Signal dropped from 5GHz to 2.4GHz - Transmit rate: from 210 to 67 ????

Does anyone knows why Time Capsule would switch to Ch 1 (2.4GHz) all of the sudden?
I have moved to a different house and here the TC is a little further from the iMac but why is the MBP has the same problem?

Signals in the 5GHz range drop off faster than 2.4GHz signals when passing through walls, etc.
You might try forcing your Time Capsule to use channels 149 and up. According to the electronic book "Take Control of Your 802.11n Network, version 1.6" (www.takecontrolbooks.com/airport-n), 2009 versions of the Extreme and Time Capsule use higher power in the "upper 5 GHz band".
I have no financial relationship with Take Control Books.

  • Arport express problems going from 5ghz to 2.4ghz

Hi all I'm completely stumped with this one.
Last night I needed to change the express from N 5ghz to N/B/G 2.4ghz.
So using the manual setup screen I selected the options. but when I clicked on update, I just get the spinning wheel and the imac, macbook and ipod could no longer see the airport at all, despite it having a green light.
If I plugged it in to the imac using a cable it could see it at this point and I confirmed the settings were correct for N/B/G 2.4 ghz. It just doesnt want to talk to anything.
To get it working I had to do a hard reset and plug it back in to the imac using an ethernet cable, and set it up again but it seems to only want to work on 5ghz.
I'm pretty sure its not the airport at fault as I took an airport back to the store a while ago as it was doing exactly the same thing and was in warranty, I was told it was duff and it was replaced.
Has anyone seen this type of behaviour at all? I'm using utility version 5.5.1 and firmware 7.4.2
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Welcome to the discussions, Jamesn1!
I suggest that you try a factory default reset and then try to reconfigure the AirPort Express (AX) again.
To perform the factory default reset:
Power down the AX for a few moments
Hold in the reset button and while you continue to hold the reset button in, plug the AX back in to power
Keep holding the reset button until you see the amber light begin to blink more quickly
If you try this a few times and the AX will not allow you to create a 2.4 GHz network, I'm afraid the AX is defective and will need to be replaced.

  • AirPort Utility 6.0 Invalid Channel switching from 5Ghz to 2.4Ghz

I have AirPort Utility 6.0 and the older Airport Extreme Oct 2009 (FC340LL/A) without the duel radios.  I believe I found a bug in the AirPort Utility 6.0 when switching between wireless modes.  When I asked the AirPort Extreme to operate at 5Ghz 802.11n only and picked the channel in the 100's it switch over fine.  I realized that the iPhone's must not have a 5Ghz radio in them because it could not find my wireless network anymore.  When I went back to the AirPort Utility to change it back to 2.4Ghz .11n or really trying to switch the radio back to 2.4Ghz I kept getting invalid channel when trying to save the config and update.  It seems that the  AirPort Utility 6.0 would not keep the channel setting saves to what I selected.  It did not matter if I picked channel 1 or 11 or automatic.  After quitting the AirPort Utility app a few times rebooting the AirPort Extreme a few times the only way around this was to tell the AirPort Utility to default the setting on my Extreme back to factory defaults which changed the radio back to 2.4Ghz mode.
Any suggestions Apple or anyone else ran into this problem?

I am experiencing this same problem.  When switching to the 5ghz only radio it reports the channel is invalid when I attempt to update.  Whether I choose automatic or any other channel it keeps saying it is invalid.  I am running the latest updates on my macbook pro and airport utility 6.0.  My airport express is version 7.6.1.  It is being run in bridge mode.  I also have a time capsule in bridge mode as well.
I am still working on this.

  • CATS - rates from HR

Does anyone know how to get project systems / finance to read the payscale group and levels from HR (instead of reading the rate from Project Systems - CP26).
    Thanks.
(we have too many rates to store in Project systems and would prefer to store them in HR, any ideas?)

    Hello Rajesh,
When I entered the time, the CATSMM table got updated with the correct PO and the line item number. But, after the CATM process was run, the ESLL table got a different PO line item number and a different rate (probably because the line item was different). And, the CATM does not give an option to enter a line item number for the transfer. So, where would this line item number have been updated? It is certainly not on the timesheet or timesheet defaults infotype (0315).
    Any suggestions, please?
    Thanks!

We use one windows machine and two mbp's (post 2012) at home. We have a modem *** router from a  non apple vendor that airport utility finds and connects with absolute ease. But doesn't stay connected. The signal drops often, what can I do?

