Signal express log import

Dear group,
Can Signal express load tmds files created from wav recordings? I gave it a try but the file import didn't work for me. I browserd through the examples which worked fine. I tried converting the files to tdms via Diadem, but still no luck with imports. Any tips are appreciated, Thank you.

Hi monotone,
Can you give me more information about the TDMS file? Where was it generated? Do you have LabVIEW also?
If you have DIAdem questions you can post questions on the DIAdem discussion forum.

  • Signal Express logging issues

I am having trouble with the Signal Express advanced logging features. For example, logging will not start at a specified Date/time. I also don't understand the interval logging. If I specify the log to start every 25 seconds and then specify a stop condition of a duration of 5 seconds, I expect the software to log every 25 seconds for 5 seconds. Instead, the logs start immediately for 5 seconds (as I would expect), but then log 2 starts 30 seconds after log 1. Log 3 starts 55 seconds after log 2, log 4 starts 80 seconds after log 3, etc.
    Any input would be appreciated.

    Hi,
I had a chance to create a program that logs 5 seconds of data every 25 seconds.  After looking at your program I saw that I had the same settings.  I attached a screen shot of my data view and also attached my signal express project.  I noticed that the time the data was being sampled was correct and the log files were perfect.  The only discrepancy was that the log file time did not correspond to the actual time the data was acquired.

  • I am trying to use generate code in signal express to import into labview.

I get this error when i try to generate code in signal express to export to labview . I have tries the error suggestions but I am still having problems. any help would be appreciated
The version of LabVIEW you are generating code into does not contain all the necessary SignalExpress support files. Make sure you launch the version of LabVIEW with SignalExpress support installed before generating code from SignalExpress. If you want to generate code into more than one version of LabVIEW, uninstall SignalExpress and all versions of LabVIEW except the earliest.  Install SignalExpress, then install any other versions of LabVIEW.  Copy the files from the vi.lib\express\SignalExpress directory of the earliest installed version of LabVIEW into the same sub-directory location of any other version of LabVIEW in which you want to include support for code generation.

Typically, this problem is repaired by following the directions on the error message. Since it was not, can you please give us more information so we can start determining the cause?
What version or versions of LabVIEW do you have installed? What version or versions of SignalExpress do you have installed? Could you post a file with a listing of the files in <vi.lib>\express\SignalExpress for the version of LabVIEW you are trying to use. You can either post a screenshot (in PNG or GIF format) of the directory dialog or use the command prompt to generate a list to a file (preferred). To generate a list with the command prompt, do the following:
Launch the command prompt from the start menu — Start»Programs»Accessories»Command Prompt
Navigate to the drive you have LabVIEW installed on ( usually C: ) — C:
Change directory to the appropriate LabVIEW directory — cd "\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.2\vi.lib\express\SignalExpress". Change the LabVIEW version to the one you actually are using. Do a directory listing and redirect the output to a file — dir > filename.txt. You can use any full path for the filename.txt. If you specify a simple name, it will end up in the current directory.
Please post your project. Verify that you are using the version of LabVIEW you think you are by launching it before you start code generation.
    Thanks for your patience.

  • Why can I only import one TDMS signal at a time in Signal Express?

I have dozens of data files which were originally recorded as LabVIEW waveform files.  I converted them all to TDMS in LabVIEW in hopes that I could import them to Signal Express (with the S&V Suite) for further processing.  Each data file contains more than 20 channels.
When I try to import them to SE, I am unable to import the entire group.  Instead, I am limited to one channel at a time.  This would take days to import all channels, and is not what I want at all.  Is there some way to import an entire group of channels at once?
    JR

I was using the "Logged Signals from LabVIEW TDMS file" import; perhaps I had installed it on SE 2.5 before upgrading to 3.0.  Regardless, I downloaded the ZIP file, and ran the msi with the "Repair" function.  This did not change the functionality.  I then used your suggestion, and redigitized one of the files with the Express VI set for TDMS.  Same deal, although instead of the channel names I had been able to specify using the TDMS subVIs, now it lists them all as "Voltage_x", where x is a channel number beginning with 0.
I've attached two images as examples of what I'm experiencing.  The first (temp1.JPG) shows where I've tried to select the entire group.  You can see that "Convert File" is not enabled, and the sample information has not been read.  The second image (temp2.JPG) shows where I've selected a channel.  I am only able to select one channel, not a range.  The "Convert File" button is now enabled, and sample information is correctly displayed.

