Significance of AirPort Icon with an upward pointing arrow?

I think I may have exceeded my competence level here !! I volunteered to help a friend who was given a MacBook Pro for Christmas. She has never used a computer before but we decided that the most important thing for her was to have internet access. Her teenage daughter (who lives in the same house) has a 1.33GB G4 iBook and has her iBook connected to an ADSL modem using an Ethernet cable.
My thinking was that, because both computers have AirPort Extreme Wireless cards, I should be able to connect her MacBook Pro wirelessly to the internet via her daughter's iBook Ethernet connection to the ADSL modem.
After trying many different methods I finally (I think) got everything to work (at least they are now both are connected to the internet). However, the iBook (which is the one connected via Ethernet to the ADSL modem) now has an upward pointing arrow through the AirPort icon in the Menu bar. Is this significant?
Can anyone point me to a 'how to' article that I could check? My friend's MacBook Pro is running 10.5.1 and her daughter's iBook is on 10.4.11.

My ipod told me I had a corrupt disk so I restored it. I then tried to sync it with my itunes library but after a while it said "The iPod (my name) cannot be synced. The required file (or disk) cannot be found." And then it says the sync is finished. When I look at my iPod, only a few of my songs appear as opposed to the number that it got to when syncing. I then tried restoring it again but the computer now freezes and doesn't find the ipod and only unfreezes when the ipod is unplugged. Occasionally itunes comes up with a message about my ipod being corrupt and needs to be restored even when the ipod isn't plugged in. Now the folder icon with an exclamation point has come up on my screen, and it will not connect to the computer at all. iPod Manager Internal Error deals with the software versions you have on your computer. One of them might be out of date. Make sure you have iTunes 6.0.4 (open iTunes, click on Help, click on About iTunes. The version is the top line of the gray text that scrolls up). Then make sure you have iPod Updater 2006-03-23.

If you find that your software is all up to date, try just restarting your computer, and then restoring again. (If you have your iPod in disk mode, you should disconnect it before you restart your computer).
If that doesn't work, just uninstall and reinstall iTunes. This should resolve the iPod Manager Internal Error.
As far as the lock icon goes... I'm not sure about that one. It might have something to do with having the iPod in disk mode, or it might just be acting weird because of what's going on with the iPod right now. As long as it isn't blocking you from trying the steps to fix the iPod, I wouldn't worry too much about it for now. Maybe it'll act normally once you resolve the !folder.

My battery life on my 4g ipod was still pretty descent, but just recently, if i don't charge it every other day, i get a battery icon with a exclamation point over it. Did the battery life just drop that quickly, and if so, how do i fix? Send in for a battery replacement, or can i do that myself?

I know ,ive read & tried the 5Rs posted on web but it just don't seems to work.

A. Diagnostic mode solution
If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select"
The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons:

Try to do the 5in1, HDD R/W and HDD scan tests. Some successful cases have been reported after the running the few tests under the Diagnostic mode. In case it does not work in your case, and the scan tests reports show some errors then it proves your iPod has a hardware problem and it needs a repairing service.
B. Format your iPod with a start disk
I have not tried this solution myself, I heard that there were few successful cases that the users managed to get their iPod (you must put your iPod in disk mode before connecting with a computer) mounted by the computer, which was booted by a system startup disk. For Mac, you can use the Disk Utility (on the Tiger OS system disk), for PC user, you can use the window OS system disk. Try to find a way to reformat your iPod, again it does not matter which format (FAT32, NTFS or HFS+) you choose, the key is to erase the corrupted system files on the iPod. Then eject your iPod and do a Reset to switch out from Disk Mode. Reboot your computer at the normal way, connect your iPod back with it, open the iPod updater, and hopefully your iPod will appear there for the Restore.
If none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired.

Have I tried these myself? No, I am afraid to do it myself as I am squeamish about tinkering inside electronic devices, I have few experiences that either I broke the parts (which are normally tiny or fragile) or failed to put the parts back to the main case. Nano cannot be restored "cant mount", battery icon with exclamation point

My ipod nano is showing a battery icon with an exclamation point whenever i reset it I get the same icon. When ever i connect it to my computer the updater wont acknowledge that it is plugged into the computer. Whenever its plugged into the computer i get the check mark with a "ok to disconnect" please help i really really want my ipod back in time for fall.

my nano seems to have charging problems, it has been charging all night and all day, and when i unplug it from the charger, it won't turn on as if it hasnt been charged, but the full charge icon doesn't show, the charging one does, so after i unplug it, and plug it back in, the battery icon with an exclamation point flashes on and off with the apple icon, does anyoen know what is wrong, or what i can do to make it work, resetting wont work because it wont even turn on, my last nano had a battery problem, and this is a brand new nano, but still seems to have problems

Hello everybody,
Can someone please tell me what the box with a downward facing arrow is for that can be seen in mail on iPad in the top right menu? I've used it but don't know where the emails are being moved to.
I have the latest iPad (Retina display) if that helps in any way.

