Significance of FRE

hi
in pricing proced for a cond type FRA1 am maintaing acct key as FRE , accrual key as FR1
when am taking GR
accounts are updating like this for Ex
Inventory ac Dr   BSX  110 Rs/
GR/IR ac Cr    WRX   100 Rs/
Frt ac Cr          FR1   10 Rs/
here am not understanding what is the significance of FRE
if i remove acct key as FRE also am getting same accounts when am taking GR.
Is this mandatory in pricing schema or not.
as per SAP help this field is required if purchase account management active only.
Is this wright or not.
let me take one example & explain me
even in STD SAP in OBYC for FRE key no G/L account assigned.
can any one explain me
thanks
nani

hi
account key :-
The account key enables the system to post amounts to certain types of revenue account. For example, the system can post freight charges
as we need the freight amount separately in diffrent gl acount so we needa diffrent account key.
so we define FRE key in acct key
accruals means :-
With the aid of the account key, the system can post amounts to certain types of accruals accounts. For example, rebate accruals which are calculated from pricing conditions can be posted to the corresponding account for rebate accruals.
FRE  is used only if Purchase Account Management is active in the company code
so u have to maintain the fre key for correct accounting and also have to give gl acct in OBYC for the same
reward if useful

  • Finder reports different free space on disk compared to DiskUtil

After upgrading to Lion I am facing a very strange problem:
Finder reports much more free space on my Macintosh HD compared to Disk Utility. I also take a look on what Daisy Disk reports and
daisy Disk reports exactly the same numbers  like Disk Utility. Booted into Lion recovery partitions and preformed disk verify and repair.
Everything seems to be fine except that finder reports significantly more free space (350 GB) compared to Disk Utility (364 GB).
    Any advise ?

Trash is empty. Checked this also via Terminal. And one more comment: I do not have a Bootcamp partition. I never had one and never created one.

  • FRE & FR1

    Hi Gurus,
In pricing schema, we assign against FRA1 cond. type, Act Key - FRE is maintained & Accrls - FR1 is assigned.
In OBYC, i don't find any G/L Assignment for FRE.
What is significance of FRE & FR1 here. If possible explain with an example.
    Thanks

    Hi
you are taking of the freight condition FRA1.Now the account key is used where youwant to post this freight to sepearte G/L account key.Say for example i dont want topost the freight too material account ( materialcost )  but to sepearte G/L account . If you go to condition type FRA1 there you will find that tick is made on the accural this means that cost is accured in this G/L anwillbe cleared later stage.
To enable the system to find the relevant account for provisions (for accrued delivery costs or miscellaneous provisions, for example), you must assign a transaction/event (internal processing) key to each condition type that is relevant to provisions in the step Define Calculation Schema.
If purchase account management is active within a company code, you must specify the transaction/event key in the field <b>'AccKy'.</b> If not, you make this specification in the field <b>'Provis.'.</b>
Via "<b>Transaction/Event Key Usage"</b> and "<b>Usage of Transaction Key in</b> Purchase Account Management", you can determine the calculation schemas in which the account keys are udes

  • Ipad space management

    Hi. Basic stats:
    iPAD4 - 64
iOS 7.1 (upgraded 20 minutes ago as my first attempt to resolve this problem)
    laptop with windows 7.
Scenario 1: Sync music with "automatically fill free space with songs". Result: 9GB free.
Scenario 2: Sync music with "entire music library". Result: While I have 21GB free, I still get an error because I need more space (4 GB more space).
The screen shots were taken 2 minutes apart and show significantly different 'free space' available (I removed the movies and YouTube apps so I should have no videos in both scenarios).
    I don't understand this contradiction.
    Thank you,

    Thanks for offering assistance.
I could understand you totally if the space taken by 'other' was a constantly high value, but it is not. It jumps up at random and seems to be affected most when some kind of sync or update activity is happening.
In settings the storage indicated across all apps is in total less than 5gb and remains constant.
I have seen it literally jump from 8.6gb free space to zero in seconds whilst doing nothing at all other than opening the music app or a calendar. 11gb was the biggest jump so far and forced me to factory restore and recover from backup just before going away for a family holiday this weekend.
I suspect there is an OS process using the space for housekeeping of some sort, but I cannot see which it is as the system info app I paid for does not give more detail. This happens with no apps loaded other than calendar, music, email.
Does the iPad use a virtual disk when it's out of memory or something? Would be useful to know how iOS manages when it's got too much to do.
But then again, I shouldn't have to debug the OS should I? Surely not....

