Signal Loss after a 300ft RG6Q Cable Run

I have a long run of a 300ft RG6 Quad cable from one point to another.  No other way of going about it.  Due to this long run, some of the high frequency channels such as ESPN and TBS are not working.  Using a Motorola Amp allows the channels to work obviously but before of incompatible Return Path frequencies causes the VOD and Guide not to function.
Can Verizon increase the signal strength for my service and/or are there FiOS compatible amps that Verizon can supply to me?  I know that not all tech support understands these type of runs and the use of amplifiers for FiOS.
I'm also going to be trying to use a Coax Combiner in conjunction with the Amplifier to see if that sends the return signal back.  Not sure if a passive return or active return amplifier matters?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Ed

You need a birectional amp that supports MoCA.  There's another thread on this:  see here.

  • Signal loss after updates 4.3 & 4.3.1

Just wondering if anyone else has had signal problems after the latest round of updates? Never had a problem before at all, but now it's showing the network connection lost & no service on a regular basis, all in areas where I've had no issues in the past. Tried reboot few times, no effect. Could be a massive coincidence that the network may be having problems, anyone from the UK on 3 confirm this? Cheers

Exactly the same problem, on Three U.K.
It's not the network though - I have two iPhone 4's sat next to each other - one upgraded to 4.3.1 and one still unupgraded (and won't be until this is fixed).
No signal in most of my house, and even when I get a brief one bar calls drop.
Have tried all the obvious :-
    1. Full factory reset and set up as new iPhone.
    2. Tried swapping SIMs - problem stays with 4.3.1 phone.
Looks like the new baseband is broken or at the very least has been set to consume less power hence not enough power to it.
    Very disappointed.

  • IPhone 4S signal loss after upgrade to iOS6

Does anyone has experimented a remarkable issue on the signal strength after upgrading the iPhone 4s to iOS 6? I'm having a lot of problems with the reception of my phone; most of the time I only can see 3 bars, and as soon as I grip my phone (with my left hand) the signal goes away totally and the "No Service" label appears; a side effect of this is battery life is much less as the phone is alway searching for signal (in the backgroun as I don't see the searching label).
Do we really have the "Deathgrip" issue again?
Please let me know if you've seen a similar behavor on your phone and if you fixed it, thanks.

    Hi folks,
I've experienced the same symptom  - cell bars dropping away then 'Searching' message - after I installed IOS 6 on my iphone 4.  The only twist is that I only experienced the symptom when I had a location service-based app open like Apple Maps, Google Maps, Waze, or Scout.  I found a fix though!  After I reset my Network Settings the problem is gone.  Go to General --> Reset --> Reset Network Settings and activate it.  The only caveat is that you'll have to reconnect to your wifi-based network (if you have one) and type in your wifi password again.  Hope this helps.

  • Verizon iP4S signal loss after phone call

So, I'm new to Verizon, long time ATT customer. So, I have a 4S, wife has a iP4. After i get done with many, but not all, phone calls, my phone completely loses signal and the carrier banner says "Searching." using 5.0.1. Wife's using iOS 5. I have done the *228 PRL update. Same thing, after many phone calls, loss of signal, have to wait to reacquire before making another phone call. Any hints or tips?

settings - general - reset - reset network settings.
also do a reset, hold down the home/sleep button together until you see the apple logo and then release, then wait for the phone to boot back up.
If the above doesn't work, then suggest you contact your cell phone provider and let them know about your cellular data issue.

  • Signal loss after ios7 upgrade

After the iOS 7 update my iPhone 4S regularly loosed the phone signal (when there was a stong Signal and in areas where I know there is a signal). The only way to get the signal back is to turn it off and on again.  How can I solve this problem?

try a reset, no data loss.  Hold down the home/sleep button together until you see the apple logo and then release, then wait for the phone to boot back up.
    or
settings - general - reset - reset network settings.

  • 3G Signal Loss after upgrading to ios 4.0.1 ?

