Signature field failed in Reader 8

I have created a form in LiveCycle Designer 8 and I have used the Digital Signature feature, but when the end user opens it up in Reader 8 they are unable to sign the document. I have read that i must enable signature in Acrobat. Could somebody describe where i can do this and which steps I need?
Thanxx!

Can you post screen shots of the signature status from Reader 8 and Reader 9 so I can have a clear understanding of what you are experiencing?
Thanks
Steve

  • How to make signature field work for reader users? Security settings change when doc is extended???

I've been struggling to correct a problem all week and am at my wits end. Customer service was no help as the person I spoke with could barely speak english let alone understand the problem as I explained it to him. Hoping someone here can provide some insight, here's the issue:
I'm using a Windows 7 Professional OS. I created a Microsoft Word doc and used Adobe Acrobat XI Standard to create a form from it. It automatically detected the fields, which includes a signature field. I went through fixed it all up how it needed to be and did "save as other - reader extended pdf - enable forms fill in & save in reader".
The document is a report that will be sent to a small number of people that have to fill it out, digitally sign and return and I'm assuming that most if not all of them will open the document using the free Adobe Reader. So I thought extending it is what I needed to do to make sure they could fill it out, save it to their computer if need be, and also sign digitally. The signature field was automatically added in by acrobat for me and I did not change the properties of it at all except to add a border.
When I open the form in Reader (also XI) I can fill out all the fields, save it... but not sign it. The security settings say signing is not allowed even though I went back to the original pdf form and the security settings on it say allowed for everything. I don't know how to fix this... please help!!!
I've attached some screen shots but can include more if needed...

I don't have the Enable More Tools option under Reader Extended PDF. I just tried to download the XI Pro trial version and it won't complete installation because of the standard version I already have. Any advice or workarounds you know of? Going to the boss for $$ to upgrade to Pro is what I'll consider my last resort if the issue is truly that I have to use Pro to enable more tools for reader.... I appreciate your reply though. I sat here all day yesterday fingers crossed that SOMEONE would give it a go!

  • Can't sign signature fields in Adobe Reader XI

Using Adobe Acrobat X (not the Pro edition!) Dutch (NL) Language Edition  I created a document with two signature fields. Afterwards I tried to save as "Reader Extended". (The only option I found under "Save As" that looked similar to this command in my Dutch language version was "Uitgebreide PDF Reader" (this means "Extended PDF Reader") and then "Formulieren inschakelen en opslaan in Adobe Acrobat".  This last option means literally "Enable forms and save in Adobe Acrobat".)
When I opened the document in Adobe Reader XI (Dutch version again), the two signature fields are clearly visable, but do nothing when I click on them.
I've Googled extensively and also read the other topics on this FAQ which deal with similar problems, but to no avail... Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?
    Regards,
    KVD

After doing more testing, the Page Open event works in Reader but is very slow updating the result page that has the code and uses the Page Open event.
In Acrobat happens instantly, but in Reader takes a loooong time, sometimes seems that doesn't even update, as it takes forever. Wonder if my Reader's settings are screwed up?
Basically you have two pages, page one with a 4-choice radio button and, page two with a text field to report the value of the selected button choice.
Page two has the following code as Page Opens:
         var buttonV = this.getField("Group1").value;
         getField("Text1").value = buttonV;

  • Reader XI, sign a existing signature field

I´m trying to sign a PDF file that have digital signature field.
In Reader 10 when i click in the Sign button, the signature is placed in the signature field that is enabled (visible or invisible field).
In Reader 11 is possible to do this? What i have seen is that i have to double click the field to open the Sign Document dialog box.