  • Windows Phone Mango is Coming in a Week or Two new Rumor Posted Link!!!!!!!!

Well here is the new rumor but looks like this might be it. I have seen this on numerous sites.

ROTF. You are running Mango without Verizon hardware tweaks, but that is moot. Mango has too many updates from NoDo (what Trophy ships with) to post here. A significant and FREE update to all windows phone 7 devices.
The less Verizon does to "Windows Phone" software the better also. They are infamous for their bloat/shovelware - none of which WP allows

  • Free disk space significantly smaller after reinstalling

After installing the update for iTunes 8.0.2, I was one of the lucky few who couldn't get their macbooks to boot back up after shutting down after successfully rebooting.
After an apple care phone call and visit to the Genius Bar, all is good again.
But, at the Bar, they reinstalled leopard. I noticed just a little while ago that my free disk space is significantly less than what it was before all of this happened.
Do I need to delete the old install or something (where and how)? He didn't do any archiving as far as I could tell. He just plugged my macbook into the orange thing and reinstalled it.
    Message was edited by: heymego

the guy at the genius bar clearly did an archive and install so that your old user data and applications were preserved. that creates a "Previous Systems" folder at the top level of the hard drive which contains your old system. If everything is working ok you should delete that folder and empty trash. once you do the lost space will be reclaimed.

  • Significant Decease In Hard Drive Free Space

I bought my first mac last week, mac book pro 13" with 320g hard drive. I have only installed three programs, ibank 4, iwork, and sophos anti virus. Along with 2g of pictures. I noticed tonight that the free space on my hard drive has decreased to 99g. Is it normal for mac's to use over 200g for its operating system and programs that came installed on the computer? I was really taken back by how quickly I have eaten through space on my hard drive without storing music or videos.

Ok, I feel pretty dumb. I did not know that I imported 107g of my itunes videos. The importation of those videos explains the loss of hard drive space. I'm sorry if I wasted anyones time.

  • A simple and free way of reducing PDF file size using Preview

Note: this is a copy and update of a 5 year old discussion in the Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard discussions which you can find here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/6109398#6109398
This is a simple and free solution I found to reduce the file size of PDFs in OS X, without the high cost and awful UI of Acrobat Pro, and with acceptable quality. I still use it every day, although I have Acrobat Pro as part of Adove Creative Cloud subscription.
Since quite a few people have found it useful and keep asking questions about the download location and destination of the filters, which have changed since 2007, I decided to write this update, and put it in this more current forum.
Here is how to install it:
Download the filters here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/41548940/PDF%20compression%20filters%20%28Un zip%20and%20put%20in%20your%20Library%20folder%29.zip
Unzip the downloaded file and copy the filters in the appropriate location (see below).
Here is the appropriate location for the filters:
This assumes that your startup disk's name is "Macintosh HD". If it is different, just replace "Macintosh HD" with the name of your startup disk.
If you are running Lion or Mountain Lion (OS X 10.7.x or 10.8.x) then you should put the downloaded filters in "Macintosh HD/Library/PDF Services". This folder should already exist and contain files. Once you put the downloaded filters there, you should have for example one file with the following path:
    "Macintosh HD/Library/PDF Services/Reduce to 150 dpi average quality - STANDARD COMPRESSION.qfilter"
If you are running an earlier vesion of OS X (10.6.x or earlier), then you should put the downloaded filters in "Macintosh HD/Library/Filters" and you should have for example one file with the following path:
"Macintosh HD/Library/Filters/Reduce to 150 dpi average quality - STANDARD COMPRESSION.qfilter"
Here is how to use it:
Open a PDF file using Apple's Preview app,
Choose Export (or Save As if you have on older version of Mac OS X) in the File menu,
    Choose PDF as a format
In the "Quartz Filter" drop-down menu, choose a filter "Reduce to xxx dpi yyy quality"; "Reduce to 150 dpi average quality - STANDARD COMPRESSION" is a good trade-off between quality and file size
    Here is how it works:
These are Quartz filters made with Apple Colorsinc Utility.
    They do two things:
downsample images contained in a PDF to a target density such as 150 dpi,
enable JPEG compression for those images with a low or medium setting.
Which files does it work with?
It works with most PDF files. However:
It will generally work very well on unoptimized files such as scans made with the OS X scanning utility or PDFs produced via OS X printing dialog.
It will not further compress well-optimized (comrpessed) files and might create bigger files than the originals,
For some files it will create larger files than the originals. This can happen in particular when a PDF file contains other optomizations than image compression. There also seems to be a bug (reported to Apple) where in certain circumstances images in the target PDF are not JPEG compressed.
What to do if it does not work for a file (target PDF is too big or even larger than the original PDF)?
First,a good news: since you used a Save As or Export command, the original PDF is untouched.
You can try another filter for a smaller size at the expense of quality.
The year being 2013, it is now quite easy to send large files through the internet using Dropbox, yousendit.com, wetransfer.com etc. and you can use these services to send your original PDF file.
There are other ways of reducing the size of a PDF file, such as apps in the Mac App store, or online services such as the free and simple http://smallpdf.com
    What else?
Feel free to use/distribute/package in any way you like.

    Thanks ioscar.
The original link should be back online soon.
I believe this is a Dropbox error about the traffic generated by my Dropbox shared links.
I use Dropbox mainly for my business and I am pretty upset by this situation.
Since the filters themsemves are about 5KB, I doubt they are the cause for this Dropbox misbehavior!
Anyway, I submitted a support ticket to Dropbox, and hope everything will be back to normal very soon.
In the meantime, if you get the same error as ioscar when trying to download them, you can use the link in the blog posting he mentions.
This is out of topic, but for those interested, here is my understanding of what happened with Dropbox.
I did a few tests yesterday with large (up to 4GB) files and Dropbox shared links, trying to find the best way to send a 3 hour recording from French TV - French version of The Voice- to a friend's 5 year old son currently on vacation in Florida, and without access to French live or catch up TV services. One nice thing I found is that you can directly send the Dropbox download URL (the one from the Download button on the shared link page) to an AppleTV using AirFlick and it works well even for files with a large bitrate (except of course for the Dropbox maximum bandwidth per day limit!). Sadly, my Dropbox shared links were disabled before I could send anything to my friend.
I may have used  a significant amount of bandwidth but nowhere near the 200GB/day limit of my Dropbox Pro account.
I see 2 possible reasons to Dropbox freaking out:
    - My Dropbox Pro account is wronngly identified as a free account by Dropbox. Free Dropbox accounts have a 20GB/day limit, and it is possible that I reached this limit with my testing, I have a fast 200Mb/s internet access.
    - Or Dropbox miscalculates used bandwidth, counting the total size of the file for every download begun, and I started a lot of downloads, and skipped to the end of the video a lot of times on my Apple TV.

  • MacBook Pro 13" Late 2011 Experiencing Significant Slow Down After Boot Camp Installation

Okay, so today, after installing Windows 7 on my MacBook Pro via Bootcamp Assistant, I experienced significant performance slow down (fans going at full blast, applications opening after extended periods of time, keystrokes not being registered) when I returned to my OS X partition/second hard drive. I have dual hard drives, one of them being a Samsung 256 GB SSD with OS X Mavericks and the other being my original 500 GB HDD, divided into a 250 GB OS X Mavericks partition and a 250 GB Windows partition. I have the SSD set as my startup disk and I have it located in the main HDD bay. I moved the old HDD into a caddy and placed it where the optical drive normally should be.
After multiple failed attempts to install Windows via USB and Bootcamp Assistant, I decided to reinstall my optical drive and use a Windows installation disk. This attempt proved successful, and I was able to install Windows 7 onto the 250 GB partition I had created for it on the 500 GB HDD. After completing basic setup of Windows, I removed the optical disk drive and reinstalled the SSD and the HDD into their original spots (SSD in the main HDD bay, HDD in the caddy where the optical drive normally is).
After completing this tedious process, I booted my Mac back up using the SSD. However, I noticed something was wrong when the login screen, apps, and nearly everything else on my desktop had slowed to crawl. I decided to check my Activity Monitor to see what the problem might be. Activity Monitor told me that the task "kernel_task" was taking up anywhere from 200-600% of my CPU, which explained the slowdown in performance. I looked around to see if there were others with the same problem as me, and I found that Spotlight Indexing might be an issue, with a potential remedy being move my Bootcamp Partition into the Privacy section of Spotlight under System Preferences. After doing that, I experienced no increase in performance and everything was still going very slowly.
The next step I took was to see if booting into Safe Mode would help the issue. After booting into Safe Mode on my SSD, I noticed that things were back to their normal speeds, with applications opening at the speed they should be and keystrokes being registered instantaneously. However, the fans were still going and had not shut off once booting into Safe Mode. In addition, I checked Activity Monitor and the "kernel_task" in question was no longer taking up massive amounts of the CPU.
At this point, I don't know what to do and I need help in restoring my Mac to original speeds. I may end up deleting my Boot Camp partition as a last measure if all else fails, seeing as I installed Windows in the first place for running a few programs and games that I can live without. However, I'd prefer to not have things come to that and fix things before deleting the Boot Camp Partition. I've heard that if everything runs normally in Safe Mode, then the issue is third-party software. Is this true?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am writing this from the MacBook in question in Safe Mode because it's essentially useless in normal SSD operation.