No, not all network clients -- only the two mac portables and they run together very rarely. The windows machine is hardwired to the modem router combo, and that's always sailing smooth. The mbp that is most used is perhaps 20 feet max from the router - and in another room. But it also happens when I take in into the same room as the router. On occassion, I have noticed while using network diagnostics, that one digit in the IP number sometimes appears to go awry. I then try to set up manually - and it works for a bit but is hugely erratic.
I rigged a hand me down airport express and set up a separate network for the two macs and it ran beautifully for some weeks, but that little piece is now dead and none of the retailers in my suburb seem to have one in stock. I don't want to be forced to buy an airport extreme and here in India, there's no trustworthy online ordering option.
The man from the ISP's been here several times and I don;t think it is a modem/dsl issue because the smartphone connects and the macbook drops when both are the same distance from the router? I am truly foxed and intensely irritated! :-(

  • WiFi - 5GHz strong, 2.4GHz weak

    Morning,
I have a Lenovo T61 which can connect to our 5GHz signal absolutely fine, however all 2.4GHz signals are showing as Low/Poor and either connect slowly or do not connect at all.
I have removed the driver (including ticking delete the driver files) and it now uses the stock 2006 Windows driver, but this gives the same result.
Opening up the laptop, both antenna wires are secure to the card and the card is secured (inc. screw).  The laptop has not ben taken apart.
The only other thing I can think of is the antenna in the screen?  However the laptop has not previously been taken apart - all cables are tucked away where they need to be in the chassis.
    Any advice is appreciated.
    Thanks
    Karl
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi goretsky,
Tilting the screen had no effect, so I actually decided to open the laptop (We run about 50 T61s and a few T60s so I'm used to tear-downs now!) and alternate between the Main/Aux antennae connectors - this made no difference so it told me the antennae in the screen are OK.
I dug around our spares and found a T60 with a dud MoBo - swapped the cards (both 3945ABG's) and bingo!  Full signal 2.4 - so it seems something on the card itself is dead; I presume they have separate controllers/transceivers for the two bands and the 2.4s unit has been fried.
The user did actually use an external adapter (He lives 300 miles from our office) until he tripped over and dropped the laptop, breaking the USB adapter!
I appreciate your help as it has indirectly help me solve the issue
    Cheers
    Karl

  • Transmit rate vs. Download speed: should I switch everything to 5GHZ or does it matter?

Thanks in advance for any help that you can give me. I am not well-schooled in networking so, after doing a lot of research and not being able to get clarity, I figured I would write what I understand and hope that somebody here could point me in the right direction. I have 3 airport stations (a time capsule dual band is the primary and 2 airport expresses) and they are all ethernet wired. All my devices are 802.11n capable and all the base stations are n capable. I have no strictly b/g devices, only n devices. No matter what base station a device is connected to, the speedtest.net rate is about 17mbps (I pay for 18mbps) so that is good. However, the "transmit rate" (and I don't really understand what this does) varies depending on what base station my device hooks into. Whenever I am near the time capsule (primary station), my devices hook in at 5Ghz and I get a transmit rate of about 240 to 300 and a 17mbps download speed. But when I hook into either of the other 2 aiport expresses, it shows that I am hooked into 2.4Ghz and the transmit rate is about 50 to 130, but I still get the 17mbps download speed. I know I can change both expresses to only do 5Ghz. Keep in mind, the speedtest.net test always shows about 17mbps download speed no matter what base station my device connects to. I am not sure I understand what the transmit rate indicates. I want to make my network the fastest it can be no matter what base station I use.
So, my question is should I change the other 2 airport extreme base stations to operate as 5Ghz n network only so that I have 5Ghz operating throughout my whole house which will give a higher "transmit rate" and will that make my experience faster even though I already get maximum 17mbps download speed? Also, if you could, please explain to me the difference between ISP download speed and "transmit rate" because I don't really understand the difference...I mean how does download speed affect my experience vs. how does transmit rate affect my experience? Do I really need to have a higher "transmit rate" to increase my speed or is just having 17mbps download speed necessary and the transmit rate doesn't matter?
One other thing you might need to know: I don't have any 2.4 ghz devices that might interfere with my network (my cordless phones are 1.9Ghz)
    Thanks again for the help.

