Signs instead of letters?

I have a feeling I have touched a "wrong" button on my display. Suddenly, I only type various signs instead of letters - so this text is written from another computer, as my MacBook is suddenly impossible to use. Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

Can you duplicate the problem or the symbols on the computer that is working? In other words, if you hold down the option key and type the letter "a" on the computer that works, does the symbol match the symbol that appears on the other computer? When I hold down the option key and press "a" I get "å". I'm just trying to determine if your computer has a stuck key or if the language was changed somehow.

Hello and thank you for posting on the HP support forums. The first thing you are going to have to do is find a way of backing up your data from your hard drive.
Once you have done that then you will want to do a full system recovery. This is only if this problem exist in safe mode as well as in normal operations.

If you are still having the problem in Safe Mode then you will have to back up your data the best you can and do the system recovery. This will take you back to the systems original configuration.

Whenever I close and then reopen firefox all I get is boxes with numbers in them instead of letters or words I have to reboot to get back to regular firefox.

If I leave firefox open and simply minimize everything is fine if I close it and then reopen it even if right away I get the boxes with the numbers instead of letters or numbers.

Try to set the pref gfx.font_rendering.directwrite.use_gdi_table_loading to false on the about:config page.
To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website. 
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page. 
*Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
*Preferences that have been modified show as bold(user set).
*Preferences can be reset to the default or changed via the right-click context menu.

Firefox displaying little boxes of hex code instead of letters

all of a sudden firefox started displaying little boxes of numbers and letters which i suppose are hex code instead of letters for all web pages visited.

Missing icons are usually supplied by a font that is downloaded from the server (@font-face) as you can probably see by little boxes that show the hex code of the characters.
Make sure that you allow pages to choose their own fonts.
*Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced: [X] "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above"
You can check the gfx.downloadable_fonts.enabled pref on the about:config page and make sure that it is set to true (if necessary double-click the line to toggle its value).

IPhone 4 keypad only shows !!!!! Instead of letters

All I can suggest is that you open that file on the MBA and save it as a new file, then see if you can open the new one on the iMac.

Do you know what could be the reason and is it reversible? Maybe there are some settings in SAP editor?
It is nonunicode ECC 6.0 EHP6 (after upgrade). Before upgrade it was ECC 5.0.

Looking at the thread:

it seems you have changed entries in TCPDB from 1401 to 1100.
This would explain your problem.
I would recommend to do a proper setup via report rscpinst.
Therefore you need to know how the system was setup before the upgrade.
If it was single code page with 1401, you need to maintain the used languages and the country field according to SAP note 43205 (the country setting can be found in table TCP0D in the old system).

Asha 305 shows Squares instead of letters in game...

Hello there. After the 7.42 update on my Asha 305 (previous one was 7.35 and everything worked fine), my pre-installed games( Solitaire-golf tour-memorize etc) stopped showing the letters in game menus. Instead, there are squares that look like this [][][][][]. This happens to me after the update to 7.42 and when the mobile phone language is Greek and not English(however, on 7.35 the game menu letters were fine and not [][][][], although the phone language was also Greek.. Any troubleshooting would be gratefully appreciated.

Can you tell us the language that the games were using before this issue happened? Normally, squares will show if the phone does not support the language of the apps or games.
If you have verified that the language of the apps or games are supported by the phone, you can try to reinstall your phone's software via Nokia Suite. Follow these steps:
1. Connect your phone to your PC via USB.
2. Open Nokia Suite and then go to Tools > Software updates.
3. Click "Reinstall software version" link and then follow the on screen instructions.