  • How do I get channel names written into a logged ascii file in Signal Express

    Hi there,
This maybe a rookie question but I am a relative rookie to this software, and I hope it has an easy fix!
    Background:
Take a load of analogue inputs from a DAQ device into Signal Express, first thing that hits me is that unlike labVIEW you cannot right click in the channel configuration window and change the name from say... Dev2_ai0 to Air Pressure? I feel that if this was possible then I would overcome my problem? anyway I can't so onwards...
I goto the DAQmx Acquire window on the top left and can right click and rename the channel, which is great... however this does not translate to the logged data as I get the ai0 channel names across the top of the columns and not the names that I have put in.
Is there anyway of getting data like the attached snippet?
Many thanks for your help in advance.

    Channel names.gif ‏4 KB

    Hi Dan,
Thanks for the reply, that has certainly fixed my issue as I wasn't expanding the channel and selecting the channel that I had renamed.
    One last thing though:
I now not only get the individual channel name but the prefix for the DAQmx Aquire, for instance I get the Input of Braketest and then the channels under the input data.
It looks a bit like this....
    Braketest - Front Pres
    Braketest - Rear Pres
    Braketest - FR Temp
    Braketest - FL Temp
    etc etc...
Now all of the channel names at the top of the columns have this long name. Can this be rectified? can I remove the "Braketest" bit?
By the way I am saving it as an ASCII so that I can read it in excel.
    Many thanks, Neil.

  • Set up Signal Express to log when there is a change in state of the inputs (NI USB-6501 logger)

Hello NI Forum, I have recently purchased digital I/O logger NI USB-6501.  This arrived with Signal Express, which I intend to use as a Lite version.  I just wondered if it was possible to set up Signal Express to only add a log entry when there is a change in state of the inputs?  I have this working on a 0.1sec sample period and can interrogate the logs after recording.  Most of the time nothing will be happenning, I just wondered if there was a way to reduce the ammount of data captured?  Cheers.

Ah that unfortunate, and yes start/stop conditions for loging are part of the Full version of SignalExpress
    Here's the comparision: http://www.ni.com/labview/signalexpress/purchasing-options.htm
    Sorry about that

  • Signal express not saving logs, giving NaN

    I need some help.
We have been using Signal Express for about 1.5 years with ok success. (It is really unstable at times.)
We just ran into a new issue the last couple of days.  All of a sudden it is no longer saving our log files.  There is no indication that there is anything wrong.  It runs fine and appears to be saving the data (the logs show up in the log list on the bottom left side).
However, if you go back and try and open the data, it gives only NaN values.  If you look for the log folder where it should be it does not appear and when you save, close and reopen the project, it says that the log files could not be found and have been erased.
We have restarted the computer and all the normal.  We rebuilt the project from the ground up and it is still happening.
There is plenty of disc space (15 Gb) so that shouldn't be an issue either.
    Anyone have any ideas?????
Are there certain conventions we should stick to when naming the logs.  I thought it might be something with the names being used, but there doesn't seem to be a pattern.
    Thanks for any advice.

Please attach your project so we can take a look.  Also, what version of SignalExpress are you using and what hardware (if any)?

  • Signal express custom calibration data, where is it?

I have a PXI 1042 rack with 4472 modules. I am using Signal exress 2011.
I have setup with custom scaling for the channels (so that I can log in engineering units rather than volts).
I have just replaced the disk and reinstalled everything. I have got everything working BUT...
When I try to open a previous Setup file it no comes up with an error stating it cant find the calibration values!
Is the custom scaling calibration data stored outside the Signal express setup file, if so where is it?
    Thanks
    mike

    Ok sorted.
Refitted old disc with previous system on it. Ran  Measurement and Explorer and then exported the configuration data.
Fitted new disk, imported configuratio data and all the scaling is restored.
Useful lesson, I had always thought the scaling was held in the TDMS files but its in the .nce files from the measurment and Explorer.

  • How do I open/view Signal Express Data .tdms files? (Absolutely Brand New User!)

