SignalExpress with DSA70404B oscilloscope

Hello,
I am very new to LabVIEW and SignalExpress and I have a few basic questions.
I want to log data from my DSA70404B oscilloscope through my PC (Windows 7 running on it) in order to calculate certain time intervals.
I don't have the GPIB or USB cables and so I am using an ethernet cross cable between the scope and the computer with manual ip settings.
Is it possible to view the scope waveforms on SignalExpress and carry out data recording using such an ethernet connection? My scope wasn't listed on the devices list when I opened SignalExpress. Is there any additional steps that I need to take in order to achieve communication between the oscilloscope and my computer?

Thanks for your reply.
I did try creating a plugin. I still get an error that the vi might be broken inside SignalExpress.
In LabVIEW, I cannot successfully run the vi because of the VISA resources error I get (which I have posted in another board, attaching the screen capture again here)
I have no clue how to resolve this. Could you please throw some light on this? It would really be of great help to me.

Hi pockey,
Yes, those two instruments should work with Signal Express. If an instrument has an IVI driver, then integration into Signal Express should be simple. The IVI driver for the E4438C can be found here, and the IVI driver for the E4448A can be found here. As for a list, there is not one, but if an instrument has an IVI driver, then it's usually compatible. If not, you can use VISA and program a User Defined Step in Signal Express. ESS with ERP2005 (without a Portal)

Hi,
in the moment we are using ESS with SAP Enterprise (4.7).
Now we are planning the Upgrade to ERP2005.
We have several customers who has outsourced their HR Processes to us. We maintain their ESS on our SAP Servers.
If we change to ERP2005 the problem is, that our customers have their own Portal which is often no SAP portal. The Portal is a very strategic IT part of our customers, so we have no access to the Portal. On the other hand our customers has no HR know-how to maintain the ESS om their own.
We heard about the internal ESS. May be this could be the solution in our situation. Where can we get more information about the internal ESS. Who has tested this software already.

Hi,
the internal ESS is nothing else than an EP 7.0 "in disguise". It is a regular java stack, portal 7.0 and the BP for ESS and MSS just in one install on the same machine than HCM.
It is of no difference if you are using a regular external Portal Scenario or an internal ESS.
Generally speaking, SAP will push the Portal. It is now more or less mandatory for ESS/MSS and BW - SRM will follow with the next release. Web Dynpro will be essential part of the GUI-Strategy and WD without portal makes not a lot of sense.
So, customers with a different portal will need to pursuit a "Dual Portal" strategy in future, because there will be no WD integration int other portals. SAP stated very clearly in internal discussions that customers with a different portal strategy will have serious integration problems.
What I recommend is using EP for integration of SAP and use KM with federated portals for "syndication", i.e. for content integration of other portals.
When you are a provider of services, that would be a good point to start as a service offering

Service on ESS with display option

Hi,
We use ESS with EP.
The service PZ03 & PZ28 for Bank information and Previous employer details respectively, when attached, provide change option to the employee.
I have a requirement wherein i want them only in a display mode. Is there anyway that any other Tcode may be assigned ot the role so that it may be given only in display.
Pl. confirm if EP has an option of display alone.
Pl. suggest.

Your response to my first question is helpful. The rest of them, though relevant, will be used by me at a later stage by me.
The rest thrree of my questions were concerning the SPRO settings under the Menu in IMG > Employee self service & Employee self service (ITS). I would like to know how those settings are relevant to ECC 5.0.
According to my research, ESS (ITS) are for versions before ECC 5.0. We currently use ECC 5.0 with EP 6.0. Despite ECC 5.0, services have been used for the portal in our base implementation. Iam currently doing a rollout project and unable to understand the difference between the ESS & ESS (ITS) menu in IMG. These two nodes have some common serive settings (ex. personal info, Leave request , etc. ). Hence would liek to know if settings in one of these would over wriete the settings in the other.
Hope i have been more clear in my question this time. I paraphrase the last 3 questions of my previous query:
1. If the services (eg. PZ01, etc) are used in ITS version in our current system, what is the relevance to the settings in the ESS node in IMG as compared to those in ESS(ITS)?
2. There are some nodes in ESS and ESS ITS that are common. Do the settings in one of these overwrite the other? (Ex: Personal information,Leave request, etc.)
3. Can i copy the standard services liek PZ03 into the Z domain on T code SDH0 and give only display option to the employee on the portal?
Also would like to know if there is anything technical i need to read up on (any technical prerequisites) if iam interested in learning / working on ESS & MSS in depth. I come from an non-technical background and an MBA in HR.