    Thank you for your response.
I have read the documentation, twice. I am starting to think the documenation was created as a joke. A cruel, cruel joke.
The documenation does not provide a clear enough picture on how to use the JSO bridge, or the setFocus, for that matter, within VBA.
When I try and do jso.getField("fieldname").setFocus() within the VBA script it stops at the line and gives error "Operation Failed"

  • Can't  sign signature field after unlocking

We have encountered the following senerio(both in Reader and Professional 8.1 and above), even with all appropriate rights and privages applied the document.
Given a simple document with 2 fields, one a digital signature field and one a simple text field.
On initial form open the digital signature field is set read-only. After the user enteres any data into the text field, the digital signature field is set to open for signing.
With Reader/Professional 8.0 and previous, the user gets the digital signature wizard when they click on the signature field and is able to sign the document
With Reader/Professional 8.1.x the user is able to click into the digital signature field (mouse changes to the finger/field indicator shows blue) but the wizard does not appear. The user cannot sign the document until it is saved, closed and then re-opened.
    code is as follows
    text field name: text1
    digital signature field name: sig1
    text1 exit event: if (!this.isNull && this.rawValue != null) sig1.access = "open";
Does anyone know how to fix/work around this problem?

What you're describing is what happens when the form has not been Reader-enabled, or the extended features are no longer valid. It's hard to say what's wrong without seeing the same document that she's using. It's also possible that even though she says she has the latest version of Reader, that she's actually using something else to view the PDF, such as Preview on the Mac, the built-in PDF viewer with Firefox or Chrome, or something else.

  • How Can I stop signature fields disappearing on my IPAD Adobe Reader 11

Hi, I am using trial version of Adobe Acrobat XI pro. I have converted a Word document to PDF. I have added text fields, Java scripts to automatically add Todays date as default, Form Reset buttons and Signature fields. File is saved as standard save. All of the above is done in Windows 7 environment. On same computer, In Adobe Reader signature fields are visible although I do not have the means to test it. When the same  File is emailed and opened on an IPAD using Adobe Reader 11.2, the signature fields are missing. I intend to have my users access the file (and 30 others like this)  on an IPAD. Can someone advise how to resolve the missing signature field issue. It appears that Adobe do not help with such issues as it is not considered an installation issue.

Digital signatures are not supported on mobile versions of Adobe Reader. Other PDF viewers like Readdle's PDF Expert treat them like e-signature fields, allowing the user to draw/apply their drawn signature, but this is not the same as a digital signature. Adobe Reader for iOS allows you to add an e-signature, but it doesn't use digital signature fields for this feature. Instead, you tap the screen, choose the annotations icon, and then the signature icon.

  • How do I resolve: Field Selection dialog [Pick... button] in "Mark as read-only" section of Signed tab for Digital Signature field is not working

I am using Acrobat Pro X on Windows 7 Enterprise x64 to create a form. When I have a simple form with a few fields, I am able to use the "Pick..." button to select the fields I want to select, but in a more complex form (20 fields with 3 Signature fields) The Field Selection dialog does not work. I can make the selections, but they are not saved. Removing fields does not resolve issue. IF I start with a blank form and add a few fields, the dialog will work, but after adding more, it quits working. Reader XI is also installed.

And that is why many responders use only the custom JavaScript calculation option.
The UI for the select fields and simplified field nations are only a way to pass field names to a JavaScript function that performs the actual calculation. Sometimes these functions call other functions and pass the parameters can lead to errors in the attempted code.
I would start to learn code JavaScript for Acrobat.
The pick field dialog is for performing calculations involving sums, products, averages, minimum, and maximum. I am not sure how that would work with a digital signature. Once a signature is applied the form fields could be locked.

  • Reader can't sign pdf signature field

I have a problem with digital signatures in Adobe Reader.  I have Adobe Acrobat 9.  I am including a form with multiple signature fields in a pdf portfolio.  This portfolio is circulated to collect signatures from users in different departments, some have Acrobat and some have Reader only.  I make sure that features have been extended for Reader. Most of the time they are okay.  But every once in a while (at least once or twice per week) I get a user telling me they can't sign.  No message or error of any kind, just a quick blink but no signature.  As a work-around I've had to save a copy and re-extend features.  This can be time consuming when there are a few documents I need to circulate.  Please help.