    Hello Everyone,
I don't think that I am the only one with a 3GS that is having this problem. I have the iphone 3GS, I was very excited to upgrade to ios 4.0. Once the upgrade was complete everything was just fine. Then came along ios 4.0.1, I figured why not. Isn't that what you are supposed to do to keep you phone up to date. Well, ever since I upgraded to ios 4.0.1 I have lost my 3G signal. My wife's phone is the exact same model, purchased at the exact same time. She is still running ios 4.0 and not having any problems. I spoke with Apple Care today and they said that ios 4.0.1 was in no way going to affect the 3G signal strength. Now, if I take my phone and my wife's phone and hold them side by side. She will have full signal and I might have one bar. Then when I go to safari and try to load a web page. Her phone,(with 5 bars) will download twice as fast as mine.
Is there any way for me to go back to ios 4.0?
Thanks Apple for fixing all of the iphone4 problems and creating one on the 3GS and then not acknowledging it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Demi

  • Signal losses after restoring. Why?

    Hello,
I currently have a problem with my iPhone5c’s signal, bought from September last year. It suddenly started a few days ago.
My signal on the phone keeps on failing. It keeps on saying “Searching…” and it sometimes catches the signal and would say “EE 4G”. However, instantly afterwards, it switches back to “Searching”. This repetition happens continuously and not only unable to connect 3G, but I cannot even make a call or a text to people.
Also, when I try to go to “Settings” and to “Mobile”, it refuses to open and goes back to the main page.
When I erase all the content of my iPhone and start it up as a new phone, the problem seems to get sorted. The phone will get its signal back. Nevertheless, when I try to restore the data from iTunes to the phone, the problem also comes back. No matter how many times I tried, the result seemed to be the same. (I have tried it 4 or 5 times). From this, I believe the problem is not on the iPhone’s hardware, but in the software.
I have taken my phone to the Apple Geniuses counter, but they told me the problem should be on the software and if restoring brings the problem back, it is best to set up the phone as a new phone as finding one part that is causing a problem will be difficult. I have tried it myself, but the problem remained the same even when I deleted all the apps and the photos and refreshed it. I have even updated all the apps and the iPhone’s software into IOS7.1, but it did not help.
Does anyone have any idea of fixing the problem without losing all the photos, apps, music data that currently sits on the phone?
As I am out of ideas I would appreciate for any ideas or tips.
Thank you for reading such a long statement.

Import all your pictures, sync your contacts, music and apps can be reloaded. You have no choice; if you want the phone to work right, you're going to have to restore it as a new device.

    so strange and annoying..

    Hi,
I had similar issue on a smaller network. After hours and hours on try to resolve this issue on the software side, I found it to be "only" interferance.
Maybe your isssue is different but here is a quick test if you have a portable computer; just place you in front of your AE and see if it still cuts. If it is not, you can suspect wireless interference.
Besides your multiple AE, do you have another wireless router?
Wireless interference may come from wireless phone, neightboor wireless network, microwave, etc. In the case you found this to be related, you may try different channel but remember that only channel 1, 6 and 11 are not overlapping.

  • Signal loss after dialing.

I have a Droid X2 and every time I hit dial my service drops 2-4 bars.  I've been in to the verizon store and they said they haven't seen the problem before and were unable to fix anything.  Just to clairify every time I try to make a call my service/signal drops.  This isn't happening because I'm driving down the road I can sit on the couch with 4 bars and a 3g connection and as soon as I hit dial I'm down to 1 or 0 bars.  Any help would be great. Thanks

Thanks so much for reaching out to us, richiej24!
You mentioned that this happens every time you try to make a call, but I would like to know if this is something that just began or has it been this way since you got the phone?
Have you recently dialed *228 option 2?
When the signal drops, does it prevent the calls from going through? I would love to see why this is happening and look forward to your reply.

  • Loss of AP signal strength after upgrading to Clean Air on 5508's.

After upgrading three 5508's (which support 150 AP's) from WLC/WCS version  6.0.182.0 to version 7.0.98.0, our users complained about low signal strength.  Our pre-upgrade RSSI benchmarks confirmed a decrease of -10dB to -20dB signal strength across all AP's, effectively causing wireless networking to be unusable in key areas.
After confirming our Global signal strength settings in WCS and WLC's were still at the same settings they were at prior to upgrading, we contacted our VAR for advice.
He suggested that perhaps the upgrade caused all AP's to run at a lower signal strength.  He was right.
At his recommendation, we reconfigured the WCS to set two AP's to use Individual mode instead of Global mode.  This is found in Radios/802.11b/g/n/Tx Power Level Assignment.  Setting them to level 2 resulted in an average -15dB increase of RSSI, solving our problems in the test environment.  In one case we saw an increase of -30 dB for one AP.
The signal strength loss due to the upgrade was not expected, based on the upgrade documentation.  Now we must change the settings manually on the remaining 148 AP's.
I'd like to hear from anyone else who has experienced a decrease in signal strength after upgrading to Clean Air 7.  If you have information from Cisco that documents this problem, I'd REALLY like to read it.
    Hoping this may help you,
    RS