The icon of a folder with the downward pointing arrow is for moving an email into a different email folder - and you should be able to chose which folder to move the email to when you tap on the icon.
If it's a gmail account then you may have an icon of an arrow and a box that allows you to move (or archive) emails into your 'all emails' folders - that icon will appear instead of a trashcan for deleting email, but you can chose which you have in the account's settings (archive or delete) : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4207

That image means that it's gone into recovery mode - you will need to connect the iPad to your computer's iTunes (you will need the current version of iTunes installed on your computer)and you should be able to use that to reset your iPad back to factory defaults, you can then restore/resync your content to it.

If it is otherwise working, you can change the battery. If you want to do it yourself, you can buy the part on eBay and other online sources. Just make sure you know the type of iPod you have so that you get the right part.

You can also have a repair business do the work.
If it is just the battery, if you do a Reset (using the Menu and Select buttons) while it is connect to your computer, I think it should still be recognized by iTunes.

Folder icon with exclamation point...and updater problems

So here's what has happened to me today:
I plugged my iPod into my computer(this is a computer WITHOUT iPod installed yet) to charge. In the meantime, I downloaded the latest iPod updater and iTunes. The first time I used the updater, it told me that there was an iPod service error. I followed some instructions on the apple support site..and The next time I tried, it told me that one or more applications were using the iPod. I knew this wasn't the case, because the only application open was the updater, and no antivirus software was currently running. So I took my iPod back to my laptop computer(DOES have iPod installed) and it also told me that one or more applications were using the iPod, even though there were no applications open.
So now I have a little folder with an exclamation point that tells me to go to the apple support site, which I have been to numerous times...I can put my iPod into disk mode which really doesn't help anyways...

In Hong Kong there are some electronic shops offering an iPod service for Sad iPod, the first thing they do is to open up the iPod’s case and disconnecting the battery and the Hard Drive from the main board of the iPod. Wait for 5-10 minutes and reconnecting them back. The reason behind which I can think of is to do a fully reset of a processor of the iPod. Have I tried these myself? No, I am afraid to do it myself as I am squeamish about tinkering inside electronic devices, I have few experiences that either I broke the parts (which are normally tiny or fragile) or failed to put the parts back to the main case. Therefore, I agree with suggestion to have it fixed by a Pro.

IPod shows a folder icon with exclamation point after discon

Since I always ignore instruction booklets with new devices, I failed to notice the warnings with regard to configuring my iPod mini on a Windows PC. I did not install the included software first and I tried to sync with iTunes (my girlfriend already has an iPod mini so iTunes was already installed). As a result I ended up with folder exclamation point icon.
I tried the folowing already:
1) Reformatting the disk through windows explorer
2) Reset:
The folder icon with exclamtion point appears after reset
3) Running Updater 2004-04-28:
After plugging in the iPod at the prompt, the message "iPod updater can;t install firmware on connected iPod. The iPods hardware and the updater firmware are not compatible." I got the same message when doing the same thing in 'disk mode'.
4) Running the software on the disc that came with it:
When prompted I connected the iPod to the PC. I get a message "Your iPod has been connected. Please wait while the system recognises the device". And then nothing happens.
Please can anyone advise me how to fix this problem?

Ok guys!! I did it!! I fixed my iPod! I want to thanks Apple for the great help they gave me (I'm being sarcastic)!
I remember that I downloaded iTunes 4.9 and the iPod updater from 2 two weeks ago on my neighbor's computer.
As this problem (IPod shows a folder icon with exclamation point when I turn it on) only happened since I upgraded iTunes to 5.0 version and iPod updater, and after one and a half day calling Apple, reading the entire web site looking for an answer, discussing with a lot of people about this problem and nothing happened, I wanted to give the last try and went to may neighbor's computer!!
I turned on the iPod updater.
When it said i had to connect my iPod I did it
Then I pressed RESTORE
After that I plug it in the A/C adapter
It worked
I connected the iPod to the computer again
iTunes worked and my iPod is working as a new one!!

I can't restore the I Pod or reset it as they first told on the support web site, because it only appears that message...
I installed the latest version of the iPod updater and it didn't work also.
When I go to the iPod updater it gives me the "iPod service error" message.
What must I do!