    Beto,
Just make sure that you application server's clock and the User's machine's  clock are properly synchronized.
Clock synchronization problem might also cause this issue. [Your network administrator caould resolve this time synchronization issue]

  • Acro Reader hallucinates signature fields

I have a PDF just prepared with Acrobat 9 Pro Extended that should have no signature fields in it, and indeed going to Add or Edit Signature fields tells me I have none. Nor does Acro Reader 11.0.0 on my main 64-bit Win 7 computer see any. However, Acro Reader 11.0.3 on my other 64-bit Win 7 PC opens the PDF with a big green bar at the top claiming "Signature Fields detected". Does anyone have an idea what might be wrong and how to correct it.
    Thanks for your help.

Adobe think it's a real neat idea to see a file might need signing and tell the user. The clever idea they had was to see if the word "sign" appears in the file. I hope you'll think this is as neat as the programmers at Adobe, but I have my doubts.

  • When filling a Digital Signature field from a mobile app, signature does not show  Reader or Acrobat

    Scenario :
    1. Receiving a pdf form with digital siganture field.
    2. Signing form using various pdf apps. " PDF EXPERT for iPad/iPhone"
    3. After signing and emailing the document, opening in reader or Acrobat, the signature does not display but the field is gone, as if it was signed.
    * Is reader /acrobat requiring a validation that it is not receiving to show the signature?
Did verify that the signature shows in Chrome, using chromes default pdf viewer.

New Feature came in the last update.
Here is the reference material to disable it:

  • I am unable to sign Adobe Reader 9 signature fields.

    Hi,
I received a PDF  that I need to sign digitally. However, when I try to sign the signature field, nothing happens. Specifically, when I click the field with my mouse, nothing happens.
    In more detail:
    1. I move my mouse over the field, and a dialog box appears saying "Unsigned signature field (Click to sign)".
    2. I click the field, but nothing happens.
    3. When I go to Document --> Sign --> and I view the options, all the options (such as "Sign Document" or "Apply Ink Signature") are grayed out. I have included an image to illustrate what I am saying.
It should be noted that I initially tried to do this with Adobe Reader 11. After that didn't work, I re-installed Adobe Reader 11 and tried again, but it still didn't work. Then I switched to Adobe Reader 9, and it doesn't work. Any thoughts on what's going on here?

In my quest to find out what's wrong, I also discovered that when I try to save any changes, a box appears saying: "Data typed into this form will not be saved. Adobe Reader can only save a blank copy of this form." Might the two issues be related?

  • Can a signature field created by Acrobat V7 be signed in Reader V9? How?

PDF's with signature fields created within Acrobat version 7 when opened in Reader version 9 do not have signing enabled.  Is it possible to enable Reader signing in Acrobat?

In order for Reader to be able to sign a digital signature field, the document has to have the corresponding usage right applied. Acrobat 7 is not able to apply this usage right. The first version that could is Acrobat 8 Pro.

  • Reader and Signature Fields

I work for ConnDOT, we are progressively moving towards PDF for our Engineering Drawings. Can you offer some help or direction how to get the digital signature form field operational in Reader? I know how to create a field in Acrobat Pro, but the digital signature field does not work with reader, yet the Reader help instructions says it can. Would we need a third party digital id server to manage the digital id's or could we manage digital id's internally?

    Hi,
download this "enabled" sample document and navigate to the last page. The signature field there should work OK with Reader.

  • Adobe Acrobat Reader Signature Field not Accessible

I created a form using Adobe Acrobat Pro XI. It has a signature field. The security settings are off, and according to Pro, all abilities including adding a signature are allowed. When I open the document in Reader XI, I cannot sign it. The Sign tab is available, but all options in that tab are grayed out. I cannot double click on the field or click the signature icon. What settings am I missing?

    Hi,
    2 things:
    1. Assuming your script is original - it is not asking for a TXT file till it is found in expected location. You can choose between 2 solutions:
to remove FindChangeList.txt from FindChangeSupport folder ==> script will ask for another file
to override this file by your query ==> script will not ask but execute your query
    2. You can see greyed TXT files in Script Panel since this panel shows executable files (script's formats)