Is SSO Mandatory for ESS with ECC5.0?

Is single sign on MAndatory for implementing ESS with SP16 ECC5.0 and mysap ERP2004 package . Becuase am not finding any options to map users for systems?

HI Sameer,
SSO is mandatory for ESS to enable the backend connection for the logged on user only.
For JCO destination type metadata,a generic user maybe be used by providing the userid and password.But for the JCo destination type Application,we have to enable SSO, so that user specific data may be retrieved.
For SSO, the method used is SAP Logon tickets and the same method would be used for user managemnt for the systems created in EP.
Achim, have you tried using User mapping for ESS?
I tried by setting User Management for JCo Destination Type Application ,to User Mapping and did the user mapping in EP for the systems,but i got the error "RFC_ERROR_LOGON_FAILURE"-system is unable to interpret the SSO ticket received.
So,i thought the only option is using SAP Logon tickets for this scenario.
In the SAP help also,it is mentioned to set up SSO using SAP Logon tickets, not using User Mapping.

ESS with out EP

Dear Experts,
We are working on ECC 6.0. My client is asking us to implement ESS with out EP. Is it possible ??? they are asking us to use some general portals like (Internet explorer, netscape navigator,etc).

First of all, try to deploy the ESS/MSS Business packages using sdm/JSPM.
Without the Business package, you will not be able to avail the ESS/MSS services.
And said by Andy, it is hard to develop custom application by your own......
So its better to start with the deployment of Business package, start configuring the things and customize the ESS/MSS application as per your customer environment and landscape.

It is better if you have a functional consultant (HCM/HR) and a Technical consultant - Portal. A good combination of these two would be definetely results in successfull Implementations.

Hi Experts,
I have a requirement to configure ESS/MSS in R/3 . fisrt time am going to configure the ESS/MSS in R/3 with EHP7.currently we are using
ECC6.0 EHP7 with SP 2 and portal 7.4 can any one help me out which business functions need to be activate and which components need to activate.
How to configure the service in launch pad with WDA.please guide me the step by step procedure.

ESS with Internal ITS

We are using ESS 50.4 on ECC6 with internal ITS. It is working well except for a mouseover message when the user places the mouse over a pushbutton in the applications for Address, Personal Information, Bank Information, and Family/Related persons.
The mouseover message says 'Pushbutton deactivated' even though the pushbutton has not been deactivated.
Can this be fixed via the portal or through ICF or in SE80?

Those parameters look about right for the WEBGUI service, but not so much for the ESS services you mentioned.
I just had a look at one of the few remaining ITS based ESS services we still use (PZ03 Bank) and the parameters we have set in SE80 and SICF look like this:

~LOGIN
~PASSWORD

The mouseover messages seem to work fine for us with those parameters, maybe try setting one of yours the same way and see if that helps.

Using ESS with Portal 7.0 and backend ECC 5.0. Why not?

I have this landscape:
server A: Portal 7.0 in WAS 7.0 (2004s) with BP ESS and XSS components
server B: backend ECC 5.0 with EA-HR SP38.
But I am having problems to run some ESS webdynpro iViews (specially personnel info);
According this note: 1007341; this landscape is not supported because is necessary use a separate instance of WAS 6.40 in order to run XSS components.
Why??? Which is the technical reason that I cannot use the j2ee stack from EP 7.0? SAP information about this is so confusing.
if this is impossible to realize, I can use this alternative?:

As per note 1007341, I need use a third server or I am confusing?. Already having a server which runs E¨P frontend, and other server where it runs the ECC, technically I am not understanding why I need a third server with a older java version than I have in frontend.
This is not supported by a specifically problem? Or can I do if I have a problem and I can fix it with some patch?
Anybody has experiencie using this scheme: Portal 7.0 agains ECC 5.0 for use BP ESS/MSS?

