+ Sign in safari

I think the + sign wich opens a new tag on safari, should be placed near the last open tag to the right, it's just more easy to get to..... What do you think?

HI,

  • Whenever I sign into Safari the web page will show black, blue, and white static. What is this? They said it is not a virus, but I am concerned there is something going on with my computer! Any recommendations on how to fix this?

Whenever I sign into safari the webpage will show a static blue, black, and white screen for a few seconds. What is this? They said it was because I needed to update my software, well I have done that and it is still doing it. Any recommendations?

If you cannot use COMMAND+R to boot into the recoveyr partition, see if a SMC and PRAM reset followed by Safe Boot helps:

Means you have an incompatible Safari extension installed. Look in the /Home/Library/Safari/Extensions/ folder for the offending plug-in and delete it.

  • Blocked plug-in sign on safari after trying repeatedly to download new version of flash

downloaded the new flash, and now it wont work on safari. Never had a problem with it before. I tried installing the unistaller but can't find it in downloads( I made sure that downloads went to the download folder). i tried all the other links for downloading flash-they didnt work. it does work on google crome. I prefer safari, so I would like it to work on that browser. I get the blocked (plug-in) sign.
NPAPI Plug-in version 15.0.0.152 is installed
    PPAPI Plug-in is not installed

If you want to update the OS, you initiate the download through the AppStore.  That said, someone tried this yesterday and it didn't resolve the issue for them.
We tested the upgrade scenario and blocklist functionality on a MacOS 10.6.8 machine and are unable to reproduce the symptoms, but we believe that they exist.  We don't know what the common denominator is yet, though.
I'm wondering if a complete uninstall and reinstall of Flash Player might solve it:
Uninstall Flash Player | Mac OS
    Then run the installer again.

  • Self Signed Certs Safari and Windows

My company is using a proxy with self-signed certificates and with each https connection I'm being prompted that the site may not be safe.  How do I permanently accept the self-signed proxy certificate using Safari 5.0.5 (7533.21.1) on Windows 7?

For me push is the next thing I want to get working, the web is annoying but not pressing. I'm not even prompted that the cert is not able to be authenticated which is what I expected. It cold be though the the particular cert I'm looking at may have a different machine name or something weird that is causing different behavior.

Anyone who has an issue with Safari 5.1.6 crashing after getting the installer bug on OS lion this worked for me:
I fixed the 5.1.6 Safari installer bug by getting on another computer, windows or mac, launching a web browser, going to the firefox install page and downloading the firefox installer package(mac), dragging the installer package to a usb/flash drive, ejecting usb and plugging into mac, dragging firefox installer onto desktop and downloading firefox.
Once firefox is downloaded use this link provided by another member to auto download safari 6:
Download and install Safari 6 from this link (it's the link used by software update to download Safari6 for Lion 10.7.4)  :

  • Safari 7.0.3 not working, Mavericks Latest Release

After upgrading Macbook Air to Mavericks, and after applying all updates, my Safari browser will not connect to anything.  I simply get a White screen, with no sign of Safari trying to do anything.  I disabled all plugins, extensions, and reset safari.  I tried Private browsing.  I tried it with 2 different users on the same laptop, but nothing.
I see in the log file:
Safari: BUG in libdispatch client: _dispatch_kevent_machport_enable: mach_port_move_member() failed   (os/kern) invalid right - 0x11
    every time I start Safari
Everything else is working and connecting to the internet.  I've even removed all /Library/Internet-Plugins to /tmp just to make sure nothing is accidentally getting loaded.
Does anyone have any suggestions?  I don't really want to reinstall the OS.
Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.
    - Jeff

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • Safari gone walkabout

So,,,Im running 10.4.5 and download clamxav antivirus. now three days later the only sign of safari is an icon in my dock (1mb application, according to spotlight) which does nothing. I've tried the security patch 1.1 no luck. I've deleted the bookmark plist no luck. Where is my safari?
P.s The same thing has happened to Word - vanished without a trace! Any clues???

With regard to Flash Cookies (aka LSOs), it is possible to block them completely while fooling sites that set them that they are doing so. The fooling bit is necessary to get some streaming media to work, in particular BBC iPlayer, which now tries to set one from emp.bbc… etc.
It's a bit involved, but I've been using it set this way for at least six months now and haven't had any further re-generated cookies.