Think of it like this.. Change moving data in air to water in pipes.
You have a 1/2" pipe coming from the ISP into your house..
Inside your house you have 5" and 2" pipes.. (this represents the speeds or flow rate if you like, 1/2" is all the ISP gives you.. but your ethernet is a huge pipe.. think of it as infinite for this situation,, and 5" pipe that is 5ghz and 2" pipe is 2.4ghz.. this is just illustration remember it is area not diameter that matters).
If you transfer files between the computer on the TC to the TC hard disk.. you get all the 5" pipe.. very fast.
If you copy a file between computer on the TC and device on the express.. you are limited by the 2" pipe.. everything goes at the speed the 2" pipe can manage.
Now you do something with internet.. 5" pipe can get the same throughput as the 2" pipe because it is only 1/2"
Pipes btw are still in imperial even if you are in a metric country pretty often.
But I hope that illustrates the situation..
If a computer on 5" pipe and computer on 2" pipe are both trying to access internet .. they both still have to share the 1/2" pipe. In a perfect world they both get half your 18mbps if they are accessing it at the same time.. (QoS represent a flow valve that says this pipe should get more flow even if it is smaller so I shut the valve down on 5" to make sure it only gets what the 2" can get.. no more.. to be fair.).
Same as water in pipes.. the 1/2" pipe can never fill the 5" or even the 2" pipe.. the 2" cannot fill the 5" so the fastest would be everything on 5" pipes.. since you are unlikely to be able to afford a 5" pipe from the ISP then you accept everything is going to go slower when internet is involved.
    Jumping out of my illustration..
Apple made 2.4ghz max out at 150mbps..
Although some of the later stuff can get better than that,, 217mbps.
The 5ghz is faster because it is has more bandwidth.. up to 1200mbps in the newest AC .. 450 on Gen3,4 TC and 300 on the older gen1,2
BUT the range is poor.. so generally better sticking with 2.4ghz for express.. they are not high power devices at all.
2.4ghz  has better range and penetration.. you are going to be just fine with internet access.. and your setup is actually working really well.. There are some overheads on wireless so you do not quite hit wired speeds.

  • Signals drop on iPhone 5s iOS 8.1 both wifi and network

I am having the following problems since i updated to iOS 8.1 on my iPhone 5s 16GB model A1533 :
1- My network signals drop to 3 dots and sometimes to 2 and stay there.
2- Sometimes my wifi disconnects itself on my iphone for almost 4 or 5 seconds
3- My battery is draining faster that ever. I turned off the use of fingerprint and found it useful but still my iphone consumes a lot of battery. I get my battery percentage dropped to 80% from 100% in just 20minutes of whatsapp usage. My fone's vibration is never on. Location services all off except find my iphone. Background app refresh also off. I tried everything. Erase all settings, hard reset etc. NO USE
4- Playing games is really difficult. Battery drains very fast.
I did not have these problems on 7.1.2. Need help
    Regards,
    Ahmad

I understand that but I hope that people from Apple will be referring to the support groups and may actually think about that last paragraph.

  • Why does my signal drop every time I try to use an application.

I've got a UFO style 802.11g, which I unfortunately kept up to date with the updates.
For well over a year now I've had my gear set up like this, airport in the den, my wife's older Imac in the den with it, the printer in the den as well and my Imac across the house. Now, everything in the den connects like cake. Always up, always a great signal.
My Imac across the house has always had it's ups and downs, we've got a stone fireplace and out kitchen in between. Basically, it's 3 rooms away. A whole bunch of walls and corners for the signal to bounce off of. So, I know, not an ideal set up. But it's worked ok for a good long time.
So, a few months ago I performed the recommended update. It said that it would increase connection quality. So I thought, hey, this might help me out! At first glance my connection seemed great! I never lost a bar, not while I was looking anyway. Then I started noticing that occasionally I switch a webpage or some such and it would tell me that I wasn't connected to the internet. What? I look up and I've got all the bars, so I try again and get through... then I notice the bars just flat out go dead. Now I can't connect again. Odd.
Ok, so I start paying attention and it just drops out at random... now, the signal used to fluctuate up and down fairly regularly before the update. I'd researched the problem and found out all the things that can interrupt my signal, and basically I've got em all in between my Airport and my Imac. I could live with that, because it would slow down, but it stayed connected for the most part. This was something new.
Ok, back to the problem at hand. Now I see the signal is either all bars or none. No 2 bars, no 3 bars. Here or gone. And while I'm paying attention, I notice that practically every time I click on something, from my mail app to a preview image the signal drops to nothing. Seemed a coincidence at first, but know I'm certain that it isn't.
So, random complete signal loss and complete signal loss when I use and app. Really not pleased.
Ok, so I figured maybe there's a fix on the way, but I've heard nothing of it. I installed the most recent update, absolutely no effect. Oh, and this one too was supposed to provide better connectivity. Where? I'm not seeing it! Everything in the den works just as well as it ever has. That's one of the things I've loved about Mac for more than 10 years. Easy to use and reliable. But this, this is just a big old pain.
I've tried to extend the network unsuccessfully with the Express. I've got another option to try with that, so my fingers are crossed. But I just don't get why my network is now worse than when I set it up when the only change that's been made have been the updates that I installed at Apple's insistence that my signal would actually be better.
Sorry for being so long winded, and for anyone who made it this far... is there anything that I can do? I really do prefer to have my office in the room that it's in, but it doesn't help me at all when I have to move my Imac to use it online.

