Signal Quality issues - totally stumped

My first post so apologies if I step on anyones toes.
I've had a browse through and can't find an existing post that covers my scenario.
For a while now my box has been having issues on certain channels. The exact scenario is that the signal quality drops to below 25% which causes picture blocking / freezing.
Before anyone says its a MUX issue, I have tried.
1) New cables
2) Rebooting
3) Factory reset
4) A known good cheapie freeview receiver from Asda shows a static 95% quality on the channels where the BT Vision box has problems. With both the old and the new cables. No signal bouncing - stays solidly at 95% (or thereabouts)
The specific channels it has issues with are Channel 21 (VIVA),Channel 38 (quest +1). I am on Waltham transmitter and other channels on the MUXes have 85% quality and higher on the BT Vision box. On VIVA and Quest +1 the quality bounces all over the place between less than 25% upto 87%.
If it was all channels on the MUX then I'd know it was time for aerial reposition, but with it being on only specific channels and a cheapie receiver working perfectly I'm a bit stumped??
Additionally, since the new firmware, I use a 4:3 TV through SCART and the screen real estate now seems wrong as it chops the bottom off the screen when in the new menu system  - so things telling me what to press are lost - ie: to delete a recording from the recordings section  I can't see any advice at the bottom of the screen as was there on the old firmware, I basically found it was the red button by trial and error. I'm guessing BT think we all have HDMI TV's and maybe the menu works OK on HDMI.
Its as though the tuner has just decided it doesn't like channels 21 and 38  - maybe its telling me to to watch some better quality programs...   Or more seriously, maybe its cooked and has a specific frequency reception issue? Unlikely but I can't think what else it could be.
If anyone can advise I'd appreciate some guidance as I've pretty much exhausted my limited knowledge of TV transmitter behaviour.
Pete

Hi Pete65,
It could be possible that if you are in the Northampton/Milton Keys/ Bedford/ etc areas, that particular mux could have some signal interference .
There was a post earlier which I can't find right now, where the author talks about signal quality vs signal strength.
It could also be possible that the signal is too strong which could cause a detrimental effect on the quality.

  • Youview Signal/Quality Issues

I have had a Youview box for a few weeks now and ever since it arrived the signal and picture quality has been very unreliable and patchy, with pixelation, horizontal lines appearing across the screen and breakup in sound when viewing live TV and recordings. I have re-tuned all the channels several times, signal strength is constantly 80% and above, signal quality is 100% and i have tried several different aerial cables and this problem still persists.
If anyone has any ideas then they would be weclome. This seems to be for most channels but im noticing it most on BBC1, BBC2, ITV and their HD versions.
    Thanks.

Thanks for the responses all, my BBC 1 is showing as BBC1 East E which would make sense as im in the north norwich area.
I managed to convince my girlfriend to ditch sky for Youview with BT and so far all i have had is complaints that it was a mistake, so im really hoping that I can find a solution to this to make it all go away
Im on ITV HD at the moment and seems ok, the occasional spasm but not as bad as the BBC channels.

  • Signal quality question

So, this morning when I came into work, the flourescent lights were off (I always like that), and my iPhone had 4 bars of signal quality sitting in a spot on my desk and was on the edge network...
An hour later, I came back, and my phone had 1 bar of signal, and no edge network. What was different? The ligths were on...
Can flourescent lights interfere with signal quality? Of course I know there is all kinds of 60Hz EMI that is going on...and as much as I would like to flip the lights on and off all day to test this theory, I don't think my collegues would appreciate it.

I too have been having VERY strange signal quality issues.
I can be sitting in a chair in my house getting full signal
strength and surfing the web when all of a sudden the signal
goes to one bar. On some occasions I will loose my Edge indicator (the E) and an error message will pop up saying I lost Edge data. This has happened plenty of times while just sitting still. I was thinking that this behavior had to do with the cell site I was in at the time, but perhaps there is more to this. Anyone else have this strange issue?

After IOS8 upgrade IPhone5s syncs with exchange but IPad2 syncs ONLY Mail and Contacts, NOT Calendar.
Also, my other tablet - Samsung TabS - has same issue - calendar wont sync. My IPhone and my desktop (windows) synch just fine.
Google calendar syncs on all devices. Totally stumped. Ideas anyone?
    THANKS

    1.      Log onto Outlook Web Access
    2.      Top right hand part of the screen select "Options"
    3.     Select "See All Options"
    4.      Select "Phone" menu
Check if you have 10 Devices registered.
If you have, you need to delete one of them to add your new Smart Phone to Exchange for synching
Check the "Last Sync Time" to indicate if this device is still active or not.

  • Has Apple addressed poor sound quality issues with new 160GB iPod classic?