  • Are There Solutions To Any Of These:

PERSONAL Mavericks issues for me I notice so far, these may grow over time, so I will update the thread. Please note, this is not a complaint or rant (ha, though I am passionate about them and it may seem that way), but more of wondering if there is a solution I am not seeing for these little quarky things Mavericks does that I am not used to and don't like. And when I say solutions, I mean, a option to change it to the way it used to be, NOT some workflow around. I mean, am I missing a setting that allows me to change it used to operate in the older OS. Etc...
Also note, SOME are indeed bugs. So it is good to get them out in the open here:
    Issues with Mavericks:
1 - Auto save on Text edit can’t be changed ?? This has ruined several documents of mine already. To have the simple option of “TURN AUTO SAVE OFF” wouldn’t hurt anyone to put it there. Old Text Edit was better in this way.
2 - Once in your finder viewing column page, scrolling sideways with your fingers via trackpads is HORRIBLE, needs fix
3 - The plus sign in Safari now adds to your reading page, not bookmarks like it should and used to, therefore making saving a bookmark a bigger drawn out task than usual. Plus finding/accessing my bookmarks are not as quick as they used to be. Having a bookmark side bar is not nearly as convenient as the bookmarks tiny names right under the address bar. The whole experience isn’t as nice. I can not delete the Favorites menu if I don’t wanna see it. I don’t want to HAVE to have a folder, I just want the option to make create or delete them per my desires like it used to be. The old way let me personalize things so much better. Also, accessing these now is literally a joke. The sidebar is LAME. Takes too long. And the funniest part is, “Show Favorites Bar”, “Show Sidebar”, “Show Bookmarks Sidebar”, “Show Reading List Sidebar” , etc… are all the same thing, they will do the same thing and take you to the same place.. so why do I need all them separate options under view taking up my menu space, when things like “Show bookmarks under toolbar” and “Delete “said” folders” could be there. Etc.. This bookmark stuff needs help on Mavericks. Period.
4 - The web Address bar being like a iOS’s of a google search and a address in one causes it to not go to the address if I just type the one word of the .com place. This is horribly lame, as the other way was way more streamline and efficient to me. IE: I used to be able to just simply type “apple” in my address bar and hit return, and I’d instantly go to www.apple.com, but I now get a google search of “Apple”. Causing me to either type "apple.com" in the address bar (lame, takes more time) or let it do the google search and click on the apple site google result (even more lame, even more time). Why did they do this ? When I want to use a search, I'll go to the search bar in the far right of the upper window, when I want to go to a address, I'll go to the actual address bar. I liked it better that way for my work flow. And I can't find a setting to change it back.
5 - 2 for one bug issue - My OS hard drive and or finder and or a few folder's windows used to always come back the same size and rectangular dimensions I last left it on the older OS. I am not talking about view prefernce settings, (though this is a buggy issue too, read on) BUT I’m talking about the actual size and shape you make your window of each folder and hard drive, etc… there is not setting for that, it just used to remember the way you last left it before closing and always opened it in the same way you left it. NOW in Mavericks, my OS hard drive window (mainly, others only sometimes) is always resetting back to the default size and shape after I turn my computer off then back on. Butt for while its on, it will remember. Second part of this issue is, also, every time I've turned my computer on, the preferences under "View Prefernces" has unchecked the "always open in column view" box for my OS drive window that I have previously checked and set. What gives ?
6 - FOR SURE BUG - on the Old OS when I saved things for the first time (no previous original file there yet) like files of text edit, etc, to my desktop, the saved file would INSTANTLY show up on the desktop. I mean the moment I clicked save, BOOM !!! the file’s icon would show up on the desktop. NOW, it doesn’t show up until you click on or do something else. Notice that ? LAME. I mean to test it I even waited for minutes and it simply would not ever show up, UNTIL I clicked on something anywhere on the screen or a window that was open, etc.., THEN all of a sudden the newly saved file's icon would pop up. This is ridiculous. Needs to be fixed.
7 - “Save as draft” in email is no longer there. It now I guess automatically saves. Why ? And FYI this causes issues. I would rather click “Save As Draft” if I wanna save it or not if I don’t.
8 - BUG - Address book notes I think saves automatically every so often making it a horrible experience if you are scrolled way (pages worth) down in the notes (if you have that many) and if you begin to type something, but then wait to think about or find what next you need to type, it then every 3 seconds will auto save it (I guess) and zap you to the middle of the notes ! Causing you to have to re-scroll all the way down again and continue. This is unacceptable if you experience it.
9 - No spinning wheels next to each account in Mail makes me cringe. I need to see something is happening when I click on get mail. Not just sit there and wonder if mail is coming in or if I have lost internet connection maybe ? The old mail had little spinning wheels next to each account to let me know that particular account was indeed on and seeing if it had mail. I liked that.
10 - BUG - "Reset Safari" with the button checked to "Remove All Website Data" doesn’t act the same as when you “Clear all website Data” from within preferences, I know this because of the way it used to cause me to not be able to re-visit a secure website place even if clicked the “stay logged in” box… right ? Thats really clearing stuff. NOW, it will let me back in the website if I just go to “Reset Safari” and have ALL boxes checked. BUT if you manually go to preferences and then go to privacy and then “Clear all website Data” from there, then it truly does it and I can’t visit the site again unless I relog in. The old OS when I "Reset Safari" and had all boxes checked, it caused it to be truly cleared. This is stupid now, cause now it gives me a extra step to do as I browse. Cause I CONSTANLY reset safari.
    ............................to be continued I'm sure
Thanks for all help or suggestions :-)

