Signed in at two locations? is someone using my account?

Both my dad and me have the same error message about being signed in at two locations when we are not. We are also in different countries, signed in only once or indeed not at all.
I have googled this and see the error message is very old.
Any experiences out there?
The text is:
Your Screen Name ([email protected]) is now signed into AOL(R) Instant Messenger (TM) in 2 locations. To sign off the other location(s), reply to this message with the number 1. Click here for more information.
The more info link is this one:
http://info.aol.co.uk/aim/password/routing.htm
Just to be clear: we are NOT logged in twice by any means we are aware of.
I am wondering if it has anything to do with dot mac syncing as my username "goes online" to do that of course. Though I'm not sure how ichat comes to be loaded even then - again not knowingly by me. Of course dot mac (now me) is nothing to do with AOL screen names. As far as I know.
This is an old symptom.

aha. Now that's interesting. In my the case of me (not my dad), I do not have ethernet and wireless, but I do have multiple wireless networks (3) as well as multiple VPN's (2). So perfectly possible that as I switch between these iChat notices a change of interface. What I can't understand now, is how iChat is loaded in the first place.. checking prefs now... result: I cannot see a pref that says to load iChat at startup or indeed at any other time. Probably just can't see it for looking since this would explain how come iChat is loaded and I am surprised. I have no idea it is running until I see the "double logins/two locations" message.
My Dad. He has only one system - I'll check with him in case he is running ethernet AND wireless. He doesn't know the difference, so just plugs everything in and it works Quite possible his Wanadoo box is offering wired and wireless at the same time via dhcp.
If that is the case then I have only one question left: how is iChat loading up and that's going to be easy to answer (apart from me with my blinkers on just now).. so answers very welcome please.
Never ceases to surprise me where these threads lead. In this case it looks like "locations" == "network interfaces " - well, why don't they just say that ?

  • Someone use my account to download paid app

i received a mail notification from APPLE store for buying a paid app, but i am sure that i didn't purchase that app, then i cahnged my account password.
Today 5/12, i received invoices and this paid app total amount is US dollars $35.92 whcih order number is MGT63B1S7Z.
I had tried to enter my itune to check my app store, i found that my account location is in Thailand, but my actual location is in Taiwan. Then i found the invoice bill to " Taipei County, Kalasin 54485 THA", but it is should be " Taipei 115, Taiwan R.O.C". and i tried to change my location in app store in itune, but itune stopped working, then i closed whole itune window and re-open itune, but itune still can be not worked.
how do i do now? and how should i do for this charge $35.92 whcih app i never downloaded from store?

If I sign on to iTunes on her laptop using my account, will the app go to her machinge?
Yes, it will be added to her iTunes library on her laptop, not again to your iTUnes library on your machine.

  • Someone used my account to download stuff.  Who can I contact?

If someone used my account and I received a receipt for thing I didn't buy, what can I do?

First thing to do is change your password! Next call Apple, although I'm not sure what they can do about it as I think they may not be able to reverse your purchase. It might be something to take up with your bank. Also someone authroized your account on your computer. Have you sold a computer recently? What other computers have you downloaded iTunes products off of?

  • Signing On In Two Locations

Maybe this isn't the most appropriate place to ask this, but over the last few days I've gotten several iChat messages that tell me my screen name (my .Mac address) is now signed on at two AIM locations. It asks me to enter a "1" to log off at the other location. I do it and it says my other session has been logged off. I understand what this means, but it makes no sense since I'm not signed on anywhere else AFAIK. Does this mean someone else is signing on with my login and password? If so, how can I find out who and/or where this other log in is occurring? If not, what does it mean?
Also I don't know if this is related, but I just got a new MacPro last week, and although it didn't coincide with setting setting the new machine up, it started a few days later. My old machine is turned off, as is my laptop, and I don't use any other computer.

Being Dynamic with the ISP will not cause this.
It is about how you can create multiple Logins with one computer.
    1) Using your Screen name on someone else's computer.
    2) Checking iChat in a Test Account that has the iChat > Preferences > General Section item "When I Quit iChat, Set my Status as Off-line " unchecked.
This leaves you logged in and set as Away.
2a) Using the screen name on Any other User Account on your Mac.
    3) Using another Aim Client on another Mac User Account.
    4) Setting up the Jabber side with an AIM transport as CodLBi describes meaning the Screen Name you use gets logged in twice from the same iChat in fact. Short of closing down that Transport using Psi or another Jabber Client there is no way round this as the Jabber side does not allow Multiple logins like the AIM side.
It is most likely something you have done in the past and forgotten about rather than the possibles created by a LAN set up using WiFi and Ethernet at the same time.
Having said that having Internet Sharing On in System Preferences > Sharing and having a second computer ON will cause this as well.
Add to the List using AIM in Windows in Parallels or or VMFusion

  • Someone used my account to buy stuff!