I just bought a new 160GB iPod classic, replacing a perfectly good 80GB iPod Video (5.5), thinking that the newer one would be superior to my 3 year old model. I discovered that the sound of the new unit was flat and muddy compared to the older model. I found that the 5th gen iPod video was more "spacial", if that's an appropriate word to use; the bass was more present and more clearly defined, as was the rest of the sonic spectrum. I searched several forums to research this issue and while there were numerous references to this issue, all of the posts I found referred to the original iPod classics (80GB and 160GB) and not the later 120GB classics nor the new 160GB classics like the one I bought. Has Apple done anything to address this issue since the first classics were released or are the new ones still suffering from the same sound quality issues as the original classics?

Based on your observations here, they apparently have not changed the sound quality since the original 160GB classic. I noticed a clear narrowing of the sound stage (ambiance) between the 5.5G 80Gb and my 6G 160GB. You're describing the same characteristic. I don't own the newest 160GB version and came here today to see if it might have improved the sound quality back to the 5.5 spaciousness. Note that the 5.5G has a higher signal to noise ratio than the 6G, making it difficult for me to enjoy it through efficient balanced armature in ear monitors like the Shure SE530s or Ulimate Ears Triple.Fi 10s.

  • Quality issues with VGA port on Type 2504 docking station

    Hi,
I see quality issues on the VGA output of the Type 2504 docking station with a T61. The monitor image is blurred, not much, but enough to be irritating. When I compare the DVI output with the VGA output on two equal NEC MultiSync LCD 2170NX monitors it is a clear difference. If I connect the LCD monitor to the VGA output of the T61 itself, the picture is clean. I have tried both monitors with different cables in different configurations and also adjusted monitors manually, and my conclusion is that it must be the VGA output of the 2504 that generates the un-sharpness. I have got several 2504 docking stations from the IT department to test and all attempts show the same unsharp picture on the LCD connected to the VGA port of any 2504. Recently a colleague got a new laptop and docking station. He also used DVI and VGA on the old setup and had no visible difference between the two monitors. His new setup is a different T but his new dock is also a 2504. Now he has clear difference between his monitors. He also tried several 2540 docks and cables but the difference is still present.
The unsharpness is not immediately present when just looking at a dual head setup. But after a while it becomes tiresome to look at text, specially black on white, on the monitor connected to the VGA port. There is a slight shadow on the right side of all letters. When looking at non-aliased fonts, they look as if aliased on the VGA connected monitor. Already aliased fonts tend to "smear" and I have the unpleasant feeling that my eyes are not focusing correctly.
My question is: Is there a different VGA DAC on the docking station, or are the analog signals just wired through from the laptop VGA DAC? Older IBM docks do not have this problem, we have a lot of them at work in dual head configuration with DVI + VGA to compare, and we only see this problem with the 2504.

VGA is an analogue signal... so it can be affected by the quality of DAC chip used by the GPU associated electronics, the quality of connectors on the vga out and dock (that is why good analgoue audio equipment use gold plated stuffs) and the quality of copper wire and shiedling used in the cable (i.e. Low Oxygen Content Copper wire).
The above is general description for all people to use <---- so please don't feel offended if i repeat something that is already said.
There is NO conversion electronics on the dock per se, they are just passthrough, so no conversion.
I guess the problem lies with improper shielding somewhere. I have the same problem with my T61/60 and dock and my T40,41,42,43 on five different docks.
So i have ended up using lenovo usb2dvi converter on T61 and have two dvi output and bypassed the vga altogether.

  • Second Display Quality Issue

I have a mid-2010 iMac 27" and it works wonderfully for me. I need a second monitor to place other applications on, so I grabbed an unused Asus VN247H monitor that my son was not using. It has a 24 or so inch display and accepts HDMI and VGA inputs. I purchased an Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter and connected the Asus to the back of the iMac. It works, but I'm underwhelmed by the quality I get on the Asus. Yeah, I know - it isn't a top-of-the-line monitor, and it is never gonna look as good as the iMac, but it isn't a $10 el cheapo, either. It is a good monitor and has a 1ms refresh rate. Anyway, no matter what resolution I try using, the output on that second display looks, well... crappy. The text letters are a little blurry, they are a lot larger than I figured they would be, and - I don't know - it just isn't what I was expecting. One thing I notice is that in the documentation for the monitor, it shows that I should be able to go up to 1920 x 1080 but that isn't the case. When I bring up the OS X System Preferences-->Displays, on the Asus VGA part it only shows a max setting of 1600 x 1200. I tried clicking that but the monitor complains and sez it's past the capability of itself. I am supposing it's because of having VGA instead of digital??
So, I've ordered the Apple Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter in hopes that an HDMI digital connection will give me better looking display and the full compliment of resolution options. Am I out in left field on this supposition? Or, is there some other thing I've not thought about in order to get a sharp looking second display?
    Thanks, Jim