    1. Re AutoSave: Others have clarified this, and while there were huge outcries in some places when this was introduced, turns out the sky didn’t fall and all that happened is your data was safer.
lol, agreed its not the end of the world. But not supplying a simple option of a setting option that you don't have to use but I could is just natzi like. I don't like to be corralled into others way of thinking. It is worse. If we were sitting in the same room, I could prove it to you through example. Honestly, I don't need safer data, or what Apple calls safer data, the whole point is to be able to lose some data if I want. This autosave way has caused me to lose entire files cause it save it when I didn't want it to save. Again, I could show you in person. Of course we could debate back and forth of if its cool or not, but my point is a simple option to turn it on or off... whats so hard about that ? And why would that option kill anyone ?
    Terence Devlin wrote:
    2. You’ll need to explain what “HORRIBLE” is and why it’s different from “horrible”. No one can fix it if you don’t tell what’s actually wrong.
Open up any folder or hard drive menu. Have it in Column view. Have enough in the folder or drive to have to scroll up and down... Do your scrolling via trackpad (Laptop or Magic TP) notice how scrolling up and down is so smooth, proper, awesome and just the way its always been ? Open Safari, have a page that you have to scroll on BOTH up/down and left/right. Notice how scrolling is great and the same algorithms for both sideways scrolling and up and down scrolling ? NOW, go back and open up a hard drive or folder window. Column view. Click on a folder within that window that has another folder and so on that makes you go go way far over in this window to the right side. NOW use the trackpad to try to scroll back left sideways in the window. HORRIBLE. Then once the window is set up like that, try to scroll sideways left or right (if you ever do get back to the left, lol). It simply is programmed wrong.

    3. Command-d makes a bookmark. End of. View -> Show Favourites Bar will get your “bookmarks tiny names right under the address bar”. What favourites menu are you unable to delete?
“Show Favorites Bar”, “Show Sidebar”, “Show Bookmarks Sidebar”, “Show Reading List Sidebar” , etc… are all the same thing
Hey, awesome ! Thanks for this. Issue is, is Apple now really is putting "Favorites" up there, not "Bookmarks". I never keep anything in favorites (seems redundant) and in past OS's when I could, I would just delete ALL things except a bookmark folder. But this time after what you said I did it, and because I have nothing in Favorites (a folder I cant seem to delete either) nothing would show up, BUT I knew you wouldn't say this suggestion for no reason.. So I kept trying stuff, and the moment I put a bookmark in the favorites folder, it showed up where I /you said I wanted it. AWESOME !! Only problem now, is thanks to Apple constantly changing things, I now have to refer to my bookmarks as "favorites". I never liked this terminology so I never used it. Its just back in the day I at least was able to have my bookmarks in that place AND not use favorites. Less clutter. I only need one folder that saves my safari revisit places.
    Terence Devlin wrote:
No they are not. Show Favourites Bar will give you the Bookmarks under your address bar, the others open different panels on the sidebar.
You are right about the "Show Favorites Bar", yes.... But - What I meant about the other 2 is, ultimately they are the same. They open a sidebar in which I don't think we need for efficiency. They both open a sidebar. Big deal. Once the sidebar is open I still have to move my cursor over there to do anything right ? And if my cursor is over there anyway I can then more quickly and efficiently choose either my reading list or my bookmarks by clicking the options in the sidebar than choosing them options from the dropdown view options. So my point is, here they put more view options than we need (redundant ones), but yet skimp on a "Autosave On/Off" option with text edit and Mail drafts ?? Get my point ?

    4. Safari Preferences -> Privacy -> Smart Search Field. Prevent Search Engines from providing suggestions
This just caused it to do exactly what it said it would do. But thanks anyway :-) It stops giving me suggestions. I actually like suggestions WHEN I'm using a google search. But don't want a google search when I want to type in my address bar. What it looks like several of us want, is like it was. 2 separate bars. One short tiny one for a google search off to the right and one larger main one for the main address bar typing. I get to my destinations faster this way. BUT why not have the option in preferences to choose the way you want it. Maybe in Customize Toolbar ? Have the option to leave current/drag default, etc.. BUT another option to drag the other way the address and google bars worked.