This may sound stupid, but I'm gonna throw it out there anyway. Is it possible, that if I have enough junk on my desktop it might disrupt the signal? It seems odd, but it kind of looks like my signal is strong and relatively steady now that I've cleaned my desktop. I do tend to get very cluttered. I use a lot of reference images and save text clippings to use later... it just piles up very quickly.
So, I wonder if all that extra effort my system has to do keeping up with the junk might have something to do with the drop outs?

  • Airplay video signal drops

We have 7 Apple TV's throughout our company and all of them exhibit the same behaviour, on many different laptops.
All laptops are running minimum of OS 10.9.2.
We have a Cisco Clean Air WiFi network with excellent signal coverage in all areas surrounding each of the AirPlay devices.
    Here's exactly what happens:
User will enter conference room with Apple TV connected to an LED Flat Panel TV.  Power it up, then select the appropriate Airplay device from their Airplay menu and begin streaming mirroring their desktop to the television set.  Within 2 minutes, the signal drops, forcing the user to re-select the airplay device once again.  Usually it will drop again within 2 minutes.
If the user reboots the Apple TV, the issue will go away for the rest of the session.  Perhaps something about the Apple TV's keeping a sustained connection to our WiFi network.
We've been working with Cisco to pour over our WiFi network but they cannot find anything from the WiFi gear that is contributing to the signal loss.
Anyone have any ideas here?  I'd like to try an Apple TV alternative to see if a different device would have the same issue but the options seem extremely limited.
    Thank you.

I have two laptops each with their video out adapter connected and then cabled to a switch box where the big monitors project the signal of the laptop that the swtich box is set to. Like channel selection. Previous versions of Keynote were never a problem and I mean never. The signal came right through but now with Keynote 4 the signal drops out even tho the laptop is still active and apparently sending a signal through its video out connection. I have to hit escape and get out of keynote and then go back to PLAY for keynote to once again send that signal.

  • 3Gs Wifi cuts out when cell signal drops out

I recently received a new 3Gs from Applecare with firmware 3.1.3. My previous 3Gs was running 3.1.2. I have terrible cell signal in my basement. It usually bounces between 1 bar and no signal. Since receiving my new 3Gs, the wifi signal would drop and come back when the cell signal goes from 1 bar to no signal. It also does this when it goes from no signal to 1 bar. I never noticed this on my previous phone with 3.1.2 firmware. I only noticed this since it interrupts my pod cast streams. I also noticed that when the wifi signal cuts out, the iphone locks up momentarily (can't do anything on the touchscreen). Has anyone else noticed this? Hardware or firmware issue? BTW, restoring to a fresh setup doesn't seem to help.

In case someone ends up having the same problem, I suspected a faulty cell radio in my iPhone. The local Apple store swapped out the phone. They also suspected it having the same problem.
This is now my FOURTH iPhone 3GS. (#1 bad accelerometer, #2 scratched LCD & bad cell radio / GPS chip, #3 bad cell radio). I hope this one does better.
What's happened to the quality of these phones? My 1st gen iPhone had Zero problems. It was chipped and banged up quite a bit, but still worked like a champ.

I have been using my Linksys WRT330N for quite a while, and it has been wonderful.  I have 3 pcs, 2 wired and 1 wireless.  The wireless laptop died and was replaced.  The replacement is causing problems and I need assistance finding a solution.  The new laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1545 and it has an Intel Wifi Wireless AGN internal wireless adapter.  My two wired pc's can surf the net without the slightest hicup until the wireless laptop with its wireless N card gets into the action.  Once the laptop gets on, the hicups are frequent.

As you can see the signal drops show as the router resetting.  It was not me unplugging it.  The router as the only firmware which is available, v1.00.4 and the network drivers for the laptop's wireless wifi 5100 card are up to date.  A Dell technitian controlled my laptop and did it himself.
    Any suggestions?

  • Airport signal drops randomly

I use Airport Express to connect to wireless Internet. Recently I've had this problem where the signal just randomly drops every few hours - if not every hour. Airport Express is showing a green light.
When I re-start my computer then it still won't show the signal bar at the top. So I basically have to turn-off the computer and unplug the Airport Express to get it work.
I don't have this problem when I use wireless at other places.
    Any advice on this problem?