Well, after four days, there have been a grand total of ZERO replies to this post / question. Either my question was lame, or no one else has run into a second monitor quality issue. At any rate, I'm answering my own posting - perhaps someone, somewhere might run into the issue and come across this information.
The answer to the question is: YES, changing to an HDMI connection between the iMac and the secondary monitor made a HUGE difference in quality. Why I went with a VGA adapter in the first place is unknown. But the HDMI connection is for sure the way to go. Colors look good, text is "almost" as good as on the iMac.
    Problem solved.

  • Sdo_util.simplify - Error? Bug? Totally stumped !

    Hi folks,
    I have a confusing problem/error with using sdo_util.simplify. I am using Oracle 11G R2 with Spatial Option.
I have loaded just over 2000 UK postown polygons - based on an OS source. These loaded fine and have been working perfectly well with spatial sql.
The source data specifies the projection as British National Grid GCS_OSGB_1936 and the SRID within the Oracle metadata was correctly (i believe) determined (by calculate mbr) and set to 7405 - OSGB36 / British National Grid
I can view the polygons perfectly fine in SqlDeveloper/GeoRaptor and if export them to KML and view them in Google Earth they position and display exactly as I would expect.
All other spatial functions I have tried on the polygons work fine.
The problem comes when I try and use sdo_util.simplify to reduce the number of co-ordinates used on the polygons :
    select sdo_util.simplify(poly_hi,100,0.005)
    from posttown_boundaries;

I've tried various threshold and tolerance values ( the only threshold value that works is 0 which returns the same geometry.
I have successfully used the sdo_util.simpify functions on the other spatial objects in the database so I don't believe it to be a database setup issue.
When I run a validate geometry on the table for the geometry column I get the ORA-13029: Invalid SRID in the SDO_GEOMETRY object.
However, as explained above the SRID was selected and checked using calculate MBR and it matches exactly what I would have expected given the source data and i have not found any other issues with the SRID.
The error can be reproduced without any of the source tables by just taking one small polygon definition as follows:
    select sdo_util.simplify(

    Many thanks in advance.

    Hi Mike,
Usually someone jumps in early with the "geometry ain't valid" answer so I am late to the party. When I attempt to validate your 7405 geometry using 11gR2, I receive back error 13029.
    SELECT

dualThe error indicates that SRID 7405 "is invalid" which is not really all that informative. As you note above 7405 exists in MDSYS but its marked as a COMPOUND CRS which to keep it simple is a 3D CRS.
    (see http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/appdev.111/b28400/sdo_cs_concepts.htm#autoId18)
Thus "invalid" in this context means the SRID is invalid for the geometry you are putting it upon.
So if we just add a Z to your geometry everything works hunky-dory

dualSo long-winded way to reiterate what Ivan said - you are using the wrong SRID. 10g was more forgiving than 11g when mixing and matching 3D and 2D SRIDs with data. 11g is more picky but not always that great at explaining the pickiness. I would bet if you had got back an error such as "2D coordinates not valid with 3D SRID" you would never have needed to post the question. I would suggest putting in an enhancement request to Support for some better error messages.

  • Labview Application missing SubVI's, totally stumped

Hello. I am working on a VI that is a simple thermocouple datalogger. I have created it in Labview 2013 (latest patch) on a Windows 7 Machine. It works correctly on the development machine with Labview installed. It uses custom drivers for an Advantech USB 4718 data acqusition module. These drivers were downloaded directly from the manufacturer.
When I build an application and copy it over to a different machine (running windows 8) I get a laundry list of missing SubVIs when I try to run it (see image). This is despite installing all relevant data aquisition drivers (I have verified that the module works with the manufacturers own daq software) the latest version of Labview 2013 run time engine, DAQmx, etc.... I can't think of anything else that should be installed but Im totally stumped.
Anything else I can try? Is it because the Dev machine is windows 7 but the application machine is windows 8? I'm new to building applications from labview, so I'm not sure what I may be missing. Thank you.
    Error Message(s)

It seems that most of these VIs are used by the DAQNaviAssistant from Advantech.
You should ask Advantech if there are known issues when building executables in LV which contain these ExpressVIs.
Also, you can re-build your EXE without optimizing the EXE content by de-selecting all checkmarks on the "Additional Exclusions" tab. It is possible that one of these options remove these subVIs.
What bothers me is that it runs on the development machine... which indicates that the EXE itself should really contain everything what it needs (except driver functions, namely DLLs of course).

