SIGPIPE and socket accept() calls

Hi!
I am developing a client/server application that utilises TCP stream sockets for communication between multiple clients and a single server. The main server thread creates a socket, binds it, listens and waits to accept incoming socket connections. When a connection is established it farms of a thread to handle the client's request. The server is being developed on SunOS 5.8 (sparc).
My problem is that the server receives a SIGPIPE during a blocking call to accept() shortly after a one (and only one) client initiates a connection.
I can't find any suporting documentation as to why SIGPIPE would be raised during an accept() call.
I mean, accept() accepts the socket and returns a file descriptor to the socket. If the client teared down the connection (which the client ISN'T doing) after connecting then I would expect the server to have a valid socket descriptor and EPIPE or SIGPIPEs to occur whenever the server calls socket operations like send() or recv().
Any ideas why the SIGPIPE might be happening in accept()?

Get a new iPhone. it's very difficult to get all the water out of the phone and corrosion will occur inside. Your phone will likely not be reliable even if it recovers.

    no, when using facetime you log in with the apple id you want people to reach you at, so unless you both agree to share one apple id for all the facetime you do, it will be necessary for you to logout and login each time you use the application.

    I have a Moto G on prepaid. What did I hit to make it say I am not accepting calls at this time? I did it by accident if I have done something on the phone. Please help!! I need to get it fixed.

    Finally got to the store to see what was going on. I didn't do it. My previous carrier was still holding my number even though it was working before. Verizon called and got it released and problem solved!!  Thanks!!

    The phone number for the tablet is just an identification for the VZW network.  That number doesn't allow for you to make or receive phone calls or even text messages with it.  You've been forwarding everything from your Note 2 to an abyss.  My advice is to find someone with a used phone that can take your sim card from the Note 2 and then activate it on Verizon's network.

    I just wanted to follow this up by saying that you were entirely correct in your diagnosis of the situation.  My computer did have the faulty part you linked to.  I brought my laptop in and specifically told them to run that test, had it fail and then argued with the person at the genius bar and the manager.  Eventually they offered to have it sent out and have everything replaced for free of charge.  They did so mainly because I had complained about graphical issues almost every other time I had come in with problems and no one ran the test.  They should have caught this problem during my warranty, but they didn't, even though I mentioned the problem.
    Anyhow, after having the part replaced, I haven't had my computer crash a single time since, or had many of the issues mentioned above.  I've never had this experience before.  Even brand new, I got occasional crashes.  Hopefully this new trend continues.
    I do find that web browsing is still incredibly slow.  Web browsers just chug along at a slow pace, even though I have great internet speed.  Maybe I'll try just deleting my web browsers and reinstalling them...
    Anyhow, thank you for your help and knowledge Clinton.

  • Smartwatch 2 and Galaxy S4 - Call app - need Accept Call option !!

    Hello,
    I am very pleased by this new watch but with the Galaxy S4  the smartconnect App for CALL does not allow to have the green ACCEPT CALL buttom .. only the red  "reject call" and "answer with preformatted  sms" ..
    Is it planned by SONY to have this option soon ?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    is not a problem with S4...
    Is the normal option of that APP.
    If you want to "answer" from the watch you can search other app in the playstore.
    I see "callhandlingpro" can make it...

    Standard steps from the user guide are to restart, reset then restore if necessary.
    Have you done those?

