Signature in preview won't drag in.

Any suggestions on dragging a signature from the signature box into a document in preview?  I can't get it to work.  Other functions such as add text work fine.  loading the signature works fine.  The signature highlights when clicked it just doesn't go into the document.  Any thought?

Sorry about the assumption  step by step:
I opened preview, opened the annotation bar opened clicked on the signature box, clicked "create signature from built in iSite camera" this  brought up a Signature Capture dialog box.  I confirmed that “Save this signature for use after Preview quits” is checked.  I took  out a piece of paper, and signed it.  I held the piece of paper up to the iSight Camera, and adjusted the position of the paper until the camera recognizes and displayed my signature. Clicked on the Accept button to save the signature.
Then I opened a pdf.  Again, I clicked on the signature bar under annotation,  my signature was present, I clicked that - it highlighted as I tried to drag it the signature box closed and the signature did not appear in the document.
I then restarted the preview, restarted the computer and checked for updates - none of which had the desired effect.  I am able to add text to the document such as the date.
Any suggestions?

  • Preview won't save a new signature

I successfully use my own digital signature on preview documents, but when I have tried to add my husbands via "manage signatures" or even directly from "Create signature from Facetime HD Camera", it shows his signature as we hold it up, but when we click 'accept' it disappears and isn't available on the signature drop down.  I can't seem to get it to save and it's so frustrating!
Has anyone else had this problem and was there a reason being overlooked?

Information by some who got it to work.

In another discussion, some people solved it by taking a picture of the signature in Photo Booth and then trying again in Preview.

  • Preview won't capture signature

When I go to add a signature in Preview, I hold the signature up to the camera and nothing happens. I've seen videos of people doing the same thing and Preview instantaneously shows a preview of their signature. I do not have the same luck. Pressing Accept just closes the window and doesn't add a signature. I'm unsure what to do now, as I need to add a signature to a PDF document and would rather not take a picture of the screenshot and paste it into the original Word document.

I had the same problem, quit Preview multiple times, but finally got it to work via blind luck. I arranged a bright light above and behind the computer, but even that wouldn't work until I took my paper with sig and sort of angled it toward the light (no longer parallel to the computer) until my preview appeared, then I could move the paper back to parallel and click Accept. The eye hand coordination for this was a bit challanging, so doubt I could accomplish this with even a mild blood alchohol %, so please do try my fix only when sober.
Alas, just another item in the long list of bugs and Apple slipping on quality control. There was a time when Apple meant it just works (and I have been using Macs since the early 90s), but now Apple is the new Microsoft in my life. Constant annoyances and headaches. Surely Apple can pay the best of the best. The loser who signed off on this should be fired because he/she failed.
Sorry Apple, but if you are going to take us all to the cleaners and lock out all competition and innovation, can you at least make stuff that works again?

  • Preview won't open PICTs

Preview will no longer open PICT files. This is since I dragged three of them simultaneously on to Preview's icon which resulted in one of them opening, but not the others. Now I can't open any, either by dragging and dropping or through File>Open, where PICTs appear greyed-out. I'm baffled. Any ideas?

I have tried all of the above, to no avail. I suspect the problem lies in the program (Graphite) that is generating the PICTs as I have been able to replicate the problem on another PB. Preview opened one PICT and then wouldn't recognize any subsequent ones from this same source (Graphite). I have not tried opening PICTs from other sources. I will reinstall Graphite at some point, but for now, Photoshop will open the files that Preview won't.
Thank you both for your suggestions. They have been very informative.
ps I've just determined that Preview works correctly with files created before I first had the problem, but not with ones created since, which suggests a newfound animosity between it and Graphite. I will see if a Graphite reinstall puts them back on speaking terms.

  • PDF files created in Preview won't open in Adobe Reader

I consider Preview to be a swiss army knife when it comes to working with PDF and graphic files. Lately (since the last OS update?) PDF files created in Preview won't open in Adobe Reader. Reader either crashes or just becomes unresponsive. I've been able to open the files in older versions of Adobe Professional but Reader 8 or 9 can't open the files. Anyone else experiencing these problems?

Yes. We noticed this problem after upgrading to 10.6.7. When we made a PDF from Word 2011 or even Text Edit through Adobe's "Save as Adobe PDF" it would hang. When we made a PDF using Apple's "Save as PDF" it would lock up Acrobat Pro 9 and also Acrobat Pro X. NOTE that this only happened using Adobe OTF fonts.
I posted this problem on Adobe's forum and received a message from admin there that this was caused by a change in font handling with Apple's 10.6.7 update.
As of yet, no solution has been posted. I also received a message from Adobe's Tech Support that it was forwarded to their engineers.
    Still waiting.