  • Tricky Exchange 2013 send issue - im stumped...

    Hi everyone,
I ran into an issue this morning in my Exchange 2013 SP1 environment today that has me stumped. Like most issues, it just happens. No changes, patches or updates to the system were applied and the system was normal until now. Here is my problem –
My Outlook users have their own mailboxes, and my company has a Help Desk email box that has its own user account. My users are set up via Exchange / Outlook to have their own mailboxes and full access to Help Desk mailbox in their Outlook .
Each Outlook client in configured with the users account, and the Help Desk account because users want to be able to hit the FROM button in Outlook and chose whether a reply comes from them personally or the Help Desk mailbox.  This has worked great,
    up until now.
All of a sudden, you cannot send from the Help Desk account anymore. The mailbox opens up, a user can see and access all the mail and it is receiving email fine. But if a user wants to reply or create NEW email, choses FROM and uses the Help Desk account
they get this error on sending
Sending reported error (0x8004010F) Outlook data file cannot be accessed.
The users regular account works fine.
I recreated the mail profile, didn’t help the issue. I checked on OWA and if you access the Help Desk account on its own it sends fine.
If you create an email from your own email account and CC the Help Desk, it sends fine.
All users have Full Access permission and Send As permission on the server.
Nothing has changed that I know of and this worked totally fine for almost a year until today, it just stops working.
Any ideas, I’m totally stumped… I have to apply CU7 still this weekend, maybe that will do something. But as of now I cant even see any real errors as to whats going on here.
    Ric

    Hi,
In your case, please check the autodiscover and OAB by using "Test E-mail AutoConfiguration".
If autodiscover fails, please troubleshoot the autodiscover by directly accessing the autodiscover url via IE and let me know the error code. If autodiscover works, you need to troubleshoot the OAB generation, publishing and downloading issues.
For OAB generation and publishing issues, you can check the application logs on the CAS and Mailbox servers. For the OAB downloading issue, you can manually access the OAB url via IE and see if there is any error code.
Hope this can be helpful to you.

  • Sinus signal quality

    Hello!
What is the best way to define quality of sinus signal?
    Regards!

I'm not completely sure what you are trying to find. Two common measures of signal "quality" are signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and total harmonic distortion (THD).

  • HP Officejet Pro L7590 - print quality issue

We've had a lot of problems with this unit since day one.  It simply wouldn't work with our XP computers.  Thankfully it does work with our new Windows 7 computer.
The problem I'm having is that I have to clean the printheads at least once, if not twice, before every print job if it hasn't printed anything recently (even an hour or two).
Although we've had the printer for a while, it has hardly been used because it wouldn't work with our previous computers (and I gave up trading emails with HP support because the situation just got worse each time we tried something, not better).  The myPrintMileage function says we've printed just over 300 pages (and I can pretty much guarantee that at least 250 of those have been diagnostic pages trying to get it working, not actual print jobs).
The only advice I can find on the troubleshooting page is to replace the printhead/s.  Is that really the case?  We have already had to replace ink cartridges before we ever got the printer working.  If we now have to replace one or both printheads this machine is proving very costly to run.  I would be very disappointed to find we had had to replace all four ink cartridges and both printheads before we ever got the machine working properly.
I'd appreciate any feedback you can offer on this please.

  • Iphone 6 call quality issue....

Hi, yesterday i saw software update in my iphone 6 and i thought it will solve the call quality issue , but unfortunately it was not for that.
Dear iphone support , the call quality in iphone 6 is really bad, I was using iphone 4S and that had great voice quality. iphone 6 voice during call is not clear , it has noise .
When I told my friends about the problem , they told me that I might have bought the refurbish phone. But I bought it from Dubai in 750 USD and I do not think it would be the case.

Since my iPhone 6 has great Call Quality,
My tip would be to take it to an Apple shop. All apple Products have world wide warranty.
If it is really they should be able to fix it.
    Hope this helps,

  • Print quality issues

    Hello
We are having print quality issue when printing PDF's to our Canon iR C2880/C3380 UFR II.  This was the most recent print driver from canons website which was download about 6 weeks ago. version 2.9.  At one time we were having other pring quality issues and we changed from the post script driver to the ufr ii which solved the problem at the time.
This past saturday we upgrade the operating systems on the systems in question and they are now running windows 7 64 bit with service pack 1 installed. image 1 is the orignal pdf that was printed with a 3rd party pdf printer(PDF Xchange view version 2.5)  image 2 is the same document that was printed using acrobat reader 10.1.2
the options for the print were pretty much identical between the program.  Print as image was not selected.  1 thing to note with the acrobat when  print as image was selected there was a slight improvement in the print quality.
Any help would greatly be appreciated.
