHEL 4 in it . and i have been working on oracle 10g release 2 . it worked fine for a couple of months
I have oracle and root user ids.
when i try to login as oracle it shows me the below message
"Your session only lasted less than 10 seconds. If you have not logged out yourself, this could mean that there is some installation problem or that you may be out of diskspace. Try logging in with one of the failsafe sessions to see if you can fix this problem"
it tells me to check the ~/.Xsession-error file ... i neither could locate this file .
But i could login as root and use the oracle account and start the DB listeners etc .
any help will be very good

This doesn' seem to be an Oracle but an OS issue.

  • Enterprise linux on vmware workstation

    hello gurus,
    I have installed Oracle Enterprise Linux on Vmware Workstation 5 with 1.5 GB memory and a disk of 20 GB. When the virtual machine is running it stops responding in a regular frequency. It seems like some process is running in the background taking up all cpu-time. I can't find what is bothering the system. Is this a known issue?

    Hi,
    Please try to run a top command from shell, and check what is eating the CPU.
    Cheers,
    Alin

  • How to install Oracle Enterprised Linux on VMware PLayer 4

    Hi Everyone,
    My name is John and I've a small issue which I would like to share with you and hopefully, you are able to assist.
    My laptop is installed with a Window 7 Home Edition operating system and I've installed VMware-player-4.0.2. After reboot, I've also downloaded the file - V29609-01 which is the ISO file of Oracle Enterprise Linux 6.2.
    After that, I've tried to create a Virtual Machine - Oracle Enterprise Linux using the VMware Player by specifying the path and file name of the V29609-01.iso file on my local c:\ drive. I've tried it several times, but every time it just returns the message - 'pxe-e53 no boot filename received' and it just hangs there without proceeding further. Please let me know what I've done wrong and the correct steps and procedures to solve this problem as this is my first time installing a Linux operating system. Thank you for your assistance.
    Regards,
    John

    Hi,
    Can you clarify and explain what is your exact meaning of 'Are you sure you've added the ISO to the VM to boot from?'? Because the following is what I did:
    1.) Click the Create A New Virtual Machine.
    2.) Select the 'Install disc image file (iso):' option and enter the full path of the V29609-01.iso (Oracle Enterprise Linux 6.2) file that I've downloaded from https://edelivery.oracle.com/. But underneath it, that is a message saying - 'Could not detect which operating systems is in this dsic image. You will need to specify which operating system will be installed.'
    3.) Click 'Next'.
    4.) I chose "Linux' under the Guest operating system and chose 'Oracle Enterprise Linux' under the Version drop down.
    5.) Click 'Next'.
    6.) I left the Virtual machine name as 'Oracle Enterprise Linux' and click 'Next'.
    7.) I set the Maximum disk size to 300 GB and have the 'Split virtual disk into multiple files' option selected and click 'Next'.
    8.) I have the 'Power on this virtual machine after creation' checked and click 'Finish'.
    9.) A black screen displayed inside the VMware Player saying:
    'CLIENT MAC ADDR: 00 0C 289 ......
    PXE-E53: No Boot filename received
    PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel PXE ROM.
    Operating System not found
    10.) And the process just hangs there.
    Regards,
    John

  • "No device drivers" problem during Enterprise Linux installation

    I want to try and see Oracle Enterprise Linux, so I downloaded prepared for the setup. This is a home pc, I use windows upto now and this is the first time I tried to install Linux on this one, here is my configuration;
    Mainboard : Gigabyte m61vme-s2 s940
    Cpu : AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 1,8Ghz
    Hd : Samsung 80Gb 72000 rpm 8Mb Sata (2 disks)
    When the installer starts first this message box comes;
    - WARNING -
    No hard drivers have been found. You probably need to manually choose device drivers for the installation to succeed.
    Then I continue and;
    - DEVICES -
    No deivce drivers have been loaded for your system. (Add Device) button
    when I click this button a list comes;
    - SELECT DEVICE DRIVER TO LOAD -
    Please select the driver below which you wish to load. If it does not appear and you have driver disk press F2.
    here I both tries to continue with F2 or choose some of the items which I thought may be ok to continue but each time the anaconda installation failed at the Automatic Partitioning step with this message;
    - NO DRIVERS FOUND -
    An error has occured - No valid devices were found on which to create new file systems. Please check your hardware for the cause of this problem.
    I can use these disks with windows, but still if any hardware problems I do have how can I get detail troubleshooting information? Any links for resources like how to guides will be great.
    Thank you,
    Best regards.