  • I can't seem to get rid of OR use Adobe Reader after I let it into Safari 7.  How do I get to the point where Reader is not my preferred anything, but can still be used if Preview won't open something?

I can't seem to get rid of OR use Adobe Reader after I let it into Safari 7.  How do I get to the point where Reader is not my preferred anything, but can still be used if Preview won't open something?

Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print or save PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to do so by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar should appear under the cursor. Click the printer or disk icon.
    Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
    Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
    and check the box marked
              Allow Plug-ins
    Then click
              Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
    Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
    Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others—I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
    Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.

  • Show digital signatures in Preview

    Hello
It wasn't possible to show digital signatures in Preview in a PDF document.
It's there a way to do this, or I've to install Acrobat Reader?
ATM. I don't have a printer at home, so i don't know if its only not visible in the Preview, or it will also not be printable.
    Has somebody an idea?
    Best Regards

Unfortunately, if you're using acrobat pro to sign documents, you must inform the recipient to use Acrobat Reader, themselves. This is because of Adobe's CDS system.

  • I'm trying to reverb an audio clip in my timeline and I can't find the effect tab in the browser to drag to my audio clip to reverb. I can reverb the clip in the viewer but can't it won't drag to the timeline. I'm using FCE

I'm trying to reverb an audio clip in my timeline and I can't find the effect tab in the browser to drag to my audio clip to reverb. I can reverb the clip in the viewer but it won't drag to the timeline. I'm using FCE

You cannot drag the effects themselves to the timeline.  You add them to a clip in the Viewer, just as you have done.
If the clip was already in the timeline when you  opened it in the Viewer (by double-clicking it in the timeline to open it in the Viewer) and then added the reverb effect, there is nothing further to do, you have added the effect to the clip.  You don't drag it back to the timeline.
You only have to drag the clip to the timeline if the clip was not already in the timeline (for example, if you opened the clip from the FCE Browser; or set different In and Out points in a master clip to use a different portion of the master clip in a different location in your timeline).
Depending on the effect you add, you may have to render the timeline after adding the effect.  But I don't think reverb requires immediate rendering.  One other note, you said you were working with an audio clip ... audio clips need to be AIFF (not MP3 or something else) and preferably 16-bit stereo.

  • Preview won't print

Preview won't print most PDF files that I've created using the 'Save as PDF' in the print dialog window. It just spits out blank pages. If I select 'Preview' it show the document correctly but telling it to Print just produces a lot of blank pages.
This also happens to many PDF files that I've downloaded and were not created on my machine.
Any ideas what the problem is?
    Thanks in advance

Sounds like a driver issue. Has this ever worked or is this the first time you've tried? I'd test in a new user to be sure it isn't a corrupt Preview preference (which you could isolate in ~/Library/Preferences/). If the same thing happens in a new user, I'd say it's the printer settings. Try resetting the printer system via Printer Setup Utility and then go back to Sys Prefs > Print & Fax to add your printer. You could need to re-install the driver as well if that doesn't resolve. Good luck!

  • Preview won't open.  It will open when in test mode but not in my user mode.\

I'm running Yosemite 10.10.2.  My Preview won't open.  I followed Linc's advice and removed many files but Preview still won't open.  I have tried cold booting to no avail.

I just figured out how to open Preview...... Open Finder>Documents>click on any PDF or JPEG.  Preview opens.  Now, if I could only get it to open from the Dock.

  • I cant' print using firefox. print preview won't display, won't print, printing dialog box won't display, etc

Seems like since I updated to firefox 5 I can't print web pages, print preview won't work. I click on the print option under file and nothing displays or prints.

Try the Firefox SafeMode and see if you can initiate printing from within Firefox. <br />
    ''A troubleshooting mode, which disables most Add-ons.'' <br />
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default Theme.)''
    # You can open the Firefox 4/5/6/7 SafeMode by holding the '''Shft''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    # Or use the Help menu item, click on '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' while Firefox is running. <br />
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shft key) to open it again.''
If it is good in the Firefox SafeMode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. <br />

  • Imac won't drag and drop

I have a new iMac w/Mountain Lion and it won't drag and drop. I can't move folders or move files into folders. Any ideas?

Please restart the computer and re-try. Also, going forward please provide a more descriptive paragraph of exactly what steps you have taken.
With ANY new Mac you have 90 days of free AppleCare telephone support. I'd STRONGLY recommend you use it and if you have not already bought AppleCare I'd recommend getting it.
Finally please update your profile to show which iMac you have and which version of OS X is installed. This make helping MUCH MUCH easier for the volunteers that man this forum.  You can find instructions for updating your profile at

Rather than dragging and dropping, try this.
In the computer you're moving music to, select the home shared library you're moving music from, as per the following screenshot:
Select the songs you want to transfer. Now click the "Import" button down in the the bottom-right-hand corner of the screen, as per the following screenshot:
