Signing a PDF document

When I try to sign a PDF document, I get this error:
"The windows Crypttographic Service Provider reported and error:  The security token does not have storage space available for an additional container.  Error code 2148073507".
Anyone have an Idea?

Per the OP, the issue is that the previous version of the users certificates have not been removed
from windows.
To do this (I only know the process through I.E.):
1 - Open Internet Explorer
2 - Alt-T to open the tools menu and select Internet Options
3 - Choose the Content Tab and select Certificates
You will most likely see your 3 previous certificates, your CURRENT certificates and possibly other users certificates.
4 - REMOVE the LOWER "CA" numbered certificates by selecting them and clicking "Remove".
5 - Close IE
6 - Close Any Adobe Acrobat Documents
7 - Re-open the document you want to sign and it should work.
IF You only had your OLD certificates, you can add your new certificates by opening Active Client
1a. Choose Tools
2a. Choose Advanced
3a. Select Make Certificates Available To Windows
Hope this helps whoever comes across this in the future.

  • CfPDF: How do I electionically sign a pdf document

    Hi,
The documentation for cfPDF does not specify how to use the  "AllowSecure" option of the "Protect" action for the "Permissions" attribute.
How do you  direct cfPDF to the digital certificate you want to use to sign the pdf  document?
Please no vague answers.  Please provide the line of code using cfPDF.
    Thank you.

??? your wanting people to help you right?  Maybe you should rethink your strategy, forums are communities with pple helping one another.  Its not about joining up, and demanding an answer on day one.
Yep.  That's pretty much why I thought "yeah, screw you buddy", and moved on to the next post.

  • I can't electronically sign a PDF document

I have a PDF document (visa application) which requires an electronic signature however all the 'sign' options that are avaliable to me do not seem to work. When clicking on the 'Sign' option to the right side of the document all the options in the drop-down menu remain greyed out meaning I cannot use them. I have checked the security details of the document and 'signing' is allowed. I'm currently using Adobe reader XI. I've never used this before and have exhausted all means of trying to solve the problem myself so it would be greatly appreciated if someone could please help me out.

    Hi TheKrow,
The PDF you are trying to sign might not be Rights extended, Reader is only the read only software and is not meant for editing modifying or signing the document. For making Adobe Reader to perform certain task we need to make PDF Rights Enabled. That can be done via Adobe Acrobat.
I would recommend if you ask you to contact the creater of the PDF and ask him to send the PDF which is Reader Rights Enabled.

  • Why can't I sign a PDF document?

When I select the "Sign" pane, all of the options are greyed-out. What is wrong and how can I fix it?

That depends on the document, though some people are also reporting problems with the lastest Reader update. If the document is secured ij a way that would preclude adding e-signatures, you won't be able to add them. If you're wanting to digitally sign, then the document needs to be specifically enabled for this, either by Acrobat Pro or LiveCycle Reader Extensions. THis is something the creator of the document must do before distributing it.

  • Cannot sign a pdf document

All sign options are greyed out and not links:
How can I sign this? I need to do so ASAP as it is an application form so any prompt help would be brilliant, thanks.

This form contains unsigned signature field that needs to be signed with certificates. Click on the red arrow (or choose "Work with Certificates") for that. You cannot sign with e-Signature PDFs that have signature fields. You need to have a signing credential in order to be able to sign this PDF.

  • Signing a PDF document converts it to a higher PDF Version

I am using Acrobate 9.3 Standard.  For my industry, we are required to keep our PDF files at Version 1.4 (Adobe 5.0).  However, when we digitally sign a document it forces a save and during that save process it converts the document to Version 1.6 (Adobe 7.0).  Down-converting back to 1.4 obviously invalidats the signature.
If there a way to force the digital signature signing save to keep the document at Version 1.4?
    Thanks,
    Muiron

    The short answer is no.
In the Acrobat 5 (PDF 1.4) timeframe all you could do was create a digital signature using an Acrobat generated self-signed certificate. A5 had no concept of certificate chaining or revocation checking, which was introduced in A6 (PDF 1.5). Version 7 introduced time stamping, SHA-256 support, and OCSP revocation checking, and that's the current minimum. The older PDF standards (1.5 and earlier) don't support a signature created in A9.

  • Can't sign an .PDF document

Hello everybody! I have a problem regarding a digital signature!
A month ago I bought an Oberthur token to sign some documents. I followed the guide and tryied to import the device in Mozilla Firefox. After a few atempts I have abandoned the idea and (also following the guide) I managed to import it in Explorer (the guide proved flawless). I have signed one document and all was ok.
Yesterday I tryied to msign another document, but when I click the signature field I get the tab: Add digital ID. When I chose the "A device connected to this computer" option I got this message: "Acrobat could not find any new digital IDs..."!
I have unistalled both Mozilla Firefox and Adobe Reader X and reinstalled them. I have managed to import the signature device in Mozilla, but I can't still sign documents!
What is there to be done?

I am not familiar with the Oberthur solution, but it sounds like from your description that it is a digital certificate stored on a hardware device.  If this is the case, Reader must be configured to access this device via a PKCS11 interface (driver, typically a DLL file).
To access the security settings dialog in Reader where this configuration musrt be completed, select Edit > Protection > Security Settings...
    Select "PKCS#11 Modules and Tokens"
You will then get a security warning...
Select "Always open with Protected Mode disabled", click OK
Click the "Attach Module" button to install the driver.
    This should resolve your issue.
If you are using a "soft cert" (a digital certificate in file format such as PFX or P12) then you can ignore the PKCS#11 settings, and select the "Digital ID Files" option and click "Attach File"
    Hope this helps.

  • How can I digitally sign a pdf document and also disallow changes to the document?

When I digitally sign the document it does not let me lock it down - when I lock down the doc first, it does not allow for digital signature. Please help.

The initial document should have its properties set as:
    Changing the Document: Not allowed
    Signing: Allowed
That way no one can make changes to it but anyone may sign it. These properties are available in v9, but I'm not sure about previous versions.

  • I'm trying to fill and sign a PDF document

but when I go to save  and print it doubles up all the data input to the boxes. What am I doing wrong or is it the way the client has set up the PDF?

What software are you using to fill out the PDF form?  Is this with Acrobat/Reader, or the Fill & Sign tab in https://cloud.acrobat.com or something else?
    Thanks,
    Josh

  • When attempting to Sign a pdf document I am not finding the option to use an image, I'm only able to use a digital signature. I want to use a jpg file.

I click on Fill & Sign Tools, then I click Place Signature. The instructions show a dialog box with four options however that does not happen. I am only presented with the option of importing a digital signature. How do I get to the option of importing an image (jpg) signature?
    Robert

I assume you have a digital ID set up already. When you sign then you need to select how the signature is to appear and you can then select create new appearance. Not sure if this is what you are dealing withage.