  • SIGSEGV in socket accept native code (possibly RMI related)

    Hi,
    We've been having this problem for a while on a 1.4.2 VM (don't recall the exact version), so we upgraded to 1.5.0_03 and it got slightly worse... so we upgraded to 1.5.0_09 and it got much worse. Unfortunately, this is the latest version of the JVM that's packaged/authorised in my organisation so trying later versions isn't possible.
    The problem is a Signal 11 (SIGSEGV) fault during JVM shutdown which appears to be caused by a bug in the native socket accept code. The problem seems to be exhibited by some RMI related code. This client uses RMI to talk to a server, but (as far as I know - it's using a third party closed-source library) it doesn't export any RMI objects of its own, so I'm a bit baffled why there's an RMI TCP Accept thread at all.
    We've googled every conceivable combination of useful-looking terms (including Java_java_net_PlainSocketImpl_socketAccept (with and without the offset), bits of the stack trace, PC addresses, thread names, etc.) and we can turn up one or two things that look like they're related, but really nothing that appears hugely significant.
    Basically, we're really stuck with this and it's a production problem so it's causing us a lot of pain. If anybody out there has the faintest clue, we'd really appreciate it.
    Thanks.

    There's no JNI component of RMI so this is only an RMI problem to the extent that RMI uses TCP. It's a Java TCP accept() problem.That's what I figured. Shame nobody else on the entire Internet appears to have experienced the same problem... :-( Nevertheless, there is no native code in our application so it's looking like a bug in the native socket accept implementation, yes? And that appears to be exacerbated by RMI and/or our use of RMI.
    I suspect we are (or the third party code is) doing something strange at VM shutdown since the crash always happens after a log output saying that the process has completed its work. So my current lines of attack are around JVM shutdown handlers, finalizers, etc.
    Our project also uses OpenAdaptor (open source ETL tool) and I discovered that this by default calls runFinalizersOnExit(true), so we're going to try re-configuring that today too in case there's something dodgy going on with the finalizers somewhere.
    That EDI register of 0x8 looks very suspicious. Have you tried the Bug Parade?Your expertise extends to understand the underlying hardware implemention? Is there no end to your talents ejp?! :-)
    I have tried the bug parade but there's nothing obvious there. Plus, it's just about the worst bug tracking system in existance (to go with the worst forum software I guess! LOL) and things just get closed with no comment, or ignored, or turn into a flame war, etc... Still, I tried and didn't have any luck.
    Thanks ejp!

  • Failure upon Socket.accept

    We are seeing our logs filling with the following exception:

    Has anyone else experienced this?
    We are running WLS 5.1, Solaris 7, and Solaris_JDK_1.2.1_04. The soft
    limit for file descriptors is 1024, the hard limit is 4096. We are no
    where near the file descriptor limit.
    Thanks

    Adam,
    I am fairly new to WL development. Are you implying that the server my client startup class is connecting to is somehow calling close on my server? I am not sure how or where this would be possible as I am connecting to the remote server on a different port.
    During the 15 or so failure messages and reconnect attempts, my client can still receive messages from the remote server; I am just assuming that port 7001 just became unavailable for some reason.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
    I am running 4.5.1 SP13. I have a startup class which registers itself asan RMI observer with a remote server. It initially connects, and receives
    the first message.
    Not long after receiving the first message, the following is outputnumerous times before the server shuts itself down:

    This appears to be a fairly generic error message and I don't have much togo by. Any ideas?

  • Did you receive an unsolicited promo offer and after accepting realize your employee discount was dropped?

    This is EXACTLY what happened to me! About two months ago, I received a text from Verizon stating,
    "Verizon appreciates your loyalty. You are currently on the $50/2GB plan. You can now get an extra 2GB of data per month for the same price you pay now. There's no change to your voice plan or contract. Would you like to move to this new plan?"
    Of course, I was tempted but thought it was too good to be true. So I called Verizon and spoke to customer service. I basically received the same message - nothing would be changed other than increasing the data plan to 4GB; the monthly rate and contract would remain the same. And I accepted the offer because it was so good!
    Now, two months later I find my monthly rate is higher by ~$15. The first month, I called and received a credit - the customer service agent could never figure out why my employee discount was automatically dropped, but ensured me it wouldn't happen again. It was easily resolved and only cost me about 30 minutes in time to call in to get a resolution.
    Then I get the next bill... I just chatted with customer service again this morning for this month's bill and suddenly the game has changed... I was told "promo" plans have never been allowed to receive employee discounts. Confuse me?!?! I would imagine this is something that should have come up sooner!
    At any rate, I now was forced to go back to the original plan to ensure my bill would remain the same. However, I'm fuming that a company as large as Verizon could use such trickery and get away with it. It's frustrating that I have to babysit my bill and now have been misled. Here I was thinking Verizon's customer service with superior when in reality my "loyalty" plan was designed to cost me more money! Be aware when excepting these offers and they are ultimately a sales scheme.

