Signature jpeg unreadable

I use a jpeg of my business logo as my signature, but some recipients write back that they can't open the attachment -- which is just the signature. I just found out that it screws up the entire message and makes it a MIME file.
This has only happened with a couple of recipients that I know of, but it's annoying. I believe they are using PCs (the poor saps), but I would like to avoid anything on my end that exacerbates the problem.
Thanx for any input!

More than likely, the recipients with the problem are Windows Outlook users and if so, Outlook is known to have problems with Mail's RTF especially when incorporating such a signature.
Since the signature is an attachment and if you are using RTF for message composition, try using Plain Text instead. If everyone used Plain Text for message composition, the majority if not all problems experienced with sending and receiving electronic mail would be eliminated.

  • Apple Mail Signatures send as attachments!

    Hello
I have searched all over the place about this problem and not come across a solution.  I know there are lots of discussions on here about it but nothing helps.
I have a signature in Mail which consists of some text and an object (.jpeg file).
When sending emails with just text to people using Windows email programs ie Outlook, the message and signature comes out fine.
If I add an attachment say a word file or pdf, the Signature .jpeg turns into an attachment, so then the recipient has 2 attachments on the email and my signature does not appear correctly.
Like I said, I have searched for hours trying to find a solution, and was wondering if anyone or Apple has managed to resolve this yet and I just haven't found it.
    YOUR HELP IS NEEDED!!!
    Thanks

Anything in an email message that is not text must be sent as an attachment. That is not an Apple issue, it is tha way email works. Some email programs, including Mail, will recognize certain attachment types and display them in the message. The recipient might not even notice that the file was sent as an attachment. Other email programs do not do that, and an attachment will always appear as an attachment. If you include non-text in your signature, then some recipients will not see it the way you visualize it. There is nothing you (or Apple) can do about that.

  • Need To Open An Encrypted PDF File That I Created.  No Password.

I have Acrobat 8.  I created a document and then tried to put security on it.  Now I cannot even open the document.  It gives me the message:  "You do not have access rights to the encrypted document."  I never entered a password or anything.  I need to get this document reopened.  Also, I pasted some JPEG signatures into the document.  My reason for security measures was to make sure nobody could edit the document and right click and save as the signature JPEG.  First thing first- getting the document opened.  Then let me know how to just make it so that someone can only read and print the document and not be able to edit any typewriter insertions.  PLEASE HELP!!!!

    Hi Dom,
Let's start with Certificate Security is not the same as Password Security. If you had encrypted the PDF file using Password Security, then whatever password you used to lock the document you would use to unlock the document. It's pretty straight forward, and in the cryptography world it would be know as symmetrical security in that you use the same key (password) to lock and unlock the file. Think of it as using a key to lock your front door to your house when you leave and the exact same key to unlock the door when you return, that's what symmetrical security is.
Certificate security is a totally different beast. Certificate Security uses asymmetrical encryption meaning there are two different keys involved, a public key and its corresponding private key. When these keys are generated there is a voodoo that goes on that gives these two keys a symbiotic relationship in that (and this is the basic tenet of asymmetrical encryption) what one key locks only its corresponding other key can unlock. Either key can lock (really encrypt) something and only its corresponding other key can unlock (decrypt) it once it's been locked. Of these two seemingly magical keys one is designated as a private key that only the key owner has access to, and the other is designated as a public key that the whole world has access to. If you lock something with your private key then only its corresponding public key can unlock it, and yes that means that not even the private key can unlock it. You can also lock something using the public key in which case only the corresponding private key can successfully unlock it.
When you encrypt (think of that as "lock") a PDF file using Certificate Security you are encrypting the file using one or more public keys. That is, you encrypt the file for a list of recipients where each recipient has provided you with their public key and they in turn will decrypt the document using their private key. The number of recipients is theoretically limitless, but practically there is a limit in that each recipient you include will cause the file size to grow a little and at some point you'd make the file size too large for the computer to handle, but for the sake of our discussion think unlimited number of recipients. When you encrypted the file you were asked to select a recipient. If you don't also select yourself as a recipient then you end up locking yourself out of the file, and that's exactly what happened in your case. I see from above that you are using version 8, but I believe it was version 9 where we added the warning to make sure to add yourself as a recipient so as to not lock yourself out of the file (I can't remember if it was version 8 or 9, but since you didn't mention that warning I'll assume that we didn't add the warning until 9).
Unless you added yourself at the time you encrypted the file there is no going back to add yourself later because if you can't open the file you can't edit the file. You are locked out forever. You could ask the person that you included as a recipient to see if they can open the file and remove security, but you would have had to make them a document owner when you encrypted the file. If you restricted their editing capabilities then they won't be able to remove security, but at least you could see the contents of the file.
I know this has all been a bit geeky, and I haven't gone into how to procure a public/private key pair, but I don't want to dump too much data on you in one post. If you need more information let me know and I'll be glad to provide it.