    5. Sounds like a dodgy Finder preference file. Trash it.
Really ? That would be great man ! So your saying yours holds to the same way you felt it every time ? Your OS Drive window one ? If so, awesome ! Please tell me where the preference file is to trash. But please test out what I said before. OS Drive window. Change its shape to tall and skinny (verticle) rectangle, close it. Reopen it. Notice how it stays the same as you left it, like it should. Now turn off your computer. Turn it back on. Double click your OS Drive. Does the window open the shape you left it ? OR did it change back to a small horizontal rectangle ?
Let me know - thanks -

    6.  Doesn’t happen here.
Really ? I've tried this on 2 of my other friends computers... all do the same thing. Are you sure ? Mainly try it with Text Edit. Saving to desktop, nothing there before, first time saving file. Have the window open that your about to save to the far left of the computer screen so you can visually see when it gets saved (right under your OS Drive icon). Type something, etc.. whatever. Click save and go through the save walkthrough, the moment your ablout to click the last button that will save the file to your desktop, look to watch the files new icon appear right under your OS Drives icon. Click that last button BUT don't do anything after you click it, don't scroll your curser, don't reclick on anything, nothing. Sit there and just see when you see the newly saved file appear. It won't appear. Not until you move your curser or click on something somewhere.
If you do run this test, please let me know the outcome. Thanks !

  • Why is my iTunes stuck on a download?

My iTunes freezes up roughly 30 seconds after I open it.  It says it's trying to download a 2.9 MB documentary.  It may be a subscription, but because it's frozen, I can't stop it from downloading.  I tried to let it go for a bit to see if it would download and unfreeze, but no such luck.  How do I fix this?

Tap the home button twice to bring up the recent tray. Tap and hold an icon till they wiggle then tap the minus sign on safari to exit it completely. Double tap the home button to get beck to the home screen and try safari again. Another option is to reset your phone by holding the power bitton and home button until you see the apple logo then let go.

  • Passwords not saved

When I enter a user name and password, Safari usually asks if I want to remember it, or gives me the option "Never for this site." How do I know what it is set to do? If I click never, do I just never ever have the option to save a password again? How do I check if this site isn't saving my password just because I accidentally told it not to?
I'm suspicious because this site doesn't save my info and it's REALLY annoying. I've looked at the source and there are no autocomplete=off tags or anything, so it should be saving my info.
I think maybe it isn't being saved just because it isn't a username and password (it's a first name/last name and password). ...but shouldn't it be able to save the form field data somehow?
GRRRAWRRR!! I'm so frustrated. There must be SOME way to make Safari save my information!
...so yeah, how do I check if it's set to try and remember passwords, or if it's just "never for this site" going to remember. ...and how do I reverse that setting?
ALSO.... changing browsers is out of the question. ;D

I've had the same problem and it has everything to do with Code Signing: the way Mac OS X checks if applications can have access to secret data (in Keychain Access). Safari uses this too and if Code Signing is somehow broken; strange things happen with saving or not saving passwords.
You can check Code Signing for Safari in Terminal:
    codesign --verify --verbose /Applications/Safari.app
...If the result is different from:
    /Applications/Safari.app: valid on disk
    /Applications/Safari.app: satisfies its Designated Requirement
    ...then something is wrong.
There are complex ways to change the Safari code signing, so just take the easy way: just put your Safari application in the trash and copy the complete (working) Safari application from another Mac (with the same version number) to yours (or from a Time Capsule version of Safari from the period everything was nice and easy).
After starting the copied version of Safari, Keychain Access will ask you for permission. Choose "always" and you're problem is fixed!
It did the trick for me after Googling and troubleshooting for hours...

  • Mac Book Pro running slow since Yosemite

Well sine installing Yosemite, my Mac is slow. I am not impressed with the new look and feel. All the minor changes seems to make my life and Mac more difficult. I have checked my storage space and I have lots of memory to be running Yosemite. I have checked the user group settings to ensure there are no programs running at start up, which use to be instant now takes a few minutes when turning on and I have to sign into my Mac. If I knew it was going to be like this I would have just installed Windows with the hassle.
I would like Maverick back..... or any better suggestions as I am LOVE my Macbook pro with retina display and want it back to working in prime condition prior to the Yosemite.
Here as some of the issues:
Turn on time 1-2 minutes plus I have to sign in
    Safari s...l.....o.....w
Most programs are slow or shut down randomly such as pages and keynote
Synching with iPad and iPhone not always quick even know everything is cloud based (i.e.. took a picture the other day on iPhone, show on iPad still not on my laptop)
Just hate the look - but I guess I can live with that... or if someone knows how to make the tool bar clear again that would be great, not happy with the white.
These are just the surface of my issues, but the speed is the main item for all programs right now.

Download and run EtreCheck http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck and post its result here. Hopefully it'll shad some light on your issue.