I think my problem is fixed. You see I was using my airport express as a booster to my linksys, which worked for over a year until recent OS X update.
    The Fix:
Instead of just setting up my express to join an "existing wireless network" , which was my original set up....I opted to use the option "Creat a wireless network" and I gave it another name, and under WDS tap I enabled it as a remote base station and under the "main airport ID" I selected my linksys router. Using the airport express this way, now I have two network names, the name of my main linksys router, and the name of my air express. Of course you get a better signal from one versus the other one depending how close you are. You also need to manually switch to the one with stronger signal, but at least both of them work through out the house, and my airport express has not dropped of for 3 days now. It works. Not sure why, but I am glad it works. If you are using your airport express a signal booster or as a remote base, and you are having your signal drops off, try to set it up this way, and see if it works for you.
I hope apple can shed some light to this issue, and I hope this works out for you

  • Wireless Signal Drops Every Few Minutes; Impossible to Load/Use Chat Client

    Hi,
I have an iBook G4 laptop with an Airport Card installed under the keyboard (I guess it's Express? Not sure). At home, my roomates have a Windoze PC desktop using Verizon DSL connected with a Westell Modem and a Linksys Router for wireless access. This connection seems stable and is always on, as their AIM client is always running and shows no connection disruption. She also has an IBM laptop, which connects wirelessly through a Linksys card, and while I'm not sure whether she has any connection disruption or not, I don't think so or else I probably would have been asked to take a look at it by now Although, it isn't "always on" like the desktop, so I'm not sure.
I am accessing her DSL connection wirelessly, as I've mentioned, through my iBook. When I am browsing the Web however, I sometimes try to link to a page just when the connection is resetting, so I receive the "page cannot be displayed because you are not connected to the internet" warning. If I immediately refresh the page, it usually loads right away. Sometimes I have to reload 2-3 times, but it always works without having to tweak any configurations in Network at all.
This is a little aggravating, but liveable. Except for the fact that I am unable to run a chat client at all, since the signal drops intermittently and the client has to constantly resign on, and holding a chat conversation with constant disconnects would be impossible.
If I had to guess, I'd say the connection resets itself at least every 15 mins or so, maybe more.
I'm wondering if anyone else has any problem of this sort? Do I need to tweak some sort of settings? Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you!

I am having a similar problem. I am using a Powerbook G4, with three airport expresses (one per floor on the house). Often, I get a messages saying that I am not connected to the internet and sometimes if I wait it will reconnect and sometimes it doesn't. When it doesn't, I check the settings on the Airport Express (AE). It seems that the password to get me on the network had duplicated itself so it's now 26 characters long instead of 13. I have two other computers on the network, a PC on Windows XP and a new iMac (when I say new, I mean two weeks old, already out of date PowerPC). ANYWAY, they work fine. I am thinking that they other computers are using signal from the two remaining AEs that are working closest to the base/internet connection.
I put a call into Apple three times and we basically just keep throwing out my system configuration files in my user, and then starting from scratch. So far that has not helped the problem.
I think the most important thing to note is that I have upgraded all three of my AEs to v6.3 and this is when the trouble started.
    Has anyone any solutions?
Also, what happened to the spell check feature that used to be here for posting messages?

  • IPhone 6 freezing after WiFi signal drops

Anyone else having recurring OS freezing and hanging problems after a sudden WiFi signal drop?
The phone seems fine on WiFi for a period of time, sometime hours, sometimes days but then all of a sudden the signal strength drops to one and everything goes crazy.  Trying to turnoff WiFi from the control center doesn't have any effect (it looks like it's off but the wifi indicator remains on).  If I try an go into the settings app, it comes up as a blank white page and hangs.  Sometimes I can go back to the home screen, sometimes not but the phone will freeze up solid or eventually reboot.  If it reboots or I do a hard reset the wifi switch is grayed out and can not be enabled.
If I perform another hard reset the wifi switch will sometimes be accessible again but the phone seem unstable.  It will reboot randomly or simply freeze up.  The last time it froze on the apple boot screen and I had to put the phone into recovery mode to restore it.
I have iOS 8.1.1 installed and have done a dozen hard resets and restored as a new phone from iTunes twice in the past week.  It's driving me nuts because the phone just seems unstable.

I have reset the modem everytime this happened. That is why I believe this could be a software problem between iOS 8 or iPhone 6 wifi and the band in which the airport express communicates.
Today I have disabled the airport express and began using the wifi from the HUB of my internet provider. So far no drops on wifi signal no freezing, no crashing. Connectivity seems much faster and clean now. Lets hope it keeps this way.