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the behest of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
Paste into the window of another application.
Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
    11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start Time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Free / open source Closed Captioning software?

I'd like to add closed captions to a feature film I produced. I understand the difference between closed captioning (which is embedded in the video and decoded by the TV) and DVD subtitles, and I would like to add real closed captioning.
Is there any free / open source Mac-compatible closed captioning software I can use to add captions to my feature film and create a .cc file for importing into DVD Studio Pro?
I'm more than comfortable with steep learning curves and X11 interfaces. If I have to use a text editor and timecodes, that's fine too. I just need that .cc file to add true closed captioning to my video, and I don't have the dough for commercial CC software.
    Thanks!

my company does offer closed captioning as a service, Kelly is correct when he says the software is very expensive. as far as creating a .scc file with a text editor, i don't believe it is possible but i may be wrong. when opening a .scc or .cc file in a text editor, it does look like a bunch of "gobbledygook". but the .cap file that is used to create the .scc or .cc file looks a bit more manageable and could possibly be created without captioning software, again i may be wrong and have never attempted to do it. but say you could do it, you could save a bunch of money by creating the .cap file and giving it to someone who has the software to convert it to .scc or .cc. if that seems overwhelming and want to job it out, you could save some money by transcribing the video yourself which is a significant part of the cost when outsourcing. here is a sample of what a .cap file looks like:

  • Is ther a way to speed up a Mac? Mine has gotten slower and slower over time.  When memory comes close to full would that have an effect on performance? Is there a way to determine unused programs/software to remove and free space?

Is there a way to speed up a Mac (similar to de-fragging on a PC)? Mine has gotten slower and slower over time.
When memory/disc comes close to full would that have an effect on performance? How should I determine what programs/software to remove and free space?