Ok, its true.
My intention is to confirm if is possible install a Java instance in the same server that ECC is running with Abap instance.
My confusion is because note 1007341, in "deviations" part, says:
ECC 5.0 (ERP 2004 back-end system),
XSS 500 on a separate J2EE 6.40, EP NW04s
with business packages ESS and MSS (SAP ERP 2004).
The SAP system only supports this system landscape
if you have installed XSS 500 on a separate J2EE 6.40.
Then, would I install abap stack, and java stack as separate instances (not add-in!) ? and this landscape is supported acordding this note?
(in the example, A and C are in the same server)

ESS with SAP ERP 2004 ECC 5.0

Hello,
with SAP R/3 we used the Employee Self Services via an external ITS. Now we are using SAP ERP 2004 ECC 5.0 with an installed Java AddIn without Enterprise Portal.
My Question is:
What ways are possible, so that we can use the ESS functionality?
My Ideas are:
1. Use the old external ITS and connect it to the new system.
Problem: Is the connection possible?
or
2. Use the existing services from the internal ITS.
Problem: It seems that some are not working - is it possible to activate them?
or
3. Use the WebDynpro-Technology without Enterprise Portal.
Problem: Will it work?
All information I could find, is, that none of the mentioned ways will work, but maybe someone tried to do the same and was successful.

Hello Andre,
I don't have experience with using ESS web dynpro applications standalone without EP but I believe that should work just fine. We use standalone web dynpro applications for our mobile ISR/PCR approvals where we access web dynpro application directly via Blackberry. You should be able to access any web dynpro application directly without EP iView - for certain services you will need to provide the correct attributes and values via URL though.

Travel for ESS with WD ABAP

I am implementing Travel for ESS. We implement the business function FIN_TRAVEL_1 for work with Webdynpro ABAP.
We are implementing ESS for a country not deliverd by SAP.
We copy the folder of ESS/MSS, for modify the role of Employee Self-Service and add more iview/page/ to this role customer.
I have two doubts:
1) Have that change the PCD in the SPRO for each resource?
2.) I am in process of designing the ESS Homepage framework for Travel and Expenses.We are onto ECC6.0 with Enh Pack4.
In SPRO, we have got new resource links which are for Webdynpro ABAP.
For Example for resource EMPLOYEE_TRAVEL_ALLMYTRIPS_SRV_12,the properties are

Link Personnal Data from ESS with Employee Search from MSS

Hi all,
I would like to know if it is possible to create an iVew with on the top the "employee search engine" and on the bottom the "Personnal Data" from ESS package ?
Why that ? With the standard of MSS, I can change the personnal data from a specific employee through :
Team->General Information -> Related Links (Identity) and then I got a Popup with the ability to modify the personnal data.
I would like the same but in one iView and one click.
Is it possible ?

When you select/click on an employee in the Employee search iview, an event is raised which is subscribed in all the iviews below the employee search in that page. This is how the update happens in the other iviews.
If you would like to put Employee Search iview at the top and personal data (From ESS) at the bottom, you will need to make changes in the personal data application of ESS and subscribe the event raised by the Employee Search.
Basically you can integrate any custom iview with the employee search iview.

New Window of ESS with Exit button

Hi All,
For all applications in ESS, I am facing astrange issue. I will explain it taking one scenario. I go to the page where I can change the personal data under service Personal Information. Here there is an 'Exit' button. If i click on that, a new Overview page ESS window opens up instead of exiting. This happens with all the services, bet it Leave Request or any.
How can this be stopped?

This is to do with workprotect mode settings.

Also note that
this 'exit' button has been determined not to
work if the application is running in pop-up window. 'Close' button of
popped up browser window can be used to close that window.

Is there a way to use the Web Dynpro based ESS (and not ITS) with R/3 4/7 Enterprise? If yes, then which BP version should be used with the Portal. Portal version is 7.0.

I'd have to agree with Stuart, there are really very few cases where it would be worth doing this ALE set up - the only one that I can think of is you have many other functions - finance, logistics, etc on your existing 4.7 R/3 system and they are so heavily customised that moving to ECC6 is not an option for them in the short term and you have some very influential person who insists that you must go to a new ESS immediately....
Even then I'd be telling them to hold off and upgrade the whole lot at once.
Another alternative if you really like the look of Web Dynpro - is to develop your own ESS services (don't try to backport the standard ones it would be an immense effort for little gain) in your portal and just have them connect to your 4.7 system - that's doable.
Given that the whole look and feel of ESS is about to be given a shake up with the move from WD Java to WD ABAP - I'd not be even attempting to copy the WD Java ESS.
Bide your time and go for the upgrade...