G550 laptop typing in numbers instead of letters

Hello all!
This is my first post to the forums... I wanted to just call tech support but they didn't seem to want to talk to me unless I tried every other imaginable way to fix my problem (even though I'm going off to college in a few days and need this fixed now). But anyway!
So I've noticed that when I play any flash games, if I have to type on my keyboard, the letters all type numbers. Aka, when it asks me to type in my name for the high score, instead of Sarah I'll get something like 35294. Sometimes this will also happen when I'm typing on AIM... but when I delete all the numbers and try again magically it works. This does NOT happen when I'm playing flash games and I cannot seem to avoid the problem.
Also, each letter doesn't seem to represent one number. If I type aaaaaa, I'll get something like 456789 (the number increases with every hit). It is a real issue because some games I can't even play because you have to hit the B button to attack, but it doesn't register that I'm hitting B.
Also, I can't log on unless I have just turned the computer on. Meaning, say I leave it and the laptop goes into sleep mode, if I wake it up and try to type in my password, it refuses to register that I'm typing in the correct password and I have to use Veriface loggin to get on my comptuer. This is very troublesome because Veriface doesn't work the best, so sometimes I just have to restart the computer and try logging in again.
This is a really serious issue and I need help!

I suggest you try what I did. Go to control panel -> recovery -> open system restore...
Make sure to follow all the directs, plus it was reccomended to me to back up my computer and all the files first just in case something went wrong. Although when you read the window about it, it shouldn't affect documents and such.
Anyway good luck! If that doesn't work, the man at customer service also suggested setting the computer back to its factory settings. This will erase EVERYTHING on your computer and basically wipe it clean as if you'd just bought it. If even that doesn't fix it, you're going to have to call customer service yourself, as it could be a problem with your keyboard hardware and not the computer.
Although hopefully the restore thing will work, because that was really easy and painless. Best of luck!

Keyboard layout indicator in gnome panel, red icon instead of letters

See the image, red round icon is the keyboard notification, but it shoud be ( or was ) letters.
Any idea how to change the icon back to letters? I have 2 layouts, changing gtk theme or icon theme doesn't help.

PS Caps issue is fixed now. Thanks. Caps Lock itself was disabled in Caps Lock key behaviour branch in Options in keyboard layout panel.

E65: pdf shows boxes instead of letters

I can't read any pdf files in my E65. it shows the image contents properly, but does not show any letters, intead, it shows boxes!
i am not sure whether it's a problem with the fonts or not. and i m not sure how to fix it.
could anyone help me out plz?

Email showing symbols/boxes/squares instead of letters? HELP!

Im trying to print off an invoice that was sent to my email, but when i open the email all the letters are boxes with an 'A' in them. How can i fix this so i can read it?

I was able to restore it by going into Applications>FontBook>Edit>Validate Fonts. I then deleted duplicate or (errored) fonts. I also deleted my Font Cache by using the directions in this site: http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-10389716-263.html?tag=mncol;title Neither of these seemed to make a difference UNTIL i restarted my computer. So im not sure which one actually fixed the problem, but definitely restart your computer after validating and checking fonts!

Adobe inserts spaces instead of letters during editing

When I try editing a PDF I created in Adobe, it inserts spaces in place of certain letters. Any guidance to overcome this?

Essentially it’s this. I had a misspelled word and needed to replace an uppercase B with an uppercase V. I tried deleting the B first and inserting the V, then tried highlighting the B and overwriting with V, and finally tried inserting the V after the B with the idea of just backspacing over the B afterwards.
Interestingly, the document lets me insert a lowercase v, but not an uppercase V.

Plus sign instead of data in form

I have begun using the Form feature in Adobe 8.0. I have made my forms using the Livecycle designer. I have received back completed forms via email and then I have entered the data in the actual form itself by hitting "import data." When doing so I've noticed that there are some responses that show a little bit of the answer but then there is this plus sign (+) and when I click on it, it allows me to see the rest of the response(by scrolling over).
My problem is when I print off the form, it still has this plus sign on there and it doesn't show the complete answer. The only way to see the entire response is if you scroll over on the form on the computer. I was wondering how you get it to show the entire response and get rid of the plus sign???
Any help would be appreciated.

HTMLEditorKit - unicode entities instead of letters.

I'm typing in jtpMain (JTextPane) using Russian language, but jtpMain.getText() returns entities like &1234; .
I'd really prefer to manipulate usual letters/strings, not entities. Maybe that's encoding problem?