Things You Can Do To Resolve Slow Downs
If your computer seems to be running slower here are some things you can do:
    Start with visits to:     OS X Maintenance - MacAttorney;
                                      The X Lab: The X-FAQs;
                                      The Safe Mac » Mac Performance Guide;
                                      The Safe Mac » The myth of the dirty Mac;
                                      Mac maintenance Quick Assist.
Boot into Safe Mode then repair your hard drive and permissions:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions Pre-Lion
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
    Repair the Hard Drive - Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the Utilites Menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD disk icon and click on the arrow button below.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. If no errors are reported, then click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Restart your computer normally and see if this has helped any. Next do some maintenance:
For situations Disk Utility cannot handle the best third-party utility is Disk Warrior;  DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible.
Note: Alsoft ships DW on a bootable DVD that will startup Macs running Snow Leopard or earlier. It cannot start Macs that came with Lion or later pre-installed, however, DW will work on those models.
    Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep.  Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts was significantly reduced since Tiger.  These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard or later and should not be installed.
OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive.
    Helpful Links Regarding Malware Protection
An excellent link to read is Tom Reed's Mac Malware Guide.
Also, visit The XLab FAQs and read Detecting and avoiding malware and spyware.
    See these Apple articles:
Mac OS X Snow Leopard and malware detection
OS X Lion- Protect your Mac from malware
OS X Mountain Lion- Protect your Mac from malware
About file quarantine in OS X
If you require anti-virus protection I recommend using VirusBarrier Express 1.1.6 or Dr.Web Light both from the App Store. They're both free, and since they're from the App Store, they won't destabilize the system. (Thank you to Thomas Reed for these recommendations.)
    Troubleshooting Applications
I recommend downloading a utility such as TinkerTool System, OnyX, Mavericks Cache Cleaner, or Cocktail that you can use for removing old log files and archives, clearing caches, etc. Corrupted cache, log, or temporary files can cause application or OS X crashes as well as kernel panics.
If you have Snow Leopard or Leopard, then for similar repairs install the freeware utility Applejack.  If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the command line.  Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. Applejack does not work with Lion and later.
    Basic Backup
For some people Time Machine will be more than adequate. Time Machine is part of OS X. There are two components:
    1. A Time Machine preferences panel as part of System Preferences;
    2. A Time Machine application located in the Applications folder. It is
used to manage backups and to restore backups. Time Machine
requires a backup drive that is at least twice the capacity of the
        drive being backed up.
Alternatively, get an external drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
      1. Carbon Copy Cloner
      2. Get Backup
      3. Deja Vu
      4. SuperDuper!
      5. Synk Pro
      6. Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on backup and restore.  Also read How to Back Up and Restore Your Files. For help with using Time Machine visit Pondini's Time Machine FAQ for help with all things Time Machine.
Referenced software can be found at MacUpdate.
    Additional Hints
Be sure you have an adequate amount of RAM installed for the number of applications you run concurrently. Be sure you leave a minimum of 10% of the hard drive's capacity as free space.
Add more RAM. If your computer has less than 2 GBs of RAM and you are using OS X Leopard or later, then you can do with more RAM. Snow Leopard and Lion work much better with 4 GBs of RAM than their system minimums. The more concurrent applications you tend to use the more RAM you should have.
Always maintain at least 15 GBs or 10% of your hard drive's capacity as free space, whichever is greater. OS X is frequently accessing your hard drive, so providing adequate free space will keep things from slowing down.
Check for applications that may be hogging the CPU:
    Pre-Mavericks
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu.  Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order.  If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time (>=70,) then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar.  Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process.  See if that helps.  Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.
    Mavericks and later
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the View menu.  Click on the CPU tab in the toolbar.
Often this problem occurs because of a corrupted cache or preferences file or an attempt to write to a corrupted log file.

  • Free songs and money GONE

I had a significant number of free songs and money, and all the sudden it disappeared. What happened to it? The thing was, even when I had it, iTunes always charged me anyway, and I couldn't figure out how to use my money and free songs. Is there anyway to contact apple to figure out what happened?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

    Jeff Schmitz,
Click on your account name in the upper right hand corner of the iTunes Store window, and login again.
That should update the balance and make it reappear.
Some promotional song credits have an expiration date by which they have to be used, but money from gift cards should remain.
EDIT: Note: Once downloaded the songs don't expire, just some credits that are promotional have an expiration date they need to be used by.

  • Free goods , contract, creating order

    Hello SAP Prof,
    1. what is the diff b/w Free goods and Bonus buy?
    2. What is Rental Contract and service contract?
    3. How can we create our own order ,
( we can copy std order.)  But plz tell me how to create order with copy controls in detail.