    I recently (two weeks ago) did a complete rebuild on a AMD 64 system similiar to your configuration with CentOS 4.3 (a RedHat ES clone) and had no problem with the SATA (only) drive being picked up by the OS installer. I remember originaly (a year ago) having to carefully set the MB BIOS to go to this bus first to look for boot drives and NOT look to the IDE bus at all. I will review my system install docs when I get home later...

  • Yast installation problem on Oracle Enterprise Linux Rel 5 Upd 2

    Hi,
    I installed Oracle Enterprise Linux Rel 5 Upd 2 on a new server (Intel 64 bit) with the downloads from oracle
    (Enterprise-R5-U2-Server-x86_64-disc1.iso till Enterprise-R5-U2-Server-x86_64-disc6.iso).
    Then I wanted to install Yast for administering my machine and downloaded yast_el5_x86_64.tar, again from Oracle. Running the Yast install routine it required the perl-Digest-SHA package. I downloaded that from Oracle ULN and installed it.
    Now, running the Yast install routine again, I get a bunch of warnings and errors about failed dependencies and NOKEY's.

    I'm facing the same error message while install Siebel 8.0 on OEL. But before I had this ksh problem, it complains about disc space first, and I actually has plenty of disk space under the directory (it needs only 0.7 G and I have 17G free). Anybody has encountered such problem before?

  • Install VMWARE Workstation on Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.2

    Hi,
    I installed Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.2 and then i want to install Vmware Workstation 6.5. But the kernel pre-configured is installed with XEN option into kernel. And the Vmware package is not compatible with.
    So i must to desinstall Xen option from the kernel.
    Is someone can explain to me how to do ?
    Regards.
    Stéphane.

    There are several variations on the kernel RPM package. Some have XEN support and some do not.
    1) Make sure you have the simple kernel-<version> RPM package installed:
    # rpm -q kernel-$(uname -r)
    and install it if you don't:
    # up2date --install kernel
    2) Remove the kernel-xen RPM package:
    # rpm -e kernel-xen
    3) Reboot into your vanilla kernel installed in step #1

  • Network problems with Oracle Linux 5.7 on Vmware ESX 4.1

    We recently installed Oracle Linux 5.7 64 on Vmware in order to run OVM Manager 3.02. The VM experiences random frequent network connectivity problems. There are no errors showing up in the network stats. The Vmware environment hosts many production VMs with no issues. We did have some trouble configuring Vmware tools with the uek kernel, so we booted the vm with the base kernel and we were then able to configure Vmware tools with no problems. We have tried running the VM on two different ESX servers with no improvement.
    The network connectivity problems persist even with the base kernel. We get random ping failures into and out of the VM, and random disconnects of ssh terminal sessions.
    I am not very experienced with linux, being primarily a vmware and aix admin. Any tips on stabilizing Oracle Linux on Vmware are greatly appreciated otherwise, I will have to beg for a new server to host the OVM manager.
    Thanks,
    Bob

I've seen problems like this before when using a bad network cable or having a duplex mismatch. The later can happen when changing from a router to a network switch and configuring the switch for fixed full duplex. Depending on which end you sit you won't even see any network errors, but packages will disappear depending on traffic. Make sure you have set server's NIC and network switch port to the same topology ie. fixed or auto-negotiate, but not mixed. You can use the "ethtool" on the Linux system to verify the current settings.

    Hi All,
    While installing oracle 10g on enterprise linux 5 this message apear:
    http://img134.imageshack.us/my.php?image=problemqy2.png
    More Info:
    Oracle 10g supports redhat 4 and Enterprise Linux is redhat 5 so I changed the redhat-release to 4 to countinue setup but the above error appears, also I tried this configuration on SuSE 10 I changed the SuSE-release to 9 and went good.

    The packeges are already installedIf you execute runInstaller again is the error message the same as before?
    If yes can you post output for this command?
    rpm -qa --qf '%{name}-%{version}-%{release}.%{arch}\n'|grep -i 'libxp'