    Hi everyone,
I've inherited this data recording software from a previous engineer and tried it out for the first time the other week. Mind you I have no manuals or help really here, so bear with me that this is probably a very basic question.
I had a set-up using the Labview Signal Express ver.2.5 and NI-USB-6008 monitoring two voltages. I currently want to see the playback of the .tdms files which are located in my C:\Documents and Settings\TechSupport\My Documents\SignalExpress Data\08042009_015232_PM folder (3 files, voltage.tdms, voltage.tdms_index, and voltage_meta). I opened LabVIEW Signal Express and clicked "File", "Import", "Logged Signals From SignalExpress TDMS Files", and go to select the "voltage.tdms" file, but receive the error of "You cannot choose this folder name; a file of that name already exists".
Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks for any and all help (and let the sarcastic comments begin )

Sometimes, selecting current folder instead of open is a valid workaround.
Also, can you identify the program responsible for creating the log data? Are you able to view this data using another progarm like LabVIEW or DIAdem?

  • Can Signal Express prompt the user for the next ascii file name?

I am using the following to collect data from Thermocouples and Strain Guages in our plant.  It allows me to plt data every second, while recording only every 3 seconds to cut down the file size.
    Big Loop-
    Small Loop-
          Conitional repeat...
          DAQmx Aquire...
          Statistics (mean) Temp...
          Statistics (mean) Press...
          Current Iteration...
    End Small Loop-
    Save to ASCII/LVM
The problem is that I have to configure the save step as "overwrite once, then append" so I get a single file each time the project runs.  How can I get Signal Express to either prompt the user for a new file name with each run or have the ascii file saved into the log directory for that run.  As it stands now, the file gets overwritten with each new project run.
    Thank you.
    new user

    Hi crawlejg,
You can set signal express to increment the file being created each time.  But if you are looking for 1 new file each time the project runs you will have to use LabVIEW as this advanced functionality is not available in Signal Express.  If you need help getting this to work in LabVIEW or have any other questions please feel free to ask!

  • Signal express record from 3rd party VI driver

    Hi,
Highlight - Can I record data from a 3rd party VI driver in signal express?
Detail - I am tasked with developing a 'easy to use' data logging system for both voltage and temperature. Voltage will be logged via a NI cDAQ module, no problem here, temperature however will be logged from a LakeShore temperature controller, ie from a third party driver. My first thoughts were to use Signal express rather than coding my own GUI, obviously SE is easy to use for cDAQ Voltage modules.... but has it been crippled to prevent the use of VI drivers for third party kit?
Ideally I would like multiple series plotted and recorded by Signal Express, some from the cDAQ modules and some from one or more Lakeshore temperature controller and monitors, is this fundamentally possible in Signal Express? I can see that SE seems to have the ability to run labview VI's so I am hopefull!
I am using NI 2013 - full bells and whistles.
    Cheers,
    Chris

    Hello wonderwizard,
Yes you can use a Plug & Play Instrument driver. Some examples have already been created and mentioned in this Knowledge Base Article.

  • Signal Express 2009 causing NIMAX to generate an Error Exception message

I have a system that gives an error message when I try to open an instrument in NIMAX. The popup error message says "unexpected Error", with a code of "MAXKnownException. This system is running Windows XP and we had Signal Express 3.0 with NIMAX 4.3 running perfectly. We upgraded to Signal Express 2009 with NIMAX 4.6 and this problem occurs.
The error log message that is gereated is
"The niVISAui.mxx plug-in caused an exception in the CmxAggregateItemUI::GetToolbar function in the NIMax process."
    Thanks

    Hello,
I am getting the same message stating "Measurement and Automation Explorer encountered an unexpected error since it was last run. For more information, visit ni.com/info and enter the Info Code MAXKnownException." I did so and matched all the known exceptions but could not really find anything useful.
I am using MAX version 4.7 have LabVIEW 2010 and the latest verion of NI-DAQ installed as well. I am using this on Windows XP OS.
I have also attached the error message screenshot in this post (Error1.jpg).
In addition I have also added the error messages which I received on continuing to open the MAX nonetheless and then opening Devices and Interfaces and the error on trying to work through using LabVIEW Signal Express for DAQ. (Error.jpg)
Could you please let me know what this might be about and how can I resolve the errors?

    Hello Munir,
I have tested this issue and it works properly for me. I am able to load multicolumn data in signal express (see attachment).I look at your picture which you have posted. In fact the delimiter is empty in your task. Even this information is very important and could be a reason for this behaviour. Please look in your text file and find out which delimiter is using between several columns. For example I use a tabulator in my text file.(see attachment)
    I hope this helps.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about this issue.