Hey guys, a while back, about 2 years ago I had my moms credit card on my iTunes account. My friend bought an iPod touch and asked to use my account for free purchases only. All was fine and dandy for a while, but then, he bought a TON of music and paid apps. I didn't know about it for at least a couple weeks, then I checked my email and saw a whole bunch of purchases I didn't make. It added up to about $80 I think. Well, after talking with apple for a while, they refunded it all. (BTW my friend never confessed but I know it was him, cause I saw the music he bought on his iPod.)
We took my moms credit card off of the account for a while, until I got a bank card for my small business and decided to put it on my account for a few occasional purchases for me. I didn't want to accuse my friend, so I let him keep the password. We haven't talked for a couple month for non-related reasons.
So today, November 27, 2010, I checked my email as my usual agenda (now I check my email daily for many reasons), and I found a bill from apple for $12.64. And I immediately knew all of the purchases were from him because he listens to that same generic hip hop music he has since I met him. I immediately changed my password.
So tell me forum, what should I do? Should I just contact apple again, or should I press charges? I don't even think $12 is worth my time to file a charge lol, but I dont want this to go unpunished again. I wish I could get his iPod and give it to the authorities as evidence.
    Thanks for the help, atmmayes.

You already changed the password. My advice is to leave the payment method = NONE for a good long while. Only put your card details in just before you buy something, then take them right out again.
In my opinion you shouldn't have asked Apple for the first $80 refund. You know that old saying, "Fool me once shame on you, fools me twice shame on me"? Why in the world you let this person take advantage twice, I do not know.
Do you have any idea what a hassle it is to press charges? I think it takes $50 to file a claim in small claims court so that is a non-starter for the amounts you're talking about. Even if you win the case it is still up to you to collect.

  • Automatic Payment FRAUD Someone Used My Account

I own a business and have five BofA accounts. It wasn't till I was reconciling all 5 accounts with a new bookkeeper that we realized there were two automatic payments being made per month for the last 8 months. One was mine and god knows who the other one is for.  There is no phone number or account number matched to the transactions and when I called the fraud department and accounts payable they said they couldn't help me. They didn't care that someone has been fraudulantly accessing my bank funds to pay their AT&T bill.  What is my recourse besides the bank? I want to know who did this and want a credit for the months not being reversed by my bank.  My bank suggested I file a police report and a friend who works at AT&T suggested the office of the president.  Any help would be appreciated.

Start with the bank and police. The bank should have records of where an automatic payment is going.
Typically some account number is included in the transaction details. I don't know why they say there is not.
You can of course stop the payment to ATT.

  • What do you do if someone uses your account to purchase programs? All the YuFanApp programs were purchased on my account. I called apple and they said go online to express support and that was NO help. I changed my passwords but I am concerned.

Yesterday I started getting these emails that my address and credit card information was changed. I then got one that an order was placed on a device I had never used before. I did not do any of this so I went in to my account and there it was, all programs by YuFanApp had been purchased! (To me this is a red flag that that company may have stolen information from itunes users!) My credit card was not on file, I can't remember if I ever had it on there. The gift card I had on my account had been drained. My shipping adress was still the same. So I changed my password and tried to call customer service. They said they were sorry and just go online to the customer support express page and do things there to report it but there is nothing there to report it. Anyone have an email address or something I can work with?

A reset may help. Tap and hold the Home button and the On/Off buttons for approximately 10-15 seconds, until the Apple logo reappears. When the logo appears, release both buttons.

I have my personal music (not purchased from Itunes) stored in two locations, on my PC and on an external HD. How can I find out which directory itunes uses to access this music? I am using Itunes version 11.4.0.18. Thanks

Many thanks JEM24 for your help.  Ive just spent the best part of six hundred pounds on a new Sony Rx100m2 compact camera, so I have no interest in the Ipods camera at all really. I doubt Ill be watching many videos on it as Im very lucky in that I have a good Android tablet. Its more as a stock music player that Ill be buying the Ipod for, if indeed I do end up buying one. I dont like the idea of paying the exorbitant amount added for more memory space that Apple along with most other companies charge. In fact I read an article on this very subject just yesterday in the tech section of Flipboard. It stated in the article that in the case of the Iphone  the actual cost of each additional  gigabyte of storage  to Apple et al is something in the order of 60p.. This is certainly not reflected in the price us the customer has to pay at the till.. Its for this reason primarily that Apple in particular, because their products do not allow adding expandable memory of your own in the form of cheap to buy cards, that nobody in their right mind buys the 64gig etc Iphones..I am aware that we are discussing my potential purchase of an Ipod Touch here but you see my point. Many thanks again though for helping me.