  • Noob question about printing images

I have a scanned signature that I wish to insert into an indesign document and print.
I scanned the signature and have inserted it as a jpeg and it looks fine on the screen, but it looks very jaggy when printed. Can anyone tell me how to make the signature look better?
P.S. When I print the signature jpeg directly from photoshop it looks good.
Thanks in advance for any help.

  • Reverting back to Leopard from Snow Leopard.

I am very disappointed, upset and tired of finding problems with Snow Leopard after installing it on my Mac Pro Quad Xeon and will NOT install it on my 17" MacBook Pro. These are just some of the things screwed up since updating to Snow Leopard:
ADDRESS BOOK - lost phone numbers.
MAIL - Signatures have changed fonts. Copy and paste doesn't work in Signatures. Unread messages are not displayed in bold as checked. Changed shortcut to delete items in Trash.
FINDER - ScreenGrabs show drop-shadows of dialog boxes as black.
iCAL- can't edit title of events!
SYSTEM PREFERENCES - Security doesn't Load and crashes when I click on it a second time.
CALCULATOR 4.2 - Does not work!!!!! Says that version in incompatible!! WHY DIDN'T IT GET UPDATED!!!!
PRINTING - Can not print anything.
Can I revert back to Mac OS X 10.5, plain ole regular Leopard?

You cannot an install any system earlier than the system your Mac shipped with. If that was 10.6, fine.
But the problem isn't SL millions are using it with no issues at all. In other words, your problems are not SL related.
What often happens is there is some minor corruption that goes unnoticed until an upgrade and the upgrade exacerbates it.
Take the time to do some troubleshooting...
Create a new User go to System Preferences >> Accounts >> "+" (make it an admin acct) and test the apps in this new account, if they work the problem is isolated to your User and not systemwide.
If the issue is limited to your user account try starting up Safe Mode (It will take more time to startup in Safe Mode because it runs a directory check.)
If your apps functions correctly that way, go to System Preferences >> Accounts >> Login Items, and remove them. Boot normally and test. If not go to ~(yourHome)/Library/Contextual Menu Items and move whatever is there to the desktop. Then do the same with /Library/Contextual Menu Items. Lastly, try moving ~(yourHome)/Library/Fonts to your desktop and restarting.
Log out/in or restart, if that sorts it start putting items back one at a time until you find the culprit.
If the issue is systemwide then, you may be able to repair this with the The 10.6.2 Combo Update This is a fuller install, as opposed to an incremental "delta" update so it should overwrite any files that are damaged or missing. It does not matter if you have applied it before.
Remember to Verify Disk before update and repair permissions after update from /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.

jpeg is a lossy image compression. Try seeting the "quality" input to 100 (default is 80).
I would recommend to use PNG instead, it's a better format for this purpose. (jpeg is for photographs).

We are using Adobe XI Pro and we are unable to place a signature by "Use an Image" and browse to a .jpeg file and import that in. Is there a factory reset for the settings so that we can get that option back.  Seems like the "First time signing" never appears we even tried uninstalling the software and re-installing but still no luck, was wondering if anybody can provide some insight?

You cannot use a jpeg image for signing.  The written signature must be within a PDF document.  Get a blank sheet of white paper (the brighter the better), and write the signature anywhere on the page.  Scan and save the page as a PDF.  Now, when you click on Use an Image and select this PDF, you'll see the signature appear in the small preview box.  Adobe Acrobat will find the signature on the page and automatically crop it out.

  • Mysteriously unreadable Unix/JPEGs

I have scores of JPEGs that I removed from my late mother's 1st gen. iMac running OS 9.2.2. They were perfectly readable/viewable when they were on her machine, however now that I am trying to see them on my PPC G5/OS10.5.5 they have morphed into "Unix Executable FIles" that, when double-clicked, launch the app Terminal. A little window of gobbledy-gookcomes up and the only real info contained therein says: "cannot execute binary file." If I drag/drop the file onto the Photoshop icon I get a warning saying PS does not recognize the type of file.
The odd thing is that hey would appear to contain all the original data since most are in the over-1 meg file-size range.
Are these photos lost to me forever or is there some other app out there that can crack 'em open?

Take a look at the name: does it have an extension? Thus, when you do GetInfo on the file is its name "somepicture" or "somepicture.jpg"? If the files are missing the extension ".jpg" simply add the extension, you should then be able to view the pix.