    Hi Rick,
this is not "expected" or "on purpose". It just happens that improving the RRM algorithm makes things better for 90% of the people but maybe worse for 10% of the people.
This is why you can set the Tx power treshold on the RRM or set the overal RRM algorithm sensitivity.
If you put the Tx power treshold to a louder number (=closer to 0) then the APs will reduce less their power level.
    Hope this helps.

    Hello,
I am trying to connect my laptop to my TV. The computer flashes blue after I plug the cable in but the TV says there is no signal.
    I have a Mac Book Pro 2009 and a Samsung 32" Class (31.5" Diag.) 450 Series 720p LCD HDTV (2010 model).
I am using a mini display port to VGA adapter. I have sucessfully hooked up boh devices but it stopped working after a handful of times. I was wondering if there is anything I can do to fix the problem or is my cable broken?

  • (Bug) Google Talk on webOS 2.1 doesn't re-login after signal loss

    Device: Palm Pre 2
    WebOS version: 2.1.0
Issue:  Google Talk does not automatically re-login after signal loss (and sometimes gets into a state that it cannot re-login at all)
Description:  Whenever I lose signal (go in the elevator, into tunnels on the subway, etc...) I get logged out of Google Talk. On Palm Pre + with 1.4.5 on ATT i would never have a problem as it would always log me back in automatically as soon as (or shortly after) signal was found again, whether wifi or 3g/edge.   But on Palm Pre 2 with webos 2.1, it stays logged off.  I can manually set status to Available to re-login, but its really annoying and clearly used to work in the past.  Additionally, in certain circumstances I get disconnected and CANNOT manually log back in.  I try to set status to Available but nothing happens, no spinner, no nothing.  The only way to get this to work again is if I do a restart (or Luna restart).  I've notice this happens at my school where 3g connectivity is really poor and frequently I don't have any.  Instead I connect to the school's wifi network which sometimes disconnects.  After losing connectivity too many times and/or too many login failures, it just stops allowing me to re-login, even manually, until I restart.
This is really annoying and is a regression as it used to work in 1.4.5.  Any ideas how to fix it and/or if a fix is being worked on would be greatly appreciated.

  • MSI P45 Neo3-FR and MSI HD4850 signal loss

    My computer:
    MSI P45 Neo3-FR
    MSI HD4850
    E8400 E0
    2x2Gb DDR2 800MHz (MDT)
    Samsung F1 320Gb
    Toughpower Qfan 500W PSU
    Vista 64-bit
    The problem:
The motherboard came with BIOS version 1.0 which didn't support the E8400 E0. To fix that I had to update to version 1.3, which solved the processor issue but now the graphics card loses the signal at random while playing just about any game and after restarting the computer sometimes keeps on rebooting a couple of times. I read at the german tomshardware forum of someone with a similar problem that solved the problem by using BIOS version 1.2 but that isn't really an option for me since it doesn't support my processor. So any ideas?

Your PSU is only capable of 18A on 12V1 and 12V2, and only 16A on 12V3.  But, that doesn't mean that the rails can deliver all those amps at the same time, it's just the max.  Try to borrow a better PSU, preferably a powerful single +12V rail one, or get one as yours is not that great.
A good one to get would be the Corsair VX 550 or the TX 650 Corsair. Both are quiet and have powerful single +12V lines.
According to the ati webpage the Toughpower Qfan 500W is on the supported list for HD4850/70 though. One strange thing I just noticed is that 3dmark06 and furmark seem to run stable but gaming causes random signal losses. Of course it might also be a driver issue or something else(using catalyst 8.7 with Catalyst Control Center).
edit: Just noticed there is a new bios v1.4 available so I'll try that out and report back.
edit2: Ok, 1.4 was a disaster and wouldn't even let me reinstall Vista without bluescreens so now I'm trying out 1.2 and it seems to be working ok so far although it doesn't officially support my cpu.

  • Any noticable signal loss with the DVI-to-video adapter?

Hi, there. Would any of you happen to know whether there's an appreciable signal loss when converting from DVI to, say, composite video via the DVI-to-video adapter? I'd like to hook my MBP up to an HDTV (when I eventually get one), and I'm wondering if going through the adapter would produce a degraded picture for DVDs, compared to a direct digital connection from a DVD player to the TV.
Actually, I'm wondering the same thing about the audio connection. Any loss in audio quality when using an adapter to connect the MBP's mini-jack to an HDTV or receiver?
    Thanks much.

    ragamoffyn,
While there's no "signal loss," as such, there is a considerable loss in signal quality. However, you're over-thinking this...
HDTVs accept HDMI connections, and your Macbook Pro has a DVI output. The ports are dissimilar, but digital video signal is the same. In other words, you would simply use a DVI-to-HDMI cable. In fact, many HD cable boxes (mine included) still have a DVI port, not an HDMI port. There is no loss of signal or quality.
Really, the only difference between DVI and HDMI is the fact that HDMI transmits both video and digital audio. DVI doesn't do this, so you must resort to transmitting audio separately. Not a problem: use an optical digital cable, which your Macbook Pro will accept (as will most HDTVs). That said, you might be better off connecting the audio portion of your MBP's output to a home entertainment (surround sound??) receiver.
Now, I'm not sure about the "progressive scan" capabilities of the Macbook Pro and DVD Player. You'll have to research that yourself. I can tell you that normal DVDs can be "upconverted" by a progressive scan set-top DVD player, and the result looks absolutely stunning on an HDTV. It's not quite as good as full HD, but it comes pretty close. Also, many newer units are being made with HDMI ports. In other words, the DVD is upconverted, and the result is transmitted over a full HD connection. Best of all, these set-top boxes can be had for under $100.
BTW, the composite video you suggest is simply "standard definition," and not the best SD at that (S-Video is better). Component video (where there are three separate "RCA"-type connectors) is much, much better, but even that doesn't match digital (DVI or HDMI). Also, the DVI-to-HDMI cable you will need can be had at Walmart for around $30. They can also be found at places like Best Buy or CompUSA, but these retailers tend to over-charge for over-blown items (No one needs a "Monster" HDMI cable that costs over $100, and which does no more than the $30 cable from Walmart; digital is digital).

  • Periodic signal loss on DCT700 digital adapter

Our kitchen TV is connected to the FiOS ONT via a basic digital adapter (Motorola DCT700/US). On some TV channels, the sound disappears and the picture freezes for up to a few seconds at regular intervals.
The problem affects only channels 11 through 25, as far as I can tell (I didn't try every single one!). It occurs at the top of every minute, at the instant when the on-screen clock display rolls over to the next minute. Sometimes the event lasts for only a second or so, in which case the sound resumes and the picture unfreezes after the interruption. If the signal loss persists for longer, I get a gray screen with a message that "the channel is having technical difficulties" before the program resumes. Either way, it's very annoying.
If I'm watching the same channel via the SD set-top box in the living room, or via either of the CableCards in the TiVo DVR, there is no interruption of sound or picture.
The DCT700 was installed and activated by the Verizon rep as part of my FiOS installation two weeks ago. I don't recall the problem showing up when he performed his final checkup before leaving, but it's possible we chose channels outside the range mentioned above and/or weren't watching the TV during the fairly short time interval during which the problem occurs.
I tried disconnecting the power adapter from the DCT700 for about a minute, but the problem was still present after the DCT700 restarted.

    DukeDog wrote:
I pulled the plug and re-plugged all 3 adapters and none of them show a channel number.  Very odd.  And none of the of the manuals even reference the problem to find out how to correct it.
Do you have any idea why I'm not getting channels like CNN?  Am I supposed to be getting channels like CNN?
The "trick" of unplugging should resolve the channel display issue (it only shows up for a short period in the bottom left of the TV screen immediately after changing channels).
As Matcarl said, if you are not getting all the SD channels you are subscribed to you need to contact Verizon as the boxes have apparently not been provisioned correctly.