    Hi Rajesh
Free goods are considered to be merchandise, moveable belongings or personal property. Free goods are those which economists are not interested in because in free goods doe not offer the opportunity for creating a cost for usage. The best example of free goods is air because there is no scarity of air. Economists are interested only in goods, which can be manipulated to create cost for useage. Free goods are plentiful, you have as much as you want without a chance for future cost to society.
A bonus buy refers to any product manufactured or otherwise made available for purchase at a lower cost for a certain period of time. A bonus buy can relate to food, cars, stocks, bonds, insurance, bank loans or almost any product you can think of.
Examples of Bonus buys are: Buy one and get one free, 20% original price, 15% Reduced Mortgage today.
    SERVICE CONTRACT:
A service contract is an arrangement between a service provider and service recipient and is characterized by a separate lease and service contract term. The lease usually ranges from 22 to 27 years while the service contract ranges from 13 to 18 years in length. The combination of the lease and service contract terms is typically 80% of the useful life of the asset. While the equity return is based on the overall term, depreciation occurs over 125% of the lease term only which differs from a pickle structure where depreciation occurs over the entire deal term. The participants in this type of transaction are the service provider or lessor, service recipient or lessee, operator, and customer. Typically, a service contract is used with assets such as gas, water, and power distribution networks and generation facilities. However, they can also be applied to real estate and securitization transactions.
A service contract is considered a property lease under section 7701(e) of the IRS Code if certain requirements hold. These requirements are divided into general and special criteria groups. Section 7701(e) outlines six criteria in the general case which indicate when a service contract should actually be classified as a lease:
If the service recipient is in physical possession of the property
If the service recipient controls the property
If the service recipient has a “significant” economic interest in the property
If the service provider has no economic risk in the contract
If the service provider does not provide services to a third party
If the contract price does not “substantially” exceed the rental value of the property
To obtain classification as a service contract, the first two rules essentially require a management contract so that the service provider maintains control of the property. The service recipient is allowed to retain an interest in the land underlying the asset via a ground lease without being considered in physical possession of the property. However, they will not be able to mandate how the property is maintained, operated, or improved. There are five rules to consider which determine “significant” economic interest in a property:
If the property is utilized by a service recipient for most of its useful life
If the service recipient bears the risk of a decline in value of the property
If the service recipient shares the reward for an increase in value of the property
If the service recipient receives a portion of savings in operating costs
If the service recipient bears the risk of damage or loss of the property
To be considered a service contract, the fourth general rule requires the service provider to bear the risk of reduced receipts or increased expenses as the result of non-performance under the contract. An exception to this rule is a provision which allows for an output contract to remain in force during short shut-downs of a facility. To resemble a service contract, the fifth rule states that services must be provided to someone other than the service recipient. For example, a purchaser of power should allow sales to customers and not use all of it for themselves. The last rule states that the total contract price should “substantially” exceed the value of the property to be classified as a service contract. Thus, if the contract price is derived mostly from recovery of costs of the property or there is a separation between use and service charges of the property, then the contract will resemble a lease.
An important item to note is that not all six requirements need to be satisfied to be considered a service contract. Section 7701(e) does not weight any of the criteria but simply allows for a contract either resembling a lease or a service contract. This would imply that a simple majority of criteria is necessary for classification.
Section 7701(e)(3) provides special rules for determining whether a contract is a service contract. These special rules apply only to the following types of facilities: qualified solid waste disposal, cogeneration, alternative energy, and water treatment works. The following four special rules replace the general rules for the above facility types and indicate when a service contract should actually be classified as a lease:
If the service recipient operates the facility
If the service recipient risks a significant financial loss when there is non-performance under the contract
If the service recipient risks a significant financial gain when operating costs are less that the standards of performance under the contract
If the service recipient has a purchase option or is required to buy all or part of the facility at a fixed price other than the fair market value
There are three main differences between the special and general rules. The first one is that with the special rules, lower operating costs cannot be passed on to the service recipient. Secondly, the risk of temporary shut down of the facility can be shared by the service recipient. Lastly, all costs and benefits due to changes in the law can be passed on to the service recipient.
Service contracts have less tax downside and less financial risk as well as more even returns over time. Also, the contract must be carefully structured to qualify as a service contract. While it is easier to qualify under the special rules, there are many fewer available facilities. The main tax benefit for classification as a service contract is the allowance for depreciation over 125% of the lease term rather than 125% of the combined lease and service contract terms.
    RENTAL CONTRACT
A rental agreement is a contract, usually written, between the owner of a property and a renter who desires to have temporary possession of the property. As a minimum, the agreement identifies the parties, the property, the term of the rental, and the amount of rent for the term. The owner of the property may be referred to as the lessor and the renter as the lessee.

  • Free disk space in Finder vs Terminal df command

i am in process of writing a shell script to backup our data.
before starting the backup process, i am checking how much space is left on the disk:
    terminal> df -k /my_data_directory/
Filesystem   1024-blocks      Used Available Capacity  Mounted on
    /dev/disk0s2   244781464 173055384  71470080    71%    /
this states 71.47 GB free space on /
however, the Finder reports 96.17 GB free space on Macintosh HD (which is also mounted on /).
where does that difference come from? how can i "calculate" the real free disk space?

do i get your answer right:
this means the Finder is reporting an amount of free space one can never use?
its number includes those bytes that are unused in used disk blocks?
e.g. say a block is 8k an my specific disk, and i'm saving a file with 1k of text.
the Finder would report 7k of these 8k as free space?
while df takes the whole 8k block as "used"?
As jsd2 points out, it is more complicated than that. I don't have local snapshots running on my machine but I still have a significant discrepancy, although not as large as yours.
df is a fast tool and only looks at blocks. The Finder does more work and keeps track of file sizes and, apparently, the potential to delete them. But if you had a one-byte file, those other 4095 bytes wouldn't necessarily be wasted. You could write another 4095 bytes to that file without losing any disk space.