    Well your very welcome   just want to be clear there is a BIG difference between loyalty plans and loyalty Data. The data makes no change to the plan at the same rate, the plan changes you to one of the lower amounts possible not allowing the discount to apply to the acct. which is why online when checking the status you can still see you are valid but its not reflecting, unfortunately with this problem VZW cant really apply the discount because its a system reading not a mess up on an agents part. If you contact employment validation they will actually tell you the accurate info which is exactly as im explaining (1-800-890-8007) hope they clear it all up for you.
    have a great day all

  • UDPWrite in a loop. "A Windows Sockets function call returned an unexpected error."

    Hello together,
    i use UDP Support Library in NI CVI 9.0. When i wait for receiving a packet at the pc to send then a packet from the pc, the functions UDPRead and UDPWrite work fine. If i want to test the maximum throughput, i put the UDPWrite in a loop, but then an error occurs. It is "kUDP_UnexpectedWinsockError"
    Error Popup:
    "NON-FATAL RUN-TIME ERROR:   "main.c", line 53, col 22, thread id
    0x00000C18:   Library function error (return value == -6822
    [0xffffe55a]). A Windows Sockets function call returned an unexpected
    error."
    Line 53:
    status = UDPWrite (channel, 60100, "192.168.1.10", pOutputBuffer, 1458);
    the whole loop:
    while(1)
    status = UDPWrite (channel, 60100, "192.168.1.10", pOutputBuffer, 1458);
    counter++;
    if(counter>50)
    break;
    else{;}
    The error occurs after 3-16 packets have been sent. If i step through the programm, no error occurs. So i guess its because the UDPWrite command is invoked too fast. pOutputBuffer has static data. I could use a delay in the loop, but then i dont know how to configure for maximal throughput.
    Any ideas how to avoid this error?
    Regards Florian

    Hello and thank you for your answer. Sorry that i reply a month later.
    I dont know what you mean by "let 'er rip approach". Do you mean something like:
    status = UDPWrite (channel, 60100, "192.168.1.10", pOutputBuffer, 1458);
    if(status==0)
     counter++;
    else
      Delay(0.00005);
    I did not yet try to put the packet number in the payload, but there is just a 30 cm crossover cable between the two devices, no switch, no router. So the sequence should not be interruptet. And even if they arrive in chaos, i dont mind.
    I have contacted the NI support 2 weeks ago, but no response yet.
    I did some tests with a delay between the execution of UDPWrite(). The code:
    float time = 0.0;
     for(i = 1; i < 1000; i++)
      status = UDPWrite (channel, 60100, "192.168.1.10", pOutputBuffer, 1458);
      time = 1.0 / i;
      Delay(time);
    The results:
    For i between 1 and 1000: no error, the speed of the last ten packets was about 6.5 MBit/s
    For i between 1000 and 2000: error occured at i = 1585 (variable time in Delay was 0.0006313), the speed of the last ten packets was about 8 MBit/s
    Then i put some constant values in Delay and ran 100 UDPWrite iterations:
    Delay(0.0006): 7.48 MBit/s
    Delay(0.0001): 10.7 MBit/s
    Delay(0.00001): error occured at i=31, speed of 31 packets was 12.0 MBit/s
    Delay(0.00008): 100 of 100 packets, speed 10.9 MBit/s
    Delay(0.00005): error at i=41, speed of 41 packets 11.1 MBit/s
